KJLaMore - Did my squat circuit challenge for today (and yesterday, just forgot to post). Is it getting easier?

For those who need to add protein to their diets - I bought some powdered peanut butter about two weeks ago and have been giving it a thorough test. I was skeptical, but I love it! It adds all the protein, but less than half the calories and almost no fat. And it tastes good! Now, I have not tried reconstituting it to make a PBJ sandwich, but I've added it to protein shakes and recipes.

Beth (((HUGS))) I am praying for all of you. You cannot reason with someone with mental illness when they are acting out. I am hoping your family is getting the help you need, and he is open to accepting that help. He is the one with the illness and needs treatment to help him learn to manage it. You need support too becasue how difficult it is to have an ill child. Be kind and gentle to yourself. Margaret

I am with Margaret. The right pro makes all the difference in the world and it is worth every single penny.

Meg: I hope you are feeling better every day. DH went to an acupuncture doctor for a long while before he started taking medication for MS. She was a tremendous help. She said that it was palliative care. It could ease the symptoms but not cure the disease.

Selena: I have not taken strontium for bone density but I am taking alondrate/fosamax. I started with the daily pill but didn't care for the morning routine, so I switched to the weekly pill. I'm tolerating it just fine. My doctor tells me that they won't do a bone density test to see how it is working for two years. When you take the pills, you must take them first thing in the morning with a cup to cup and a half of water. Then you sit upright for half an hour before brushing your teeth, taking any other medication, food or coffee. I can handle it once a week, but every day was not to my liking. :noway:

Heather: The grandchildren are adorable.

Joyce in SD: Welcome! I'm glad the walking statistics poster was useful.

    Pip: Yummy looking dinner.

That sit/rise test is a toughie. I can sit without using my hands just fine. I'll have to work on the rising portion of the agenda. Just tried again and did get up with no hands, but not the way they showed it. I got to my knees and then to my feet. I'll try again another time.

My riding lesson today was all in the arena. My teacher was waiting for a student who didn't show up, so I got to spend two hours in the arena. I'm making progress, and I'm having fun.

So, last night Husband made homemade cinnamon toast. Yep, that kind, with lots of butter and cinnamon-sugar. So I ate three pieces. And then a peanut butter sandwich. With 16 oz of 1% milk. And then a ripe banana. And that, my dear friends, is a sugar binge to be proud of. I am on my way to see if you can enter a binge.

Ran my 5K fundraiser this morning with two of my granddaughters. It was their first timed 5K race. They are both 8. They wanted to run with their cousin but I told them that he (age 10) would finish about 10 minutes ahead of us. They decided to stick with me. As it is I ended up pushing them along. I did let up at the very end so they could speed past me.. their whole goal was to beat grandma! :) I had a small team this year, only 9 of us ran down from the 22 we have had in the past but it was fun all the same. Afterwards we went to eat brunch and had a fantastic breakfast, made the run totally worth it besides the fact that we raised money for brain cancer research (my mom died of brain cancer 35 years ago).

Going to a musical tonight. Oliver! Had a play last Friday and the symphony the weekend before so it's been an artsy couple of weeks.

Larisa – Skydiving at 90; sounds like the way to go. I’d like to ride in a helicopter; but, not the way my Daddy did. He was airlifting from a hospital near Atlanta (nobody spoke good English); except for a neighbor of ours, ‘who told Mother that we’d kill him if we ‘moved’ him’. She told him that the man she had married had ‘died’ when he had his first stroke 3 months earlier. Said the saddest thing was, he wasn’t conscious to enjoy it. Had always wanted to fly in one, part of his “Bucket List” … so he made it; and, was much closer to home so Mother could stay with him. After the time expired where Medicare would pay for his treatment, she brought him back home to the county hospital with a DNR. The day that she died, she had woken up from a nap and went to the hospital; where the nurses were getting his ready for the call they were about to make to her. She asked them to ‘leave the room’, which they did. She said that was when he had the most peaceful look on his face she had seen in months.

