Thank you for this post. I've been looking for a community like this. I've been using FP for a couple months. I work out 3-6 times a week. I do a 5K 3 times a week, strength train, pilates, areobics, and yoga. I eat mainly a whole food diet and mostly vegetarian but I'm having such a hard time losing weight! I'm strong and have great endurance but can't shed the pounds. I'm 52 and, due to surgery, am post menapausal. Any suggestions.

Sounds like you're very active so the only thing I can think of (without being an MD & knowing your medical history), is to log those meals and take a look at your calories. I am finally losing some weight due to logging although I'm not on a super-healthy whole food & vegetarian diet. Kudos to you for smart eating!

DJ - I didn't mean to imply that there was anything wrong with online dating I was just sharing an unfortunate experience I had. On the upside I also met some nice guys who all lived in other states that I just spoke with online and by phone. You are right though we do need to move on from bad experiences. <3

Margaret - So sorry to hear about your DH. Let's hope they caught it early. <3

Gloria etc - I must have met around 100 men in my online dating. Most of them I just met for a quick perusal over coffee. You can rule them out in an instant if you meet in person. Some I gave a second chance. One or two lasted a bit longer, one nesrly 18 months. My advice is to meet up as soon as you can and definitely no email relationships. You can tell a bit more on the phone - some I ruled out very easily that way. DH and I got on well from the start and it progressed very quickly. It's a numbers game and you should treat it just like an employee search.

I'm getting to grips with my wifi memory stick. What a marvellous thing! 64 Gb of memory. Perfect for tablets and phones with no usb. I've yet to create sensible folders, but at least all the photos are moved over.

    Guinea fowl tonight. Hooray! <3

Heather - What is guinea fowl? Can you make a comparison or give me an example? DH won't try anything new, so my food knowledge is limited.

    Thanks!

Terri - Guinea fowl is like a small chicken, but the taste is a bit more 'gamey'. I used to be able to only have it in France, but these days it is freely available in supermarkets over here. We have the breasts roasted one day and I try to do something clever with the rest of it the next day. Tomorrow I will make a curry with the leftovers and butternut squash. I think it originally came from Africa. It is a very lean meat.

Oh Mary! Don't envy you that snow! It is mild and damp here at the moment.

My old school friend rang me this morning and we had a nice long chat. <3 I will be seeing her next week in London when the four of us meet up for our twice yearly get together. We have booked for a posh dinner in the St Pancras Renaissance Hotel, a Victorian Gothic masterpiece by Gilbert Scott. The dining room should be a sight to behold! All gilt and swags. On the Friday we are booked in for the Celts exhibition at the British Museum. Just my cup of tea. I've been watching some TV programmes about it. :D

DJ - I also did some writing this morning. About 'daddy-long-legs' in the bedroom when I was a child (don't see so many of them these days), and deliberately losing myself in the bedclothes. Also the fart competitions with my brother.

Nearly finished copying and moving my photos/videos. It needed most of my courage. I get so scared of new technology. But I did it! :drinker:

Also had 'the discussion' with DH about the draft wills. We are in agreement. Now I have to notify the solicitor of our couple of remaining questions. I also want to ask her about Lasting Power of Attorney, which DH is very reluctant about. I want to do it if it isn't too expensive.

All this concentrating gives me a headache!

Still no exchange scheduled for the rental.I have emailed the solicitor to hurry up.

    Pip your shoulder looks great!

I worked at one of my favorite schools today. Turn out the secretary's husband had kidney cancer. It was found when he thought he had appendicitis. There is no test for it. She gave me the name of his doctor. He thought he was great. When I mentioned my husband had bumps on his arms she said that is a sign of gluten intolerance. It turns out a couple of his aunts have celiac disease. It also makes sense because cancer is sometimes caused by inflammation. How much he will be willing to change his diet remains to be seen. First step is to see a Kidney Specialist.

Thank you all for your prayers.

Heather - Thanks! Since the duck and goose that my Grandpa shot on his own land is the only wild meat I have eaten, it is hard to imagine guinnea fowl being wild and lean. I will try it some time if/when I see it available.

