Morning all, I am so sorry that I have not been consistent on here. Life has been different since my seizure. LOL the other night I was in baby girls bed getting something that had fallen behind the bed, all of a sudden I feel my DH hand trying to pull me up...I said WHAT are you doing? he said oh I thought you were having another episode. How sad is that.....yet that is my life for a bit. I am walking at night with my daughter, but that's about it. I am up .4 lbs and need to knock it off, because I really have to get my healthy and BP down. So here is to trying to be "normal" again today. LOL
@Tamevv , I am so sorry plans change...I live with a grand daughter who thinks only her timing is the best one....LOL ( I beg to differ)
. It's good you came in to update us on you..we would have to send out the hounds you know..LOL
@RetiredAndLovingIt I hope you enjoy the fair, I never really enjoyed those things...ask my kids. LOL. I looked at my protein levels when they took my blood and was happy I was in the normal range, but then my sister said...well we knew that based on how much PB you eat. LOL. I guess it seems it really is who ever you talk to and what YOU believe that is important.
@trooworld I love bagels..LOL. My salesperson would bring be a bagel every Friday morning with LOTS of cream cheese..YUM.. I am sorry I have not been on here to support you every day...but see you are moving along quite nicely without me. LOL. It's good to get on here and see the regulars holding down the fort.

Another under cal goal day 😁. Nearly wasnt, really wanted dessert but only had a hundred cals left so left the dishes and took my book to bed. Knew if I stayed in the kitchen I’d cave and the dishes will still be there in the morning.
@trooworld We’ve never really done bagels here, and even the ones we can get I’m guessing are vastly different to what you get over there 😏. I’ve made them once “properly” from scratch at home but it was years ago. And if you need to be buying food, making a healthier swap is a great step to keep yourself feeling in control, so that’s definitely a win in my book 👍. Have you ever used meal replacement shakes? I have some in the pantry that I used a lot a few years ago and had good success - life was different and it was easy to have them at work instead of having to source a meal - just tip into a water bottle, shake, drink. Took a while to find a flavour I liked but once I did it was quite a successful strategy for me.
Sorry everyone else, have to run, will try to get back on later but I appreciate the comments and support from all 👋0 -
I'm getting better a little but still have a bad cough and not up to snuff as they say. I wonder who actually said that first. No Covid. I've tested twice.
@retiredandlovingit I was going to go to the Iowa State Fair with my son this past weekend but I ended up getting sick. Did you have fun? How is your plant based eating plan going? I think 70% would be good for me but I need to figure out how to actually do it between traveling, getting sick, traveling, getting sick, etc. I've having trouble with focus obviously.
@cbabie Sorry you have been having a time of it. I guess if we all focus on "right now". Make good choices "right now".
@trooworld I've had bagels about three times this week. A disciplined me would have 1/2 bagel as a serving. But I've been eating the whole thing for breakfast.
@Tamevv It looks like you are making good choices by staying under your calorie goals. I need to get back to that.0 -
@trooworld Glad that you had fun at POM, but sorry that you were suffering from heartburn. I’m ready for the heat to end too! A couple of mornings ago, I took Maggie out and the air was so cool and crisp. It didn’t last of course but it did give me hope that fall is coming!

@RetiredAndLovingIt We have donuts at our church too and I always walk quickly past them before one jumps into my mouth by accident.
Did you go to the fair?
@cbabie I understand how your DH feels. Joe hasn’t passed out in a while now but I’m always on edge waiting for it to happen again. That isn’t much of a gain so you can get that off easy. Just hang in there and be good to yourself.
@Tamevv Good for you for saying no to dessert and walking away.
@theslightedgeforever Glad you are doing a little better. A bad cough can be so exhausting. I hope it ends for you soon!
Good morning! I lost 1.4 lbs. yesterday at TOPS. It was their 31 birthday as a chapter and we had angel food cake with strawberry sauce and ice cream. TOPS is allowed two eating events a year. Since I didn’t eat much yesterday it didn’t hurt me and I was down this morning. Today, I am taking my sister downtown to her bank and then out to the DMV because her new license hasn’t arrived and she has to go reapply again. What a pain! Todays workout is 80 Day Obsession booty and I’m already feeling the pain.

Morning all, I ate terrible yesterday and I was actually afraid of what it was doing to my body...so that is a step in the right direction. I went for a bike ride (by myself) yesterday and then went for a walk at night with my daughter. I really wish the appointment with the Dr was sooner, so I could et my life back and get a game plan...I am so ready. In the meantime, I just do what I know and push the limits with my family as much as I can.

