Hello Fantastic Females!
This whole shooting incident has every one a little freaked out… I just wish I thought we have seen the last of this type of thing, but, I suspect we haven’t. Everybody pray, think good thoughts or cross your fingers for things to cool down. I am with whoever said that ALL lives matter. Everyone who died was a person with hopes, dreams, achievements and families… it’s horrible. There are plenty of things to hate in this world – ugly shoes, temperatures over 100 with humidity to match – we really need to stop hating each other. (*tucks soap box back under the couch*)
Vickie/NE – sorry you are having troubles with your DD. Good luck with unearthing your desk. I do hope you can shake the blues without the change in meds…
Janet – stay strong… Don’t let your long-term, hard-earned success be blown by a momentary craving.
Lenora – those potatoes do sound good – and the potato is the most maligned of the carb world… they are the lowest in carbs of any of the starches – and before you do things like brush oil over them or bury them in cheese, they are quite low in calories. I am sure the recipe generator is up to the task of calculating for you. **I sent the crockpot recipes to you in MFP – but, I am not convinced that the delivery system is working – so please, if you have not got them in your messages, right now – message me and give me your e-mail. I will be happy to send them there.
Karen/VA – my hubby ALWAYS patted my leg – even at 367 lbs. he never made me feel less than desirable. Who could ask for more than that? I hope you enjoy to Grandbaby’s performance. I didn’t know they had “acting camps.”
Rita/CT – sorry about the unemployment stress. Been there, done that. I had some savings, thankfully, but, having burned through it all during a 6 month gap in employment, I live in fear of being laid off, now. Good luck! And good luck on getting that walk in…
Cheri – Hugs back! I have faith… you will get the new place.
Joyce/IN – Five days… now that’s more like it. And everything is easier after a good night’s sleep. Ahhhh.
Sue – Glad you had fun with the DGD. Sorry about losing your stylist. My hair has never been “right” since I moved to TX and left my stylist behind….. hope you have better luck.
Pip – I suppose a calorie burn of under 500 calories is the closest you will come to relaxing… lol. Enjoy it, ya slacker.
Becca – Water Aerobics sound divine…
Rosie – sounds like a tough day. Relax, get some rest, and try again, tomorrow.
Mary – you are a model for the rest of us... such a workout after a long trip.
Michele – the problem I have always had in the past was my cardio was working out my back – and I was unbalanced because I never did any ab work. Trust me, I am not, not, NOT into pain. And I will never believe that one cookie could make you gain even a half a pound. I am sure it’s just the usual water retention. Breathe deep. Hope your official weigh in goes your way.
DJ – Fresh Produce is like gold bars down here. I would have gone to get it, too. Besides.. peaches… mmmmm.
Barbie – DH is pretty fabulous. I decided to keep him some years back… lol.
Larissa – How are you doing, Sugar? Hope you are having a marvelous day…
Rori – After work exercise just ain’t gonna happen for me… and now, it’s just part of my morning routine… Going to the gym – conveniently located about five minutes from my house – is not a question… it’s just a question of how many sets of crunches I will do, or how long I will spend on the elliptical. Barring injury or acts of God, I believe it’s the best habit I will never break.
Margaret – glad you changed your mind and that you fully recovered. Just think of all the things you would have missed… ((HUGS))
Katla – Glad you enjoyed your breakfast!
Lisa – gas stoves really help when those storms roll thru… glad you guys got all tucked in and that you are “legal” now. And didn’t you just say that your DH would be large and in charge right away? You do know your man. Glad you guys are doing well, adventures and all.
Allie – keep taking those deep breaths. Good luck on “Mom Patrol” next week. Try to take care of yourself, too. ((HUGS))
Loomus – hello, welcome… pull up a chair, grab a cup of coffee and join the party.
Heather – can I come live with you? I will go to work and buy the groceries… you can just make delicious soups and stuff, okay? Lol.
KJ – The bike is your friend… be nice to the bike.
Lily – looking at this picture for the 2nd time, I am able to look past the adorable baby to see how skinny you are! Whoot!
NYKaren – your perspective will make all the difference in how you deal with the emotional roller coaster. Good luck! And FABULOUS that you are maintaining your proper eating and exercise… You Rock! ((HUGS!!)) OMG – KFC in puffy satin? The image is somewhat horrifying… lol. Glad we had no repeats of that episode.
