That's why I bring my Kettlebell wherever I go. I am trying to think about how I am going to get it on the train! Enjoy yourself! CICO really does work.
Mary from Minnesota
Yes, I'll for sure keep track of my food. I'm taking a couple of weights and my 25# kettlebell. Also, because the dogs won't get to run around in the yard, they will need a lot of walking.

Lenora, there are many churches that are held online. Like my daughter's church can be watched anywhere in the world that allows it. And it is live. So a person can still 'go' to church but stay in their PJs. Maybe that could be an option for your husband. I don't know of any catholic churches but this particular is nondenominational.
My sister had one of the 'mole' pregnancies. There is no way to tell a woman she is not pregnant or to help her in her grief. You just have to eventually move on. It was really heard on her and my brother. I became pregnant with Michelle and I didn't have the heart to tell her. But the my Dad had open heart surgery and they were going to be here so I had to tell her since I was really pregnant by that time.
Ha any one used Icy Hot or Lidocaine patches for pain. Last night was really bad as far as my bursitis in my legs. Anyway you lay in bed hurts in both legs. So I slept pretty bad. It was really a let down for as good as I felt yesterday. I think I was on an emotional high yesterday that kept me going. But I did to much by going to choir practice. It wore my out

Hello all: I had my last PT session today. I will miss that drive and chatting with Lisa, but it is also good to be done. I will keep up the exercises. The YM has a Yoqua class starting with the new fall schedule. That intrigues me and I think I will try it out. DH went by himself today to buy groceries. I wonder what the damage will be. I know he did not buy any lettuce. Going to make a dish using some of our home grown green beans.
Melanie - Glad you are able to get back in your house. Hope the clean-up goes well.
Miriam - The girls are looking good.
Jane - Hope your surgery goes well, be sure you do the PT. It will make a difference in the recovery.
Mary - My DH just recently went from Everett, WA to St. Paul and returned by train. He did not use a roomette. He enjoyed the trip. They had someone giving talks about the scenery they traveled through. You are right though about the western trip. It is always late due to Amtrack not owning the tracks and having to give the oil trains right of way. Also pack some snacks as they are known to run out of food in the dining car. Hope you have a wonderful trip.
Janetr - Congrats on that doctor's visit.
Becca - So glad you are getting a new computer and we will see you again more often.
Everyone take care, Sue in WA1 -
Joyce, Is there a specific reason you don't want to use tylenol? I never thought it worked for me, and I prefer naproxen sodium, which works fast and only needs to be taken twice a day. But when I had my hip replaced and wanted to minimize my use of the narcotic I found that if I took the tylenol every 8 hours without fail, it worked. If I missed a dose, it took a day or so to reduce my pain.
Janet, Awesome medical check up. Congratulations! I love the image of you doing Kettlebell swings outside!
It's so humid outside that our windows at the back of the house are fogged up. What a drag!!
Today I didn't work out, and I'm glad. I've been doing 1-2 hours everyday for weeks, and even though I mix up the exercises I think I was tired and needed a break.
...I just wrote a long, whiny paragraph about getting my heart rate up. At the end I looked at it, thought, "What are you complaining about? You've got lots of blessings and things to be grateful for, and this is such a minor issue" So I erased it...
Heather, I'll definitely check out that website! Thanks for the tip.
Mary, Truly impressed by your weight on the goblet squats!! You go, girl!!!!
I'm excited about this weekend. Tomorrow's my actual birthday, I'll be 57.

Thanks, Sue

Lenora: Thanks for telling me about renting your machine. I called the sleep centre and they agreed to rent it to me and then apply the rental against the purchase price.
Jessica: I wasn't aware that it could be a long process to know if the c-pap is helping or not. But as I can now rent for a while without buying it takes some of the stress of having to make a decision today. Spending that amount of money is always stressful to me.
Barbie: Yes, Dad has gone to his regular Dr as well and he's ordered some extra tests and given him strong pain killers to ease the pain. Unfortunately, he took the first one ok but the second time he took one he couldn't breathe all night.
Katla: So sorry your hubby isn't able to enjoy the boat anymore. I really love the Tibetan proverb.
Janetr: Congrats on the excellent doctor visit!
Later friends,

karen E - Thanks! I just bought my next set of three Kettlebells because my goal is to be able to swing 50 lbs by the end of 31 weeks!

