Unremarkable run this morning. Hope to get in a few tomorrow and then do my first post marathon long run. I haven't gone over 7ish in almost a month. I'd like to get back to 40-45 miles a week, and since i'm at 26 this week, looks like i'll do a 4 & 10 this weekend to get there. Hope to maintain that base until December and see what the spring calendar looks like for another marathon.
Right there with you. It's been three weeks since my last half and I am just now getting around to having any desire to do a longish run. I am thinking 10 and 5-6 this weekend. It gets kind of comfy here on easy street1 -

Today, I tried running drills after my run for the first time (running high knees, butt kicks, marching kicks, skipping, walking high knees, lateral running (left, right), and backwards). They were pretty fun. I almost forgot how to skip, but it came back quickly and I felt like a kid again. There was way too much jiggle in some places (okay, my butt) and that was uncomfortable (probably for any passersby on the street too lol). I guess I better get serious about dropping weight again. I've been at this for almost two years and believe I have lost interest, but I'm only about 2/3rds of the way to my goal.
1: 3.06 (fast finish) + lower body strength
2: 3.04 (aerobic) + 30 mins spin bike + upper body strength
3. rest
4. 2.76 (speed intervals + drills) + lower body strength
Total: 8.86 / 80 miles
Next Race: Jan 15/17: Ice-breaker 8K3 -
11/3: 2.57 miles - 6x(2 min walking/3 min running)
Total: 2.57 miles
Notes:
First run of the month yesterday, and my first time running outside since I got injured 3 months ago! A few min of walking to warm up and then six repeats of 2 min walking/3 min running. I ran with a metronome set to 88 bpm since the running gait specialist I saw recommended that I increase my cadence by 3-5%. Seems to be working? I haven't had any pain yet so I'll count that as a win! I'm out in Denver visiting my sister so I got some good hill and altitude training in too We went hiking later in the day- it was only 3/4 of a mile to get to the top of the mountain, but a 1200 ft elevation so my legs were burning by the end! I think I'll count that as strength training for the day haha

Word! Playing legos with the kids seems like a better use of time than running 2 hours, but I know it needs to get done or it's pain train time once I decide on a race this spring.3 -

Sometimes the efforts like this don't get enough notice. It isn't long, it isn't all running, but coming back from injury it's HUGE. Way to go @ariceroni7 -
Daily check in - Yesterday I told my coach I'd run 5 days in a row. I was mistaken. It was six days. Granted, the longest run was about 2 miles; but it was still 6 days in a row.
Bearing that in mind, I decided to take today off from running. I feel like I could go out and run between 1 and 2 miles, but I suspect an extra rest day may help me build mileage more than a seventh running day in a row. Tomorrow I'll see the first indications of whether that is true.2 -

Well I've slacked off a bit on this thread and now I'm 200+ posts behind! I've been running though. 5.5 miles Wednesday, 3 miles Thursday and 6.25 miles today. Weather has been great, except for a very rainy Wednesday (of course, the day I picked to go to the Botanic Garden... I still went, it was pretty much just me and my boyfriend there and no one else). I don't mind running in the rain at all. I wonder how I'll do in the snow. Assuming we ever get snow. It's been hanging in the 60s all week with no sign of getting any cooler.
I'm planning a rest day tomorrow, but that may change.

Got a Garmin question. I have the Forerunner 735XT and I've been trying to get a walking app loaded onto it. I've tried downloading two different walking apps and it says it's downloaded, but it's not showing up on my watch. I'm wondering what I'm doing wrong here. I would really like to use the watch to clock my walking as well as running. Any advice?0

Yes!! The weather was gorgeous today. I brought a coat but totally didn't need it. Wish I could have ran today, but I'm stuck on the elliptical for a while.0 -

try hooking the Forerunner up to your computer, opening up Garmin Express and then go to manage apps and see if it's installed?0 -
Got in 3 miles of shakeout runs (both a 1 miler last night, and 2 today) as I'm rested, rearing, and ready to go for tomorrow's Ironman. Small craft warning in effect for the swim, so I'll snag some dramamine before the start. Hoping to hold up for a 3:35 marathon at the end (and roughly a 10:20 finish), but will have to avoid wearing myself out on the bike.

Only ran 2.5miles this morning. Legs felt like lead and I wanted to lie down and take a nap on the sidewalk. I was discouraged. Then I remembered this happens every month. LOL Oh well.

I strongly recommend getting a private lesson rather than group lessons. The amount you learn in a single lesson is well worth the cost - and probably equivalent to four group lessons from your description. I had a couple of lessons from a triathlon trainer, and immediately saw improvement, plus the best way to implement what you learn is to practice by yourself.
As to running, nothing so far for November. I developed shin splints from dancing on a marble floor over the weekend in Barcelona, so am resting, plusi came down with a cold straight after. I'm booked for a 12k race at the weekend, and the tail looks really interesting, but I think I will pass and just try and do my own trail elsewhere without pressure.
Question. I've bought the 80/20 book, and haven't started reading much yet, but how do you guys calculate your zones? I have an HRM but just wondering what people do?

My friend who does Ironman tells me he did one in Florida once when the waves were so high that the swim had more elevation gain than the cycling. If you get those conditions, I hope you survive them well!

I just let my HRM (Garmin) calculate my zones. As long as you have some variation in your data (hard runs, easy runs, runs from hell), it'll be accurate.

Right there with you guys! My marathon was almost a month ago now, so I'd like to increase my weekly mileage a bit. I'm really trying to work on my pace though, so trying not to do too much all at once.

@katharmonic Nothing like some quality time in the wilderness to re-juvenate the mind and soul. Great scenery.
That waterfall looks like one about a 5 hour drive from where I live. Our little waterfall is very unique in that it is undercut by Spring Floods so you can actually walk behind the Falling Water on the Rock Wall allowing you to cross the river without getting your feet wet.1 -

Busy week and I haven't had much of a chance to check in... I did end up going for a run in the heat on the 2nd and another run just as hot today... My weekend will be filled with agility so I am not sure if I will get a run in or not.
I did see the Sports Chiro again and he did the gait analysis - pretty interesting stuff. It is clear my right foot has some serious issues that are not completely surprising. He has some concerns about the way I toe off but hopefully the new orthotics will help. The pronation has not and will not go away but I am definitely trying to overcompensate for it and probably resulting in the Achilles issue. I need to allow my feet to go as they wish without my mind trying to force them into unnatural positions. I forgot however to ask why my toes are falling asleep now on that foot or if/when I can/should try to run back to back days again. In the meantime I will continue to run pretty easy every other day.
I hope to catch up with everyone later in the weekend but in the meantime need to give a shout out to the Skippygirl! @skippygirlsmom please let her know how proud all of us are of her and that she is incredible even if she didn't make State!
