Thanks to all of you for your suggestions for my cold.
* I made a cup of hot tea/ honey & squeezed fresh lemon in it. Helped my throat a lot.
*Took a long hot bath with eucalyptus oil. Helped open up my sinuses enough for the saline rinse to work!
* Made some chicken & veggie soup for tomorrow. (Dinner was already made)
* Laid around this evening, read & relaxed.
* making myself one more cup of tea, couple of Advil and turning in.
Got to work tomorrow!

Heather - I am the cheque situation is getting sorted.
Lisa - Glad to hear that Corey is doing okay. Determination goes a very long way.
Pip - It must be unsettling to have so many changes happen so quickly at work. I hope it all works out for you.
Congratulations on a 1805 day streak. Amazing!
Marcelyn - Your poor daughter!
jlstyle - "Less" I like that a lot.
Sue in Wa - Enjoy the Horse Expo and your visit with Katla
Queene in PA - It's good to hear that your finger is healing nicely.
It was an early morning but no sale to put up. Feedback today and one with the difficult associate. It would be nice if she knew the things on the side of her head were for listening. I'm explaining what we need her to improve and she starts complaining about another associate. She can hardly wait until she gets a "real" job. That annoyed me, this may not be what she wants to do for her career but retail is a "real" job. I refrained from telling her that I definitely hope she performs better at her "real job" than she does for us. I'm not sure if she got anything out of today but it is off my list. The rest went well.
Larry took me out for a "Hurry up and have fun" type of lunch. I was still finishing my drink and he was in the truck. The poor dear behind the counter when I ordered a Teen Burger without the bun. "I don't know if we are allowed to do that. How would we do that? " Deer in the headlights kind of moment. I explained that they could just do the teen burger and put lettuce on either side of it. It was quite messy and DH was not amused.
He bought a foot massager off Kijiji that we didn't need. One more thing to find a place for.
DS stopped in after his work. We talked a little about his decision to be tested as a kidney donor. He has talked to a doctor. He will need to talk to my brother's doctor and go through the testing. This brought us to the subject of his health and overall fitness. He went swimming last weekend. I'm hoping to talk him into swimming with me and maybe the occasional walk. We could make it a family affair.
I cannot believe I missed my appointment with my weight loss nurse. I guess I better make an appointment first thing on Monday.
Yeah! I have the weekend off.

Did great on my eating yesterday and then did a binge marathon for about 20 minutes stuffing my face.
Back on track today except it is my GS's 7th birthday party and I will have to "look" at cake and pizza.

