Margaret: The critter in the photo is a nutria. Nutrias are South American rodents that were brought in to the US as a source of fur for fur coats in the 1950's or thereabouts. Nutria never caught on & fur coats in general fell from fashion so the breeders turned their nutria loose on an unprotected ecosystem. They're herbivores & I've read they're a problem in Oregon and Louisiana. I'm not sure where else. (I read up on them because they're a problem in my yard.) :ohwell:
[/quote]
My mother had a nutria coat and offered it to me when she was downsizing. I had never heard of the fur and glad I didn't know. Rodent??!! Ugh! I so glad I turned down her offer. I get the willies thinking about how I had tried on that coat 25 years ago.

(((Mary))) I am so sorry you're still struggling with Lymes. I hope for the best and pray for a cure.
I had a long ride today, including a lesson and grooming Arrow twice, before and after the ride. He was lazy and I was frustrated. :grumble: One of the perks of not owning a horse is that I don't have to worry about him until next week.

The sort of thing we do on weekends ...
Saturday -- My husband and I decided to do a nice, casual relaxing ride on Bruny Island today.
We took the ferry over to the island, and started the ride with a climb. I was testing new shoes and whenever I get new shoes, the whole cleat thing is always a pain. I thought I had it right, then second guessed myself and changed it ... and so on and so forth ... and it was wrong. So at the top of the hill, my husband "shoed"? "shod"? me. And we finally got it right.
The ride continued!
With shoes and cleats that worked, I actually attempted climbing some hills standing up. I haven't done that in a long, long time! It's a bit of work! I could be stiff tomorrow working a set of muscles I haven't worked recently.
Two rain storms came through ... one just before we reached our turn-around town, and we missed it. And one while we were in our turn-around town, and we missed it because we were having a relaxing lunch under shelter. That one was accompanied by thunder!
So it was a good ride. And nice to not really have much in the way of schedules and deadlines.
Distance: 74.5 km
Elevation: 640 m
Moving Time: 4:21:31
Elapsed Time: 5:45:08
Speed: Avg: 17.1 km/h | Max: 51.1 km/h
Heart Rate: Avg: 135 bpm | Max: 178 bpm
How many miles is that
I don't use miles so I had to look it up ...
1 kilometer is equal to 0.621371 miles
Therefore 74.5 km * 0.621371 = 46.3 miles.

Thank you ladies for your understanding comments.
It is snowing here again today. We are supposed to get another 2 - 3 inches of snow over night. Ugh! I'm so tired of it. Had a few warm days and right back into winter.
I do have tulips growing in the house - I needed something to remind me that spring is coming. Hope I can get them to bloom.
Hugs to everyone - you are a wonderful bunch of ladies.

Good evening Ladies.
In light of the fact that so many of you are sharing your stories of abuse, I feel safe in revealing that I too was a victim of sexual abuse was a young teen. The abuser was my step-father and he was a nasty man. I never told my mother or my half sisters (he was their father), I wanted to protect them. My mother and I were never close, she was not the loving sort and maybe I harbor some resentment toward her because she didn't protect me, but then again, I never told her. This is why I find it so difficult to make the long trip every few months to visit her. Ironically, the half sisters I protected all those years ago are not a part of my life, their choice, not mine.
I thank all of you that have commented on my achievements and the ability to keep on going thru adversity. Believe me, I was not always that way, but I thank God everyday that I am now. To say that my life now is a challenge is an understatement! Four months before I decided to lose this weight was an especially low point in my life. I remember going to the doctor for something that was determined to be stress related. She asked what was going on and I recounted what had happened in the past week. Three events had just occured that were exceptionally devastating to me financially and personally. She left the room, came back and handed me a card saying she felt compelled to give me the name of a therapist. I didn't go to the therapist, had no money, but got on the elliptical machine that was standing in the corner of my family room. That became my stress reliever and has been ever since. I sweated, I cursed, I cried, and it helped. In September I decided I would seriously try to lose the weight because eating was something I had control over when the rest of my life was spinning out of control. I hated how I looked, dreaded trying to figure out what to wear everyday that would not be too tight. My choices were few and I had no money for clothes that fit, nor would I admit that I was quickly approaching size 18 on my 5'4" frame.
I recommitted on MFP 943 days ago and haven't looked back. Has my life gotten easier? No. It's better than it was, but far from easy. Somewhere along the line a switch went off in my brain that has allowed me to cope with the challenges better. I wish I knew what it was so I could bottle it and send it to those of you struggling, but I am grateful every day that it happened. I will also mention that I suffered from depression in my 30's and 40's. I don't anymore.
So that's my back story. You know where I am presently and now know where I've been. Most people in my life do not know about the abuse, my son doesn't, and most of my friends don't. Unfortunately it is much more common, as evidenced by those of you sharing your stories. I consider myself now healthy, both physically and mentally, and I am truly grateful.
Thank you for allowing me to share this. It has helped writing it down.
Everyone have a good evening.

