Hi all! Well, I did very well at the retirement party (see in the comment to slightedgeforever below). Today, we are having a country-western themed bbq at work. I don't know what the sides are, but we could pick our protein. I picked grilled chicken breast. I'll be sure and drink lots of water (which I have been doing).

@cbabie thanks! At least you tracked.

@theslightedgeforever I did well, the appetizers were small (think one bite mostly, except for a chicken satay skewer which was about 3 bites), and I had 1 of each (there were 4 types of appetizers). I also had 2 mini-cupcakes, which were about 2 bites each. I didn't know what the appetizers would be, so it wasn't possible to track in advance (it was a fancy catered event). For the next one, I might be able to do that because there was a sign up sheet and it's pot luck style. Good idea to pre-track that. Flourless chocolate cake tastes like a very dense, very good chocolate cake, very fudgy.

Morning, I tracked again yesterday. Again I went over, but I tracked. I will be getting the two together soon.LOL

@trooworld Great job on your choices. I think each of us are learning in our own way on what choices feel right to us. I think I have a recipie that I used to make my dad that has no flour in it. I am going to look that up and see if it's worth making again.

@theslightedgeforever you are right out taste buds do change as we eat healthier food. I remember when I hadn't eaten fast foods in forever and when I did it was so salty I almost gagged. The same with Jif, when I do get off of it, (I did before) when I took a bite it tasted like lard. ugh..I will get there again.

Okay gals, off to the treadmill and Bible reading.

Hi all! Okay, I weighed in and I'm up 1.4 lbs. Not the weigh in that I wanted, but I'm not entirely surprised. Oh well, back to business and back to being mindful of my eating and choices. This week was a tough week, with my anniversary plus a birthday celebration and then the retirement party. I did the best I could do. Now I move on. I hope you all have a great day!

    @cbabie great job tracking!

Morning, well afternoon I guess. I did track and if I hadn't had the one ice cream cone...I would have been OP..LOL But it had been a day and I said...okay I don't care...I will care tomorrow, but not today.

@theslightedgeforever you missed your check in..LOL. I guess you have all day to show your lovely face and give us your great ideas. I bought some cauliflower..Now I just need to figure out what I want to do with it.

@trooworld The good part is we are now more aware of what our bodies need and how not to have the gain, or what bloats us, etc. So I think each of us has pushed forward another level.

Hi all! Happy Saturday to you. I meant to go to BodyPump this morning but I overslept, so hopefully, I will get in some sort of exercise today. I'm going for groceries in a bit. One of our friends is coming over at 4pm and is making us food. I highly doubt it will be healthy, so I planned it to be one of my 4 allowed "fun" meals. I hope he doesn't make chicken legs, chicken thighs or any kind of organ meat because I don't like those things lol. I'm kind of picky about proteins.

@cbabie I hate when that happens. It happens to me a lot. Here's a cauliflower recipe that I really like (the garlic isn't as strong as it may sound like it will be):

    Italian Roasted Mushrooms and Veggies
    1 lb cremini mushrooms cleaned
2 cups cauliflower cut into small florets
2 cups cocktail ("grape" or "cherry") tomatoes
    12 cloves garlic peeled
    2 tbsp olive oil
    1 tbsp Italian seasoning
    salt and pepper to taste
    1 tbsp fresh parsley chopped

Preheat oven to 400 F degrees.

In a bowl add all the mushrooms and veggies. Drizzle with olive oil then add Italian seasoning, salt, pepper and toss until well combined.

Dump the veggies to a baking sheet and place in the preheat oven. Roast for 20 to 30 minutes or until mushrooms are golden brown and cauliflower is fork-tender.

Garnish with fresh parsley before serving.

trooworld Yaaay on the retirement party. What I do when I'm invited to an event and I don't really know what they will be serving is pretrack something similar so the amount of calories is already in my food diary and then I can work around it for the other meals. Otherwise I end up going over. For instance if I know there is going to be dessert there, I will pick "cheesecake" and then 1/2 serving as I know I will be getting a 1/2 serving of some kind of dessert. For appetizers I use the Mini Appetizer Rolls from Market Place (2 pieces). That way I know I can eat 2 pieces of some kind of mini appetizers. I know these calorie counts aren't exactly correct but they wouldn't be even if I entered something else because I wouldn't know exactly how everything was prepared but it gives me an idea and I have been successful doing this the last two months. Thanks for the recipe.

