Heather - Thanks for the encouragement and wise words. I am in a new month so I have my special dessert (made with sugar). Today I passed on both pie and oatmeal raisin cookies with ice cream. I am saving it for something spectacular ( I think). In the meantime I think I will bake "Dirt" cookies.
Oh, Heather, how frustrated you must be with the post office. It took long enough for you to get that cheque in the first place.
Lisa - Best of luck in your challenge. Could you sneak some vegetable into your shakes? I hate cilantro and brown beans.
Barbie - My new eating habit is such an issue with Larry's brothers. Healthy eating is not on their radar.
Larry and I are having some discussions as to how he can support me.
Yinka - That scrap book must be fascinating. Such a treasure to have. A few years ago I received a Christmas gift of the book "War Letters". One of my favourites.
drKatiebug - Your grandchildren are adorable,. I love the idea of a book character day.
Mia - Nice photo, beautiful ring and love that both you and the dolphin are smiling.
Marcelyn - Whoa! 12 days overdue! Poor girl. I hope your grandbaby makes an appearance very soon.
Pip - The salt and pepper set is very cute.
Joyce - Happy Birthday to you. Red Lobster is always fun.
Back spasmed throughout the night and most of the morning. I used the heating pad, tens machine and pain meds to get it under control. Jheri came over while I showered. I hated to ask but didn't want to take any chances. I didn't ask Larry because he usually wants me to wait until he is done whichever project he is working on. I felt considerably better so I ventured out to the grocery store and to pay a couple of bills. Jheri drove as I was afraid to.
Les (DBIL) is home from Texas. He called and they came over for tea about 8 p.m. We had quite a good visit. It is looking like he will be down there until about April 15th. He is home until Sunday and is not sure he will be back again until the job is done. It's a long haul for him.
I found a light rye bread that is made without sugar and tastes more like regular bread. I'm going to see if Jheri will make the oat sandwich bread for me again. Larry is talking of buying me a bread machine but I'm not sure I want one.
Good night
-Sharon in Lethbridge.
PS. My Son and family are having a good time in Mexico. Ryan found a special place to remember Steve. I hope it brings him some peace and healing.5 -
Ginger - I too am going to PT for fingers going to sleep and nerves being pinched shoulders/back/neck. Mine is so bad it wakes me up so I never get a good night's sleep.
Lillian - I just did my taxes tonight online and for the first time ever I get the Earned Income Credit. Yay! That money is going into my Disneyland account.
I'm not ready to set my March goals yet because I want to make sure that I set goals that I am actually going to keep not just give it lip service.
Ouy vey I'd better get to bed. Good night my wonderful friends.

Happy March everyone.
Not sure where February went..but was a fast moving month.
Have been skimming the last couple pages.Love the baby pics & good news from a lot of posters.
CHARLEEN,
your
post caused me to tear up.
How wonderful! The elderly often get the short end of the stick & you made a lovely difference.
Thank you.
A local TV station did a short story on elder abuse & it breaks your heart.Don't know how abusers live with their selves. So sad that children/ Grandkids lead the parade to steal elders money/ property.Well....hopefully,what goes around comes around.
Enough of that.
Had a check up last wk & lost 2 pads.I'm surely the slowest loser on here, but just happy it wasn't a 2pd gain.
Someone is off all med's. Perfect NSV....how great is that.Congrats to you!
Weather has been weird.Set new records last wk....80*one day......this wk is stormy, rainy & cold wind.
Hate that cold wind.
Ordered a new rain jacket with a hood......never liked a hood, but age & crazy weather is a game changer & no umbrella needed will work for me.Hate umbrellas!
How do you good cooks keep fried ground turkey from being so dry?DH likes meat in pasta dishes.Might have to stay with ground beef.
Sorry to be so long winded.Sweet thoughts for lovely Olivia & family.Good thoughts for all who need them.Missing Carol in NC.
Today's dinner will be a dish my Mother made, with simmered roast beef & a lot of veggies .Mine will use my home made beef broth, but no meat. Not DHs fav,but that's his problem.
Pat in Oh2 -
Love the salt and pepper, Pip.
Meredith - Sorry about your cat. That happened to my mum and she put a notice in the local newspaper. Would be Facebook now I guess. Someone rang her to say she'd seen him about a month later and she went to the place and called him and banged his tin of food. She was never so happy when he emerged from the bushes yowling at her! (Siamese)
The post office rang this morning to say my "paperwork" had been sorted out. We were exercising at the time with "Desert Island Discs" on loud, so they left a message on the ansa phone. What a relief!
Just been talking to my cancer friend on the phone. She went on holiday to Agadir in Morocco on a package tour. Seemed to go well and she found it a good break. The hotel was very French though. Luckily she has a few words! We are going to arrange for me to go up to London again for a chemo session. The MRI showed that the chemo is having some effect, which is good news for now. Having it every week tends to dominate your life and she knows it is only palliative.
With regard to vegetables. (Katla - I LOVE split pea soup! ) Apart from providing bulk and fiber to fill you up for fewer calories, they of course provide vitamins and minerals. But an often overlooked benefit is that they create a perfect environment for the gut bacteria . This is of enormous benefit to us for overall health. Lisa - You could find ways to "hide" your vegetables in your food. You wouldn't taste them, but they would still be doing you good.
Heather, feeling relieved about her cheque, in Hampshire UK XXXXXXX
PS - Love the photos of fancy dressed grandchildren and the beautiful couple and dolphins. Black and white photos are great aren't they.
Pat - I use well drained (pressed) frozen spinach in my turkey burgers. Someone else uses apple. Grated zucchini works too.