Hello, Welcoming Women!
Another day, another 29.5 cents… Nothing exciting going on – YAY!
Someone asked me, can’t recall who, what type of yogurt I eat… it’s Dannon, Light and Fit Greek. 80 protein packed delicious calories… and only 8 or 9 grams of carbohydrate – depending on the flavor. Some are “fruit on the bottom” and some are blended – but all are nice. Very satisfying. I haven’t found one that I didn’t like, yet… and I am particularly fond of Toasted Coconut Vanilla and Strawberry Cheesecake… At least today!
&&&&&&&&&&&
Michele - *arrrrgh* Oh well. Maybe Bowling Boy will behave. LOL – I never have to work too hard to convince DH that eating out is the answer... he loves to go to restaurants.
Mary – I was born in Carmel, California – and raised up and down the coast. I moved to Oregon when I was 12… but we drove the coastal highway many times. It’s gorgeous, and there are hundreds of little places to explore along the way. I know you will love it. I only moved to TX 15 years ago… which means I am not “officially” a Texan, yet. I have another 35 years to go… Oh, and I don’t think you will have ROOM to swing the kettle bell on the train… A friend took a train trip recently, and he whined considerably about how tiny the room was – and he got the “big” one… of course, if anyone can figure out how to make it work… Our Kettle Bell Goddess will do it!
Elizabeth – I thought maybe you had just changed your profile pic and that it was you… You did recently put up a new profile picture, right?
Pip –
Katla – ((Hugs!)) Small manageable tasks… One step at a time, One day at a time. We are all rooting for you… I expect you will “Woman Up” with the best of them. **And maybe, just maybe, DH can take a motion sickness med when you go out on the boat? I am sure the Doc will know.
Lenora – I had the long hair parted in the middle in the early 70’s – didn’t move to Farrah hair until much later… lol. I must say, I have made a lot of forays into the Thesaurus sites to keep coming up with new things to greet everyone with… LOL.
Chris – ((Hugs!)) Wish I could wave a magic wand and have a fabulous job fall into your lap! And hey, why not a fabulous man, too? I hope you have a better day…
Rori – So… you are going to Oahu… are you moving there? I may have missed something. Good luck on the condo sale!
Joyce – It’s going to take a minute for you to be back to 100%, Hon. Your body has experienced some trauma… and no matter what your head says, your body is going to do what it needs to do. And that holding the note thing – you are going to have to work back up to that… you have to work that diaphragm, or it gets floppy, like any other muscle. So sorry you can’t take the pain meds with the blood thinners… DH was on them for a couple of years and it was a lot of work... regular checks on the level of thinning and all that. (Hugs!)
Karen/VA – Shake those Pom Pom’s Sister! And yeah, I had done the math on the probability, too… but, three posts down – poof – there was the answer. Our ladies are so SMART!
Margaret – (Heart)
Carey – glad I can make you smile, Sugar. (Hugs!) So sorry for your Dad. Arthritis is bad, bad, stuff. But now that you mention it – you would think he would have had some indication before he was crippled by the pain – so you might want to get a second opinion. I can’t help but recall that the ER at our local hospital sent my DH home with a diagnosis of sinus infection when he was actually suffering the aftermath of a stroke…
Janet – Be glad that hotdogs don’t float your boat… they are one of those things that no doctor would ever recommend… :] And how fun is it to impress your Doctor? Mine was kind of amazed that I had lost weight at all – I guess they all are… Most people just talk about it… they don’t actually do it. Great work!
Gloria/WA – Gee – even I have seen Titanic…And I am usually years behind on movies. Did you like it? I just remember that for months and years after it came out, that stupid song would play a gazillion times on the radio… lol. I mean, yeah, it was a nice song – but do we really need to hear it 85 times a day? Great job on drinking that water!
Dac2000 – Welcome!
Julie/NJ – LOL – MEN! My DH does minimal exercise, has not changed his eating much – and he lost almost as much weight as me in half the time… nope – it just ain’t fair! Of course, he still outweighs me by 100 pounds… and if I have anything to say about it, he will continue to do so until I get to goal!
Heather – The probability that your DGC are adorable is 100%! And nice to find a great recipe that you can use again and again… I am having the Moroccan Chicken Stew tonight… the crock pot is bubbling merrily away at home and DH says the house smells divine.
Miriam - One of the Smartest of the Smart...
Allie – Never hurts to ask. My Mom always says – If you don’t ask, you don’t get. Enjoy the concert!
Jenn – Welcome – and FANTASTIC – it’s time to put yourself first in your life, isn’t it?
Barbie -
Lisa – DH and I keep saying – no matter how much we want to slug out, we get up and go – because it’s easier to keep going, than to start over. We are even talking about finding a gym near my Mom’s house and going while we are on vacation… we just don’t want to lose that momentum that we have built up.
KJ – Cobra will be about three times that – and I am not sure the life insurance would be included… It’s been a long time since I had to use Cobra… sorry. I just remember it was REALLY expensive.
Tracey – HAPPY BIRTHDAY!!! One day a year, you get a pass… don’t sweat it if you go over, today. Enjoy!
Cheri – Excellent advice on breaking down the tasks. So many things seem HUGE when you look at the whole. I am going to have to try your method on some chores at my house. So many chores… so little time… But, perhaps if I can break them down, I can at least make a start.
NYKaren – Debt whittling – Been there, Done that. Retirement? Er… no.
Tracy/FL – Welcome! There is an outline of a star at the top of the conversation on every page… click that and it turns yellow. Then you can find this post easily any time, by clicking on the little black star at the top of every page. 1 lb or 100 lbs to lose, everyone is welcome here. We have folks in all states of being… from actively trying to lose large pounds to those who have lost and are maintaining. All of them are fantastic.
Carol – I LOVE vintage jewelry. I don’t care who you are, those items were gorgeous! And I have never been any kind of a fashion maven – I like what I like and I wear what I like… I don’t CARE what anybody else is doing. I am sure there must be more like me, out there.
Jessica – Ah Romance… we will expect every detail on the whole wedding extravaganza….
Kylia – yep – the posts just keep on rolling along… Don’t sweat it. Just read back a page or two and then move on. Sometimes it’s all you can do. ((Hugs!))
Jane – try logging out and then back in… you probably were just surfing as a “guest.”
SueBDew – Hot is bad… lol. Hope the nutrition perked you up.
Marcelyn – Your weekend sounds like fun… I think every woman should get a break from the DH now and again… Girl Power!
Becca – Ahhhh. Seaside. Many is the time I have eaten prime rib and watched the sun set over the waves… Miss that! (Both the Prime Rib AND the waves… LOL.)
Kay - *waves*
Sue – I loved it last year when I was able to use my own veggies to make the very best spaghetti sauce, ever… lol. This year, I was too crazy busy to get the garden going… so, next year, it’s the Cheri method… today, I will clear 3 feet of earth… lol.
KarenE – HAPPY BIRTHDAY!!
&&&&&&&&&&&&&&
I am off to eat some lovely Moroccan Chicken Stew… and binge-watch Major Crimes…
Hugs for Everyone!!