Margaret – I agree that you cannot reason with someone having an episode; my husband can usually tell when I am having one, or about to have a ‘bipolar episode’ because when I talk, I make no sense to him. He calls it ‘babbling’; but, to me … I sound perfectly normal. But, the worst thing he does, is to ‘think that I can sleep it off’ like a drunk does a hang-over. He’s gotten better about it and we have the MD’s cell phone so we can talk directly to him. Sometimes he can tell my DH to make a change in my medication and if I have not improved by the next day to come up there and they will decide if I need to be admitted. That’s only occurred twice since I started going to him about 6 years ago.
When my boys were young (8 & 10); I taught them how to clean up their rooms, cook (they had to plan a meal for one night and it started from cooking, setting the table, and loading the dishwasher; and their own laundry (since my DYS would change clothes 3x a day (or more and dump them in the dirty clothes basket). He still takes 2 or more showers a day; but, part of that is because of what he does for a living.

Heather and Katla – I am lactose intolerant; and although I will drink milk or eat aged cheese, it always upsets my stomach; I have cramps; but, if I limit the amount I drink or eat, I usually don’t have an issue with it. I can eat ‘white’ cheeses with no problems.
I did not like to read for pleasure as a child. It really upset my parents, who were avid readers, also my 2 sisters were. But, for some reason last June, I went to the library and checked out 6 books; and, I have not stopped since. Husband and I usually read a book each, and, then exchange them. We usually only have to renew them another 2-weeks. Generally, they get taken back after about 10 days. I’m 2 books behind him because I ‘tried’ to ‘suffer’ through one that was ‘horrible’ … never did get interesting and I put it down and started another. I was just very disappointed in it because the ones we had read by that author had always been good. I don’t know why this one was so horrible; other than there was another author on it.

Katla – Our neighbor brew ‘dark’ beer; I don’t much like ‘dark’ beers; guess I grew up drinking regular or light beers. What I like best that they have given to us is the Hawaiian coffee that Jason gets from a family coffee bean plantation over in Hawaii, where his is from.
Heather – I’ve heard that the Mayan ruins are extraordinary. It’s been a shame what the ‘bad’ people in the Middle East have tried to destroy things that were/are tourist attractions. Maybe they are just ‘superstitions’ enough not to have destroyed the pyramids in Egypt. Maybe they see them as being way too big to do anything to them. My BF has been there; has several pictures of them; and, it is amazing to me how they built them with just slave power. One block is really tall and dwarfs anybody standing next to it. She said that they would not allow pictures to be made in them. She and a boyfriend had a special tour guide and went into one that most people don’t know about. She took out her camera and made a shot; and he about jerked the camera off her neck. He boyfriend had to tell her that the paintings were protected from light of any kind (other than the candle lite lantern that he carried.

Patsy – Love what you are doing on your loom. I would not want to leave it either.

Sioux in Tulsa – I hope that’ll are wearing gloves and face masks while looking through all those treasures. We did, when we cleaned out the mess that my DFnL had ‘hoarded’ over the years, trying to get the house clean for our DMnL/DM. It was a mess! Found a few things we wanted to keep; but, most of it we just gave away. But, we had to look through everything because we had realized long before he died, that he’d stash cash between the magazines that were stacked up all around his bedroom. MnL did not sleep in there with him; she kept her room immaculate. She just gave up on the rest of it.

Heather – The one thing I make when we have the family over (for Easter and/or Thanksgiving) is a Pecan Cream Cheese Pie. Talk about calories. But, my family loves it. It’s not as rich as a regular pecan pie.

You could certainly ask it they’d take them before taking them there. You might be surprised what a little water will do to clean the covers. I’d certainly try that or if you have a prison or prison camp near you, they might take them, even if they are not in good condition. Is Taliah going to live in the house?