It is so exciting to make people happy and healthy. Different businesses until recently could decide how much their employees paid if they wanted a flu shot. Miller chose $15 for dependants and retirees and free for employees. The new laws made a yearly flu shot "Preventative", so dependants and retirees are now free, just like the employees. That means people smile when they get their money ready and I tell them to keep it. Some people even called today saying they forgot to pay yesterday, and I could hear the smile in their voice. :D Those are the times when I REALLY love my job, even though most of the Insurance stuff I have to handle makes me crazy.

Margaret - that is great news! It is nice to talk to somebody that has gone through the same thing that you and your DH are facing. Our prayers are still with you and your husband!

Terri - it is nice when you can smile all day at your job! Making other people happy does put a smile on your face.

Did 50 minutes of Gay Gaspers Urban Rebounding DVD today. The plan for tomorrow is to do a Lift Weights to Lose Weight DVD.

Had a Newcomer Board meeting this morning. Ceramics tonight and then we'll probably leave early since I want to stop at Lowe's foods to get items on sale and Vince wants to get home in time for the Republican debate

DJ - I think of Terri every time I go to Big Lots, too. Yes, they carry the oat bran. But if you go online to Bob Red Mill you can get a $1 coupon to use. It used to be where you could download multiple coupons a month. Now they've started using another service and you can only download one/month (I'm guessing it's per month)

Mindy - sorry you're having to go thru this. One day your daughter might see the light and wisdom of your action, we can hope.

Joyce - WalMart many times would give out free samples and it always amazed me that they didn't have a trash can nearby. There were times when I really needed it (like I didn't like the taste of what they had to sample).

Rainy yesterday and today. Vince just told me that this is the remnants of the storm that hit Mexico.

Kim - I understand that Mary sent you the recipe. I'll message you with my concerns and maybe you can give me pointers. I've never used silken tofu...I'll explain more in a PM Some of the activities from the Newcomers are free.

Sharon - so glad Larry's surgery went well. Our cats walk in front of the computer monitor. They do make better doors than windows when you're trying to read something

Karen - you learned to drive a stick on the Beltway! I'm impressed

Lisa - your "timeline" was really interesting to look at. You look fantastic now.

MNMargaret - so sad about your hubby. You have so much on your shoulders

Lenora our first cat would not use the litter box. There was one time when it snowed, I even shoveled a pathway for him to use so he could go out. He wouldn't use it and held it in

    pip - lookin' good

Mary - I find that I'm so much more attuned to the sodium in foods now. Most other people can't taste it, but I can. Like I can taste the salt in cheese. Good for you losing! I heard it was snowing by you! I would not be ready for it, either

    Welcome everyone new!

    Dentist tomorrow. Just routine check.

Call me crazy but I love to see other people happy and succeeding .

    Good Afternoon Ladies,

Mindy, my heart goes out to you with your family situation. It is so hard to see our children doing destructive things to themselves and not be able to help. The sad truth with all of us is that only we can fix our problems. Whether it is pot or pounds, all the suggestions and advice in the world won’t help until we are ready to help ourselves. The truth is, your life will probably be less stressful with DD having moved out, so you don’t have to observe the self-destructive behavior. You take care of you! (((Hugs)))

    Joyce
, I hate to hear that you are a closet eater. smiley-sad008.gif girl, get yourself out of the closet and own up to what you put in your mouth. For some reason I always figured that anything I hide to eat just doubles the calories. You know you can do this. Remember I’m on your shoulder, even in the closet. (((Hugs)))

    Penny
, good for you on the running! It’s so impressive what some of you ladies do.

    Sharon
, so glad the surgery went well. Yes, some of the “lovin’” we get from our furry friends is a bit inconvenient or even uncomfortable but we just have to remember that it is affection. Who doesn’t love affection?? It was so very nice of you to go see DH in the hospital. LOL Aren’t they cute when stoned?

Heather, I’d drive too to get to spend the time with a DGS. Glad you have a date.

Mary, I hate that you can’t sleep. Thankfully I have sleeping pills that I take on the rare occasion that I can’t sleep. I just hate sleep deprivation!!!!

    Karen
, I loved reading your post about the great times in the kitchen with family, preparing the evening meal. Thanks for sharing and lock those memories in tight.

    Lisa
, I hope you keep those pictures where you can look at them any time you think about eating things you shouldn’t. Talk about a transformation!!! So wonderful.