Re, I'm with you loving the days with nothing exciting going on....no drama is the best....I really admire the way you respond so kindly and humorously to so many.
Janetr. i was able to lose weight while traveling for a whole summer in our RV....it was great to have my own kitchen and prepare my own meals exactly the way I wanted them. I didn't do strength training then, but I sought every opportunity to walk wherever we were.
We have a houseguest and Bernie, the cat, refuses to leave the bedroom when there is someone in the house besides us...so he has spent the day on the far side of our bed or under the bed...he came out last night once our friend was in bed with the door closed. Our friend will be here until tomorrow afternoon.

Re- yes, the roomette is very tiny but very private. I probably will not be swinging my Kettlebell on the train. But, I will be able to do it at the hotel. As well as a lot of walking. Did you have any favorite places to stop along the coast to eat or sleep?
Mary from Minnesota0 -
Rori – So… you are going to Oahu… are you moving there? I may have missed something. Good luck on the condo sale!
Re in TX
We lived in Honolulu in the 80's and 90's until my job brought me to the Mainland. We kept our condo as a rental, half considering we might go back to live there someday. Not happening, and that's okay. Time to pretty up the place and make it a suitable home for another person. We are both ready to 'bless and release' this possession, and move on to other goals.
KarenE: Happy Birthday.
A little embarrassed to admit that after reading about them for years on this post, I finally tried shirataki noodles for the first time tonight. Awesome! Added ground turkey and marinara sauce. Delish, and enough leftovers for a decent lunch. DH had regular pasta. He needs carbs.