Denise Ohio – You are in a good spot. Lots of encouragement and since this is a site for women, we can say about anything. I had about 55”+# to lose and so far, I’ve lost 40#; when I get to that goal and depending on what my BMI number is at that time; we’ll decide what will be the best weight for me; then besides the one meal I can have now that I cook, or eat out; we’ll be adding other meals to the count. I’m one a ‘very’ low ‘caloric intake’ MD ordered and supported, so it’s been fairly easy for me.
Tell us a little more about yourself. Family, hobbies, that sort of stuff.

Becca – I spend a lot of time watching decorating shows – most weekday afternoons and some on the weekends. So much better than watching ‘soap operas’ … nobody has that many problems; and, if they did they would not stay together. Maybe that is why they are always have babies made during an affair.
My DDnL#2 got me started with the “Coconut Oil” … just a little goes a LONG WAY; and she told me that to put it in my hair, very sparingly; and, not to wash my hair with it. She said she did that once and it took 3 o 4 washing with Dawn to get it out of her hair. It does so much other than make your skin soft. You can ‘cook’ with it, put it in your drink or coffee. She also says you can squish it between your teeth; but, NOT to spit it into your sink … it will eventually stop it up. She says to spit it out in the trashcan. One thing I have noticed when I use in on my hands and feet is that the ‘white’ part of my nail is whiter than it normally is.
I want some of those strawberries. They have a farm south of her (near Camilla) where you go and pick your own. I might get DH to take me there some time when they are producing fruit. Can they be ‘frozen’ or not? Mouthwatering tomatoes. One big slice with a lot of mayo on fresh white bread. I am glad to see that Vern is planting tomatoes this year. Last year, when Sarah died unexpectantly; he was in such bad shape that the only tomatoes for sale were early ones; but, he finally got out and picked more towards the end of the season. He’s planting something else at one end. They did everything together; and, she had had surgery. She had some disorder that her blood would get very thin, and then it would get very thick. They were giving her medication for this (she was getting better); then they did not change it when her blood started getting thin and she bled out. He was so pitiful. Old country family and that was the first time (in my adult life) where they brought them to the house for visitation. They were well known around the county for producing enough tomatoes to make a living at it (in just about a 4 month period). They were Sarah’s tomatoes; and, you picked them out, weighed them; and paid for them on a ‘honor basis’.

lawmille1 – You’ve joined if you post to this site. Just make sure that you click on the outline of the star so that it will turn yellow; then when you come back, click on the gray star between the bell and the gear. Tell us what you prefer to be called, tell us a little about yourself, married, children, grandchildren, hobbies, etc. You’ll get a lot of encouragement and since this is a site for “Women” [over 50] we can say about anything we want to here. We do try to not get into ‘political’ or ‘religious’ discussions because we have such widely beliefs and don’t want to get into that on this sight. Although we will say things about what religion we practice.

Carol – I used “Cliff Notes” in HS; but, the bad thing is that so did the teacher; and her questions about the books were ‘in the book’ but not a part of the ‘Cliff Notes”. We figured she had never heard about "Cliff Notes"; so some of us were 'very surprised'. I remember we asked "Mr. H" if he would be the one to call out the words for "Region"; so that we could understand what we were supposed to be 'spelling'. Was he the Principal when you attended MPHS? She could 'murder' a word. I don't even remember her name - that's how bad of an English teacher she was. My Mother had to help me all the time with writing papers (term papers). I now am an avid reader.

Kimses, I love my Blue Apron and Green Chef. The meals are shipped to the house, recipe, food and all. Everything you need is in the box except for EVOO, salt, and pepper. Portion control with no leftovers to call your name 2 hours after supper. It keeps me out of the grocery store, where I impulse shop too much, and where there are WAY too many temptations. (If it's not in the house, I won't eat it. I wouldn't run to the store and buy candy, but if it's here, it's gone. Know what I mean? Anyway, works for me and my husband.

I've been debating trying out Blue Apron. Maybe I'll target a Friday when my son it out with his friends, because Fridays are usually when I'm too tired to cook. Doesn't it get expensive though?