cbabie great job on tracking now work on staying within those calorie counts. PRE-TRACK. You are a rule keeper. The rule is eat what you have already tracked. Your snacks are already planned out so no need to go grabbing stuff because you feel sad. What can you do besides go grab ice cream. That little party in your mouth only lasts for so long and then it's replaced by guilt. Then your fingers swell up and your pants get too tight and then you are disgusted with yourself. Then comes the promise of I'll do better tomorrow. We've all been there. So stick to your rule. Why do you grab ice cream instead of a beer when you are sad? Cauliflower. So many things to make with it. You can even use your new food processor. I think the best thing I made was the soft tacos. it's cheaper than meat so you save money. Double win. I've also made tater tots. I've seen recipes for grilled cheese sandwiches. Mac and cheese. So many things to do with cauliflower. So many health benefits to cauliflower. I "rice" mine in my food processor and then bag it up in 2 cup portions and freeze it. That way it's handy to use.

Hi all. I can't believe how much "healthy" food can be at the grocery store sometimes. Yesterday, I spent $190 for one week for 2 people. Ridiculous. It's usually not so much, usually, I spend about $120-140 a week. I do the best I can, I buy most of my produce from a produce store that is cheaper than anywhere else. I buy the rest of the groceries at Walmart, which is the cheapest place to get them. Wow. I'm floored. Anyway, my day was okay, our friend came over and he cooked flautas which are like rolled up tacos. We had him bake them rather than fry them (they are usually fried) to make them healthier. He brought chips and salsa and thankfully the salsa was so spicy I didn't want much of it.

@theslightedgeforever thanks for the idea. I'll write down mini appetizer rolls from Market Place for Friday so I can pretrack it for that day (I have another party coming up this week).

trooworld I'm afraid with a shortage of workers now picking the produce its only going to get worse. Is there an ALDI there? Friends of mine are finding Walmart is not the cheapest place anymore. Good idea on baking the flautas.

Hi all! Welcome to Monday. I had a pretty good day yesterday as far as getting things done around the house goes: I made a couple of meals for the week. I didn't track yesterday. I didn't eat too crazy, but dinner was one of my 4 allowed "fun" food meals. I still should have tracked, I don't know why I didn't.

@theslightedgeforever the funny thing is the produce is the cheap part for me. It's the meat and the cheese and the canned goods that are expensive. The closest Aldis is like 30 minutes away. Hopefully, they will open one closer and I can try that. Sorry about your gain. Thanks for the highlights, I think that is the same from last week, isn't it?

Hi all! I'm so glad I found you!! I just quit WW too... cost primarily... I had lost 15 lbs in 4 months. I have 6 more to go! Id love to join your thread! Is there an easy way to bookmark this so we can find it easily?

So far, I'm staying on track... I log everything, work out for an hour 6 days a week, and am drinking ~10 glasses of water. I had hit a looonnngg plateau right at the end of my WW time and then just had a whoosh of 1.4 lbs! I tend to get stuck in plateaus but am trying to be patient. Sigh.

    Afternoon all,
I am sorry I have been MIA this weekend. I am still learning to have a routine. I have made a vision board for my weight/health. I am hoping this is what I need to get my control back. I have had heartburn the last couple of days and I know it's just my pour eating habits. I have to do what my head knows to do.LOL

@trooworld, I am so glad you made good choirces. Our many years of training comes back natural.LOL We don't have Aldi here, but we have Winco and that is where I now go. That and Sam's club. I only buy meat and bulk that I need at Sams'. Everything else at Winco.

@achagpar Welcome!! I am glad you found us too? There are more that visit, but not everyday. I want to be here everyday as I get great encouragment and good ideas. You can hit the "star" at the top of the page and it bookmards this thread for you. Then just hit the star and it will bring you right back here. Good for you for continuing to track, that is one thing that helped me with my success at WW and if I do it (been my problem lately) I will maintain my good health. I am looking forward to haveing you in this board.

@theslightedgeforever Sorry about the gain, I too had a gain and I wasn't doing what I should so that is why the gain..but I have my vision board do it's before me and not hid.

trooworld yaaay on precooking some meals for the week. Meat and good cheese is expensive. Anyway to cut down on the canned foods or other packaged foods? Sometimes we pay extra for 'their' preparation. The highlights are different. Last week was Stand up to Stigma dated 8/12. This is the one she has dated 8/19.

@agachpar Welcome to the group. How exciting to be so close to goal. I love the whooshes.

cbabie Good for you for making a vision board. My gain. I had one day over calories, that was it. I had two days less cardio and no strength training since I was on my exercise hiatus. Slightly less water. So when you add all those up.......I had given myself a 1/2 lb gain allowance for my break but seemed to have went over by 1 lb. But I'm back in my routine til October 16 when my next break occurs. Overall I still lost 10.5 lbs from end of June so I'm happy with that and will start again on this next round. Lots of NSVs occurred. I'm looking at the positive. It's just a setback and gives me a starting point.

