Hi all! I'm so glad it is already Weds. I had a good day as far as exercise goes yesterday: I was able to take a 10-minute walk at work, and I went to the gym after work and rode the bike for 21 minutes. I tracked everything as well.

@achagpar here is a recipe for one type, a chocolate-mint "ice cream":
    • 3 frozen bananas (slice them before you freeze them)
    • 3 tbsp Unsweetened Cocoa Powder
    • 1⁄2 tsp peppermint extract
    1. Remove the banana slices from the freezer and let stand for about 5 minutes.
    2. Add the banana slices, cocoa, and peppermint extract to a food processor and pulse until the banana slices are finely chopped. Then puree until mixture resembles soft-serve ice cream.

I haven't tried this recipe, so I can't say if it is good, but I have tried others that are just frozen bananas in the food processor. I would try this one though. Let us know if you try it.

@theslightedgeforever sitting outside with a book is one of my favorite things too. I love Leslie Sansone, although she can be a little peppy lol.

    Afternoon,

I have been going and going ang going..I have tracked everything, got 20 min on the treadmill and hopefully will keep on track the rest of the day. I feel a little under the weather, but I refuse to accept that.

@trooworld Great job on keeping your body moving, I might try the chocolate mint, but not sure, it might give me heartburn. Thanks for the recipie, I never thought about using cocoa.

@achagpar thanks for the encouragment...I am usually one that just won't give up on something almost to a fault. So when I can't get this right...it bugs me. LOL

@theslightedgeforever not ready for zumba yet....I will let you do that. :)

trooworld Yaaay on the exercise The faux ice cream sounds good I think I would add a T of mini choc chips. You could also leave out the mint and fold in 1 T of PB.

cbabie I wonder where our persistent gene came from Good for you on a successful day.

Hi all! Well, I thought I was going to switch my weigh in day to Thursdays, but I got on the scale this morning and didn't like what I saw, so maybe I won't. lol We'll see what it says tomorrow. I know I haven't been drinking enough water and haven't been doing a good job with tracking, so it's entirely possible I had a true gain. I went to the gym again last night, got on the bike for 26 minutes + at work I went for a walk for about 26 minutes at lunchtime. Who am I? lol

@cbabie maybe you feel a bit under the weather because you've been going and going? Great job tracking everything and getting on the treadmill, WTG!

@theslightedgeforever mini choc chips sound like a great addition, as would be pb or pb2 powder. Yum!

Afternoon, Sorry my mornings are crazy this week..actually my days and nights are. LOL I like being busy though. Makes you feel like you are worth something. I tracked, walked on Treadmill and was good on calories. Today I am wanting more carbs, but I have things here that are low in calories and healthy that I am eating. Like have you tried "Off the Eathen Path" humus/garlic/basil chips? YUM.

@trooworld great job going to the gym, who are you? You are someone that cares about her health!
    @theslightedgeforever Vinnie....LOL

Definitely going to try the faux ice cream idea!

As for my accountability post, I've been hanging in at around the same weight --- 3.2 lbs to goal. I track, get at least 8 glasses of water and am within my calorie allotment. Didn't make it to the gym today but will try to get there tomorrow. The last few lbs are the hardest to shake but I'm going to be patient... it's a marathon, not a sprint.

Hi all! I feel fabulous even though I had a colossal gain this week. I scarfed down my lunch while working yesterday and went for a walk on my break even though it was really hot out. Traffic sucked last night, it took 1 hour 20 minutes to get home. :( Anyway, I have to run. Have a great day everyone!

@cbabie you did great, congrats! I have not tried those, but they sound yummy. I don't know who the heck I am...send out the rescue squad for the old me lol.

@achagpar they say the last few pounds ARE the hardest, hang in there! You'll get it done!

trooworld Get back to drinking more water and tracking each bite. Yaaay for your walk.

cbabie You are always worth it whether you are busy or not. Your work doesn't define you. sounds like you had a good day. Repeat I hope I got her longevity gene too.

achagpar I've always heard that those that ease into goal weight maintain it the longest. You are on the right track

Okay, not so good this last couple of days...been on the go, change in schedules...etc. I am gone all day today again, not sure what I will be eating. I have training at church and they will be providing "light snacks" I am taking some almonds and a banana, always takes the edge off. I just figured a way to get some of my exercise equipment back into a place I can use them, so hopefully this will get me back to my place of health.