Julie – welcome! See above comment about perspective on the emotional roller coaster of life… This is a great place to get a little perspective on eating and taking care of yourself.
GLo – that’s a fine looking boy, you raised. May he never experience anything even remotely like what happened here.
Marcelyn – how lovely you could spend time with the family and still get in a good long walk!
Kim – good for you for charging family for your services! And WHOOOOOOT! Gratz on the job!
Carol – It’s always a pleasure to see your smiling profile pic. *waves*
Charleen - *waves* Hi!
SusanT – Hello!
Betty – thanks for the info on the training. Working for a bank, I get to take a class every year… and yes, first, get away from the area, and if you can’t safely get away, then find cover and hide. AND if you do run into law enforcement during this type of incident – raise your EMPTY hands, keep them clearly visible and follow all instructions! Do not offer any movements that could be misconstrued by a busy officer trying to find and stop the shooter… like going for ID or a cell phone. Just go where they tell you and stay out of the way.
`````````````````````````````````````````
Today, I am reworking a less than stellar pot of mango pork… Alas, if the mangos are not properly ripe and sweet, it doesn’t really taste like much. So, rather than have a second night of “blah” dinner, I am going to fish out the pork and the potatoes and see if I can’t make some nice tacos… A little salsa, some onions and cheese… I think it will work. In any event, if it’s blah, at least it won’t be the same blah as last night. DH doesn’t mind eating the same thing twice… but only if it’s GOOD the first time… lol
Goodnight, Ladies...
Oh my, I miss a couple of days and I come back to over 200 posts! Then, I got so caught up in reading posts that I did not take notes. So I’ll just say hello to all, hugs to those who need them, and high five to those who are celebrating.
No time to post much today. Hoping for a good night’s sleep tonight. Tomorrow I run my first ever 5K. I promised my daughters a year ago that I would run the color run with them this year and tomorrow is the day.
Larissa – How are you doing, Sugar? Hope you are having a marvelous day…
Aww thank you! I had a pretty good day. I've gotten a little extra sleep the last couple days, that has gone a long way. My weight is up, darnit! But I'm doing all the things, so I'm going to give it the full two weeks before I panic. And I really do look closer to 195 than 205, so I'm trying to be gentle with myself. *sigh
Since you all were so nice about my last photo, here's one I took this morning. (umm, I wear red a lot ) The pockets in this dress flare out and make my hips look bigger than they are...but, hey, pockets!
Also, that's my trusty cane I take with me when I walk around outside. I'm up to two miles a day. There's a noticeable limp, still, but it's gradually getting better.
Larisa
P.S. Sue in WA if you are near Seattle, I know some hair people.4 -
Allie- you are a very giving person. You will make the right decision.
DJ- enjoy watching the tennis matches!
Re- I like to eat too much not to work out. During the summer there are a lot of treats around that I don't usually have in the winter.
This little deer was following behind us for a little while.
Shep still likes big sticks!
Larisa - Nice picture! Great job on the walking.0
Glo - I think Vince enjoys taking care of the pool. But he really won't admit to it. He likes to play "mad scientist", testing the water, putting the right chemicals in it. I just wish he'd use it more but he really doesn't like to be out in the sun whereas I love it.
Karen in VA - I would say that Bryan's "therapist" ambushed me. Well, what's done is done.
Kim - with all that work, be sure to make time for us!
Linda/IA - good luck on your run
Larisa - great pic. The first thing I thought of was "where in the world is Carmen Sandiego?"