Call me crazy but I love to see other people happy and succeeding .

    Good Afternoon Ladies,

Meg, congrats on the Zumba class. Sometimes I think we don’t realize what we can do because we don’t try. Other times I’m shocked at what I can’t do when I thought I could. Ya just never know. Good luck with the new therapist. My dog is coughing more than usual, sounds like he is chocking on something. I heard a lady in a store yesterday telling her friend that her dog is suffering from allergies. It got me thinking that the same thing could be Pepper’s problem.

Selena, where have you been? I thought you didn’t like us anymore. Just know you’ve been missed.

Sunny, good for you on the Run for the Rose. I hope you and your DGDs have fun.

Joyce, it sounds like you made a haul at that sale. Let’s get that weight back off of you so you’ll feel better…..not that you haven’t had other things going on in your life. (((Hugs)))

Larisa, congrats for facing your fear, not once but twice. You go, girl!!!

Noreen, just an FYI; when you quote someone you can then highlight any part that you don’t need to quote and hit the space bar and it will be deleted. Then you just have left, the part you wanted to talk about.

Miriam, good for you on getting rid of things. It makes me feel so good when I can clear out things we don’t use.

JoyceSD, welcome back. Congrats on your loss. Now hang around and join in.

Kimses, the planning does take a bit of time and attention but is so worth it. Once you have many of your favorite dishes in the system, it gets easier. You can do this!!!!

Pip, that was one roaring fire!!! Did you use gasoline to start it? LOL

Beth, sending good thoughts and strength for you. We are all with you so use that to keep you going.

Heather, glad to hear you are writing again. And that it’s happy things you are writing about. 

Janie, welcome. This is a great place for support as well as information. Many of us have had success with diets over the years and like you, ended up gaining back more than we lost. We look at this as a lifestyle change to healthy eating and living. A number of the ladies here have reached their goals and stay here for support on the maintenance part of their journey. Come often and join right in.

Joyce, I can’t believe the amount of work you are putting into your dad’s house.

Denise, welcome to you as well. It sounds like you are off to a great start so just keep up the good work. Please tell
us a bit about yourself to help us get to know you.

Heather, when our handyman comes tomorrow one of the things he will do is to power wash the shutters and front door. Once they dry we will determine if they need painting. He said the color is all the way through on the shutters and they should just need a good washing. The door will need to be painted as it has a scratch on it from the wind blowing our Christmas wreath back and forth. I know you can’t wait to get your hands on Bea. **If you can lift the chunky monkey*> smiley-laughing002.gif

Lawmiller, welcome. You joined by posting. Now please tell us about yourself to help us get to know you. We also ask that you sign each post with the name you want to be called and a location, general or specific. Come often or you’ll fall behind because we do like to gab. Join right in.

CJ, reading about watching your colleague try to commit suicide with a fork reminds me of eating with my friend that is so grossly obese that she can barely walk. Part of it is because she needs a knee replacement but most of it is her weight. So sad. sadness-smiley-emoticon.gif Your trip sounds fascinating but glad you are home.

Allie, I hope you at least feel better after telling Tom off. I know I sound like a broken record but I still say to stop doing so much for him. Let him cook his own food and wash and iron his own clothes. At least then maybe he would appreciate you a little more. ((((Hugs)))) love-ya-smiley-emoticon.gif

Margaret, woo hoo that you made the paper. Too cool.

Becca, it sounds to me like you are going to have to forfeit your security deposit when you leave the apartment because you have worn it out! smiley-laughing014.gif

Karen, welcome. Your goals look good. Please tell us about yourself and sign each post with your name. This is a great place for support and information.

Noreen, I agree that it is way easier to resist certain things to eat if they aren’t in the house to begin with. OMG, you had a sugar binge that I would love. But I’d probably leave off the milk. Cinnamon is my weakness. But when I binge it’s normally on something more savory. Just too much of it.
welcome.gifto any Newbies that I missed. Come often and join in the chat. This thing works!! Please sign your post with what you want to be called. It makes it easier for us to respond to you. Also a location is great, be it specific or general. We are happy to have you join us.