Did an hour of an advanced Strength DVD today. The plan for tomorrow is to do some HIIT
Today I am supposed to volunteer at the Green Room and then I'll come home to make the icing for the cake and decorate it. I'll also make the brownies to give to Penn. Tomorrow is "clean the house" day. I learned that when having a social, don't do a big clean, just straighten things up. Do a good clean after the social because people will do things like drop food on the floor.
Made some chocolate bran muffins since that's something I can do while Vince is sleeping. Now I have a load of laundry in the wash and I'll probably be able to get it into the dryer before I go to the Green Room.
After exercising tomorrow I need to stop at Walgreen's. They have Dawn dish detergent on sale and with my coupon I'll get it at a fairly reasonable price. I tend to like Dawn the best for grease cutting. Then I'll stop at Big Lots to see if they have Vince's bread yet and maybe buy some more decaf ice tea (unsweetened). Then home to clean (or I should say straighten up).
Rori - I can't remember the last time I had a hot dog. I'm not tempted, either. Actually, I'm really not tempted by any of their premade food
Joyce - so sorry you're hurting and really can't take anything for it
janetr - we don't have any Cosco's around here, either.
Gloria in WA - I just finished watching "Gone Girl". I think I must have recorded it about a year ago.
dac and jennhosborn - welcome!
Julie - be sure to post your workouts. I'm always on the lookout for something new
Alison - enjoy the concert!
Lenora - one time one of the neighbor's girls set a fire next to our house. Were her parents ever mad! I could almost see the steam coming out of their ears.
Tracey- happy birthday!
Tracy (no "e") - you joined by posting! welcome! How much weight are you looking to lose?
Mary from MN - what is the Paleo flu? That's the first time I've ever heard of it.
You go janetr!
Iced and decorated the cake. I don't know how kids can eat that stuff (Fruit Rollups). Just a mouthful and I spit it out. Made the brownies for Penn, just have to cut them up. We're going to Red Lobster for dinner tonight. I'm really trying to have as few things in my refrigerator/freezer as possible.
Becca - I love your song
I usually go to church every Sat but when I was on the driving restriction I just had Vince take me to church when I needed to be there, like when I lectored or was a Eucharistic Minister. I know that he didn't mind, but he only goes C&E because I ask him to, so I wasn't going to ask him to take me unless I had to be there.
Re - vince very seldom likes to go to a restaurant. And if he does he doesn't like to try new and different ones. Now that's something that I like to do. That's one of the reasons it's good to go to lunch with the Newcomers. Like last month they went to this Greek restaurant. Vince just immediately ignored the invitation but I had him look at the menu. What happened? Not only did we like the lunch but HE suggested to Jess the next time she was here that we go there.

Call me crazy but I love to see other people happy and succeeding .
Good Evening Ladies,
Charleen, I had a call today from a mutual friend of my good friend that passed away recently. We talked about what a negative attitude she always had and how she loved to complain. Bless her heart, she could be a good friend but certainly wasn’t always pleasant to be around. How nice that your friend was always positive and so loved by all.
Katla, so sorry to hear that DH is getting worse. And so sorry to hear that the boat is not likely to be used any more. I know you enjoyed it. I hope when you do decide to sell it the market will be on your side. I’m sure it’s just to expensive to keep if you won’t be using it.
Rori, “thanks”. I hope things go smoothly in selling the condo. I’m sure you have your act together. It’s too bad you had to cut your last trip there short. Try to enjoy where you are while there.
Chris, I think you are doing great and think you are the one setting an example for others. Keep up the good work.
Joyce, that is really nice to be able to send questions to the doctor at any time of the day or night. Are there any other pain meds you can take when it gets real bad? Sometimes my bursitis would keep me awake at night if I couldn’t take something.
Janetr, I’ve never been a huge hot dog fan either. There are just times that one hits the spot. Like at a baseball game. Lol Every once in a while I do want one at Costco but what really tempts me there is a slice of their combo pizza. Yum and talk about calories!!!
Julie, I have noticed about men’s weight and weight loss. I’m the one eating healthy and my DH is losing! Ppffttt it’s just not fair. That’s all I have to say on the subject. Well, for now anyway. Lol
Jenn, welcome. This is a great place for support and information so come often. Please sign each post with the name you want to be called. It makes it easier for us to remember you.
KJ, call an independent insurance agent that handles life and health. They can check with different insurance companies to compare. Good luck.
Tracey, I hope you have a wonderful BD dinner. When you forget your name, after you post you can go to the upper right hand corner of your post and click on the gear and it will give you an opportunity to edit your post. Just FYI
Tracy, welcome. We are happy to have you join us so come right in.
Kylia, I’m glad your roller coaster has slowed down a bit. Hang in there.
Heather, glad you and DH liked the new recipe. That’s always nice to find.
Janetr, great checkup but then I’m not surprised. You are the bomb!!!
Marcelyn, it sounds like a fun girls get-away.
to any Newbies that I missed. Come often and join in the chat. This thing works!! Please sign your post with what you want to be called. It makes it easier for us to respond to you. Also a location is great, be it specific or general. We are happy to have you join us.
Line dancing today was a challenge. Lately, shortly after I start dancing my hips begin to hurt. Today it was especially painful. They don’t bother me any other time so I don’t know what the deal is. I’ve been going long enough that I should be building up all the right muscles. Oh well. I’ll just keep going until it gets so painful that I can’t do it. I do enjoy it and it’s such good exercise. I’m having lunch tomorrow with a new friend so need to pick someplace that has proper food. I missed my nap for line dancing so I’m off to bed. Weird, I had to sign in (again) to be able to post??
Sending love and good thoughts to all of you and I hope you all have a Happy and Healthy Day!
Words I live by:

