I've just started outdoor cycling although I'm still building up my confidence

Been out twice now, first time I did 35 miles and second time I did around 20

My other half is evil and takes me to countryside parks with hilly terrain. It feels like a hardcore workout!

Just getting back on the bike after major illness and I'm going to bike for utilitarian purposes for a few weeks before I start pushing myself. I've been for two rides this week.

Thousands of miles later, this weekend I finally clipped in. Holy cow, it's amazing. I picked up a pair of giro mtb shoes clearance at REI last year but couldn't quite convince myself to try it out for fear of falling. Well, after tipping over several times this winter, I figured why not fall over some more? Took a spin around the neighborhood yesterday, didn't tip over. Took a spin around the south part of the city today, didn't tip over. Here's hoping I keep that upright streak alive!

If you haven't already, adjust your pedals so they're holding your cleats loosely. So when you find yourself having to stop very suddenly, then panic when you realize your feet are stuck, it'll be much easier to get out before you fall over. I think that's how I've managed to not fall over yet. I also generally don't clip in while riding in city traffic.

I plan on doing Gran Fondo NJ in September. I've been spinning at home this winter using spinnervals videos. Did 30 cold miles this past weekend. Hopefully the weather will cooperate going forward so I can get out every weekend.

Also, for any regulars (or newbies) who may be interested, April is "30 Days of Biking" month. Pledge to bike for 30 days, bike for 30 days, gain a sense of accomplishment for biking for 30 days straight and celebrate how awesome you are for riding a bike :) Started here in Minnesota, but people are pledging from all around the world.

    http://30daysofbiking.com/

I probably won't get 30 days of biking in ... it is already starting to be wintery here and the useable daylight hours will be really short come early April when the time change happens. But I hope to get 30 days of movement ... walking, stairs or cycling. :)

Yup, got my cleats pretty loose. So far, so good. Only one tip over :)

3/22 - 22 miles - long weekend visiting family, back on the bike today. I think my tailbone is healed post slip and fall 2 weeks ago so I'm hoping to ramp up the workouts. Biked to the gym, swam and then biked the long way home. Going to try to for a few bike/swim, bike/run workouts a week to prep for my first tri in August.
