@Ohhim Great job on pacing in the HM! Awesome job coming in 1 minute under your target. I'm 99% sure I'm going to run with the pace group in my upcoming marathon. Hopefully our pacer will have 26 jokes!! Lol!

@katharmonic The same thought popped into my head about A1A! I actually saw Vanilla Ice in concert when I was in high school. He opened for MC Hammer. It was a fun show!! Lol!
@patrikc333 I'm in the Dallas area and marathons here are not cheap. I think I paid close to $100 for the one in Ft Worth and about $85 for the HM in Dallas. Both are huge with around 20K racers in all the various events. Smaller races aren't quite so expensive. The HM trail race I'm doing in CO this summer is less than $50. We don't have to get a health cert here though.1 -

5 out of 15 miles literally in the sheet today, sheep yesterday made a mess on public roads, super frustrating
I'm running Banff in June and I believe the early bird was $150 CAD. Death Race, which I will get my butt into gear and register for when personal things die down, is asking $350 CAD as an individual runner1 -

@MobyCarp Running Cross Country in bad conditions sucks but in semi-decent weather it's magical. Of course 99% of my CC Runs are for personal fun, not training, not racing.
You Asked : What kind of idiot gets up in the middle of the night in Rochester, NY to drive through lake effect snow to the airport, leave his car parked there to accumulate more snow, and fly all the way across the country in order to drive through a Winter Storm Warning to get to an 8K race?
The same kind who gets up at 5:30am to drive 240km ( 150 miles ) one way for a winter HM - aptly called the Chilly Willy facing a brisk temperature today.
We both need one of those "Embrace the Suck" shirts.

@ddmom0811 Great job on the HM. We are very close in pace. My HM today I finished in 02:12:36 (Beat last year by 23 secs), I must have a Metronome in my Pace-Internal Timing as all of my HM's have come in at 2:12:30 to 02:13:04. Of course if you look at the attached Temp jpeg Mother Nature she was a tad chilly today.
@patrikc333 I have had HM cost as much as a Full, all depends on location and popularity. I am glad we don't have to deal with the Medical certificates and Run Cards as that is just extra expense/frustration for little benefit.1 -
@patrikc333 I paid $60 for my marathon last May, but I've seen them up to $150. My $60 marathon was a smaller affair. That doesn't include sheep dung, however.
@louubelle16 sounds like your rough week had a nice finish with your race.
@ddmom0811 stomach problems in the middle of a race does not sound fun, but it sounds like you made the best of it.

I went out for a 10 mile run, which was originally scheduled for 8, but ended up with 12. What started as a good run ended up a phenomenal 12 mile run, including an impromptu 7 mile trail run in the middle.
It was to be an all-pavement run, since I didn't have time to drive to the trail. 3 miles in I had to make a pit stop and made my way to a deer trail I recently discovered, which is on the edge of a large wooded park, the same one I ran 18 miles in yesterday. Today I decided to keep running down the deer trail for as long as it went then come back and finish my planned road run.
The main trails in this half of the park are supposed to be designated for groomed cross country skiing in the winter but when I finally came to one, there were no ski tracks. Hmmm...might as well keep going. I kept going for 7 miles and it turned out to be the best winter trail conditions I've run in (odd because most trails in the area are icy right now), and with no wind, and a clear blue ski it turned out to be one of my best winter trail runs ever. Pure heaven! My road shoes were just fine for the trail.
The best part is it's only 2 miles from my house so now I'll plan on on incorporating it into my weeknight runs as well. I'm pretty excited about getting more trail miles in!
Since these runs are part pavement and part trail, every time I run this route, I'll log it all as trail miles on my goal but will add the road miles to my goal miles, so I don't have to break up my run logs on Strava or Garmin Connect.