I have read everyone's posts but too tired to respond today except to Lenora's request for Cucumber Water recipe.
Half gallon container
I cucumber peeled or not then sliced in half longwise and then in 1/2 slices (you can take out seeds if you want)
I med lemon washed and sliced
8 fresh mint leaves
Put the fruit and veggies in the container and cover with water. Let steep for at least 3 hours or overnight. You can refill with water until it loses flavor
I pour it over ice and enjoy!

Michele - the Paleo flu happens when you go low carb high fat Paleo diet. Your body is having a hard time adjusting to going from carb burning to fat burning. Just like having all the flu symptoms and really weak and tired. I didn't do it on purpose we just haven't had company for a while and we normally eat LCHF so my body was missing the sugar and chips I ate with the DGC. I should have eased into the lowering of my carb intake.
Mary from Minnesota1 -
Karen E, I have to use Tylenol because I can't take Aleve until I am off the medicine you have to take for a full year after a stent. Effiant isn't a blood thinner like Coumadin/Warfarin where you have to do the frequent blood testing. I am not sure exactly how it works, it just helps to make sure the stent doesn't get clogged up and adheres to your artery. With the trocanteric bursitis, the main symptom and it is also the symptom that usually diagnosis it is the fact that you can't lay on your side due to the pain in the leg touching the bed. I ahve Lortab prescribed. I am going to try taking 2 tonight. I don't like taking 2 but I don't take any during the day since the side of my leg isn't laying down.
Barbie, our cat Melody will run and hide underneath my bed whenever she senses Charlie is coming through the front door. Now she has chosen Charlie as her human. He is the belly rubber or the person she just wants his hand on her when she is sitting next to him. I am the person she goes to when she wants a lap and she sleeps on my bed. Or maybe she will just start crying and I empty whatever is on my lap for her. But when he comes in that front door, she scatters.
We went to Walmart today. I was so tired from my pitiful nights sleep that I used the scooter again. It made me so mad at myself to do that. I really disappointed myself that I had to use it but I knew if I didn't I would never make it. Of course as slow as Charlie walks now that can tire a person out just trying to walk at his pace. Even at the very slow MPH the Walmart scooter goes, I still have to stop and wait for him. I have told him he really needs to get some physical therapy or go to the Y and see what kind of machines he can use to strengthen his core and legs. He was looking at something on the lowest shelf at Walmart and had to use my scooter and the shelf to be able to stand back up. I do worry about him. He really wants to go back to Disney World but even using a scooter there I still don't see how he could enjoy himself.

Janet: You can do this! You'll be able to maintain your weight in the RV situation if you keep on doing what works. You'll have better control of your food than most travelers because you'll have your kitchen with you. Have fun every day, count your calories & walk your dogs.
Becca: Congratulations on the new computer! I hope you love it. (Mount) Hood to Coast racers go through our town along the way. There is quite a bit of stopping at local grocery stores but there has never been a huge group all at once. I'd be planning to keep a low profile if this was their final destination and they would all be here at once. As it is, we have not seen a really huge crowd in one place.
Barbie: I join you and Re with a heartfelt appreciation for days without too much excitement or drama. :flowerforyou:
Mary: The Oregon coast has many wonderful sandy beaches. Stop at Cannon Beach and eat at Mo's on your way south if you can. The views are spectacular. Newport has a funky old town next to the bay that has good restaurants and shops filled with souvenirs. They also usually have barking sea lions & cute harbor seals. The further south you go, the less traffic you'll have to deal with, and there are lots of great little towns and state parks where you can stop and enjoy the views.
Rori: Good luck with the sale of your place in Hawaii. I hope you get some time to play along with your work to get it ready for sale. :flowerforyou:
Michele: I'm pleased that Vince liked the Greek restaurant.
DJ: Our boat was paid for long ago, and the slip fees are reasonable. It can float there and look pretty.
Gloria: Your cucumber water sounds refreshing. :drinker:
Yoga tomorrow! Yay!!! I had to miss it yesterday because of DH's doctor's appointment. I'll try to find additional ways to have fun after yoga. I've been working kettle bell swings into my routine at the gym. I feel like my "frozen shoulder" is thawing. It is less painful that it was before but there is still room for improvement.