Did anyone else have eclipse mania like I did? I watched it on NASA public TV. I'm like a child watching it. I made a date with an old friend for 2024. There's supposed to be another one coming and we agreed to go back to the college football field and watch it together. NASA set up a sight at the campus. It was nice to watch it on TV and look at the stadium. I even did a cheer. (told you I was a kid) It's one of the few cities that will have a full eclipse both this year and that year. I will be 60. Hopefully we'll both still be alive. lol She said we will be thinner by then so better mobility to walk around and enjoy it. That's what I'm counting on.

Hi all! I hope you all got to see the eclipse, I did (see my response to @theslightedgeforever ). Not much to report here, I was over on my cals and carbs yesterday but that isn't surprising: yesterday was one of my 4 fun meals (that's 3 of 4 for the week). I don't think I will have any more fun meals this week. The week starts over on Friday, which is good because I have that party on Friday.

@achagpar welcome! I quit WW primarily because of the cost too. Congrats on your success! Sounds like you have a good plan. Stop back by--- often! :)

@cbabie when I get bad heartburn, I know it's time to change what I'm eating. My body is trying to tell me something! That is great that you made a vision board. I have one too, I think I told you all about my digital vision board on Pinterest? I used to go to Sam's Club but my membership ran out and I found that Walmart's prices were the same as Sam's Club, so I didn't renew.

@theslightedgeforever we don't actually buy that much canned/packaged foods...just things liked chicken broth, tomato sauce, black olives etc. not stuff you can make yourself (although I could make chicken broth if I had the time). Oh I'm glad you pointed out that it is different, I thought it was the same topic. I don't watch the highlights on this computer (it has no sound), I watch it on my tv or my phone, I just quickly hit play and noticed she seemed to be holding the same booklet. I had eclipse mania to a lesser degree: as you may know, I work at a library (a corporate library), and believe it or not, we got 3 calls yesterday morning asking if we had eclipse glasses! lol (we did not have them) I was on the reference desk at about the time the eclipse happened, but a colleague covered for me so I could go outside and share a pair of glasses with my supervisor. I got to see it. But from the west coast (CA), it wasn't that impressive. Still cool, but not that good. I hope the next one will be a better view.

    Morning:

I tracked, exercised and stayed within all my goals. Today I am not feeling so energetic, waiting on my school to process my stuff I sent in, so I could be cleaning, I could be reading, I could be creative, I could be applying for jobs...today I just feel blah. Want to sleep, but I only had 3 hours sleep last night so that could explain it.

@trooworld I am so glad you got to go outside and see it..I will have to check out walmart. I really just hate going to walmart..ours seems so dirty I guess. There are a couple, so I will have to check it out. Thanks for the tip.

trooworld The WW book she was holding up had the same colors I thought. That's probably why it confused you. Do you go over cals and carbs everytime on the days you have fun meals? Or was this isolated? Because if so, that would be 4 out of 7 days that you go over calories and that makes it harder to lose weight. On the days that you have your fun meals, could you work around your other meal's calories so you aren't going over? I heard the 2024 eclipse will be from TX to Maine.

cbabie Sounds like you had a great day. So go sleep so you can do it again tomorrow. Check out the WalMart in Happy Valley.

Hi all! Had a great day yesterday. Ate my 1200 cal, got in a 60 min Zumba class (and didn't eat back all of my exercise cal), tracked every morsel, and got in my 8 glasses of water... We'll see if the scale rewards me for the effort! Oh, and a small NSV: I have a suit that I love that I wore to an event that was being videotaped earlier this year. When I saw the tape, I was mortified. It looked awful -- that's what gave me the swift kick in the pants to get back in charge of my life and started my weight loss journey this time (hopefully for the last time!). While I'm not at goal yet, I wore that suit again yesterday and got a ton of compliments! I felt better in it too with room to move... So here's to us and getting to where we want to be -- in mind, body and spirit! Hope everyone has a great day today!

    Morning!

Well, I tracked, exercised, and stayed OP. Right now I am focusing on calories, Once I get back to my tracking habits, I will concentrate on the protein and carbs. Still working on getting my weights routine back as well. One thing at a time..habit is 21 days.

@achagpar Great job at not eating back the calories! I have never done Zumba and most likely won't. Glad you enjoy it!. Yes I think we all have ONE picture, that just said it all. LOL

@theslightedgeforever Great job on the water, I got all of mine in too! But sitting in a hot car sweating, waitin on my granddaughter (interviewing) I think I sweat it all out. Going to another interview today...wearing shorts today!!

