The sort of thing we do on weekends ...
Saturday -- My husband and I decided to do a nice, casual relaxing ride on Bruny Island today.
We took the ferry over to the island, and started the ride with a climb. I was testing new shoes and whenever I get new shoes, the whole cleat thing is always a pain. I thought I had it right, then second guessed myself and changed it ... and so on and so forth ... and it was wrong. So at the top of the hill, my husband "shoed"? "shod"? me. And we finally got it right.
The ride continued!
With shoes and cleats that worked, I actually attempted climbing some hills standing up. I haven't done that in a long, long time! It's a bit of work! I could be stiff tomorrow working a set of muscles I haven't worked recently.
Two rain storms came through ... one just before we reached our turn-around town, and we missed it. And one while we were in our turn-around town, and we missed it because we were having a relaxing lunch under shelter. That one was accompanied by thunder!
So it was a good ride. And nice to not really have much in the way of schedules and deadlines.

Machka9 Wow what a wonderful way to spend a weekend.1

Machka, your ride sounds awesome. Thanks for adding a map to tell us more about where you went.
Yesterday a woman in my line dance class told me that since she has been dancing with me, her stamina has improved and she is now able to do much more work in her yard before getting exhausted.
I am excited about my adventure in Seattle today and so sad that Jake will be staying home. He said that he feels better today (today is day #13 of his illness), but certainly not well enough to go somewhere all day.
I don't do holiday baskets for children or grandchildren but if I did, they'd be filled with books and office or craft supplies and nothing edible.

I am going to take 2-2 mile walk today. Just getting ready to go on the first of my 2 mile walks today.
I had to weigh myself twice this morning because I could not believe the number! Finally a drop of 2.2 pounds!
Mary from Minnesota5 -
Mia- I know that you can do it! I count 1-2-3-4 in my head when I walk and speed up the counting to move faster. It works for me.

I have to say that the last few days I have really been struggling with Food Thoughts every waking moment! All I have been craving is sweets! Yesterday within a 20 minute time period I wanted, cookies, chocolate covered potato chips, whopper Easter eggs, and a bear creek caramel waffle cone. That was during my evening walk around town with my husband. I even decided to go off plan and have the ice cream cone. In fact we were heading there. You all know as well as I do how easy it is to gain weight. I just have to look at sweets and I gain weight! But, loosing it takes a lot of work, mindful thinking, and will power! I thought about eating the ice cream cone and the consequences of that action. First it would definitely have thrown me out of fat burning mode, second I would not want to weigh myself in the morning, third I would feel sick from sugar overload, and fourth it would set me back from reaching my goals. I said this to my husband and we turned towards home leaving the ice cream cone for another day and another battle! I was rewarded with a 2.2 lb loss this morning instead of a gain as well as a re-fortified determination to reach my goals!

Mary - good job that you were able to stop and weigh the pros and cons and "what you want the most over what you wanted at the moment" and walk away. What a victory for you, not to mention an inspiration for us. Thanks for sharing.

machka9: Thanks so much for sharing the maps of your ride. It makes a huge difference for my understanding of your accomplishment. I am so impressed!
This talk about holiday baskets has lit a fire under me. I'd forgotten all about Easter. I need to figure out something for my little grand bunnies (children). Yikes! Your comments have given me enough time to shop and ship. THANK YOU!

MARY ~ Congrats on the weight loss and on being able to resist the sweets.3

Did an hour of a Peak 10 DVD. The plan for tomorrow is to do some riding on the recumbant bike
Making some lemon bars for Vince to have later in the week. This is a new recipe so I hope it turns out OK. Made jello yesterday and it looks like it's 1/2 gone already. I put it in a mold and it didn't come out of the mold well. I'm thinking what I need to do next time is put the mold in warm water first.
grogers - awesome pictures
Min - a 19 minute mile is nothing to sneeze at. Congrats
Hope people read my posts. I've asked a few questions and never gotten a response. So I'll ask again, how can you "friend" someone now?
Leigh - I'm making a list of things to put in the "tote". Thanks for the idea of colored pencils. Jess is very artistic so she might enjoy them. Or maybe paint brushes
NYKaren - I agree with you totally on the attitude of younger kids. I'm thinking that a lot of it has to do with the parents.
machka - great ride
Mary - good job. Are you the type of person who can have just a little of something. That helps me, but I know everyone can't do that.