Katla - thanks for the information! I saved it so I can show it to my DH and make travel plans! I'm getting really excited about this trip. My DH isn't very happy about me wanting to bring my Kettlebell though. He is a "gentleman" and insists on carrying it for me when we travel around here, even though I can do it. He's not too keen on carting it on the train though! I used to have a really bad neck and shoulder area but it only acts up if I don't exercise. The Kettlebell loosens up everything. I'm glad your shoulder is better.

KarenE - lol thanks, that's quite a mental image for me too. I think I'll being doing them in the motor home with the blinds closed
Carey – thank you so much. I hope renting the CPAP will help you either see definitive improvement in a reasonable time or be able to decide that its really not helping.
Barbie – I appreciate the encouragement. Just yesterday Jack's youngest son (the one who will be staying at our house) said how are you going to stay on your “diet” when you are in the motor home. I told him we have everything I need to cook and eat just like I do here at home.
Re – it's nice when we get reinforcement from outside sources. You're doing terrific.
Michele – Thank you, I'm just hanging in. Don't feel as if I'm making progress now but at least I'm not sliding back into the big black hole. The other day my neighbor had to walk for six minutes at the doctor's office as they wanted to check her heart rate and oxygen level after some exertion. She said who walks for six minutes, no one! And I was so surprised and thot of course most people can walk for six minutes. I told Jack after they went home you know what, I got thinking about it and I could only walk for 5 minutes on the treadmill a few years ago when I fist got the treadmill. I'm just thankful I'm where I am now and counting my blessings. I will never be thin in this life time, but am happy to say I can walk on the treadmill now, small things
DJ (Janet #1) – I've never really eaten much at Sm’s, where we go as we have no Costco, but Jack loves to have a hot dog there. So several months after my surgery and I still was not able to eat much, and I had not had any pizza for probably a year or so, Jack wanted to stop and have a hot dog so I said I'm going to have a piece of pizza because I can just get one slice. I sat down at a table and when he walked up with the plate of pizza I know my jaw dropped and he laughed, it covered the entire plate. I ate two bites and then picked off a couple pieces of peperoni and had to stop but it was THE BEST pizza I had ever had lol
Thank you, I don't think I'm the “bomb” I am surprised every day when I get done working out and think wow, this is me doing that. It's a whole new lease on life and I plan to make the very best of it.
Pip – thank you
Gloria – I used to make the cucumber/lemon water every night and take to work with me the next day. It's great. I ought to start doing it again. Mine also called for grated fresh ginger.
Katla – thank you so much for the encouragement, I keep telling myself I can do it. I can for sure control the cooking and food intake. I'm a bit more concerned about the exercise, but I'll just have to do it and the dogs will make sure I stick to it Glad to hear that your shoulder seems to be making improvement.
Our trip has been delayed from the 5th to the 9th of Sept., hopefully. Jack has to go to yet another surgeon regarding his left knee. They have done a total knee replacement twice (only two years apart) and now they think the tendons are shot and not holding the new knee tight enough and letting it move around too much. He said he's going to tell them he won't be having the surgery until we return from AZ the first part of March. We'll be spending January and February in AZ.
Love you dear friends,