Pip – Beautiful choice!
Ginger – Thanks! I think I will try that. I am very familiar with Gesso; as an artist I use it for a lot. I always paint my canvases with it even though they have a thin coat on them aready. I do it to smooth out the texture, mostly. I was in ‘art school’ when acrylics came out. They have greatly improved since. Back then, you could NOT ‘mixed’ them together to make other colors like you can ‘oils’ (or even watercolors, to a degree). They work a lot like watercolor when the paper is wet or you use a wet brush. And opaque when you use them straight up. Good work! Love them all. Never thought about painting on an index card. I could do that all day long. It wouldn’t take all the clean-up of setting up my oils and then ‘hoping’ I have the color I need to use. I painted a former HS alumni after he retired from the Army as a Full Bird Colonel (and he paid me to do it). He wanted the bars to be ‘spot on’ and after looking them up on the Internet, I asked if he would send them to me. The colors were ‘so’ different on the Internet than they were in ‘real life’.
Guess I need to get a “Pinterest” account. My DDnL#2 send me stuff all the time.
Sarah – I image that is about how it looks at my son’s ‘lake place’. They stayed at one of his boss’s houses, so that ‘if’ they need to take things upstairs, they could. DDnL#2’s mother and daddy called them every 15 minutes giving them reports about how things are, ‘in town’. The lake is flooded because of the rains; but, it does flood in town, too. They’re about 5 blocks from the MS River; with 2 levees between them and it. When it gets up to a certain level, they start moving things or putting them up on blocks.
Lanette – The one in TX was ‘surprised’ that we had ‘withdrawn’ because the local loan office just said, we had ‘withdrawn the application’ and she was ‘curious as to why we did it since they had waived the P&L statement that had been holding it up. I viewed it ‘very much as an unanswered prayer … that got answered’. Worst thing we could have chosen to do. Not only would my car be ‘upside-down’ in a year; I would have ‘encumbered’ some bills that are ‘not encumbered’ and it would have tied back to our house. If DH was to pass away (or even if I did) could have ‘possibly’ lost what we have worked YEARS to get. Don’t do this … Don’t let anyone talk you into it.
BAD IDEA! Under any circumstance … I would guess that a Reverse Mortgage would be the same. IF it ‘sounds too good to be true, it probably is … RUN’!!!!!
Janetr okc – Pretty girl! Our DMGD went to prom tonight. Her dress was outstanding! They bought a blouse that they had the tailor re-do and used it instead of the one that was cut in so far that she was miserable in it. It cut in real close front and back. They got one that had sleeves in it (short) – lacey … beautiful, on her
Machka9 – On my Windows, I have Cortana (a search engine at the lower left-hand corner of my screen. I find it invaluable because I can look up anything and not have to close out and go to IE or Google. “Ask me anything” is what is showing in the box.
Paula – They had some beautiful tulips, daffodils, and hydrangeas at Publix. I would have bought something; but, then Louis would have want to know ‘if we could eat them’. I do want to get in my garden and start fixing things up. I need to see if Louis will weed it; and, then I need to get some potting soil to put over them. Most of the bulbs probably need to be dug up and separated and replanted. But, I don’t know squat about doing that.

Hello ladies: We had a good day today. Got up early and loaded the truck with junk to take to a free cleanup day in town. Had to wait in line almost an hour but it was worth it to get rid of that stuff. We have more we need to get rid of but at least a big chunk is gone. I am doing a Fitbit challenge this weekend so trying to get more steps in. My DD's best friend started the challenge and she is working double shifts this weekend at the Denver airport. I think that gives her an unfair advantage. LOL
Rori - Glad you had a good trip to Hawaii and hope you enjoy the next one.
Re - Hope you find that ring.
Mia - Sounds like you are making great progress.
KJ - Hope you have a safe trip home.
Mary - Sorry to hear you are still struggling with the Lymes.
Pip - Like the material. I think it will look very nice.

