Life has been hectic for a few weeks, with barely time to breathe. My nephew is now at Sloan Kettering where they removed most of 1 lung & reconstructed his chest trying to treat a relatively rare cancer after failing chemo & radiation. Had a number of interviews, my sis & BIL came for a week, the cats got up in the dropped ceiling in the bathroom & their weight collapsed the ceiling, I injured my shoulder, neck & arm & had to stop doing weights, & the list goes on....

On the bright side, I started my new job today (yay!), cats seem uninjured, went to the Pops on Friday night where they showed Indiana Jones & the temple off Doom with the Pops playing the soundtrack live (fabulous!), & company has gone home. I hadn't really been paying attention with all of the activity here, but when trying to find clothes for my first day, I only have 1 pair of pants that fit! (Pants from long ago...). Went out and bought size 14! I'm deliriously happy (unfortunately waist up isn't reducing at the same rate as waist down). Still lots of lbs to go, but big progress.

Becca, hope all is well with DH soon.

Vicki Grand Island NE, good luck with your arm. Hope they get it all this time!

Heather, Irish Terri DJ, Lenora, GLo - Thank you for the kind, encouraging words. So sweet of you all.

Becca thanks for the comments on Jack. I do think as we get older not only do we mellow a bit, but we truly can appreciate the more important things in life and let the rest go. He wants to go shopping tomorrow, oh yeh I'm up for t hat.

At the beginning of this new way of eating, have any of you felt like giving up within 3 weeks!! I'm finding everything so time consuming as with the trainer I'm working with wants me to count my Carbs, Fats and Proteins. I'm always too low on proteins!! eventhough i have protein shake and or bar each day. Anyone have any suggestions for me. thanks in advance.
Irene (still very new at this)

I set my nutrients in the food log to reflect protein, fat and carbs. I love it. 50% of my daily caloric in take is supposed to be protein, its a challenge for sure. I'll have a couple of protien shakes each day on weight training days other days one, one protien bar and then chicken, fish and lean meats for lunch and dinner. Greek yogurt, cottage cheese, low fat string cheese and eggs are also high protein snack options. Good luck, you can do this.

Did 10 minutes of the Butt Lift DVD, held my plank for 2min 50 sec, then 50 minutes of the extremepump class. The plan for tomorrow is to do the Kathy Kaehler Basics DVD. I'll do it twice for a total of an hour.

janetr - you look fantastic!!! Thanks for sharing your pic. Lighter weights and higher reps work well. Glad to hear about your gs. Sounds like this time he just might do it

Anne - so glad you're safe. So sorry about your friend's house

Marcelyn - when I'm gone away for a while, when I get back I usually just skim the posts. It actually helps somewhat to read the personal notes others write.

Joyce - I don't remember Vince having to cut a hole in his bag when he had part of his colon removed

Today has been pretty busy, went to the extremepump class then to the airport (where Newcomers has their monthly meeting. There is a storage cabinet and I needed plates, forks, napkins, and cups for tomorrow night), then home and had to leave early for senior bowling since Vince needed to stop at CVS, then bowling, then back to CVS to get the prescription, home for dinner, then ceramics, then mahjongg.

I finished my mermaid, now I just have to let this "snow" dry. I'll post a pic of the mermaid after it dries. I probably should have taken one before I left today. I think I'll take something else to work on with me Wednesday night when we go since I think I'm going to have to wait until they get more of a certain color of paint in

We didn't see the snake at all today. Hopefully, (please god) he decided that the pickins around here weren't that good and he went to greener pastures. I can hope, eh?

Linda - welcome! Kick off your shoes and jump right in!

    Terri - 50 years! Wow!

Marcelyn - the lady at the ceramics place we went to in VA told us that red and blue sharpies won't burn off. To me, that would be great so I can mark my name and the year on the bottom of the items. I'm trying it with the wolf

Lenora - do you seriously think I looked at the snake long enough to find out what shape its head was????? Not me. As far as the meat mallet -- I do have one. The point I really was trying to make was that Vince would have to put up with inferior cuts of meat unless he wanted to go to another store, which I knew that he didn't. I've heard that Sam's meats are real good. I got this one cut once and it was quite fatty. The biggest problem I can see is that they come in such large packages. I know, I know, I can always freeze a portion. But then my freezer would get full and I'd forget the meat was in there.

Becca - your posts are always so insightful.

A big welcome to everyone new!

Irene - you'll get to know which foods are high in protein, fats and carbs by looking at the foods you log. As I recall, when I post from my tablet, I usually get a message that "this food is high in xxxx" But not on my desktop. I just have to look at the numbers in the columns.

Vicki - prayers for you. I know how hard it can be. I'd tell you not to worry, but that won't happen -- I know it BTDT

Vicki - congrats on the 14's

So husband says after his dinner of rice-a-roni, and chicken in a nice whiskey bourbon barbecue sauce, that he wishes something sweet. So I created something. I used the Bisquick sweet biscuit mix for strawberry shortcakes, and made one long biscuit flattened. Then I put raspberry jam down the middle. I then made cuts outward, and at a slant...kind of like feathers on an arrow. Then I wove the pieces together over the jam, and sealed the ends. I put an egg wash over the top and baked at 425' for 20 min. then turned it down to 350' for 7 min. When it came out I put simple icing over it (powdered sugar, vanilla, butter melted, and milk). He had two pieces with his tea. Being that I just pulled that out of my imagination, I would say I am a genius! So glad that I can make my husband happy. I know its not low calorie, but I suppose you could put fresh berries in the middle with a thickening agent like corn starch and some honey.

    Hi gals,

Jane – glad to see you back, and sending hugs!