@trooworld Hope your day yesterday went as planned!!

Hi all. I have to have a gallbladder ultrasound today so I've had no coffee and am grumpy so I'm going to make this short. Happy Weds!

@cbabie you should get some more sleep...sleep is so important for so many reasons, including weight loss. But it affects mood too. I'm glad I got to go outside to see the eclipse too. Yeah, I know what you mean about Walmart, I insist on going before 10am to beat the crowds and it is still dirty but at least it isn't as busy.

@theslightedgeforever when I have my fun meals, I don't worry about the cals or carbs, so I can or cannot go over them. I usually do go over them though. Not 4 out of 7 days, 4 MEALS, not days. I'm doing this per my coach...it's part of my plan. I eat clean 80% of the time, 20% of the time I eat fun foods. Yeah that would be a problem if it were days! :)

@achagpar it does sound like you had a great day! Congrats on the NSV.

achagpar Sometimes the scale doesn't reward your efforts. Too many uncontrollable variables. That's why you need to do it yourself. Your success lies within your consistent actions not the number on the scale. Cheer yourself for making a plan and sticking to it today. Woohoo. (that was my cheer for you) Especially the NSV. Look at the difference in how you feel.

cbabie I found for me habit was a lot longer than 21 days. lol I'd be going good for a couple of months and BAM! back to where I started. What I have found this time around is to change my environment to make it easier for me to continue the habits. Food tracking and pretracking/planning meals have been combined into one thing. Whatever I ate last week on Thursday is what I'm eating this week on Thursday. With MFP, I just have to copy to the new date. Then I just mix it up for dinner. I can go back to other Thursdays and choose one of those meals or try a new recipe. It beats me sitting there thinking what am I going to eat or what am I going to cook. I have a hard time making decisions so in the past sometimes it was easier to just do nothing. I would grab whatever or we would eat out or order take out. That kept me fat. I spent the last 8 weeks focusing on my calories. I was successful on that. This next 8 weeks I'm also focusing on my carbs which makes meal planning a bit trickier. I just had to rework my plan for tomorrow because I would have been 9 carbs over. So now my banana pudding won't have a graham cracker in it. lol I'm using a Sugar Free ready to eat vanilla pudding cup and cutting up a banana to go in it.

trooworld I hope the gallbladder ultrasound goes well. I had mine out 3 years ago. I don't know that I would have made the same decision. Still have digestive issues. Well, I hope your plan works for you. If you see you aren't losing weight consistently then maybe taper down to 3. Your coach will help you with that.

Hi all! I'm taking my hubby to the doctor today about his knee, so I'm lazily getting ready for work. Yesterday wasn't a very good day, we ordered out Mediterranean food for dinner. I got a vegetarian plate, which had falafel, babaganough, hummus, pita, and tabbouleh. I don't like tabbouleh so I didn't eat that but I ate everything else. I also had a small piece of baklava. That's 4 out of 4 fun food meals (or 5 out of 4 if I've miscounted somehow!). For lunch yesterday, I barely ate my lunch because I didn't like it, so maybe that will make up for it.

@theslightedgeforever thanks. I already got the results from the gallbladder ultrasound- it came back normal, so that was good. I think if I'm not losing weight consistently it's because of what I'm eating the other 59 meals for the week. They need to be as healthy as possible. If they are "sort of fun meals," that's not going to cut it.

    Morning;

I am not feeling well today, not sure I will get my exercise in...I need to..but. I think I got over heated yesterday. I sat in my car for almost 4 hours waiting on someone, face red, clothes soaked, I even got a sunburn on my legs. LOL. I kept watching my heart rate, and didn't get much sleep last night...I woke up with a migraine..It's starting to subside, hence I am writing on the board. I did track and exercise yesterday. I stayed withn my goals too.

@trooworld You like me will find your place that you know what to do and how to do it. You have it in you! I know you will have less almost fun meals as you keep going. :)

@achagpar great job!! whew on the loss. I am hoping to see one this week, but we will see.

achagpar Doing the happy dance for you. A little bit closer to goal.

trooworld Your Mediterranean meal sounded good. I don't like tabouleh either. I'm learning to like babaganough. Trying new things. Great news on the ultrasound. One less thing for you to worry about. Have you checked your uric acid levels? They thought my mil had gallbladder issues and it turned out to be high uric acid. So we have to check again in September (after two months). I have two days a week where I raise my calories so I can include some fun foods. Then I reduce my calories a bit on the other 5 days. It all balances out at the end of the week.

cbabie Why didn't you go do something for those 4 hours? Then when that person was done they could have called you on the phone and then you could have went and picked them up. Of course my choice would have been a nice cafe so I could have some tea and I would have brought my Kindle along. Win-win for all. But here are some ideas for you for next time you get stuck in that same situation. Sorry about the migraine. You certainly don't want a repeat of that. You could have found a closeby "mall" or shopping center and walked around getting in some exercise. Hospitals are nice for that sort of thing too. You have the advantage of stair climbing or walking the halls. You could go to a coffee shop and worked on your school work or other reading. You could sit in the lobby of a hotel nearby and do the same thing. The important thing is that you get out of the heat. My grandmother died of a heat stroke.