It was a lovely day for a wedding. The view of the river coulees from the museum was spectacular. Lovely wedding, lovely supper, lovely people.
I had quite a few compliments on how good I looked in my new dress. I was afraid my thigh highs were going to roll all the way down but that didn't happen. I can't believe that I have worn it one time and already my sister is asking to take it to Hawaii with her. She doesn't even know how it will fit her. I told her ask me again maybe in June as I already have plans of wearing it in May for my birthday. I may be selfish but I want to keep it for myself just a while.
Ended up driving home as Larry had a few too many wobbly pops. Proud to say that tonight I stopped myself from becoming a *kitten* when the old feelings from before when he drank consistently filled my head. He hadn't done/said anything wrong but I could feel those old, familiar feelings start to gather.
-Sharon in Lethbridge , Alberta where the sun shone so cheerfully today.5 -
Sharon - Excellent job identifying those "old" reactions. Our brains do get hardwired to any form of threat, even if nowdays it doesn't apply. Well done! I'm glad you got compliments on your dress. Feels good, doesn't it.
I have had two days of much too much eating and drinking. Far too much. Back to it today. Like Bea, I won't let one slip up defeat me! I tumble and fall, but I get back up again. I have a few pounds to shift before they stick.
Love Heather UK xxxxxxx4 -
Good morning girls
We are having lovely Spring weather here. It was the Grand National horse race here in Liverpool yesterday 70,000 people wow, we don't go but watch on TV. We will be in town today and expect it to be busy with lots of visitors from all around the world
Reading some of your posts about being abused made me so sad and how I admire your courage and resilience
Just enjoying my second cuppa in bed (courtesy of DH) will then do a Leslie Sansone vid (to balance out the wine to be drunk later LOL)
Enjoy your Sunday

Rori I hope you have a lovely time in Reno. And (((hugs))) to another one of my Warrior Survivor Sisters. I am in awe of all of you.
Chris Thank you for sharing your story. I know you are glad that elliptical was waiting for you that day. Better than a therapist. You have an amazing success story.
Ginger No words. Just...do you have any idea what a talent you are? OMG! Seriously.
Cheri I can't wait to see your artwork. I am loving the art journaling. I didn't know about it.
Paula I am so glad you walked away from your abusive husband. And I hope your tulips bloom, too. I bet they will...
Mia You got this.
Sharon in Lethbridge I feel as if I should pay for one of your friend's parking tickets. I got the giggles when I thought of her getting a second ticket while paying the first. So amusing. But I am sorry for your friend *said through fits of giggles* ...then I got to the part about the woman giving your husband a doll head and shoes that don't fit the other doll. heeheeheehee. By the way, I am sure you would be a wonderful officiant. And I hope you post a picture of yourself in your new dress so we can Ooh and Aah!
Leigh in France Your future grandchildren are going to love that treasure trunk...how wonderful...
Lisa "Stress and distress are two very different things, and I need to remind myself of that"...a great quote. I am going to read your books. I already have Heather's "Windows", which is compelling.
NYKAREN My 8th grade History teacher was awesome. We all thought he had unreasonable expectations and was kind of mean. We complained about him to each other and to our parents, and even to our other teachers. We had homework due, or a test scheduled, the day after a basketball/football game or track meet. None of the other teachers did that. He gave quizzes at least weekly, but they were announced in advance. And he made us read. And write. About history. About what shaped the world. It ended up being wonderful and fascinating. I discovered that I could take the initiative, and that I liked learning stuff. I entered 8th grade a lazy student who got by on native intelligence. The next year, I entered high school eager to learn and primed to be proactive in my studies. He made a big difference in my life because of his high standards, and because he didn't let our rolled eyeballs and whining deflate him. You are making a difference because of your high standards. The only people that matter are your students.
Margaret "What needs to be protected and what needs to be restored." Another great quote! Wonderful post.
@Machka9 Wow! I don't spend my weekends doing what you spend your weekends doing. That looks like a fabulous, exhausting adventure. I had to laugh at the thought of your husband shoeing you.
Mary I am so proud of you. I was at work yesterday for a double shift. I took my roasted veggies, Greek yogurt with raspberries, seaweed salad, and egg & beet salad with me, and had protein shakes available. I did fine until I started getting tired. Instead of eating the yogurt I ate 3 Peppermint Patties. Ugh. If I had eaten the yogurt I would not have wanted the Peppermint Patties.
Pip I really like that curtain material. A light day for you would be exhausting to many people. You rock.
Keri Hope your mother feels better soon!
DJ Sorry you had light traffic for your garage sale. They are so weather-dependent. I gave up on garage sales when my mom told me I could realize more savings in tax deductions by donating the stuff than I could make selling it. It's too disappointing to go to all that work and have a light turnout. My empathy is with you.
Lanette "for some reason I've lost hearing in the range of his voice? " LOL!!!
Janetr Oh my goodness - your granddaughter and her date are a lovely young couple. Ah, youth! The dress is so pretty and she looks fantastic.
Sue It's exhilarating to get rid of junk, isn't it? Yay for you!
Becca Love the Little House on the Prairie look. Very becoming.
RE Hugs & more hugs back at ya!
Heather Thanks for the Bea fix. I adore her.
Love to all,