Having a little of something can be dangerous for me. I just want more and more every day. It is better for me to plan for a carb re-feed day one maybe two times per month.
Some of you may wonder why I am on this keto diet. Those of you that have known me for the last 3+ years it is because of my Lymes disease. I just can't rid my body of it. I was tested a couple weeks ago and still have it. I am just trying different things to see if they have a positive effect on eliminating this disease from my body. That is also why I do the 19:5 fast every day. It is supposed to rid my body of dead and dying cells. This is a very dreadful disease. It is a body system destroyer. It jumps from your blood cardiovascular system into other body systems. That is why doctors think that they have gotten rid of it after giving you an antibiotic. Because it no longer shows up in your blood test. Mine right now is attacking my skeletal system in the joints. It feels like I have arthritis. It also acts on my level of energy. Believe it or not I have to push myself to do all of the exercises that you see me post on a daily basis. Some people feel like they have MS and have actually been diagnosed as having MS. There's a lady here in town that is wheelchair bound because of it. It is also affecting her neurological system and her life has been touch and go for over a year now. I will not give up.

Michele I think you find them under friends in the community section put their user name in the search box and then make a friend request when asked. I believe it is similar to FB. I usually come to this site and just touch base every few days in the friends site. Hope this helps. It seems odd you cannot do this from the home page.
(((Mary))) I am so sorry. I just read parts of a book called How to Heal Yourself When No One Else Can. The author Amy Scher has Lymes disease, too. Some of her ideas are out there, but they work for her. Just reading how Lymes effected her life is interesting. Take care.1 -
Meg – Certainly sorry for all you’ve gone through; will be praying for a good outcome. Sorry that Benny isn’t doing well; it is difficult to lose a fur-baby because they can be a good stress reliever in times of trouble.
{{{{{HUGS}}}}}
Leigh – I can’t tell you how awful it really was; but, so glad that we did not continue down that lane. I practically told the loan officer ‘out-of-town’ where she could put it when she called me a week ‘after’ we ‘withdrew our application’ that she had gotten approval to ‘waive’ the “Profit & Loss” schedule. “Gee, lady, what do you NOT understand about ‘we’ve decided NOT to go through with this route’. We have other plans and we won’t go ‘into debt’ doing it. Might have less money in our ‘retirement account’; but, it will be worth it to get rid of some debt and have more money in our pockets. We can put $$$ back into the ‘fund’ without any problems. We can have it ‘auto deducted’ as well, so we won’t miss it coming out. What we had tried to do was going to be a ‘bad’ decision. As it stands, we’ll have money in our savings, money for 3 months of income, and be ‘debt-free’ … all without even considering bankruptcy. It’s been hard enough to have to watch DOS & DDnL#1 going through it; but, they made their bed; and, they have had to lie in it. But, our ‘trying’ to help them prevent this has been a ‘drain’ on us. I’m glad that they finally decided to do it, to be honest. One thing it has done is make Louis and me open up about ‘finances’ and even given me a little insight into how he runs his business. At this point, I am ready for DOS to just go ‘find himself a job where taxes are taken out’ and ‘maybe even had health and retirement benefits’. They’ll have no debt, so they should have more spendable income. They’ve got to find a car for DDnL#1 because they are turning it in. With a $520+ car payment – I am surprised it hasn’t occurred sooner. Top that off with private school tuition (something they have to do because of how bad the public school here are). They had to do a ‘pre-filing budget’ … which son said was the ‘most humiliating thing’ he had ever gone through; and, will have to go ‘post-filing budget’ as well. I gave him copies of the Dave Ramsey program that our DDnL#2 had done when she got a divorce from her first husband and he left her totally broke and with a lot of debt. She said it ‘really worked’ for her. I’m reading the book that came with it and ‘boy, has it been an eye-opener’.
Carol – We’re have a beautiful ‘cold’ day down here as well. Louis said that he guessed it was 30-degrees outside.
Margaret – There are also a lot of schools that don’t follow Michelle Obama’s ideas of how to eat healthy because the counties are poor and struggling as it is. They still have programs where children that would normally go without food a way to eat 2 meals a day. Breakfast and lunch. There are some ‘counties’ around us whose ‘public schools’ are better than this county; but, you still would have to ‘pay out-of-county tuition’ which is almost as high as the tuition in the private school here. It has actually increased in size because it merged with another in a surrounding county. New teacher, new students, a ‘harder curriculum’; and, a lot more ‘homework’ for the kids; but, I think it has been good for the students from the school that took in the other school. More money and they’ve even gotten students in that were going to private schools in another adjoining county. It’s bad when the tuition is about as high as it is to go to college.