@trooworld I hope you know we appreciate you too!!! I am glad you are well enough to go to work..LOL when does your boss leave?
@Tamevv Good for you, I would have done great if I had not gotten up to get the little one some milk...when I opened the fridge door.....CAKE called my name. LOL. I am proud of the choices you are making..I stayed up past midnight reading a book...couldn't make myself put it down. LOL
@theslightedgeforever I am so sorry you are sick, tell your body that you did not get our parent's genes!!!! You got the best ones and those are healthy ones. I can hear mom saying...MIND OVER MATTER right now..LOL. I do hope you feel better quicker than later... I am sure you must have been feeling bad not to have gone to the fair
@TeresaW1020 So good to hear from you...yea on the loss...I think TOPS is one of those communities that you either love or hate...if you love it you are a lifer...my friend is. Yes I know it's stressful for my family, that's why I try to act normal, even when I may not be feeling normal..LOL. I have usually been the one with the pooper scooper cleaning up after people...so it's kind of fun watching them..LOL. (only kidding)

Hi all, yes, we did go to the Fair for a while today. The entrance line was so slow & by the time we got there, the main parking lot was full, so had to go to the backup lot. But we finally got in & saw what we could before we got tired & decided to leave, lol. Had a great grilled turkey tenderloin sandwich. (plant based not going so good, lol). We saw the famous butter cow, but skipped the big bull, big boar, etc.
@theslightedgeforever Hope you are getting better, a summer cold is miserable. I am working on it, definitely eating more fruits & vegetables, trying to cut down dairy & meat, but haven't cut them out completely. I think it will be a gradual transition. I think I need to figure out how to handle travel, too.
@cbabie Glad you are able to walk with your daughter. Be careful riding your bike.( yes, Mom! lol) Hope your appointment comes soon.
@TeresaW1020 Yeah, the donut jumped in my mouth, lol, unfortunately it wasn't even that good. Congrats on the loss. Angel food cake would have been difficult to pass up. Fall is sneaking up on us.
@Tamevv Good job staying under your calories!!
@trooworld I am glad you are really consistent on keeping this thread going.
Well, not much more for now. Keep on keeping on, lol.

Another not so great evening with DH 😔. Wet, cold, dreary day today and would be so easy to sulk and eat and watch tv all day. But no. I’ve done the shopping (was careful which aisles I ventured into, knowing I was on thin ice emotionally), ironed clothes, some other household business and am about to go do a step workout. Popping in here is probably a stalling tactic if I’m honest, but I’m also trying to be kind to myself today and take things slowly so as to not stress myself further. I definitely want to stay in control today. There is a plan for making sushi this avo and a lemon slice. Will do my best not to taste too much along the way. Busy afternoon/evening so snacking should be a minimum and not sure yet what dinner will be till the evening firms up.
PS: yesterday was another under cal goal day 👍

Hi all. Going well, exercise every day and food is being controlled. Had a bit of a graze yesterday evening and was not going to bother tracking, but decided I would this morning and despite the slices and cookies, I’m so surprised to see im only just over cal budget! Meals were very low cal and I earned back over 400cals in exercise so I guess that saved me and is a timely reminder that exercise is TOTALLY worth the effort 😁.
@trooworld That chicken dish looks like something my husband would like 😊
Sorry to hear you are getting worn down with not seeing results - I understand that and in those windows I feel exactly the same - despite my knowing about all the other ways to “win” and no matter how much I try to focus on them, if I don’t see the numbers going down it really plays with my emotions 😔. I would say though, to try to avoid the mindset of waiting till weigh in - that always leads to trouble. Maybe just track meals but not snacks? Or just a couple of meals? And definitely keep up with your water - that’s always step one in my book 😊. (And as I write this I realise your post is a couple of days old now - I’m playing catch up, sorry - so my thoughts may be moot but I’ll post them anyway. Hope you have a great weekend 😊).
@retiredandlovingit It’s been making me smile hearing you all talk about your fairs. Our festival season starts next month usually and I can’t wait - I love wandering around the stalls and looking at all the events.
@cbabie Bike riding sounds fun - I used to go a bit with my son but it just seems like a lot of effort now - not sure why 🤷♀️ Proud of you for making the effort to go on your own - that takes motivation - nice work 👍
@theslightedgeforever Hope you’re feeling better!0 -
Hi all, sorry I am on here late. I am extremely tired. I am not really sleeping at night anymore...not sure why. I was up at 1;30 and bought some recipes on line...LOL couldn't sleep...told my daughter I wasn't going to farmer market....BUT I was up a t 5:30 and ended going to the farmers market. Got some good things...making stuffed peppers right now for dinner. LOL. Went on a bike ride after the market, got food shopping done and making a skirt for baby girl. I am TIRED....just wanted to check in with every one.
@trooworld Great job on the loss., I am very sorry you don't get to see your boss anymore until you are just friends..but at least you still get to enjoy her. LOL I am proud of you tracking, that's the hardest thing to start doing once you get into a habit of not tracking..
@Tamevv you are pushing through...great job. every little bit helps.
@RetiredAndLovingIt LOL thanks MOM... I know I have to be careful at least until I see the dr next week..LOL. enjoy your weekend