Thank you to everyone who liked my funny story about airport security or the garden picture or both.
While I made it here safe and sound, my luggage took a detour to Paris. It is my favorite city in Europe, but not anywhere near where I am. Has anyone heard of Air Chance? Rhymes with Air ----. The onboard service is spectaular. However, the airline never seems to get my luggage arriving at the same time as me. One time, when luggage did not make it onto the plane, I was told that it would have to be "FedExed" to me.
I am doing my best to read all the posts I have missed from July. I am up to page 12.
Lenore- almost all the international, domestic or regional flight carriers overseas weigh carryon baggage as well as checked bagage. So the carryon may very well end up being checked in. Sometimes the ticket agent may allow the carryon bag but it won't fit in the particular plane's overhead bin and the gate agent will require the bag to be gate checked. If there is an equipment change, nothing but a tote bag sized carryon may be permitted and everyone has to relinquish carryon luggage at the gate or right next to the plane when getting on the steps when ground boarding. You usually get it back when you exit the plane (think of the parents waiting for strollers right outside of the plane exit door or in the gangway). Most US "express" flights or regional carriers use very small planes with no large storage. My rule- Always pack for the connecting flight equipment, not the long-haul plane and always check the carrier's luggage requirements. They are not all the same.
Someone asked who had traveled to sunflower fields- that would be me. My favorite flower, as you can probably guess from the picture of my garden. They grow very well in the Balkans and the seeds are eaten plain raw or roasted, slated or unsalted. The oil is extracted as an all purpose cooking oil. Sunflowers are my favorite flower. Such happy, cheery faces. Since the plants are so big and tall, I am leaving the seeds for the birds; the birds and squirrels beat me to them anyway.
Pip- I am not sure where to start the congratulations on the riding fundraiser. You and Kirby have achieved so much this year. And now you want to 2 marathons and the MS challenge/ Wow. Impressive. When do you have time to work?
Katla -It is so freeing that Jake is cleared to drive. so sad about your DH's new health situation and the boat. Is there anyway to have someone else drive/sail it for you? I will keep my fingers crossed for DD's successful pregnancy.
Joyce- the stent seems to be so successful. I hope you are singing with full vigor, soon. Congratulations to your husband- although the credit for his improved health is all due to your ministrations. Take it easy. We don't want you in the next bed. You have had enough stress for the entire bunch of us.
Becca- such a nice profile picture. I am happy that your husband is improving. You, too, deserve all the credit.
Michele- you can drive. FREEDOM!!!! Congratulations. What ceramics will join the brood at the pool?
Miriam- your cats and catnip photo was hysterical. Your daughters are a riot. Would a rolling backpack help your oldest daughter?
Melanie- It is heartbreaking to know that the people of Baton Rouge are just finally getting back to normal after Katrina and now this happens.
Vicki and Karen- so great that you both share memories of the same people.
Lilian- folks who serve people with special needs are doing God's work. Check your back for the wings.
Charleen-- Champion Quilter. Mariner compass quilts are so intricate and require exacting piecing. Your champion quilt is the most intricate one I have ever seen what with the curlicues interlaced with the compass/star. It must have been horrendously difficult to do. It could be a national champion.
Re Your new profile picture is outstanding. What a change. I followed your posts about diets with some interest. Nope, you are not ranting. It can all be so confusing, but as everyone concluded- CICO and eat what works best for you.
Who posted the picture of the baby quilt made of overlapping shells? Just beautiful. I would love to have the pattern source.
Mary 1,000 mile challenge is going to be hard with a hurt toe. Frying pan? Ouch. It looks like you have started a trend- kettlebells. and it was not the reason for your niece's miscarriage.
Susie 8,000 miles from your husband. Just know that you can turn to the wonderful gals on this site for support, encouragement, love, and DJ's punch in the posterior, when needed. I would love to hear more about your impressions of Abu Dhabi.
Beth and Karen in NY The best of luck as you send your children off to college. I imagine the house will seem very quiet. I often wonder how the university experience has changed for kids with the advent of cell phones, text messages, and email. I remember when phones in rooms sere installed in my graduate school dorm. Before that, we would be buzzed by the switchboard operator to answer the phone in the hall if we received a call and parents used to complain that they never received a letter. We never heard from them by phone unless there was an emergency because long distance was so expensive.
LarisaSonya is so pretty. You make a lovely team. You are inspiring to us on the chat as well as the gym.
Carrie in SC Ethiopia? What is prompting the visit? I am sure there is a fascinating story.
Janetokc Night time eating- I brush my teeth right after dinner so that I won't eat anymore.
Katie I just love fresh figs. I never get them in my part of the country. You mentioned pickled peaches. That sounds great- do you have a recipe to share for them?
Marcelyn I am still working on developing my "no" button. A skill I never mastered.
Lisa I am not sure how journalists have been functioning during the last month with all the plain meanness and hatred being spewed lately. This is one of the reasons stayed off the internet during the last month. I don't know how you do it. Your community relies on you.
Jane I hope the second surgery does the trick. Any operation is hard, but two in the same place has to be even harder.
Cheri A new home, a new university, a completely different location and downsizing all while continuing to turn out magnificent crochet work. You are impressive!
There has been some discussion of dairy. Do check the tiny fine print on the yogurt container- even plain, nonfat yogurts have natural sugar from the milk. Look to make sure that there is no added sugar. You might like to try sheep or goat milk yogurt. So incredibly rich and smooth. It can be hard to find except in natural food stores or local producers.
All for now. I am reading the current postings and going back whenever I can to catch up. I promise not to be a stranger too long, although starting today, I will be without reliable internet service and have to find internet cafes.
Do stay the bunch of wonderful flowers you are.
CJ