Hi Gals,
So the details, I will be gardening 600 hours a year – that is 2 weeks off and 12 hours each of the other weeks, but in the winter it will be less per week and in the spring and fall more per week. The title is head gardener (but there is no other gardener at all) – so the “head” part is just marketing… It is about ¾ of an acre in organic garden, about ½ of an acre in edibles the rest is a pond, chicken coop, large potting shed, patio for classes, and a green house. There are 6 chickens, which I will help with. The edibles are something for all times of the year – herbs, annuals, a small berry patch and an orchard. It is located within a children’s camp. If you google images for Camp Arroyo – you’ll see the camp, no pictures of the garden but it is a beautiful spot in the rolling hills just outside the city. The garden is mostly for the kids to be exposed to the fact that food comes from plants, they also help with the compost of the cafeteria scraps. Excess edibles go to the kitchen and the kids and/or staff get to eat very locally. The garden was just a fenced off plot 13 years ago when my now retiring friend took it over; and now it is beautiful with raised beds, a solar powered pond, a cooling station with overhead misters - so I get to take it to the next level - I want to add more herbs, some citrus and grapes, lavender and convert one of the flower areas into just California natives…
This will make my schedule much more structured between my 2 gardening clients which are 6 hours a week, that makes 18 hours of gardening each week (about) and 25-30 + hours of embroidery each week – and 15 hours (about) of teaching cooking a month… This will affect my time with you all, but will hopefully address one of my 2016 goals, which is to be in less debt at 12/31/16 than I was on 1/1/16 - And I will be paid for exercising!!!!!!!!!! As gardening is good exercise and the garden plot is on a slope so it is quite a walk from the top to the bottom of the garden.
For the next 3 weeks I am watering a friend’s veggie garden she has 6 4x8 beds in a community garden and she’s on a garden tour in England… And it is full of veggies ready for harvest. Yummy!!! Cucumbers, peppers, tomatoes, kale, lettuce, strawberries, blackberries… I think she’ll pay me too, but just not having to go to the market is great!
I won’t start until July 18th… but if I am more erratic in my posting please know you all will be in my thoughts!
Kim from N. California
Oh My goodness!!! If you are the head gardener - can I put my application in to be your assistant? I don't think it is a "job" for you - you sound so excited - it will not be a "job" at all.
Enjoy!!
GO LINDA, very proud of you.
Re - thanks for the encouragement. I put one of Barbie's posters in front of my nose every evening and I've done great,
is that they trade what they want the MOST
for what they want at the MOMENT."
Lillian - I will be putting together a group of volunteers to come and work one morning a month; my garden club has one morning a month now and I think a second group would be great - So with all my contacts I thought I would try to put together a second volunteer group - would you like to join?
Just finished reading all of today's posts. Congrats to all successes and prayers for those who need them.
Was prepared to grocery shop and go to the gym. DH got dressed, then told me he was having chest pains. So off to ER. Did not have a heart attack, but has a long history of heart problems. Morphine took care of the pain but he started having chest pain again about 8 hrs later. He has 3 aneurisms in his heart so the dr will be looking at that. Just not sure when testing will be done.
DD was planning to move in with us August 1. She has to be out of her rented room in a week so is moving furniture in this weekend to be stored until buyer can pick it up.
Oh well, you have to be flexible.
Larrisa, I bet you get a lot of whistles when you wear your red dress! You need to wear red all the time. You look fantastic.
Mary, Minn i was so glad when Charlie's surgeon said he could resume driving. I could tell when he was feeling better. He started 'critiquing' my driving. That's a nice way of saying he was cussing me out for almost every turn and parking I did. He is an aggressive driver. I don't mind waiting for a car that is coming to pass then turn out. I know I could probably make it but why should I when I can just pull out leisurely, I'm not holding anyone back. We don't have a big schedule. I always make sure i leave early anyway. I got that from my parents. So now he drives and I hold onto my oops handle all the time. I know when he says hang on that he is pulling out when he shouldn't.
I did get my stuff at Walmart today. I just haven't fixed his pants yet.
Well the bag I put on yesterday leaked today. I'm not sure what I did wrong except that I tried to straighten the adhesive because it wasn't even. The bag has a barrier and then an adhesive. It's the barrier that keeps the poop away from the skin. The adhesive is just an extra added adhesive to make sure it's on. The one I used today is the one I was hoping would be his forever bag. These bags come in either one piece or two piece. The tow piece has a barrier you put on the skin first and then you put the actual bag on. Most of them have kind of like a tupperware seal on them. This particular brand has an adhesive permanent seal to it. The barrier piece is kind of oval and you put the bag on it. But the shape of the oval puts it over his belly button. So I put it vertical instead of it's normal horizontal position it is meant to go. There is still a little that goes over the belly button and you have to actually cut that piece out. I don't have great confidence that it will work. But this bag has a vent in it so it doesn't fill up with gas and you are going around with this bubble under your clothing. The gas just automatically releases itself. Charlie's skin just itches all over. He wanted me to use the adhesive remover pad on his skin today. I gave the pad to him and said go to it. He needs to be doing something for himself regarding this. Today he was just sitting and pondering and said how awful it would be for some one in their 30's to have one. It has really affected his confidence in himself. At the grocery store today I leaned back against him and he wanted to know what I was doing. I said I was just leaning back on him. We were waiting in line and why not lean on my husband? He didn't put his arms around my waist or anything so I took my arms and put them behind me and wrapped them around his back. He just looks so unhappy so much. I think he needs to see his grand children. They always give him a boost.