@trooworld I hated nights when traffic was like that. I told my granddaughter yesterday, I was not looking for work so far from home anymore. I drove 9 years like you are and I had no choice, but I am looking for work closer to home now.

@theslightedgeforever I think we all need to drink more water, I think that is the cause of part of my headaches.

Hi all! It's 10:46 a.m. and I just got back from healthy grocery shopping. Groceries were substantially less this week thanks to buying no meat and less dairy (going vegetarian this week...not permanently and not 100%, just as is convenient). I am starving, haven't eaten anything yet today. Hubby is making a breakfast sandwich right now which will serve as breakfast and lunch. Will be high in calories, but it's okay. Tonight, we are going to dinner with a group of people we know. I don't know if I will make it one of my 4 fun meals (this morning's sandwich won't count as a fun meal because the calories will equal out to be both breakfast and lunch together), or if I will order something healthy. Depends on my mood.

@theslightedgeforever I definitely have been working on drinking more water and tracking each bite...since Monday. Hopefully it will help.

@cbabie it's a good idea to take your own snacks just in case their idea of "light snacks" is disasterous. Yeah, I didn't realize how far the drive would be when I took the job, but I love my job and wouldn't trade it for the world even with the commute. I hope you find a job close to home. Dehydration can definitely cause headaches.

cbabie Glad you figured out the exercise part. Now onto the meals. Start with breakfast. Choose three breakfasts. Keep in mind your schedule. are you sitting down enjoying every bite or our you driving somewhere. This helps you know what kind of breakfast you need. How much time you have to prepare it etc. Then add those three to whatever days are good for you this week. Then pick three other days and just "copy to" those days. That leaves you just one day to figure out. You could have that day a special breakfast eating your favorites. I allow myself either pancakes or french toast on Fridays. Once you have one week of breakfasts filled in to your food diary all you have to do is just copy to the next week for whatever day you are on.

trooworld On the weekends we just end up having 2 meals and then my 2 planned snacks. Breakfast sandwiches sound good I might have to add one to my week. Hoping your habits will lead you to a good weight loss this week.

Hi all! Well, we went out to eat last night it was supposed to be with a group but only one other person showed up. It ended up being a good time, just the three of us. We went to the Yard House and I got a Tennessee hot chicken sandwich with fries and didn't eat all the fries. I also enjoyed a beer. I was able to track all of it thanks to it being a chain restaurant (they had the nutritional info on the website). Today, it's back to healthy eating. I don't know what I will have for breakfast, probably pumpkin oatmeal. I just know I can't have another one of my hubby's breakfast sandwiches today.

@theslightedgeforever sometimes we just do 2 meals no snacks, depends on what kind of meals we have. The breakfast sandwich was good. I'm hoping the habits will lead to a loss as well!

Hello all! Looks like I'm talking to myself today, I must be too early lol. This weekend was a really good weekend: lately, I haven't been tracking my food on the weekends and I think it's been causing me problems, but this weekend I tracked everything that I ate. Not only that, but I went to the grocery store and saved a substantial amount of money thanks to not buying meat and reducing the amount of dairy I bought. Yesterday, I spent about 2 hours cooking healthy meals. Hubby took over and cooked the rest of the meals for the week so cooking is done and there are no excuses to buy food out. On the menu for the week is:
    • Monday: Creamy curry kale and chickpeas with rice
    • Tuesday: Pinto bean and quinoa taco filling
    • Wednesday: African-inspired sweet potato and black bean burgers with baked fries
    • Thursday: Broccoli slaw stir-fry with tofu and rice
    • Friday: probably pita pizzas

Incidentally, I had a healthy breakfast yesterday, it was a "Zen breakfast" which was tofu, zucchini, brown rice and teriyaki sauce. It was supposed to have egg whites but hubby forgot to make them. Have a good day, everyone!

Hello. I am looking to join a group to be accountable to and share in weight struggles. I have started over many times and hoping this is time I will be successful. I am turning 60 this year. I feel 40, I am afraid that being overweight will start to cause health problems which I do not have and do not want.

Hi all. Yesterday was a great day as far as health goes. I was under in my calories, I rode the bike at the gym for 42 minutes, I went to a retirement party and had just a small piece of cake, it was just excellent. Now to just repeat the rest of the week.

@cbabie tracking is definitely important. You've got your PB2 ready for the week...why not pre-track it? ;) Thanks, I appreciate your support!