Becca – you have a ton on your plate! One day at a time….awesome job on helping with the sweet thing

Nikki - I read that 2 or 3 times and am not sure I got it all, but yeah for the new job, yeah for smaller pants, is you arm, neck, shoulder going to be ok? And sending good thoughts for your nephew.

So I have been craving ice cream sandwiches and over the years I have tried the diet ones and none of them have been to my standards… you may not know this brand, but I love” Its It.” Oatmeal cookies, premium ice cream and the whole thing is dipped in chocolate – probably a million calories LOL - So I have found that Bryers vanilla low fat ice cream (80 cal per ½ cup) is good. So my ice cream sandwich was a low fat graham cracker, vanilla ice cream with fresh blueberries mixed in… pretty good and not bad calorie wise…next time I would squish the blueberries….

It is lavender harvest time here, I have 15 bushes and I harvest them and make lavender bags, eye pillows and dryer bags as gifts, so I spend about an hour harvesting the first bush. It smells so good.

Kim from N. California~ When I am in the mood for ice cream sandwiches I go and buy fat free graham crackers, and fat-free cool whip. When you get back home from buying these, make a sleeve worth. The cool whip is abit soft from traveling to your home. I put a big blob of the cool whip and gently put the graham cracker top on, then set them all on a cookie sheet to freeze. Then when frozen wrap in foil loosely. The cool whip is like rich ice cream...and you can have fun slowly pressing on the top and licking the cool whip as it comes out the sides...(well that is what I have fun with).

Michele - thanks for the compliment on the pic. I don't lift heavy weights at all, Larisa was telling me she does. I use lighter weights and do 3 sets of 12 repetitions of each of the 10 different exercises I do. I do weight training 3 days a weeks and cardio 3 days a week.

Kim - that is so cool about he lavender bushes and making the different items with it. I'm not sure I've ever seen a lavender bush in bloom, if so I didn't know what is was lol

Michele in NC I am glad you enjoy my writing....I don't consider my musings insightful, just say what I mean and mean what I say. I am a Gemini don'tchaknow. What is the saying:

And when she was good, she was very, very good.
But when she was bad, she was horrid!

That was me as a child....

I have a distinct memory of my mother telling me I could not suck my thumb. Ok simple request, that I must have put my crazy child thoughts and spun it up to emotional havoc. I got some scissors, (where I got them I have NOT a clue) and promptly cut off all the thumbs on ALL my dolls. Silly Becky...

lgilchrist: When I started I was highly motivated but had no idea what to do. I found MFP in a stroke of good luck, and let the program set my calorie allowance for me. I bought measuring tools so I would know how much I was actually eating. After a few weeks, I found this great group of women. I've never regretted a moment of it. If I can do it, I'll bet you can, too. You just have to want it badly enough to stick with the program for a long time. I reached my goal but I'm still here because I want to keep my focus and avoid sliding back into bad habits. You can do this. You just need to be stubborn about it.

Vicki: You certainly have my prayers. Stay in touch and let us know how things go.

Becca: I'm glad you have a date and a plan to get your DH the treatment he needs. I'll be thinking good thoughts for all of you.

Tomorrow I have to take my car into the dealership to have a fog light replaced, and I need to be there by 8 am. That means I will be leaving here before 7. I'll be doing my best to get a good night's sleep. Rush hour in Beaverton is not appealing. :ohwell:

    June Resolutions :
    1. Log every bite and swallow.
    2. Cardio exercise at least 3 days a week. Work on flexibility and back strength.
    3. Have fun every day.
    4. Drink at least three glasses of water daily, preferably more!
    5. Monitor sleep. Try to average 7 or more hours of sleep nightly.

I feel for you Lisa - my doctor dropped the ball the first time I went in thinking I had gerd and said if it wasn't happening when I was drinking then it wasn't gerd. 2 yrs later when I was having trouble swallowing and I was vomiting after eating she finally sent me to a specialist. Weird thing was I never felt like I was having acid just the other things. Hope they get you diagnosed and back to healthy quickly. You've had enough stuff going on this year! <3

Becca - I've been reading your posts with concern and keeping you and your husband in my heart and mind. Glad to hear it's "just" a stone that's to blame for all the itchiness and jaundice and that they can zap it soon. (((Hugs)))

Lisa - Yikes! I hope you and your doctors get everything under control. You've got too much on your plate to be out of commission very long. :flowerforyou:

NYKaren - Your new moniker triggers special associations in my Swedish/Norwegian-tainted linguistic space. In both those languages, "ny" means "new" and it often gets tacked onto the front of nouns as a descriptor. Here in Longyearbyen we have a neighborhood at the south end of town called "Nybyen" (=the new town), and a bridge called "nybrua", which recently replaced an one that was being washed away. So my interpretation of "NYKaren" is not Karen in New York, but The New Karen - a highly suitable and optimistic pseudonym! ;)

I doubt that this bit of news has hit the international headlines, but a cruise ship north of Svalbard had an engine breakdown while moored to an ice floe. There was never any danger to the passengers, but the ship was totally crippled and had to be towed back to Longyearbyen by the Governor's ship. It took them two days. Just in case anybody happens to hear about a "shipwreck" near Svalbard: that wasn't Heather's ship. She and her DH aren't due here until Friday.

I kept my own engines running throughout the time when my daughter and son-in-law were here: ran the half-marathon, took them out sightseeing, cooked and conversed... After we put them on the plane yesterday I more or less collapsed. My engine was nearly as dead at that cruise ship's! At 5 pm yesterday I was ready for bed. I suggested an easy dinner and my husband agreed  so we had oatmeal for dinner. I hit the sack at 7:30 and didn't get up until 8:30 this morning. Oh, the joys of being a freelancer!
