We rented a house in Birkenhead (Auckland) that was haunted for sure! We were three mates flatting together in varsity, and late at night you could hear the door knob rattle and then something move through the hallway into the kitchen. The worst part is my bed was against the wall that was adjacent to the hallway; I could hear the steps moving from one end to the other.

One time I heard a bump in the night, and then I realized that it's incredibly unlikely that ghosts actually exist, and that almost any explanation is more likely than that there is a spiritual dimension which science can't detect, and that if only 1% of all humans who have ever existed became ghosts there would be 1,000,000,000 ghosts in the world, and that if ghosts can really be fixed to a specific location we wouldn't know anyway, considering that the solar system is currently hurtling through space at about 2,000,000mph.

I was making dinner one evening and my 7 yr old daughter came into kitchen asking me if I was just in the hallway. I told her no [I never left the kitchen] She told me she saw me but it wasn't really me. My face looked different but it was me she said so I reassured her it was nothing and told her sometimes our eyes plays tricks. She took my explanation and left. It freaked me out! One, because since we've moved into that apartment we'd seen shadows and two, because we've always seen them in that hallway. Other little things happened in that apartment. Things falling, footsteps, door handles moving it never really scared me until that evening when my daughter told me she saw "me". I recently moved so I hope whatever that was stayed in that apartment.
So there's my story @GnothiSeauton232 -

I bet you are a blast to watch movies with
Because no one ever joked about anything, right? I bet you're a blast to talk to.1 -
Not really a ghost story, but a strange experience nonetheless.
I was still in high school at the time, and was busing home after an *exceptionally* bad day (funnily enough, I don't remember what made my day so awful, just that it brutally sucked), and I remember sitting on the bus digging my nails into my palm to keep myself from losing it right then and there, when some stranger chatted me up. I don't remember much of what we talked about, just that it cheered me up almost instantly, and right before I got off the bus, he ended the conversation with "stay sweet, bonnie lass!" and winking.
When I got home, took off my winter jacket AND the sweater below that, I saw that my t-shirt (which he couldn't have seen since I had my coat on and always wear t-shirts under sweaters in winter) said "Bonnie Lass" and had a candy (bon-bon) graphic on it. Probably a big coincidence (although the dude didn't sound Scottish), but it just made me go, "huh".6 -

I'm pretty sure joking is frowned upon in the forums. I get chastised for doing it quite often
Well if you're joking about me joking about you joking about me joking, then I give up. Ain't nobody got time for that.1 -

I dunno.... you have over 8000 posts; based on your track record, you might have time for that.7 -

when i was in college i worked overnights at a nursing home. every time someone passed away we would light a candle in their room for 24 hours after their body was removed.
one resident had a roommate, george, who passed away about three weeks prior and he hadn't received a new roommate yet. i went in his room one night to check on him, and the candle that we had already removed weeks ago was back on the night stand...burning. i assumed someone i worked with had put it back and didn't think much of it, so i blew it out and left. when i went back on rounds 2 hours later, the candle was burning again. i went to blow it out and the resident, who i thought was sleeping, yelled out, "no! leave it burning! george (his ex roommate) is getting upset with you." i explained to him how it was a fire hazard to be burning unattended and i needed to blow it out, which i did.
the next night, i was sitting at the nursing station doing some charting when i got called up to help on another floor. when i came back less than 5 min later every single candle we had in the building was sitting on the desk, burning. i was kinda creeped out, but since i had told a couple coworkers about the night before, assumed they were effing with me....until i did rounds. i walked into the room from the night before and the resident opens up his eyes, stares right at me, and says, "George said next time he'll burn the whole place down." as i walked out of the room, i heard george's voice...laughing.
weird things kept happening every night after that.
then, about a week later, the resident fell out of bed and was seriously injured. we went in there to help him and asked what happened and he said, "i told george it was time to leave you guys alone, but he didn't like that so he pushed me."

lucky for me, i was george's favorite so he didn't harm me at all, but one coworker swore up and down that he constantly felt like he was being pushed when he walked down that hallway3 -

George sounds like a real *kitten *.2 -
In the last week my son (3) has said some interesting things. Woke up one day saying "Thank you". Went in "who are you thanking?"
"That guy, he was teaching me games" as he points to the wall behind me.
Then one morning I wake up to hearing him through the monitor saying "How will I save my mommy?"
Yesterday we get home from the grocery and before he walks in the door he says "What's wrong with the engine in your car?" Wtf. Why does a 3 yr old even know that a car has an engine?
These things were slightly unsettling at the time, particularly the first two. When I thought about them all at the same time I figured I better document it somewhere. So if something happens with my engine and I die you can alert the authorities or Ghost Hunters.
how will i save my mommy? what's wrong with the engine in your car?
ummm i'd be at the shop asap lol7 -
Most of the experiences I've had centre around the middle sized bedroom to the back of the house I grew up in.
Exp1 - Age about 10 I'm laid still in bed and suddenly the corner of the blanket just flicks over perfectly at the corner. I don't sense anything
Exp2 - Age about 14 for no reason at all I'm laying in bed and get this strong sense of fear like I'm in the presence of something with ill intentions, next thing the heavy door stop I've been using for years drags away from the door and the door starts to slowly close. I tested every theory the next day but the grinding noise it made against the wood floor I could only replicate If I dragged it my hand.
Exp3 - Age 18 I wake up and there is a figure stood over my bed I could make out a snarling expression.
Exp4 - First house with my long term partner, I frequently see the presence of an elderly lady everytime I do any artwork, crafts or decorate but would quickly disappear. I sensed a shyness and a curiosity. i always wonder if she approved. I couldn't find any information on her at my local history centre.
Exp5 - Back in the bedroom, this time with my partner, I'd not told him these stories. Next morning he says something was stood over him and tried to grab his leg.
it's my younger brother room now, he's 12 (big sibling age gap) he tells me the room makes him uncomfortable.