Kim, that job sounds built just for you. And the extra jobs. WOW, paid and get all your fresh veggies while she is gone.
DJ Relax & enjoy the tennis!
Kim in N. California Is this part of the garden at Camp Arroyo? It looks like a fabulous place for kids with disabilities, right? How wonderful! Looks like you will be enabling some Horticulture Therapy, no?
Re - that's a good man. I bet you pat him right back.
Linda IA Awesome! I've been thinking of doing couch to 5K... Have fun!
Larisa - Ooh la la!!! Red is your color. Lovely photo!
Mary Minnesota - I love your helpful pup, he/she looks so earnest!
Joyce Indiana - Poor Charlie. He probably doesn't feel very sexy anymore...and he is probably seriously wondering if his quality of life is actually better...but if the ostomy bag issues resolve, maybe he will perk up. In the meantime, he sounds a bit "man-fragile". Praying for bag success.
Debbie TX - so glad it wasn't an MI and that hubby is OK.
Cheri I am thinking you could make a lot of money teaching people how to downsize, declutter, and prepare for moving, especially how to roll with the punches.
Working today, going back to sleep for a couple of hours.
morning ladies~
well we had a lovely time at our friends last night,lots of good conversation ,all was well until the mosquito's came out, that is when Tom and I said our goodbyes.. it was after 9 anyway and I have to work this morning..
it is cool this morning and we slept with the windows open which was lovely...
I spoke with social worker at Portland Care and Rehab and head nurse will be back on monday and she will speak to her then and get back in contact with me.. I really think this will be a better place for him..
I am going to enjoy the next week because after next Saterday I will be extremely busy.... I will be getting Faith dressed and taking her to Sean and Jeans wedding,bringing her home and staying over, then going to work the next morning, they will be home sometime that day, and then they are leaving the 19th for a week in an RV up the coast of Maine and I will be staying with Faith and Buddy the dog.. my daughter will be coming over a couple of times a day to get him outside and feed him..so its all in the family lol1 -
joyce anyway to get the grandkids to swing by?? This is a long process for him and your gut knows what is best for him. But Make sure you take care of yourself in the midst of helping him so so so much. He will adjust but it is going to take some time. Hugs NYKAREN0
Kim in No Cal - SO pleased for you!
Joyce, thank you, I'm incredibly happy not to be illegal myself, and as a semi-public figure in this small town, it felt even weirder to be skirting the edges of the city codes.
Michele in NC - My husband and weeds are a pretty volatile matchup, up to and including flamethrowers, so I'm not sure you would want his advice!
Off to the races, busy Saturday while the DH is working, including getting the laundry done at the laundromat, one of the sacrifices we made moving into town. *sigh* there are worse things. Did laundry by hand as a child, from scrubbing on a washboard to hanging it out on the line.
Love y'all...
Lisa in West Texas1 -
Skipped a whole page of reading...I will go back and read this evening. Have to go do touch up painting this AM.
Kim ~ So excited for you. Sounds like you will be really busy but it also sounds like something you will love and be good at!
Lisa ~ Glad you got your RV set up and running.
Friday, drove down I-75 South of Atlanta to see my mom and then back again to Marietta. Spent 3-1/2 hours for this little trip. So glad I went back through Atlanta at 4 PM cause they had a very large crowd of protesters in the evening right on the I-75 downtown stretch. The good thing was that the news reported it was a relatively peaceful protest. For the first time in a couple of months we were able to get my mom out for lunch. Getting that wheel chair in and out of the car is difficult. She is having a very difficult time standing up to get in the car.
Carol2 -
Good morning ladies! Time for me to get my exercise done. I like to do it right away in the morning.
Joyce- you are a wonderful wife! It is a great idea for Charlie to learn to take care of himself good for you to give him some responsibility for his own care.
Have a great day everyone!