Well today has been icky per say...lots of high strung emotions...but so far not overeating. I did walk today to get some of the stress off.

@theslightedgeforever Great job on staying the course. What grandmother died of a heat stroke? I could have walked around, but we were down by the airport, no places down there..and I was not going to pay parking for 4 hours...no job no money. I survived, so we are good.

Hi all! Well, I woke up with a heck of a headache myself. I hope it goes away. I'm glad it's the weekend, it's been a rough week for many reasons. Work, mainly, it was really busy and a tough week and I felt inferior all week. I work with a lot of very smart people, a few are much smarter than me and it can make me feel really stupid sometimes...I'm still learning about our industry and the subject that we study (gemology) and when I get a tough reference question, I can feel intimidated and over my head very quickly. That happened this week. I asked for help, and that made me feel even worse because it kind of pointed out my weak areas and made it apparent my lack of knowledge. Oh well, it's over now I can move on!!!

@cbabie I'm sorry you had that experience, that sounds terrible. That would have given me a migraine, too. Thank you for your kind words, I do hope I find my way. Thanks re: hubby...see the comment to @theslightedgeforever below.

@theslightedgeforever it's funny you mention the uric acid levels--- my husband just had to get his checked because the doctor suspects he has gout in his knee (that's why we went to the doctor) and that is related to uric acid levels. No, I haven't checked my uric acid levels lately.

cbabie Granny. She was out working in her garden and didn't wear her sun bonnet like she usually did. She got overheated and got put in the hospital. When she was released her health took a nosedive quickly, mentally and physically. She was fine before the day in the garden. There's always hotels near international airports. Go sit in the lobbies and parking is usually free. But you may not survive next time or maybe you will but just be impaired. Can you hear your mother saying A word to the wise....." :)

trooworld They are not smarter, just more experienced. Continue learning all you can about your industry and your knowledge will grow. You asking those questions is how you grow. Along with reading articles, journals, etc. Sounds like a very interesting field. You got this. I always thought gout was just a joint related thing but my mil pain is upper right quadrant and radiates to the side. Of course could be this doc has no idea what he's talking about. lol But she was high and we've had her on a special diet. He wanted to go NO meat, fish, poultry but I refused. She has to eat something. She's diabetic and I can't give her a bunch of carbs. So I told him I would give her chicken once a day. Then we already give her lowfat diary. But I switched to skim on everything. She seems fine now. But still have to go back in for a recheck.

    Daily report:

Yesterday: food check exercise 18 min walking water 6 glasses
Today: food check exercise none water 5 glasses

    Hi all...

I'm a long time WW-er who has used MFP to maintain in between bouts. I've lost 90 lbs overall since I was 18 many moons ago. I was close to 100 lbs lost but then 2 years ago my dad had to have emergency open heart surgery, then after he recovered my grandma started to decline and ended up passing last May. Life has been in flux and now I'm higher than I have been in years. Currently paying for WW but SMART POINTS DOES NOT WORK FOR ME. The people from WW think I'm crazy but I swear to you it doesn't work for my body. I have done this, I know the ropes...smart points is not for me. I need help from another avenue so I'm trying MFP to actually lose weight. Anyone else have thoughts on smart points etc?

Hi all! Well, I forgot to weigh in on Friday morning so I weighed in on Saturday morning after the party Friday night and I gained almost 2 lbs. :( I don't want to talk about it, that's all I'm going to say about it.

@theslightedgeforever turns out this doc didn't know lol...he called my hubby yesterday and said that the xray showed arthritis and calcium deposits. He said there isn't much that can be done about it until it gets worse?

@farmgirlco welcome! I've heard that different WW programs work for different people from people in WW facebook groups...I haven't had that experience myself but I've heard it. I think there might be an app that lets you use the old system. It's not from WW though, it's from some company, it's called iTrackBites:
https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.ellisapps.itrackbitesplus It costs $2.99 one time. I can't say I've tried it, but some people from Facebook groups have used it. It lets you track "Smart, Plus, Classic and Calories". So, that's an option if you do want to do it WW-style.