MNMargaret, (((((((((((((((Hugs))))))))))))))))))))))))) for you and prayers for DH. I can’t even imagine the shock and fear. Know we are all thinking of you.

Pip, the shoulder looks great. How does it feel??

jsowa98, welcome. This is a great place for support and information. Please tell us a bit more about yourself to help us get to know you. We also ask that you sign each post with a name that you want to be called. Not losing weight? How many calories are you eating a day? Dow you weight and measure? It’s hard to know why someone doesn’t lose but this normally works when eating fewer calories than you burn. Good luck.

Heather, how cool about your wireless memory. I didn’t even know they made such a thing, but haven’t needed one so never gave it any thought. Enjoy!!! Good for you on getting in some writing today.

Mary, I’m not ready either and it was 75 here today. I sure hope it is gone tomorrow!!!

welcome.gif to any Newbies that I missed. Come often and join in the chat. This thing works!! Please sign your post with what you want to be called. It makes it easier for us to respond to you. Also a location is great, be it specific or general. We are happy to have you join us.

DH and I went to Ollies and Costco today. Had my usual salad at Costco for lunch and brought home enough for probably two more. Got a prescription filled there and only bought eggs. A dozen and a half for $3.00 isn’t bad. It has rained on and off much of the day and is warm and humid. I need to make my bran muffins but may wait until tomorrow. (Lazy? Who, Me?) Waving to any of you that I didn’t respond to. I love seeing you all and hearing from you.
I hope all of you have a healthy and happy day. rose.gif

    Words I live by:
Savor. I have to slow down and savor every bite.
    and
Opportunity. Each day offers new opportunities for good health and happiness if we just look for them and choose them.
    I Love you, smiley-love013.gif

Margaret – great piles of good thoughts sent your way. I am sad to hear, and hoping for the best. Later – glad you got a referral and someone to talk with… interesting about the celiac, even if he is not willing to completely change, maybe you can make more gluten free things to head in that direction.

Pip – looking so much better!!! And it healed very nicely.

Mia and Katla – thanks… I am just not finding what I want…maybe not looking hard enough…
… I don’t have a food handlers card, and our food bank is in an extreamly scary area in Oakland… I do volunteer at the food banks garden, a garden for handicapped children (both group events) and am in a book club and hiking club, but each of the folks while nice for the time we are together have no interest in anything beyond the assigned time… I think I am just feeling sorry for myself.

Jsowa98 – welcome, the one thing we have each had to face in one way or another is logging every bite, and not guessing but actual measuring of portions. That seems to be a defining thing we all share.

Terri – I would love to see some of what you do! Thanks – yeah I skip certain stuff too, but sometimes I just have to pipe up. I think a guinea fowl is prepared like a Cornish hen, it is also a small bird, think is it more a game bird and the Cornish hen is more domesticated.

Mary – WOWWOWWOW snow! It is so pretty

Heather – thanks!!! I’ll pm you.

So tonight I am taking my nephew to dinner, we need some just us time, he graduates in June, and his adults (drunk mom, abusive father, and 86 year old grandma) are getting very clingy/controlling – I want to remind him he will be 18 and can make choices that are the best for him, not the choices that others want him to make. He has had to grow up way too young, but he is still just 17+ with not as many life experiences as we have.

    October Goals -
    Attend yoga each wednesday evening
Walk everyday - increase over 140 - would like to see 160 miles
continue counseling and hold my weight where it is as I deal with my current set of emotional issues
    weekly fun things
W1 – hike, high school football
W2- go to Angels Camp to visit a friend, high school football
W3- taking my nephew to dinner.

Since we are talking about online dating, I would like to share an experience I had. I chatted with a guy online, then by phone and we agreed to go for coffee. He was disabled due to bone cancer in his knee, so he could not drive since a rod had been placed in his leg instead of a bendable knee. So I agreed to pick him up at his apartment. I rang the doorbell, and he answered it. Stark naked. And no, he wasn't a nudist. He was a flasher, and got arrested for flashing a child several years later. Needless to say, I am very wary of online dating. Some sites are better than others, but there seem to be a lot of perverts on there. I had good matches with eHarmony, but I did have TWO professional men (a lawyer and an oral surgeon) send me unsolicited nude photos of their privates.