@theslightedgeforever I've never tried pumpkin oatmeal either but I guess I will! I don't like flatout bread, it tastes to rubbery to me, but I do like to use pita bread to make pizzas. Thanks for the highlights and CONGRATS ON YOUR LOSS!!!

@dlm4mom welcome to the group! I'm similar to you in that I am overweight and do not have health problems yet from it but do not want them. Actually, if you asked my doctor, he'd blame any of my complaints on my obesity. lol But anyway, welcome and please, come back! :D This is a great place to hang out and chat.

Morning gals, I was under calories yesterday, did my 30 min treadmill. I didn't make my steps, now that I am not working getting 10K seems unrealistic. I will have to evaulate that. I made some "ice cream" with 1/2 cliffbar chocolate mint protein bar, 1T PB2 premade and 1 banana. it was yummy. (well to me anyway)

@trooworld yes I need to pretrack, like my breakfast today...I won't have time to make eggs so it will be a protein shake, I will be in a car from 10 - 2:30 today so trying to plan ahead for that. However, I didn't know this until late last night...so that is my life and it's sometimes hard to plan.

@theslightedgeforever I have the picture on my vision board, so thank you for that.

@dlm4mom Welcome to this group. I have no medical issues at this point in my life, except I was diagnosed with pre-diabetic a little bit ago. Both my parents were diabetic and I think most of the diagosis was due to the stress I have been under this year. However, I know this is a concern, so I am now making it a point to make changes that will be a life changing change. We are small at times here, but we all support each other and it keeps us accountable for our own health. Look forward to seeing your posts.

@dim4mom Welcome to the group I'm right there with you only I'm 53. I've finally found a plan that's working for me. I've been trying to lose weight for more than 18 years. I've stuck to this one the longest though. I have very bad family genes and trying not to become my parents.

trooworld Look at you. what a great day you had. So you know you can Just repeat. LOL on your dr. Awareness is the first step.

cbabie Hooray for your good day Realistic step goal. The point is to make yourself move more. At your job wasn't it a desk job or you drove to see clients. How did you get it in before? I have a 8000 step goal. I purposely lowered it from 10000 because that is perfection to me Staying at home makes you be creative on how to get in steps other than formal exercise. When your Blaze buzzes, get up and move to finish your 250 steps for the hour. As we age we have to keep our joints and muscles in good shape, That's only through use. I'd rather be sitting reading. So let's talk about breakfast and lunches and fit them into your lifestyle. Like breakfast, pick 3 go to lunches. Make them quick and easily prepared if that's what your lifestyle calls for. Will the protein shake keep you filled up along with whatever you are eating for lunch? Because if not, then you will come home at night and eat everything in your house. So when thinking about your breakfast and lunches think about what combos go together. Not enough time for eggs......options 1) get up earlier 2) Have plain scrambled eggs. They can be cooked in 5 min or less. 3) Have spinach washed and chopped in advance so you can just throw it in or any other vegetables if that's how you like your eggs 4) Make breakfast sandwiches and throw them into the freezer so you can just pop one out and into the microwave

Well yesterday was another good day. Went to the gym after work even though on Tuesdays, I am super tired due to work activity. I did 30 minutes on the recumbent bike. Last night, we had the quinoa and pinto bean tacos and I swear, I didn't miss the meat. They were totally delicious! Yesterday's breakfast was a fail: I made protein pumpkin oats. I don't know what it was about them, but they were gross. Maybe it was the vanilla protein powder in them. Yuck. Won't make those again. Anyway, have a great day everyone!

@cbabie 30 mins on the treadmill is great! That "ice cream" sounds yummy to me, too.

trooworld You are rocking the exercise this week. Good for you

cbabie The whole point is to make it easy or you won't stick with it. You'll figure this out

Tomorrow I have a party to go to. I need to get my exercise done early on the day. I've got my meals preplanned and I've left alot of calories available so I don't overeat. I've asked the hostess what she will be serving so I can plan better. The key will be sticking to portion sizes.

Hi all! I had a good day yesterday. I have to run but here's the rest of my post:

@cbabie here is the recipe for the tacos:
Pinto Bean and Quinoa Taco Filling:
1 medium red onion chopped fine (about 1 cup )
1 medium bell pepper any color chopped (about 1 cup)
    2 cloves garlic minced
    1⁄2 cup quinoa rinsed well
    1 cup water
2-3 teaspoons high-quality mild chili powder more to taste
1 teaspoon ground cumin more to taste
1⁄2 teaspoon salt or to taste
1⁄4 teaspoon chipotle chile powder or to taste
    2 cups pinto beans, well-drained
    1 cup frozen corn kernels
    hot sauce to taste

Heat a 3-quart non-stick sauté or sauce pan over medium-high heat. Add the onion, and cook until it begins to soften, adding water by the tablespoon if needed to prevent sticking. Add the bell pepper and cook for another 2 minutes. Add the garlic and cook, stirring, for another minute.