Good morning!
Just finished my kettlebell swings. 15x10x18
On top of my machines, of course!
I have devised a way of keeping track of how many swings I've done. I tore an A4 piece of paper into 8 and I use 5 to move over one by one after 10 swings to make five in a row. Then I take them all back and put one piece further away to show I have completed 5. Carry on with the second set of 5x10. Add one more to the further away one and start again. St the moment I am doing 15 sets so it works perfectly. Will have to tear up a couple more pieces if I increase sets. Anyway, it certainly helps my addled brain to remember how many I have done.
Mary - I am finding that my hip is a bit less sore now. I hope that continues to be the case. Could just be the weather. I used to have to really grit my teeth as I started out.
Janetr - I'm with you - Is this really me??????????!!!!!!!!!!! Who would have thought it? I couldn't walk 100 yards along the flat without getting out of breath, let alone go up a flight of stairs! My ankles were swollen.
Your blood pressure is terrific! I was delighted to hit 134/80 - the lowest it's been for years. I take Amlodipine 10 mgs, but it lost another 5 points on the lower number from the beetroot capsules I take twice a day.
Barbie - Isn't it great how we think about each other during the day. I am normally someone who doesn't put up with things and always strive my hardest to change situations that I am not entirely happy with, if they are changeable. On the few occasions where I temporarily have no choice, I always think of your saying, which I paraphrase here - "I can put up with anything for a short while that I wouldn't put up with for a lifetime."
That has helped me when I confronted, say, with noise I can do nothing about, or my annoying friend.
Tuna tonight. Fresh. I use a Gordon Ramsey recipe where I dip it in soy sauce, then smear wasabi paste on it, then coat with sesame seeds. A very quick flap in a frying pan (I like it almost raw) and it's done. Going to have it with Chinese style sautéed broccoli with sesame sprinkled on, lots of garlic, spring onions. Noodles for DH.
Lots of love, Heather UK2 -
Re - thanks... my discipline usually slips at some point, but so far in my life, I always get back on the horse. Figuratively speaking. A friend's husband, very experienced horseman, got thrown three weeks ago, Broke 12 ribs, bruised a number of organs quite badly, punctured his lung, fortunately did not fracture his spine, and is under home health care after nearly two weeks in the ICU. They have four young kids, and bless her, that is one exhausted woman, with school starting, etc. Tough lady, though, she'll make it through. Makes me realize how small my problems are.
CJ - Thanks for that comment... small community journalism is quite different than daily papers. If we wander into the negative, there's an immediate reaction from our reading public. They WANT us to be as positive as possible. Only in my opinion column do I try to relate what's happening outside our little 8,000-person city limits, and then, it still has to make sense to my audience--which is more than 70% Hispanic, predominantly Catholic, and with ingrained cultural norms that are not necessarily the ones I grew up with.
However, my struggle for the year is just beginning--my ex-husband burned me OUT on sporting events of any stripe, and our sports reporter, who's also the vice president of one of the local banks, is not the best writer ever. So I have to edit sports. A lot. Like massive rewrites on everything he turns in. The language involved is pretty much part of my cellular makeup, having spent 27 years drowning in it, as well as playing many sports myself, so I'm perfectly capable. I just have to turn off my frontal lobe, and it all comes back.
And....the football team's season opener is this coming Friday night. If you've never read the book or seen the film "Friday Night Lights," it's genuinely the best depiction of the high school football phenomenon in Texas--and particularly West Texas, where I'm living. Many of these people live, eat and breathe football. It's one area where the Hispanic and white cultures mesh seamlessly, and genuinely brings this community together like no other event.
The warehouse went up for sale yesterday--the finances just didn't make sense to keep it open much longer. I'm having one more sale the first week of October, going over to Dallas to pick up stuff from my sis and bring it back, and try to get rid of everything still in the warehouse. Handed it over to a realtor who I know well, and who could sell snow to the Inuit, to coin a phrase.
Speaking of Alaskans, it's time to get the DH's coffee started, sandwich made for his lunch, and then go hit the gym when it opens at 5:30. Yesterday was pure cardio, today is core work (situps, plie's, etc.) and light weights (it's been four months since I've worked out, up 'til yesterday, starting back slow.) I'll do just enough cardio to warm up and cool down. I love cardio. Am trying to learn to love core work and weights. Music helps. A lot.
Love y'all,
Lisa in West Texas0 -