As mentioned in my previous post I ran the GP Chilly Willy HM Today.
As if you look at the Weather Gif in my previous post it definitely lived up to its name.
Its a small event with only 178 total participants and 42 in the HM. (196 Last Year)
We had 9 from our little community 1-10km; 8 in HM.
We all came away with Overall Bling or AG Placement Bling; Ladies 10k 1st, HM Ladies 2nd; Mens HM 2nd and 3rd.
The 1st place finishers got $160.00 gift cert, 2nd's $100.00 & 3rd $80.00. ( plus free entry to 2018 )
One of our Ladies it was her first HM so I paced her for the first 3km to ensure she didn't get dragged out by the start surge. At about the 3 km mark we hit the rolling hills ( 50-75ft ) along the riverbank where I told her she was doing really good - just keep holding her pace - reminded her to do a Sing/talking test every once in awhile. I slowly started to pull away.
The event started with a 7km loop heading NW then back S - straight into the Sun. We are far enough North that the sun is still low on the Horizon so there were lots of Blinding moments. We were sheltered from the 3 km/h wind by the Trees until about Km 12 then we came out of the trees for 2 km along a road. 2 long bridges to cross the little creek, one cement with hard packed snow - the other had a Metal deck and on the Ribs between the sections the snow was 1/2" deep on the ribs and crazy slippery. Now when we made the turn to go back on the same road - heading straight into the wind - boy could you ever feel it. My shirts were soaked so they started to Ice up and even freeze to the skin - nasty - Embrace the Suck. It was cold enough that you couldn't open the vent zippers on the coat but warm enough from the Sun and body heat/sweat that you wanted to open them. 5km left and your shirt is frozen to your body, sun is at your back and wind is in your face.
Powered through all the little hills ( little = short but steep ) and up the long gentle hills. Since I live in a Big deep River Valley we run lots of hills so this is where I would catch up to other runners. At the Hill Tops and corners I would look back and could see the lady I paced out doing good. Powered through to the finish and waited 2:30 for her to come in. Our whole crew was standing at the line cheering her in. I was 2nd in my 50-59 AG and came away with an automatic free entry for 2018 and a $50.00 Gift Cert. . Lots of Hot drinks, Soup, Chilli, Buns and Banana's for us to re-fuel/re-hydrate. It's just a nice community feel type event.

I knocked out a pretty quick 10 so I could watch Santa Clarita Diet with my husband before he had to go to bed. I have a lot of cleaning to do once he and DD3 go to bed...I will try not to spend all my cleaning time online drooling over Camelbaks I want for Banff lol

I got excited by the game and still didn't get caught up on everyone...
I did have a good race today. The weather was perfect cool and a bit drizzly towards the end. I had a pretty good steady pace throughout the race and ended up right at an 11 min mile overall even with a bit of walking in mile 12. The course is pretty flat but does go up into the wetlands from the beach, then down and around and goes gradually downhill for about 3 miles. The last 3-4 miles of the race though are back up that gradual downhill... There were tons of walkers - whole groups who started up towards the front corrals along with so many first time racers. I created a lot of dodging and weaving especially when they would decide to just stop with out warning. I did run for quite a bit of the race with 3 girls maybe 13 or 14 who were part of a Kids Run organization. They were so cute and funny and just having so much fun and enjoying being there. I am happy with my time and pace and that I ran the vast majority staying on my pace. Not a PR but close to what I ran last year and this without much training and all the travel in the last few weeks. I don't think I am going to sign up for another race this spring. I am just going to focus on being as good as I can be for SF in July!

The runner pointing up at the sign is from Guatemala - he came to So Cal just for the race. There were ~18,000 runners total (marathon and half) with runners from every state and many countries.

Race swag! I love the shirt even if the sizes were teeny tiny. I am pretty small and I exchanged mine for a large. Everyone was complaining about the sizing. The medals are the race medal and a second one for running both Surf City and San Francisco HMs

Today's notes: 6.16 miles at 9:54 pace. Between fresh snow and super slick spots where the plows had gone by, it was a harder and slower run than I would have liked, but all in all a decent run, and now I get to rest tomorrow!
I was supposed to do strides afterward, but there was 2.5 inches of fresh snow and the plow had gone by, so I did 15 minutes of shoveling instead.
I did do 60% of the IT Band Rehab Routine I was assigned, and I'll do the last 2 exercises at some point today, so I'll have it all in.2 -

Rest day today. And wouldn't you know it, it's the first day in a while that I woke up and my legs were not sore or stiff. Oh well, I am giving them a rest anyway. I'm not sure if I mentioned this earlier, but I landed a spot on a team for the Bourbon Chase In October. It's a 200 mile team relay (Ragnar event) from Louisville to Lexington through a bunch of the Bourbon distilleries. If you have never been there, that countryside is absolutely beautiful and I am super excited. We have out first team meeting this evening to meet each other and work out the details.

Worked out that I needed to average 8km a day for rest of the month to reach my target so set out to do that at lunchtime today. Decided on a tempo run just to test where I was at after not doing much running of late. Went ok, but starting with a hill and no warm up was probably not wise as tired me out quite quickly. Pushed on but my route came up short (7.59km) - thought about a quick hop round the block to make up the metres but as I'm hoping to do 10k tomorrow figured it wouldn't matter too much!

Picked up a new running partner on Sunday. My two boys are (close enough) old enough for a dog so we went to the shelter and I think we found a pretty good one. This is Kree (there is a nerd reference in the name and I will confirm it if guessed correctly) and she is about 9 - 11 months old. We are beginning leash training so any suggestions are appreciated. Really looking forward to the added motivation/help for runs.8 -
