So, just about 3 years ago, weight hovering around 200 lbs, I pulled my old high school bike out (old, but still in near mint condition, having not seen the road since the late 90s), dusted it off and pedaled out. I made it 3 miles, turned around and pedaled home, and I haven't stopped since. Thousands of miles later, this weekend I finally clipped in. Holy cow, it's amazing. I picked up a pair of giro mtb shoes clearance at REI last year but couldn't quite convince myself to try it out for fear of falling. Well, after tipping over several times this winter, I figured why not fall over some more? Took a spin around the neighborhood yesterday, didn't tip over. Took a spin around the south part of the city today, didn't tip over. Here's hoping I keep that upright streak alive!

Buddy ended up wanting to explore key west by bike today, so meandered around, and up/down the island. Ended up getting a slice of key lime pie from the key lime pie factory as well in honor of pi day.

Amanda My middle name is Amanda. I am over 280+ pounds having all ready lost 210 pounds, so if I can do it you can do it. I got a trike about 2 years ago and would go off and on maybe 3 or 4 times a week maybe 2 or 3 miles. However this February I decided I wanted to do a bike challenge in 2017 so I started training. My training is getting better each day but I am no where near anyone else on the board. If you do a little each day and increase it each time you will get better and better.
Here are my few miles for this past 15 days but you know what they added up to past the goal I had set earlier in the month.

Had a nice easy ride back from Key West over to Marathon Key today, as the winds were very mild, and the weather wasn't too ugly.
60 more miles tomorrow to Key Largo, then driving home tomorrow evening. Glad to be almost done with my biking goal for the month, as I'm falling behind on my running & swimming this week, and my next race (Ironman Florida 70.3) is coming up in 4 weeks. Still, I might do a century in another week and a half with my tri team, but I'll see if I can unload my Jays vs. Yankees tickets for that day to cover the race fees.

Kinda slowed down a bit to let my knee heal. I bruised it in a balancing act trying to hold my bicycle and take a photo. When the bicycle fell, it hit the bottom part of my ITB rather sharply.

Well my chest infection from February returned with a vengence again this month and I've been on antibiotics, steroids and my asthma inhalers have been upped. Therefore my bike has been parked in the shed for a week. I finally got back on it again last Sunday. And boy did it feel good to be out.

So I'm staring at 2 used Terry bikes for sale, in my size. I'm short with stubby legs, so finding used bikes that fit me is rare, which is why I'm salivating over these. One is an early Terry bike from the mid to late 80s, pre Waterford days, so probably made either in Japan or New York. The other is a more recent FastWoman. I don't need either, but it's so very tempting. The fastwoman in particular is like 30% of what it cost new, while being basically in new condition, so still obnoxiously expensive but a heck of a deal. Really though, I should sit on my hands and if I want to spend that much $$$ I should just go to Waterford and have a custom Gunnar touring bike made, since that's what I really need want.

3/16 - 14 miles - holy crud, miserable ride this morning. It's been rainy and cold, so I rode my winter rig, which still has it's studded tires. Into the wind. After riding my road bike for a few weeks, it feels so incredibly heavy and so freakin slow. Hopefully I burned a ton of calories though. Snow in the forecast tomorrow.

Looks like I didn't get a say in when I retire my winter rig for the season. With the early warm weather has come lots and lots of people who apparently can't hold onto their glass bottles. Shattered glass everywhere on the way to work. Got a rear flat on the way home yesterday, and rather than change it, I think I'm just going to take the whole bike apart, clean it, do a tune up and replace a few parts (despite my best efforts, the cassette is rather rusty). I don't know much about bike maintenance beyond the ability to change a flat, so it should be interesting. Luckily, my dad is a crazy bike guy and I'm dating someone who's worked as a bike mechanic, so I have good references for when I get into trouble.

First time commuting and clipping in, and so far so good. Most of the ride in I don't have to worry about stopping too much, but the last mile is in the downtown, with a stoplight on every block. I've remembered to clip out and haven't fallen over yet.