I went shopping yesterday and as I looked at things I kept Barbie’s words in my head. There were some great sales but if the item didn’t bring me joy, I put it back. I did get a few cute things to round out my summer wardrobe. I made a pot of chili this morning. Hopefully this is our last cold day so may not make it again for a few months. I hope none of you had the heavy snow and bad weather but looks like many of us are cold today.
Sending good thoughts for all of you and wishing you each a healthy and happy day. happy-spring-smiley-emoticon.gif
    Words I live by:
Savor. I have to slow down and savor every bite.
    and
Opportunity. Each day offers new opportunities for good health and happiness if we just look for them and choose them.

DJ I'm with you! I can do it!...maybe. The trick is making light meals for me and more filling meals for my son and husband. But I do love my spiralized zucchini and spaghetti squash vs. potatoes and pasta. I'm becoming a pro at making dinner in 30 minutes or less.
Someone once told me that if you want something to get done, give it to a busy woman.

No kidding. You have to be organized to work, eat, sleep, exercise and fit in a shower now and then :)

Cheri- I, too, have "goal" clothes in my closet. I am currently wearing a size 16 jean, but not comfortably! LOL! But I have made it a habit to get rid of the larger clothes as I start to go down in size, to keep me from back sliding. My husband tells me "Go buy a new pair that is more comfortable." I always reply with "NO! I will NOT buy a size larger!" So...I suck it in and stick it out until the weight comes off and I can move to the next size lower. WE got this!
I either get on the stick soon or I will have nothing to wear ... All the larger clothes are long gone!

I am so hungry for good fresh produce!

Allie ... So sorry... Tom is an *kitten* ... He really doesn't get it at all!

Margaret ... Thank you for your kind words.

So, after promising to walk with me for months now, DH asked if I wanted to walk this afternoon. I called his bluff and off we went. He made it 27 minutes but that's ok! Better yet, he's promising to try and walk everyday!

    A better day here.

Kimses - good going on the spiralizer! I thought of buying one and decided it would end up clogging up the kitchen when I got bored with it. I have occasionally made zucchini shavings with a peeler, or I have a julienne peeler that makes noodle type strips. Usually I use the shiritaki noodles, but you do have to rinse them thoroughly and dry fry them. It's such a good way of cutting down calories for yourself and then filling the men up with carbs. :D

DJ - I'm with you on the buying. I usually don't buy anything on a first trawl so I can think about it at leisure. My criteria is I have to need it or absolutely love it. I am an underbuyer for most things and never waste food. I do buy a lot from Amazon though, but mainly what I really need, or for presents. The only problem is that a lot of things are only sold in multiples, so I've just had 6 jars of HOT mixed pickle delivered. It will keep. :ohwell:

I managed to come out even on calories today, so that's good. o:) I did eat some cheese. :embarassed: Accounted for it. Since I've been on this thread I am much less liable to binge, but not immune by any means. Tomorrow looks like pretty solid rain, so DH may not get to go to the cricket. We are eating out in a posh pub in the evening and his friend is driving. :drinker: Also Monday night is a deal night, so a bit cheaper. :D I had trouble getting a reservation.

    Love to all, Heather UK

Hi there I am rebooting - aka at the starting line AGAIN! Hope you don't mind if I join your group.

Resolutions for March - started to get down about the job search, paid absolutely no attention to what I was eating and didn't do any exercise because of allergies and job search funk. Hello five pounds.