spikeyhair wrote: »Going to bed now after a disastrous evening snacking, biscuits, peanut butter on toast. Not sure why as I had been good all day. Will need to think about why I did it, I did the same 2 days ago but that was after drinking wine.
Tomorrow is another day and will try not let myself be derailed. I've been doing this for a year now and still have a couple of pounds to lose to get to goal, wondering how to get past this time of up and down pounds. Feel like I'm just tired of it but know I need to keep going otherwise I won't be able to maintain the loss. Anyone else had this feeling of I'm fed up with this, I want to eat anything I like and to h**ll with it

Yep, especially when I am anxious or at odds with someone I care about.
DJ Sometimes sharp ear pain turns out to be TMJ syndrome. Just a thought.
Pip I like the salt & pepper Airstream but I am even more intrigued by your cool backsplash tiles. Did you make some of them?
Joyce
Marcelyn Your poor grumpy momma daughter. I remember how hard it was to be 2 weeks overdue. It's a reminder that your little one is going to hold you hostage in many ways, some not so fun, for many years to come, and he/she is starting right now!
Heather Glad you are getting the reimbursement snafu straightened out.
Penny I am missing you.
Thanks for all the good wishes for OLIVIA. We should get another update today, will keep you posted.

Good morning ladies! Happy Friday! Doing the Friday dance! The weather has been horrible cold, rain and snow mix (typical Michigan weather); BUT I am so glad it is Friday!
Pip- Love the salt and pepper shakers and holder!
Katie- Yea! Dressing up as book characters! What fun! The kids look adorable!
Mia-Love the pictures! Which anniversary where you and hubby celebrating? You both look so happy and so young and healthy! What a great gift to yourselves!
Yvonne- Some of the foods my son wants to have, he will be fixing himself. He wants sushi. That is something I have not yet tried, so am not even sure how to make. He tells me he has helped make it before at a friend's house...He also has bought another propane tank for the grill, so he can do some grilling for us. Works for me, if he is willing to share cooking responsibilities!
Beth-your comment about your friend having seizures reminded me of my MIL. About two years ago she started having what the doctor's initially thought were a series of strokes, but they were actually seizures. They couldn't figure out what was causing them until they took her off all of her meds (she was on about 15 diff meds) and slowly started her back on them. Turns out the seizures were caused from certain meds reacting against others. She is only on two or three meds now. Thank God. All it took was one doctor looking at everything she was taking and deciding to figure out if she actually needed it all.
Whoops! Here come the kiddos! Have to fly! ttfn xoxoxo KJ (Kelly)6 -
Heather, so glad your cheque's all sorted out. I hate having something like that hanging over me.
Mia, the picture of you and your DH is amazing, and LOVED the pics of you and the dolphins...
Marcelyn, hope the little one makes his/her debut soon--my sister swore she carried her daughter for 11 months, and her daughter Elizabeth is now six feet tall, and is still late to everything. Not funny when you're carrying them around, though.
Yvonne in TX, had to go look up supertasters - had run across it before, but hadn't really clicked to it being what I deal with. If Wikipedia has it right, I'm definitely on that spectrum. I've never liked the taste of alcohol, honestly, but will drink a lightly sweet wine to be social--and horror of horrors for the oenophiles, will spike even that with Diet Sprite or 7-up to make it palatable. Scotch, in particular, smells like gasoline to me, while to my husband, it smells like apple juice. I have to sweeten my coffee and iced or hot tea to the point where my husband finds it foul, and cannot handle honestly bitter or sulfurous foods at all, like brussel sprouts, cabbage, kale, grapefruit, or tonic water. They literally nauseate me, sometimes just from the smell--and I can smell a grapefruit from across the room, whether it's sliced or not. I'm also not a fan of super-spicy foods, with horseradish being the only exception. The different pieces on it have varying opinions--some say supertasters crave salt, some say they hate it. I love salt, and easily salt my food twice as much as my hubby. Luckily, never had issues with high blood pressure, even at my heaviest.
Interestingly, they also said supertasters don't tend to be smokers--but as a former smoker, I can tell you that, for me, smoking actually opened up what I was willing to eat, as it deadened some of my reactions. Smoking also deadened my sense of smell, while, of course, making me smell to high heaven to others. The world is a very stinky place...
Oh - and Corey went to his place of work and his employers also believe it's not in his or their best interest to get him back out in the welding shop where he can re-injure himself. He promised them that, the minute he feels he can be of use to them, he'll be back. In the meantime, the insurance is covering 70% of his wage, and we're doing OK. He's being very faithful with the flexibility exercises every two hours, even though he turns white as a sheet and shaky every time. He's a tough one--and if anyone can get back full use, it will be this man.
Off to work out...
Love y'all,

Off to the city today. Dr. appointment - annual check up. Perhaps the Dr can check my thyroid. My Naturopath indicated there could be some thyroid issues happening. That may explain a lot.
Hopefully I make good food choices today too! I am sure I will get my steps in, I am going by myself and I always park far from the door !

I love reading this thread. I feel a common bond with so many of you! I really "got with it" in August 2016 and have lost 25 pounds. It doesn't sound like much, but it was slow and steady weight loss. I did well thru the holidays (which surprised even me)! Then January came and I hit a wall. I have struggled since the beginning of the year. I made a goal of exercising every day in the month of February and did not meet that goal. Even 1 day. I know what to do, I am struggling with my motivation because my weight loss just completely stopped. I am not gaining, but not losing either. It seemed to hit me when I woke up on Sunday, January 22 with the flu. I lost 8 more pounds in 2 days and since then I have struggled with cravings and being hungry. This is something I have never dealt with since last August. I guess the survival mode kicked in when I didn't eat for 2 days during the flu bomb.
Keep up the success stories and positivity. It is bringing back the motivation I need! Thanks, girls!6 -