Add the quinoa, water, and seasonings. Stir well, bring to a boil, reduce heat, cover and cook for 15 minutes. After 15 minutes, turn off heat and allow quinoa to stand until all liquid is absorbed, about 10 minutes.

Add the beans and corn to the quinoa. If it seems dry, add a little of the bean broth, but not enough to make it soggy. Add hot sauce and additional chili powder, cumin, or chipotle powder to taste. Cook over medium heat until warmed through.

And then just put in a tortilla and add the toppings and cheese if you want cheese...it's really good. Thanks for your support.

@theslightedgeforever thanks! Unfortunately, that's all the exercise I'm getting this week, unless I get some this weekend...I have things to do after work the rest of this week. It sounds like you have a good plan for the party, good luck!

Wow, I didn't make it on here today...even though I felt like I binged last night, I was only a little over calories. Tonight, didn't do so well. I got into the ice cream. I now know it's a thing I can't just have a little. So I am going to not eat it for a week to get my self back on the good side of health. I know that I will never say never on here, but I also no that I can't eat only on cup, I need 2. Planning for it works, but I would like to challenge myself for 1 week no ice cream.

@trooworld that recipie sounds delicious. I am going to try that. Thanks for posting. I am glad that you already know that your plans for the nights the rest of the week are stopping you from exercise, but the best part is it doesn't stop you from moving forward!!!

Hi all! Just checking in... I'm 2.2 lbs to goal now. Was a bit bummed out with a 0.2 lb gain this am -- yes, I'm a daily weigher and know things fluctuate but I was at 127 for the past 5 days! You'd think if the scale was gonna fluctuate, it could have been kind enough to drop 0.2 rather than gain it... but oh well. I'm down 1 lb for the week. I continue to try to get to the gym everyday, get my water in and stay below my calorie count. I was pretty psyched yesterday -- I survived (and almost enjoyed ?!) a boot camp class! I remember when I took my very first boot camp class (about 15 lbs ago), I swore I would never take another one... but this time, the instructor was not mean and I could actually push through. So proud of myself. I think these last couple of lbs just have separation anxiety... so it may take a while to lose them. And I get that they're vanity pounds. I look good now, fit into my clothes etc, but dang -- I still want to see that goal number on the scale! Maybe this is God's way of teaching me patience.... slow and steady gals! We'll all get there... Have a great one!

trooworld That recipe sounds good I'll add it to my list. Party went well I avoided all the candy and drinks. I stayed within calories but over carbs by 10 So exercise this weekend. Maybe you and your husband could take a walk together.

cbabie while you are avoiding ice cream, rewrite this sentence for me. You said, I can't eat only one cup of ice cream, I need two. Change the words I can't to It's hard to......then at the end of your sentence add but I will find a way. Yes I mean, type it out on here. Diabetes is not a choice.

Hi all! I've been so busy I forgot to check in. Went grocery shopping on Saturday and then went out for drinks with my sister-in-law and hubby last night. That was fun. Today, I'm going with 2 colleagues to celebrate my birthday and my colleague's birthday. We are going for a late brunch (1pm). It's really lunch, but to my colleague, it's considered brunch since she gets up so late lol. It's going to be a busy day. Yesterday, I made BBQ jackfruit sandwiches. Jackfruit is an Asian fruit that is supposed to be very healthy for you. A lot of vegetarians use it to substitute meat because it doesn't have a lot of flavor but the texture can mimic meat. The sandwiches came out okay, the texture did mimic a pulled pork sandwich but it just tasted like bbq sauce. I made it with an avocado coleslaw on top of it.

@cbabie that's how I am with pizza...I can't have just 1 slice, I might be able to do 2 slices, but I really prefer 3 slices so I don't have it very often.

@achagpar congrats on the 1 lb loss and surviving boot camp class! I wouldn't dare try one of those but I'm really far from goal, maybe when I am closer? Good for you!

@theslightedgeforever great job with the party! We did end up walking last night when we went out with his sister.