    Resolutions for April

*Treadmill daily at least 30 minutes - working up to walk/run/walk - run 1 mile by EOM - Usually in the a.m. first thing
    *10,000 steps a day
*continue to work toward a whole food plant based lifestyle
*start the P90X dvds in the afternoons or evenings (still job hunting so whichever works out)
*Exercise bike during the commercials while watching tv in the evenings with hubby
*meditation in the evenings (tv goes off at 9 p.m. - meditation time)
    *get the garden planted
*Hopefully I will start a new job soon
*Get my Fly-Lady routines back in place
*Get my booty off the couch/computer and out of job search funk - a job is just part of the equation

My word for 2016 is "consistency"

Kristan- Squat challenge is still going well, even with the added weight. I think I am going to do the weights tomorrow, but if that many with the additional 10 pounds is too much I will just continue the squats without the weight.
Beth - life is funny and sometimes you gotta laugh!
Allie- Sorry Tom is being such a pill. My heart goes out to you. Thinking of you and sending love and hugs <3
Heather - The Yucatan Peninsula! That's where I lived for a year back in 1987. I lived in Cancun, before it was CANCUN! It was small and just getting started and I was one of a handful of Americans living/working there. The mayan ruins are a must see. Tulum, Chichen Itza, and Coba are all a day trip away. I think most packages offer tours or you can rent a car and take your time. When I was living there, they still allowed people to climb the steps of the pyramids (Kukulkan and El Castillo), but I think they limit the number of people who can climb. A lot of steps and very steep. IF I remember correctly, I had a much easier time going up than coming down. The steepness made it a little scary coming down, plus my size 10 feet were trying to fit on steps made for size six feet! You travel a lot, so you know how to tailor your trip to make it as "touristy" as you want. I DO recommend finding a little mom and pop type "restaurant" on the beach. Sometimes, they are just little tables set up on the beach and the locals fish and cook right on a grill beside you. I think if you talk to any local and let them know that you want something like that, they all know some one who can help you!
Patsy- Looms and weavers have always fascinated me. The blanket you are working on looks just beautiful!
Noreen- Wow! That is some wildlife in your yard! The armadillos are cute, but I think the alligator would freak me out! Are you in Florida?

I am just outside of Tallahassee in a very rural area. We see lots of wildlife! We are VERY careful.

There is nothing in the world like Old Gold. I have been blessed with a few, and hope some day I can rescue another. And is there anyone who doesn't love a lab? Don't think so.

Noreen ... Older son's mental health problems are complicated by medical problems that make most medications toxic to him. Four years ago this came out of the blue ... We've spent literally thousands trying to find a treatment that works and have had specialists evaluate our psychiatrist's plan ( at his insistence because nothing is working). How I wish I had the answer or could find someone who did. You are so right ... To find the right people and treatment would be priceless.

I don't wish harm on anyone.. But think God is getting back at Tom for being a weenie!!! His sciatic nerve is hurting him bad.. I did get the heating pad out for him...

Made me smile. You're a good soul, Allie. And far, far more patient than I! I could learn a lesson from you.

    Hi gals,

Katla – The having fun part makes it all worth while

Heather – you must have a semi stable internet today… glad to see you and to see you are writing again.

    Welcome – Janie, Denise, lawnmiller,

Alison – doing housework is contributing, you don’t have to go spend time with DH – You are right on with your description of your life with DH, but I don’t understand, if he starts the divorce proceedings you are ok with it – but you wont’ start them? I maybe blind but I don’t get the difference

CJ – somehow I missed that you were headed to Peru – the trip sound super interesting.

Cheri – thinking good thoughts about the interviews for DH

Noreen – those armadillos are funny looking…. I’ve never seen a real one!

    KJ – I love not your fathers rootbeer… I treat it as a dessert…

My god son is spending the day with me, building me a raised bed for in my garden... I have gardened right into the soil for years, but Levi thinks the garden is the dogie toilet, so need to keep things out of the line of fire- LOL

It takes a very strong woman to raise a child who is, in any way, suffering in a way we can't stop. That's a hard place for any mama to be. Through all of this, please promise all of us that you will be very, very kind to yourself. Live as healthily as you can, dear, and make sure you find time to do the things you love. After treating yourself as your own compassionate bestie, it really does come down to faith, family, and friends. At least, it did for me. You'll be in my thoughts and prayers.
