  • I like to sew, but have mostly only made things for my daughters. This summer, that's changing--I've already made one skirt and taken in a couple shirts, and I'm planning to make another skirt tomorrow or Friday (need to get bias tape).
  • I'm 45, and this is my third time losing a significant amount of weight. I can't go through all this again, so I really need to stick with it! I've lost almost 150 pounds since February 2011. I'm eating generally better and getting exercise, though not much more than just walking so far. I feel much better, and clothes…
  • Those are great ideas, thanks!
  • I haven't done big exercise, pretty much just walking. But that walking has been critical to my mental health and promoting an all around healthier life, which makes it easier to eat better, too!
  • I'm horrible at posting pictures on the forum, but there are a few in my profile. The most recent one is my avatar, taken last Christmas. I really need something new! Almost all my exercise has been walking, although we also have a Wii Fit Plus that I've worked on.
  • Well, which is it? Fastest or healthiest? They are kind of mutually exclusive. If you want to be healthy, focus on your HEALTH. Eat good, nutritious food and get reasonable exercise. Change your life, and your body will follow. It's not a race, really. You're still going to be around a year from now, five years from now,…
  • Love that book and the show that went with it!
  • Love it!
  • I can only echo what others have already said. Make small goals for yourself. Work on being healthy and really taking care of yourself. Just get started, and when you falter, remember why this is important to you, and keep going.
  • In season fruits & veg--cheaper and tastier! For example, zucchini, spinach, bell peppers, salad, tomatoes, green beans, strawberries, peaches, etc. Red onions, scallions, eggs & mushrooms are year round for me. Now that it's warmer, I'm getting Greek yogurt more often, and less fixin's for soup or homemade pizza.
  • I've lost over 80 pounds twice in the past 16 years. In between, I ignored my health for the most part. Now, I really need to STAY healthy. I'm too old to go through all this again, and I'm enjoying myself too much to go back!
  • Stress is a killer. How else can you deal with your stress? For me, it's walking. If I'm stressed and can get out for a long enough walk, I come back doing better. I also find that if I'm walking regularly, my stress levels are lower to start with. Kind of proactive de-stressing. The music I listen to (ONLY while walking)…
  • English muffin with sauteed ham, red onion mushrooms & spinach, topped with two fried eggs and Parmesan cheese. If I don't have the English muffin, I do it as a scramble and add an extra egg white in. It's my current go-to breakfast.
  • Walking is pretty much the only exercise I've done, and I'm happy with the results so far, although I'm hoping to step it up over the summer.
  • I can't say how many times I've had crappy days and pigged out. The next day, I do my best to get back on plan and remember WHY this is important to me. I can move forward, or I can stay where I am. Every day is a new choice.
  • I really like to walk early in the mornings, but lately I've been going out with my husband in the evenings. He's not an early bird, so this gives us time together. As long as I wait at least an hour after dinner, it doesn't bother me, and it hasn't interfered with my sleep at all.
  • Two things have really helped me. One is remembering that when I go out for a walk, I always come back feeling better and less stressed. The other is that I got an iPod Shuffle for Mother's Day last year and I've filled it with songs I love that keep me moving. I only listen to it when I walk, so that's also a motivation…
  • I'm still just walking, but I really like it, as long as it isn't too cold out.
  • "Because it's delicious!"
  • I'm between 5' 10" & 5'11", and my first goal was to get below 200. I'm almost there! Then I thought 190 would be good, because I thought that's how much I weighed in '94. But that's only about 12 pounds away, and I know I won't be satisfied with that. Also, I have a dress from back then sitting in my closet that won't fit…
  • I had to have surgery twice in the past ten months--once for a broken arm, and once to have a lymph node removed. Both went well, but they were still miserable. Recovery took time out of my life that I didn't want to give. I prefer to avoid surgery as much as possible. It might be a "quick fix," but I'd rather do what I…
  • Congratulations! Your pics are fabulous! I started at the same weight, and am hoping to get to Onederland soon as well. It's a long journey, but so worth it.
  • Fiber will help fill you up. Try eating more whole foods, less processed snack stuff.
  • Wait until they ask. Be an inspiration to them, like your other sister was to you at Thanksgiving. And congrats on your healthier life!
  • My breakfast this morning: 3 Tbsp cornmeal, cooked with water to make polenta 2 oz mushrooms & a quarter cup diced red onion, sauteed in cooking spray; added 2 cups chopped spinach, put lid on, let wilt; added 2 oz chopped up ham; fried two eggs in cooking spray all on a plate, topped with a tablespoon Parmesan cheese I…
  • I didn't cut anything out totally. I do try to eat as well as I can as often as I can, but I also have splurges sometimes. A big thing for me is getting out for a walk. I try to walk at least half an hour every day. I really got away from it over the winter, and I'm glad to be back to it. It's a long road, but so worth it!
  • We got one in Feb of 2011, and I used it quite a bit through the spring. I've used it some this year, mostly when the weather isn't good. I'd rather go out for a walk, though. I agree that although it's fun, it isn't terribly challenging if you're in good shape already.
  • Last month, I ate an entire box of Girl Scout cookies in half an hour, among various other things I no longer remember. Last week, I ate four tiramisu cupcakes, among various other things I no longer remember. Today, I ate a delicious, healthy breakfast, a great lunch, and I'm about to have homemade pizza for dinner--all…
  • You're doing great, congratulations!!!