For those with tingling and numbness in the middle fingers of the hand, I can tell you that the nerve that supplies the middle finger is the radial nerve. I injured mine badly and went through months of therapy when I was in my late 20s, simply from carrying a heavy purse. Seriously. The nerve runs from your neck over the shoulder down to supply the middle fingers and the back of the hand. I stopped carrying it or any heavy object with a strap over only one shoulder, and haven't had an issue since. I carry a nice leather backpack, and am careful to put the straps on both shoulders to distribute the weight, when I need to carry anything more than will fit in the pockets of my jeans.
TMI warning: The sudden change in diet has caused, of course, constipation, which means I'm not getting water enough to keep things flowing--plus dropping the actual amount of food and upping my fiber has its hazards as well. Don't want to use Miralax, but I will if I have to (that's me talking to my nether regions... ) so things need to straighten up today. Even went to the library, which always encourages that particular muscle movement , for me for some weird reason, and no joy. Hopefully things will shift today, or it's Miralax before bed.
The plan for the weekend is very simple. I've got a ton of Margaret Maron mysteries that I'll be reading over the weekend. That's pretty much the plan. Exercise each day, laundry on Sunday, cleaning when I'm in the mood, and reading a LOT. Bliss!
Just got word from only son that he will be visiting us in July for a week. Look forward to that. Tempted to let his sister know, as they haven't seen each other in two years. Military families get together when they can... However, July in West Texas is brutally hot. Oh, well. We'll get it all sorted. She may be in the process of moving to Fort Bragg, NC, at that time, which is even further away than Missouri, where she is now.
Corey slept without painkillers last night for the first time since the accident. Progress!
Love y'all,
Lisa in West Texas4 -
Good morning! Happy Saturday! Popping on before I begin my Saturday errand running! The sun is out this morning and it is supposed to stay with us all weekend! Yea! The temps however are in the single digits! Boo! As I talk of wintry temps, I am reminded of Penny and her "land of winter". Miss you, Penny!
I happily added an asterisk to my calendar today (for yesterday) in a sparkly silver pen! One diagonal line for strength work, one opposing diagonal line for a thirty minute walk, one horizontal line for recording my meals, and one vertical line for sticking to the plan! Immensely satisfying! Thank you Lisa!
Lisa continued- so glad to hear that Corey is able to rest without meds. That is a big plus! Got a giggle as I read about your potty problems. When you wrote "Hopefully things will shift today,..." my brain left out the "f" in shift. Both words would work. WAter, water, water! Drink it as tea or kool-aid if you have to, in order to get what you need.
Beth- Kudos for you for cutting sugar! Do you drink teas? I recently bought a tea by Yogi teas called Egyptian Licorice; and while I am not a big tea drinker and if I do drink tea, I don't like it sweet, this tea has helped me NOT eat sweets. There is no sugar added, but the sweetness of the spices and herbs in it is wonderful!
LIbby- I see you went for the chicken soup! When I have the "ick" I always make a pot of chicken soup and then add tabasco to each bowl I eat. The tabasco really opens up my sinuses! I swear, if I make it to Avery Island, LA, I am taking a tour of the Tabasco factory and paying homage to the "God of hot sauce"!
Sharon- Your hubby sounds like mine. Let's go out to eat most of the time translates into "let's go out to eat and I will eat really fast and be ready to go and be a pill while I wait for you to finish".
Marcelyn- How are things going on the "baby watch"? So interested in your baby info, as DD is now two weeks away from her due date! Waiting is so hard!
Well, I am going to see if I can get in to get a haircut and color today. I usually color my own hair, but I just feel like I would like some thing different. So a shorter, different cut and a color with maybe some highlights. So...off I go. Groceries, library, hair (hopefully). I am also going to pick up some of those yoga "work" pants. My sister in law had some on at my sister's memorial and I couldn't tell they were yoga pants! They were a nice soft gray. I think I will get a couple pair. I think they will be easy to work in and to travel with as they can be folded or rolled up for packing and NOT wrinkle!
Hello and hugs to all that I haven't responded to ttfn xoxoxo KJ (Kelly)2 -
Carol, - I went back to my wicked ways last night after supper. Happy to report the old single serving bag of Smartpop cheddar, 2 serving bag of Lay's, and 2 Little Debbie Streusel cakes met their demise last night. They will no longer tempt me, lol.
Needless to say, I am NOT hungry for breakfast - tho might be in an hour or so if the "sugar monster" has reawakened and says FEED ME! I have a nice low carb muffin ready to stuff into his face with a little round of Babybel gouda if it needs back-up.
So right now, I'm meal planning and pre-logging my food diary, getting the grocery list ready and anxious to be back on track.
Have a Master Gardener training this morning. I finally got herb seeds planted yesterday, just not very inspired to get started with the weather staying so chilly here. I have 2 trays on warm germination mats in the kitchen, and tomatoes will be next this coming week-perhaps tomorrow.
Lisa, I've been adding half an avocado to my nightly salad - lots of healthy fat and keeps things moving right along. Is that something you could fit into your eating plan? Great that Corey didn't need pain meds, too.
Sue, have fun meeting up with Katla. I'll be waving as you drive through my area on I-5! Have a safe trip!
Kelly, that hair cut and color sounds great. Where do you live again? Single digit temps? Yikes, I will quit griping about a little snow. Those yoga pants sound super comfy - hope they have the color you want - where do you buy them?
Barbie, what a great idea adding a sticker to the calendar when you walked 10,000 steps. I'm going to get some little stars or stickers to paste onto my calendar! Sweet inspiration to keep cutting out the sugar!
Let's make it a wonderful day, ladies!