Hi All!
Loved the photos of Scotland! Can only imagine what it must have been like to live in those places back in the day.
Been busy with work and now getting all my ducks in a row for graduate school. I was accepted! Just got the email yesterday and now trying to get the paperwork ready for work so they will reimburse me at the end of the semester. Very exciting. Classes start next week!0 -
@gemwolf110 Congratulations on getting accepted!! A new and exciting journey begins. Make the most of every minute and enjoy yourself along the way 😁👏1

I can't believe it's been 4 days since I've posted. Time just flies here. Well bingeing Stranger Things and Outlander doesn't help. My cough is getting better but still there. I've pretty much diagnosed myself with asthmatic bronchitis. I sound like a car trying to start but won't. But it's getting better.
@teresaw1020 Yaaay on your weight loss. Do you have a new profile pic or have I been gone that long?
@trooworld I tried chicken soup but it doesn't do anything for me either. I've gained more weight with being sick than I did on vacation. I'm going to begin moving my body again at the gym on Monday. That will give me a couple of more days. Did you begin tracking again? You may not care now but later when you step on the scale or don't have as much energy you will. That's what I tell myself when I get in those moods.
@cbabie Glad you had a bike ride. You know me. I would 'milk it' for as long as possible and let the others around me do things. That's what I've been doing the last week.
@Tamevv Great job on tracking even though you wasn't planning on it and it showed you that you just went over a bit. Yes exercise is good for us.
@retiredandlovingit Yes, I need to figure out some more plant based meals other than just salad all the time. The fair sounds fun. Sorry I missed it this year. I've barely gone out of the house since I've been sick. Tomorrow we're going to Minneapolis. It will be fun to just get out and I'll get to move my body a bit at the outlets.
Can't wait to start earning green dots again.

@theslightedgeforever same profile pic. You have been gone too long!

@gemwolf110 Congratulations on getting accepted into grad school!
@trooworld hey you know that every loss must be celebrated! But I get how you are feeling. My sister is crushing her weight loss goals and I'm over here taking one step forward and two steps back. Only myself to blame.
@cbabie Sounds like you had a busy day with the farmers market and bike ride. Take it easy on yourself!
Good morning! Sitting here waiting to go to church and thought I would pop on. Not too much going on lately. I've been planning our anniversary trip in October to Gatlinburg, TN. I'm really looking forward to just getting away with my Joe and enjoying some awesome scenery, time alone, and of course some great food.
Tonight we have a church potluck and trivia night. Should be fun and I'm determined to not overeat. Tomorrow I'm having lunch with some girlfriends but already plan to have the spinach salad with a light dressing. I really need to fit back into my fall clothes before the weather changes!

@trooworld Howdy! I finally finished that book you recommended - The Fifth Season. Took me a couple of goes to get into it, and then once I did, once things started to come together, I had to reread some portions to make sure I had the sequence of events straight in my head. Can say now I really enjoyed it although I find the style of the author a bit annoying - but I won’t go into detail on that right now, unless you are particularly interested 😊. I’ve got the next two books on hold so hopefully they won’t take too long to be available. Thanks for the recommend!0
-
@gemwolf110 I missed the acceptance into grad school. Woohoo!
@teresaw1020 How did you fare with food at the potluck. I know one of your triggers.
@trooworld Yaaay on tracking. Funny thing about your WW topic. I had just sent that sentence to my sister about 10 min ago. Sorry about your feeling lonely. Is there anywhere for you to volunteer during some of the times he's gone? How about your art? Dr. Google
Nah, I'm good. I know they aren't going to do anything for me. I'm better now. My cough was sounding just like it did the last time I had bronchitis now mix that in with my RAD (reactive airway disease). My friend in Chicago has an awful sounding cough now. Worse than mine. I started mine the day I was visiting her after coming in from Scotland. She went to the doctor on Friday and they gave her Zyrtec and Flonase. :rolls my eyes:
@Tamevv How was your food and exercise today?
@cbabie Could the insomnia be a side effect from medication? I hope you figure it out.