Okay ladies, what do you all know about HIVES? I've never experienced this until last night welts appear all over my torso, feet and palms, yikes!!! Luckily I had one Benadryl tablet on hand and after 45 minutes I had some relief. What in the world was that???
I am off on my road trip and will catch up later tonight. You are one terrific group of strong women and so glad I found you!
NYKAREN1 -
Good Morning Ladies!
Thanks again for the support!
iPad malfunctioning, UGH!! Have to check in via phone. If I can't fix it I will have to visit the Apple Store tomorrow after work. But that's OK because I can incorporate a walk around the mall.
Lost a fraction of a pound today!! All time, all time low! Expect to gain today as I will be meeting someone for lunch today (a date, but don't expect too much) and regardless of how carefully I choose I always gain the next day unless I only have water. I suspect it is the sodium.
Supposed to be in the 60's today and sunny. A real Spring day, The birds are already singing up a storm.
Love and hugs to everyone!

Popping in to say I probably won't be popping in for a while. I keep forgetting how much time grandchildren take! My back is unfortunately not cooperating. I guess it's mad at me for what I did to it Friday morning.
When I met them yesterday evening, grandson Leo said he'd seen me from the plane when I was driving to the airport on a snowmobile. Of course whoever he saw, it wasn't me. No way I could get five people, three suitcases, four backpacks and a satchel home on a snowmobile. No, I was driving the "car". When granddaughter Juno saw it, she went bug-eyed :noway: and said she'd never ridden in a car that big before. It's a Toyota Land Cruiser and really not all that big.
/Penny, focusing on just being Gramma at the North Pole4 -
Penny - enjoy your grands! We hope to see ours here in a couple weeks.
JanetR - your granddaughter looks truly lovely - she's a charmer.
Heather - Bea's obviously quite proud of herself, and good for her! Love that face.
Chris - Your strength is awe-inspiring, and inspirational in a lot of ways. You're an amazing woman. I'm proud to say I know you.
That's accurate for all of you, actually. This thread is a continual wellspring of hope, support and examples of who I want to be when I grow up. Since I'm 57, I should probably start looking into doing that soon.
After much back and forthing, the time between my two jobs is going to be used for a short vacation. Corey can fit in a PT appointment at the beginning of the week on April 17 or 18, and then another at the end of the week the following week--and he faithfully does his hourly exercises, so they're pretty pleased with his progress. Next X-rays are May 15, to see if that bone's knit itself like it should, and then, fingers crossed, he can go back to work by mid-June or so.
So, since the 19th is my last day at the paper, we're going to take off on the 20th and drive over to see the grands--who are at Ft. Polk, Louisiana, with their mama on a 90-day temporary duty (about a 10-hour drive). My apologies for the language, but before the crapweasel sperm donor takes our eldest grandson off for the summer to whatever cave that troll exists in the rest of the year, we wanted to go see them, get a little fishing time in for Grandpa Corey with the boy. And a little Gramily time with both for me...
Then we've got reservations up in Arkansas at a lodge on Lake Hamilton. Three days of "us" time and some driving around the area to get a good look in the springtime at the place we eventually plan to move. Won't be moving any time soon, but then, the world never works on my timeframe. I am an impatient soul, though. Have resigned myself to at least a few more summers in the blast furnace that is West Texas, and then we'll see. I will, at least, be busy once I start my new job May 1.
Working part-time at the paper, now that my energy levels are back, leaves me way too much time to fret over Corey's progress with the wrist healing. But, I'm painting, which is good for my soul, and I'll post a pic eventually, once I get it where I want.
Love y'all,
Lisa in West Texas4