Lennora I am a fixer plus being a teacher only makes it worse. I too often have to tell myself to step back and let them figure it out. Not easy. It is also hard for me to set boundaries. This week was a no brainer. Hospital during the day and me time at home at night. Most friends are understanding that I gave a quick he is healing and what goes on in hospital stays in the hospital.
My biggest problem is I act like the child who should go to bed but won't go. The result is I end up falling asleep on the couch and then finally getting in bed at midnight. I know I sleep better when I start getting ready about 8 or 9. Time to follow my own advice. LOL

Hi all!
Just finished chopping up my veggies for a king prawn stir fry tonight. DH noodles, me none, or shiritaki. Also boiled up my milk for yoghurt.
Saturday is newspaper day, so I've been ploughing through that and, when DH goes upstairs to watch sports, I will watch some more episodes of Heimat. (German films) I have four to watch this weekend.
Poor DH is now in the full throes of my horrible cold. He is still managing to do his full exercise complement, but more slowly. I had to miss one day.
Dentist on Monday - just hygienist. 18th birthday meal on Thursday - got to decide how to get there and back. :grumble: Bea's first birthday party on Saturday. Got to decide whether to stay in a hotel overnight. :grumble: Decisions, decisions.
I'm also ruminating about whether, or when, to make my annual pilgrimage up to see my elder son - the one who is depressed, unemployed and had two greyhounds. It is quite an expedition, through London, and a stay in a hotel in Nottingham. I will look at my diary. I will make an effort to say hello to his dogs as I know he will appreciate that. Dogs are not my thing, so that is quite a big effort for me. A short walk with them will be good. He has been invited to Bea's birthday party, but I know he won't come.
Penny says she hopes to be back with us next week.
Love to all, Heather UK xxxxxxx

August_1958 wrote: »I love reading this thread. I feel a common bond with so many of you! I really "got with it" in August 2016 and have lost 25 pounds. It doesn't sound like much, but it was slow and steady weight loss. I did well thru the holidays (which surprised even me)! Then January came and I hit a wall. I have struggled since the beginning of the year. I made a goal of exercising every day in the month of February and did not meet that goal. Even 1 day. I know what to do, I am struggling with my motivation because my weight loss just completely stopped. I am not gaining, but not losing either. It seemed to hit me when I woke up on Sunday, January 22 with the flu. I lost 8 more pounds in 2 days and since then I have struggled with cravings and being hungry. This is something I have never dealt with since last August. I guess the survival mode kicked in when I didn't eat for 2 days during the flu bomb.
Keep up the success stories and positivity. It is bringing back the motivation I need! Thanks, girls!
Please don't think that 25 lbs. lost is not much, especially in 4 months. That is over 1.5 lbs./ week which is an awesome achievement. You have lost the equivalent of an average 2 year old and I'm sure your body is thanking you in ways you may not realize for not having to lug that child around. Most of us go off the rails at some point for whatever reason, but it's important to get back on track, one good habit at a time. I found eating more protein helped when I got hungry. Don't try to change your whole lifestyle all at once, make a change, live with it for awhile and then add another good habit. I find this helped me not to become overwhelmed by too many changes all at once and ensured I was able to make them my new habits.
Others may have suggested the same things, I'm a bit behind in the posts, but while catching up I read yours and felt compelled to respond to you, you seemed defeated.
BTW, I lost at the sluggish rate of 3/4 lbs./week so your weight is melting off compared to mine.
Celebrate every ounce you've lost!