Joyce – I had heard that “April the giraffe” had had her baby. Saw on TV a giraffe ‘having a baby’ and dropping it out about 7 feet or so. When the shelter takes in feral cats here, they are ‘fixed’ and one eat has a ‘nick’ cut out so that people will know they are ‘fixed’. I’ve seen a lot of cats with short tails. My former sister-in-law says that in Japan, people will break the tails of kittens in several places because they ‘think’ it brings them ‘luck’. I had never heard that until I saw their cat whose tail was in several different directions. I am surprised they are going to ‘fix’ the tail.
Michele – Sometimes it takes ‘letting go’ and letting children ‘face-plant’ themselves so they learn the consequence of their actions. Sometimes they blame us or the ‘expect’ that we’ll ‘bail them out’. DOS’s and DDnL#1’s money problems (because of decisions she had made without first consulting him) caused them to the point they ended up filing for bankruptcy this past week. I know it ‘hurt’ for our son; but, she has done things in the past that should have been a ‘wake-up’ call. He has made 2 distinct ‘threats’ that I told him he ‘needed to stop doing’ especially ‘in front of the girls’ … one thing it is doing is making the feel ‘unsafe and not protected’ and if he doesn’t carry through with them, he is view as not someone to be taken seriously. It is almost as ‘if’ he is afraid of making her mad. I have no problem in that area – ANYTHING I say to her ‘makes her mad’. If it doesn’t it will by the time she gets home and tells DOS. I finally had the nerve to ‘tell him as I saw it’. It made him mad; but, he got over it. I only told him what I ‘see’ ca be a problem. Maybe now, he will take the responsibility on and get her to give him a ‘fair’ share of her check so that ‘he’ can be the one paying the bills. It’s obvious that she has no control over having $$$ in her wallet or bank account. She’s uses a ‘debit card’ for everything and then ‘wonders’ why she is ‘over-drawn’ at the bank. She doesn’t write them in her register; just throws them in the console. If they fall out, which they do quite often, ‘oh well …’!
I do not ‘like’ raisins, although I ‘love’ grapes. I’d rather have cranraisins instead. So when I am looking for a trail mix; I make sure it doesn’t have raisins in it.
Most are wrapped in a stiff cellophane, which could probably be found in a store such as Hobby Lobby or Michael’s. I think you can buy it by the yard. Maybe a place like JoAnne’s that sells a lot of crafts.
Beth – I hate banks, and I do NOT do any ‘online’ banking. I prefer a paper trail. I always want my checking/saving accounts to ‘balance to the penny’. Louis’ bank sends ‘copies’ of the checks he wrote in his statement. He banks at a different bank than I do (although both are ‘joint’ accounts. We just don’t use the other’s account without their knowledge or permission. It works for us.
You say your son will be ‘home’ in May. Where is he, in college? Living somewhere else with a job? Maybe he doesn’t want to go to college, maybe you need to stop funding his education and tell him to apply for some ‘student loans’ and not ‘co-sign’ with him. Taylor got the HOPE scholarship, state-funded by the lottery … her grades were high enough to get that. It pays a lot of the costs.
Ginger – Those paintings are wonderful. What type of paint do you use? I have a lot of journals that I have written down things that have been ‘private’ for me. Do they stay in your journal or do you take them out? Are they painted on both sides? How long does it take for them to dry? Heck, just give me your ‘instructions’. Such a good idea; and, a way to keep the pages. I know from reading mine that I have come so far in ‘how I feel about myself and others’.
Paula – If he was spending money in bars, buying rounds and giving big tips; she had to either have been there herself or know someone who was. Shock value by telling her the truth will maybe keep her from saying that ‘he must have been generous with everyone else BUT you’.
Mia – I wish there was an exercise for ‘tromping through the woods’. I think that was more exercise than ‘walking the dog’ or ‘walking on a treadmill’. Surprisingly a shorter period of time on treadmill than walking for a longer period of time with the dog. Go figure!
Leigh – Our DOS married the first time at 19; and, later the next year became a father. Would not trade my DOGD for anything; but, he only got 1 year of college under his belt. He would not move back in with us to be able to save $$$ on not having to pay rent and utilities and would have had the $$$ to send himself back to school at night. Now, he regrets it; but, it is never too late to go back. Unfortunately, at the moment this probably would not happen (unless he decided to go to a technical college. I wish he would, so that probably won’t happen. Our DYS did go to college, has a good job; probably pulling down 6 figures. He was 36 before he got married – and became a Daddy when he married DDnL#2 because she has a daughter.
NYKAREN – I know about ‘kids’ being disrespectful, especially to their elders, is something that is ‘totally’ new to me. I wasn’t brought up that way.