So I’m going really well with food and exercise this week (and I better have a somewhat decent loss this or I’m going to have a right tantrum😂). But also wanted to note a change I’ve seen this last couple of days. I’ve found myself back in the numbers game. Which is mostly a good thing - I’m aware of what things “cost” and “earn”. But the downside is a trap I also fell into with WW - that it comes to evening and I have cals left to “spend” so there is a part of my brain that really really wants to just cause I CAN. It’s like, instead of just stopping eating, I go “ooh I can have cake or chocolate or whatever I fancy”. Then those voices are actually really hard to ignore. Maybe it’s cause I’m tired and worn down my evening, maybe it’s just cause I gave such a sweet tooth and I really do enjoy those foods. But that trend is annoying me. The numbers game is both motivating and dangerous for me. I tell myself that so long as I stay under budget I’ll be fine - that is a WW hangover that I want to drop - I don’t want to see it that way. I need to switch to seeing those leftover numbers as reward numbers or something else - something other than surplus left ro be “spent”.
@trooworld I just picked up the second book - but a busy evening so won’t get into it till 8:30, then likely as not I’ll be asleep by the end of the first chapter 🙄

@trooworld Yeah, I’ve don’t that kind of thing before, mixed success but I’ll do it again and see if it helps. Sometimes the physical visual reminder can be enough to jolt me back to my senses.
As I type I’m sitting with coffee, heat pack and a slice of cake (okay two - but they are the super thin ones from that cake i portioned out a while ago - and I’ll track them both I promise). Needless to say, not a great morning. My sons had a fight and one actually punched the other. First time I’ve had to deal with this and it’s made me sad 😢. They are 11 and 13 and as kids they’ve got physical of course but this is the first real violence in anger. Also I’m fragile anyway because i think I’m a bit PMS-ey and DH was insensitive this morning, and one of my students is really struggling and I know I’m on emotional support duty today but knowing what she is going through on top of everything else I don’t know if I can keep it together and not burst into tears myself! I totally have to go to work with game-face on and very firm boundaries to my own emotions today. I’m no use to her if I fall apart myself.
So I’m sitting here taking a moment. On the positives I got up and did my exercise although only 15mins this morning. Still did it tho. Water is going good and for the most part eating well.0 -
Thank you all! So I was going to start next week but the tuition reimbursement program with my employer is not going to be approved in time so I have to defer starting until the spring. Oh well gives me time to save more.0
-
@trooworld Looks like you got in some water. That's good. Plus you did some meditating to help with the depression. Did you go back and track your food?
@Tamevv Start talking back to those voices in your head... Yes, I could have cake and still be under my calorie goal but I'm not going to because cake isn't healthy for me right now. So how about you make a game with yourself. Think of things you would like to buy. They cost X number of left over calories. You can either buy a bunch of small things or save them for a larger more expensive item.
Look at all the positives you had on a "bad" day. If the anger continues, do you have access to an anger management specialist? I had to take my son to one when he was about 15.
@gemwolf110 Booo on the setback but I always think when things happen like this it's usually for some good reason. Now you have a whole semester where instead of focusing on your studies, you can focus on yourself and lose some extra weight you want to get rid of. That way when school starts in the spring you will be a more energetic, thinner version of yourself.
I got 2/3 towards my green dot today. Blasted water! Have any of you seen the app called Daily Dozen? I think it's a good way to set some mini goals towards eating more healthily. It's things to add to your day. I think I want to start with the cruciferous veggies daily as a goal and learn to be consistent with that and then I'll pick something else to work towards. I might even post my # of checkboxes that I got for the day. I just counted them up and I got 14/251 -
Hi @theslightedgeforever. Thanks, I like the idea of doing direct comparisons of what I could save up for instead. I do a bit of this already during the day - weigh up what I could “afford” instead and it works well during the days. Re: anger management I don’t think we are there yet, he felt so terrible after. Lots of tears all round this morning. The rest of my day was okay though, support included kitchen time and given the circumstances I didn’t want to say I wasn’t going to eat her food, so lunch was hijacked and then small saga with other kids this afternoon led to a bakery trip and here we are. Maybe there was something in the air here today cause all the teenagers around me seemed to have a doozy. Tomorrow is my day off so planning a quiet one to recover.0 -
@gemwolf It’s good they will keep the place for you now you’ve been officially accepted. Will also give you opportunity to get a head start on readings and set up study space or stationary etc if you need to. I like planning time 😊.
Yes I’m very happy that they will do that. And I like planning time too. Gives me time to pick out the right laptop.