Charleen...I am in awe of the kindness you showed that elderly man and his cat. It bought tears to my eyes reading about it. I am inspired by you.

when I think back on it, I think it was very low budg that the owner was out of town when they chose to let the boss go, hw would have had the ball$ to be there to do it himself. the older you get the harder it is sometimes to get employed. they could have reassigned her, she just wasn't an effective good mgr. that part sucks. they could have given her the choice and if she decided to leave then that was her choice, I would have sucked it up and taken the lower position and reduced pay, swallowed my pride and probably would have been a lot happier and a lot less stressful for her2

Pip: Happy 1805!
Lisa: Sleeping without painkillers for the first time after surgery is a huge step toward recovery. Yay for Corey!
Heather: I hope your visit with your son goes well. I am happy that he has dogs. They are excellent companions and love a person just as they are. Unconditional love is a rare and wondrous thing, especially when a person struggles with depression. It is nice to hear that Penney will be with us again in the near future. You are a bearer of good news. :flowerforyou:
Riding lesson today, and I'm looking forward to it. I'm also looking forward to meeting Sue and her daughter at the horse expo in Washington tomorrow. There is snow in the forecast for tomorrow, though. I hope it doesn't mess things up. People in our area are not skilled at driving in snow because it is a rare event & most of us don't get much practice.

Good morning Ladies!
I had the ultimate senior moment this week. I may have mentioned that I am in a book club that meets the first Friday of every month. We set the schedule for the year and sometimes there are changes. One of us host it at our home and we provide refreshments. For some reason after our last meeting I thought someone said "Will see you at Chris's house next month". Never really checking the schedule I got everything prepared this week which was a real struggle with my work schedule. Clean the house, ordered the book, and baked a chocolate Bundt cake. About 10 PM Thursday evening I decided to check my calendar and it said it was at Nancy's house. I shot an email to my fellow club members and asked where the meeting was. Sure enough it was at Nancy's house. Now I have a chocolate Bundt cake with no one to serve it to. I would put it in the freezer but there is no room. I suppose if I don't get invited anywhere next week I will take it to work.
At Nancy's house last night I turn down the wine in favor of water but did have a small slice of her delicious lemon Bundt cake. How ironic that she made a Bundt cake too. I did consider bringing my cake over to her house but I did not want to step on her toes.
I was happy that I gained no weight in spite of the cake and not being able to get in any exercise yesterday. I'm thinking that since I turned down wine twice this week I may make giving up wine my Lenten abstinence. For some reason many people think that my not drinking up wine due to Lent is easier to except then not drinking it because it doesn't fit into my calorie budget. This is especially true for those of my friends who feel I've lost all the weight I should and they are still struggling. I don't offer any advice for them unless asked.
Must get myself in gear. My goal for this weekend is to finish getting all my paperwork ready for the accountant. UGH! I made an appointment at the Apple Genius Bar for 2 o'clock this afternoon and I will get some mall walking in at that time. The weather turned extremely cold again and not conducive to walking outside.
Happy belated birthday Joyce!
Good day and love to everyone!
Chris in MA3 -
Good morning(well almost noon) all! Having a lazy morning but promised myself I would motivate by noon!
I have not been great with the tracking of food...going to try and start again today...log every bite! I will still post my weight on Monday though I doubt it will be great! I did workout 2 times this week and going today so I will get in 3 times this week though goal is 4!
Kelly I see you are in Grand Haven, MI...I am in the UP, Sault Ste. Marie...right next to Canada. We too had single digits this morning but the sun is shinning bright! It makes such a difference with my mood. I have always said that I do not like the snow or cold but it is the lack of sunshine I have the most trouble with!
I see many of you are from the Pacific NW...such a beautiful area! Both my daughters live up there...way up in the Olympic National Park area. I will be flying to Seattle at the end of the month and actually staying there for weekend because my son-in-law will be cooking for the taste of Seattle, he is a chef. I truly find the area absolutely breathtaking!
Hope everyone is having a good start to the weekend!
~Cathy in the snowy but sunny UP of MI!

Really like all of the calendar ideas. May see about doing something like that. I am working my way up to 10,000 - now at 7,000 per day. It would be good to be able to track it on a calendar. Using the fitbit makes me realize how little physical activity I was getting before I started MFP.
Chris - re the reading club, the good news is that you can start the week with a clean house!
Heather - your prawn stir-fry sounds good.
Lanette - I find that my MFP regime is also having an impact on my regularity, despite drinking tons of water. I may try Lanette's suggestion of adding avocado.
Hope everyone has a lovely weekend!