✔9. Digital Detox. Track daily timeouts.
• Fiber. Missed my big veggie salad yesterday. DH made hamburgers. But I made my own low carb "bun" with 1 Tbsp melted butter, 1 egg, 1/2 tsp. coconut flour, 3 Tbsp almond flour, 1/2 tsp baking powder, salt. Mix and microwave for 90 seconds. Split and toast. It was thin but worked. I'll experiment with it. It's on the internet as a "2-minute Low-Carb English Muffin (310 cal, 6.9 carbs, 3.5 fiber)
• Exercise. Didn't do the elliptical yesterday. I let it get too late. I need to set a time earlier in the day for it.
• Digital Detox. Still experimenting with times. I may try sleeping without the Kindle or iPad tonight.
• Weight loss! Dropped into the 270s today. (279.6) Haven't been here since May 6th last year. Official weigh in for me is Monday. Feels motivating.
NSV: Last night, standing up from my bath. I noticed it took much less effort. I'm sure it's a combination of weight loss and exercise. Nice little gift of an observation. ;-)
• Declutter. Today I'm working on the kitchen. It needs a good cleaning. I'll try getting the pantry cleaned and decluttered. Planning to find space for glass baking plans - to get them off the top of the upper cabinets. I have an idea for making a "Fresh Eggs" sign to put above the cabinets. I think there's an old pallet out back. Hmm...
Have a great day.

Thanks for the kind comments about the art work.
Lenora... I have a special journal just for the secret writings. I haven't torn any pages out. But - I have collaged and/or painted over individual pages in other journals. I use gesso and cheap acrylic paints from Walmart or Hobby Lobby. The junk journal pages in the post above were painted using mostly Martha Stewart satin acrylic paints - from a set my DGD gave me for Christmas 2015. But I'll use whatever i have on hand. I use rubber stamps to add some interest. Gesso is good to have on hand. It covers anything. Sometimes I gesso the whole page. Sometimes just certain passages. Sometimes I don't use gesso at all. I use wax paper to protect the other pages in the journal during the painting. I let it dry during the day - or use a heat tool to dry it quickly. Careful not to mix the wet paints into a mud color - dry a color before adding another color that won't blend well. One thing to remember... if you don't like the results you can always paint or collage over it.
Collage is fun. Just snipped pieces from magazines or junk mail. I use a glue stick to glue it down or wet glue for heavier pieces. I'll add paint or markers or stamps. Just have fun.

Ginger I love the idea of creating art on top of your secret writings. I have never heard of that before and it is so innovative. Just love it!
Just got back from work. This was our first big meeting of my new project. (Which I officially start June 1)In my part of the project, I will be the lead for a group of caregivers. Our task is to first interview approximately 300 caregivers in our area who have or are currently taking care of people with mental health and:or addiction issues. From their stories we work together to find ways to improve their interaction with health care. This is the simplified version but this is a three year project. So today I met most of my team and we are a group of diverse and amazing women. So look out world, great changes are coming! Now if I can just finish my other project, be released from my management job and only focus on my new project, life will be grand.
Below are some pics of my back yard kind of scary but our sump pump is keeping up! Sarah

I do a very similiar process as you. Gesso! Acrylic paints from WalMart, JoAnn's or Michael's. I keep clippings from old magazines and incorporate them with any kind of paper product I can recycle. Junk mail is my friend! I will try and post some pictures later. I love quotes so I incorporate them whenever possible. Pinterest probably has loads of ideas for Art Journaling.