Yes it does. A few other things popped up so it is better that it was delayed. Everything happens for a reason.0 -
Morning all, Well reading the post, really makes me stop and think about Life. I too have been fighting depression this week, anxiety...it's been a week. I haven't had another seizure, trying to learn ways to keep calm, bp down, etc...I blame some of this we all go through on our world itself. Seems we all as humans worry a lot more, or are more hateful, etc. I am looking for that "peace" that passes all understanding..
.
@trooworld I will be keeping you in prayer, depression is nothing to take lightly...It really is a life sucker and I am here to tell you I want to be living not existing...how about you....we work together?
@tamevv So sorry to hear about the boys...seems like it's in the air...you have a good head on your shoulders and I know you are using them...I have to say I play the numbers game too..LOL
@gemwolf110 So happy to hear you get tuition reimbursed.. that's great...yes please take this time to get other things in your life ready for all the studying you'll be doing..LOL. I am so excited for you.
@theslightedgeforever you like your little boxes...want to do some of mine? I would NEVER have chosen the cruciferous veggies as my first choice. I was looking at those and wasn't a whole lot I am interested in....you know me and my veggies..LOL

I fell asleep in front of the telly last night and then slept in this morning, must’ve been tired. still got myself up and managed 30 minutes of exercise before getting started for the day. Step rate was a bit slow this morning and heart rate and down but I know I’m doing a proper workout later so this was just a bonus. I’ve also adjusted my breakfast - my usual is a slice of fancy seeded bread loaf (expensive but I buy just for me cause I love it - no one else eats it so it lives in the freezer and I just use one slice per day. Feels like a special treat - kinda sad actually when a slice of bread is your highlight 😂). Anyway I have it with my favourite sauce and two eggs. The last few days I’ve been having just one egg, and today I’m going to do without the sauce. I’m undecided if I’ll stick to that because I really enjoy breakfast, but for today at least I’m looking forward to just salt and pepper.0
-
@Tamevv I have always had a hard time coming up with "rewards" if I meet a goal or something. I might have to play that game I suggested myself.
@gemwolf110 Spring seems so far off but it will be here before we know it. I love springtime and all the flowers blooming.
@trooworld I had once read depression is anger turned inward. Is there anything that you are really angry about? Or maybe write in your journal, I'm really depressed because and then just see what comes out. It's not a matter of finding solutions right now but just feeling the feelings and getting them out of your head.1 -
@trooworld. So sorry to hear you’re struggling 😔. Seems like you are trying a few different things which is great, hopefully something will make today a bit easier. I’m home today so will look up that numbers book you two are talking about as well - each new idea or perspective has the potential to motivate me or “click” in a new way 😊.
I’ve been really tempted already this morning but haven’t caved yet and got a few things done. Feeling hungry though. And I need to meal plan which is sometimes a trigger. The sun is shining and weeds outside are calling to me but I’m not sure if that is just a distraction or not, so I’m going to do the step workout first then see if I still feel up for the weeds later on. Will delay meal planning till I feel stronger willed.
PS did do half an hour of weeding but my legs were sore!0 -
Morning all. Early start for me today but I’m up and drank water and did 5 mins on the elliptical - not much but enough to keep me in routine.0
-
@cbabie I totally agree - the stuff kids worry about and deal with these days are so different from what I went through. I know every generation has its struggles, but I think the biggest difference now is the lack of human interaction - in person. Support networks are different now and my kids can keep telling me how online groups make them feel connected and so on, but nothing beats actually sitting beside someone and sharing space.0
-
@cbabie You know why I chose the cruciferous veggies first? "While eating fresh fruits, beans, vegetables, seeds, and nuts have been all been shown in scientific studies to reduce the occurrence of cancer, cruciferous vegetables are different. Instead of a one-to-one relationship against cancer, they have a one-to-two relationship with a wide variety of human cancers. In other words, as plant food intake goes up 20 percent in a population, cancer rates typically drop 20 percent. But as cruciferous vegetable intake goes up 20 percent, cancer rates typically drop 40 percent.
Fuhrman, Joel. The End of Diabetes: The Eat to Live Plan to Prevent and Reverse Diabetes (pp. 127-128). HarperOne. Kindle Edition.
@trooworld I'm glad to see the depression is lessening.
@Tamevv If you are hungry, could you eat a piece of fruit or veggie? Good job on your consistency with water and movement.
Guess what I got today. 🟢 Plus I got 15/24 on my Daily Dozen.
My f\v: butternut squash, cauliflower, corn, cherries
I lost 1.6 lbs this week0