Ginger - To add to the list of cold remedies:
- Vicks is your friend - use it and don't apologize for the aroma as it will help you breathe and not interfere with anything else you may be taking.
- Mint tea or add mint to your tea - calms the queasy stomach from the mess sliding down the back of your throat. Plus it smells nice.
Charleen in Colorado (Much too warm - saw my asparagus are trying to sprout!)3 -
Cheri love your tracking calendar! I may just lift it and print it out for myself, thanks.
DH woke up with a horrible cold, he is such a baby when he is sick, I'm coddling him which I know he secretly loves, plying him with soup, tea, magazines. The house is quiet as he is napping and I have no motivation to go out into the bitter cold here. Today will be a rest day, no guilt, junky movies and a nap are in my future!
Tomorrow I have to work, and then get my meals all planned out. My DMIL has called to tell me how delicious the lentils are that we purchased in Morocco so I know I will be making a lentil dish to serve either hot or cold. Also going to make Balela salad (chickpeas) and a carrot/tahini/raisin salad. Hard boil a 1/2 dozen eggs and the week of lunches will be all set. Setting up healthy and easy breakfast and lunch has been the best strategy I have for keeping my calories in check. Also, I still change into my workout clothes before I leave work, this prompts me to head straight to the gym!
Have a great Saturday everyone. NYKAREN2 -
Feeling about 50% better today Yay! Hope it continues in that direction. Think the tea, hot eucalyptus bath , nasal saline combo was the trick!
Charleen I had forgotten about Vicks. I don't get sick like this often (thank goodness ) will have to pick up some & keep it handy.
Kelly. You should take a trip to Avery Island & southern Louisiana. I am from Louisiana & put Tabasco or Tony's on everything. In fact Tony's seasoning is what is in my salt shaker instead of salt!
Pip. Hang in there. Job restructuring is stressful. My hubby is going through it now too. They let several managers and staff go while his GM was on vacation. GM didn't find out about it till he got back (Surprise!)You have to be patient, do your job well & stay under their radar.
August 1958 slow and steady wins the race.....
My goal is to loose 1 lb a week. I had lost 10 lbs before I found MFP in January. Took me 5 months of back & forth. Since MFP I have lost 11 lbs in 7 wks! I just joined this group and find lots of support & motivation here. Good luck!
Libby- Phx, AZ3 -
Libby, I hate, hate, hate sinus problems. I have to have an antibiotic and cortisone. Years ago I had to go to an actual ENT about my sinuses and I don't have normal infections and require a different type of antibiotic than is usually given. Both my daughters have the same problem. But when my girls got old enough as children and didn't need a pediatrician, our PCP always knew to order the different one.
I email Sherry last night and she responded. She has had a lot of health problems and a lot of problems getting the new state she moved to when she moved out of the shelter into the couples home. She is finally getting that straightened out and getting appointments. She is still living with the couple and the woman sometimes just sits with her and holds her to give her comfort. They watch a lot of TV together. She said she doesn't want to write in here and talk about all he medical problems.
I love good sweet tea. I would make a good southerner!!! But I limit myself to twice a week because of my high blood pressure and the sweetener I use. DH loves to go to Texas Roadhouse and I get the bowl of chili for supper. It is a 3 alarm chili and I drink 3 glasses of tea. Also a local Mexican place has really good tea and I usually drink 2 glasses there. Other than that it's water all the way. I have always wondered about the calming tea Allie drinks at bedtime.
Well, it's the Ohio valley here. Tuesday we had severe storms and tornadoes, Wednesday temps in the 60's with it wonderful blue skies. Thursday we had snow, yesterday it was clear skies again but around 35. Today it is going to be around 65. No wonder we get sinus problems and colds and flu!!!!
Heather, I can not believe Bea is going to have a 1 year birthday party. Just no way.
Joyce, Indiana1 -
Joyce, thanks for the update on Sherry.
This is the first Saturday in what seems like forever that I have had nowhere I have to be. Took a walk with Dave, then a bath, and the rest of the day will be spent relaxing. May even turn on the fireplace and have a nap!3 -