Thanks Barbie,
Penny you and me both hope we both have a better month.
Nice job Leigh Lisa and Brenda making progress
Lisa hope your son gets better.
Pam enjoy the latin dancing.
I have been good at going to aquafit but every time I am about to start to add to my exercise routine my knee starts to bother me. Last Saturday I took my mother to the emergency room and they admitted her that night. She is 90 and had pneumonia. I am going now to finally take her home.
So hopefully now I can get back to making some progress.

Good Evening My Dear Friends
We had the garage sale today and I had lots of boy’s clothes from my friend that moved. It was tons of work and really made me feel old and out of shape. The weather turned exceptionally cool and didn’t warm up until noon. Unfortunately the traffic was very light so didn’t make as much as we would have liked. DH and I were so tired when it was over that we just put everything in the garage and I’ll have to sort it later. I will take most of the kid’s clothes to a resale shop so she can get a little money from them. Everything else will be donated to a church that gives them directly to people in need. The way my back feels right now, it may be a few days before I even tackle the garage but I hope I'm up to it tomorrow. I wish I had time to read but I am just too tired, but want you to know I’m thinking of you all.

WOW - Ginger and all of you artists out there, more great ideas for what to do on rainy days. "Doing art" over secret journals is inspiring!
Pip, a big thumbs up on the airstream curtains. They'll look great.
Sarah, has the river crested or is it supposed to get higher? Maybe that's a hard thing to measure - where we live, there are lots of sensors and the weather service is able to predict fairly accurately how high the rivers will get before they recede. I would imagine in flatter land, the water spread into low spots and maybe takes longer to drain out. Glad your sump is working! Your new project with caregivers sounds very rewarding and exciting!
Mary - thank you for sharing your Lyme Disease story. All of your exercise is impressive considering what's going on in your body. I know for me, most of the time, a bite of something sweet is a gateway drug - especially if there's a whole stash waiting to be consumed in the pantry. Worse than alcohol - and I also get a type of "hangover" - super achy joints when I over-indulge.
Keri, I'm sure your mom will be glad to get home. I can't remember - does she live by herself? Sorry your knee is acting up.
Margaret, regarding knees... I'm tempted to see if my insurance will cover self-referral to PT since the ortho doc didn't give me a "prescription" -- he was in a super hurry, when he saw I didn't have anything structural to be fixed per the MRI, he moved on. It does hurt some when I walk a ways but overall I think it's benefitting from more exercise, so maybe it will take care of itself.
Machka9, that map was neat - I bet the bike ride over those islands was spectacular.
Lenora, your post about the loan and insurance sure rang a bell. Makes a person wonder sometimes if everyone is still "in training" .... and I've been so frustrated that I've sometimes asked that (in a nice way.)
I just checked my little tomatoes and herbs in the greenhouse - despite it being cloudy and rainy with only a few minutes of sunshine every hour or so, the temp stays in the mid to upper 70's. Plants are happy! They have a long ways to go tho but at least are looking healthy.
And I had a pleasant surprise in the mail today - a big refund check from the insurance company for "over-paying" for a hearing aid....a year ago! I had no idea I'd even overpaid. I only have it in one ear--some is age related but I've had many ear-aches and problems in that ear for a long time. DH still gets frustrated as I can't hear as well as he can, and I had to explain to him it will never be like it was when I was ten. It's better but not perfect.... for some reason I've lost hearing in the range of his voice?
OK ladies, have a great rest of your weekend!

Hi all, I'm back from the grandchildren, but too tired to write much. Of course, we miss them already and had a wonderful time.
I have visits to us planned for the future, so my heart is happy.
The art work Ginger showed us is terrific!
Will post more tomorrow.

Lanette The rain has stopped so the water should recede in the next few days. I am sitting here listening to the pump go off every 25 seconds. So glad your little plants are coming along. Mine are just sprouting but they are indoors and it is too cold for outside.
Sarah.

Pip love the curtains.
Lanette my PT says building up thigh and quads muscles help keep knees healthy. He is also having me do stretches. I have such a high deductible my insurance will not cover these visits. If you want to go through insurance you doctor has to approve. Surprised your doctor did not refer you. Things do not always show up on MRI's. What type of exercises are you doing? I skipped the doctor because it would have added to the cost and those tests are expensive. I still may need them yet, but I don't think so. Knee is already starting to feel stronger doing the right exercises for me.
