What nationality/ethnicity people have mistaken you?

I'm Vietnamese, and I've been mistaken for Latina by this Latino guys who got lost in the neighborhood. My friend said they were blind because I'm obviously Asian XD.
I'm Vietnamese, but I've been told I don't look it at all.
My boyfriend's dad who's Japanese says I look more Japanese.
My friend's mom who's Chinese says I look more Chinese than Vietnamese.
My aunt said I look more Korean . . .
My nose is a little tall, but small, and my skin is a little whiter than most Vietnamese, makes people a little confused o____o.
Of course, there are people who can't tell the nuances between all those Asian countries XD.
Right?! My boyfriend's Cantonese-Chinese, but everyone thinks he's Korean because of his long oval face and wide nose!0 -
I am fair and blonde. 3/4 Polish and 1/4 French Canadian. (Perhaps from native american there.)
I grew up in a very ethnic mostly hispanic neighborhood and I was the "exotic" with my long straight blonde hair, light blue eyes, and white skin. (Funny thing is my dad is olived skinned and got hispanic alot.)
When I traved to Poland, at the airport the immigratation guys thought I should have been in the Polish national line.
I occassionally got Swedish but I am bit too short for that generalization.
Interesting thread. If you eyes are bright, your skin is smooth, your teeth are good, and your hair is "arranged well" ~ I'm betting that you are pretty no matter what color you are.0 -
Just about every west indian race....i am AMERICAN.
And i'm West Indian but get American lol0 -
Hahaha. All different types.0
-
Asian. Mostly Filipino but I've gotten Indian too. My mother gets mistaken for Filipino too0
-
I'm mixed German and African American. I've gotten so many different guesses lol. Hispanic, Samoan, Hawaiian, Polynesian, even asked if I'm part Asian. I think it's in my eyes I'm not sure. I get allot of different people talking to me in their language in which of coarse I don't understand.0

I'm Italian, Polish, Ukrainian, African American, Native American, Creole. For the most part, I am mistaken for Latina. Once, at my last job, an old man came in on my day off and asked for the "tall, Hispanic gentleman". When he was informed that no one matching that description worked there he said "you know, the assistant manager".
I was the assistant manager. *sigh*0 -
I'm Norwegian, Native American, and Italian
But people think i'm: Greek, Bosnian, Hispanic, 1/2 white 1/2 black, or Middle-Eastern.
I find that when I'm tan (which is whenever i'm in the sun for a few short hours) people have no idea what I am. It's actually kind of fun having people guess. The one question I don't like though is "What are you?"... "what nationality or ethnicity" is fine.. but "what are you" really? I'm human wtf are you?!0 -
I always get mistaken for Greek, when I am Italian haha.0
-
I've been mistaken for a light mexican and an italian. I'm straight up Anglo-Saxon. I think.0
-
I'm Half Mauritian, half Greek but pure Aussie
I get indian, lebanese, turkish and other European backgrounds..0 -
I'm Australian. I always have people ask me if I'm American or English, or if I've lived there for a long time, because my accent.0
-
I am English with a Welsh mother and Cornish father, and I have pale skin, blue eyes and dark hair, which is not unusual for a someone with that background. I have been mistaken for Spanish, Egyptian and Indian more than once, and ALWAYS by people from those countries. Totally ridiculous. I find it creepy and sort of offensive when people try to guess my ethnic background but that might be because in London, it's bad manners to ask someone what they "are"!0
-
I'm Mexican but some people have thought I was Asian or Filipino.
Someone once got angry at me because they were convinced I was lying to them about being Hispanic.
Hahahahahaha!!0 -
Depends where I am. When I was in Brooklyn, people thought I was Russian/east european. When I was in Turkey/Greece they thought I was Syrian O.o0
-
People mistake me for being Norwegian. It's not that I look like one, it's just the fact that I've lived in Norway all my life, and I act like and speak like one, so everyone just assumes that I am.
I'm actually English, and my parents moved to Norway long before I was born.
I have also been mistaken for being French when I was out of the country.0 -
I'm a quarter Japanese and people often come up to me speaking Spanish... and I'm always asked if I'm Hispanic in any sort of ethnicity/nationality discussion.0
-
Thai0

95% of people assume I'm Mexican. Pretty sick of it after 25 years too, for reasons I don't feel like getting into. LOL
Another strangely common one I get is Lebanese. Awfully specific but after seeing what they look like, I can see where it comes from. XD Middle Eastern, less specifically. Indian a couple times. A friend thought I was Japanese and Mexican. I've got tons of different blood (Filipino, Italian, German, Irish, Spanish, Chinese, Native American), but no one ever seems to pick up on any of them.0 -
Italian mostly..someone once said black and white as well but my heritage is Puerto Rican. My hair is dark and soft spiral curly, my skin is very light (but I tan easily), and my eyes are hazel..most people assume Puerto Ricans are dark skinned but it's not true..I even have family members whom are blonde with blue eyes. ::Shrugs::0

I used to assume that as well, but I've met red headed Puerto Ricans! I find it fascinating because the majority of Puerto Ricans do have such dark features.0 -
Such an interesting topic.
I'm always asked all the common Asian ones: Chinese, Japanese, Korean, ect. but when I tell them I'm Hmong they go "Mongolian?" and I have to tell them it's not a nationality but an ethnicity (Like how China recognizes 56+ ethnic tribes instead of just being plain "Chinese" which is mostly Han Chinese). Even worse when I tell them I was born in Thailand, and then they go "So you're Thai?" Nope. Still Hmong.0 -
usually mistaken for Irish. ..i wonder why..
pretty much dutch and we think possibly jewish heritage0 -
Many times I have been thought to be Hawaiian and have also been told a few times that I have an Irish accent.0
-
I never get mistaken for anything. Haha people always guess that i'm black and white. They just don't know that I'm irish and prussian as well as black. xD
People always mistake my mom for spanish even though she doesn't have a single hispanic bone in her whole body.0 -
For me it`s either Greek, Spanish..
Dark hair, olive skin and green light green eyes.0 -
A lot of people think I'm Italian or simply White. I'm actually Mexican & White (French/Swiss I believe). I can understand the Italian. I have tan skin, brown hair, & light brown eyes. Can't understand the just white because I'm pretty tan.0
-
I'm half Welsh half Portuguese. People usually think I'm French or Australian...I dunno why!?!0
-
I'm half English half Japanese, but I always get people asking me things in Spanish ... they automatically think Mexican. then they yell at me when I answer "no comprendo espagnol" LOL I guess that's what happens if you live in California, and have dark hair and eyes...0
