Lanette - Weight loss after menopause - slowly; and, I have found that one week out of the month (or every 4th one) I feel bloated, like I did when I was having my monthly cycle. I don't take any hormones; because I'd get awful! From age 35 (when I had a total hysterectomy) until maybe mid-50's I did not have a problem with weight; but it was like my 55th birthday I had gained 15lbs; then I was putting on 1 - 1 1/2 lbs. a month after that until 2 years; but, when I hit 199lbs; I drew out my claws and dug in. I was determined to lose all this 'extra' I had on me. When I was "Lithium Toxic" I lost about 40 lbs in 3 weeks. I'd get up on the scale at the hospital and just thought they were wrong. No mirrors where I was; and, none full-length. I aim to get back to 145lbs and no higher than 150lbs as my goal. Right now I am 160.5lbs.

Machka – gorgeous beach photo! Sorry to hear about your back and hope it gets resolved quickly, sounds like walking it out helped. I have to realize it’s fall in OZ! Winter is around the corner. If we have a hot summer, we’ll look forward to some nice snowy photos from you in a few months.
****Those of you who lost weight during and/or after menopause…. I’d love to hear your stories if you wish to share and also tips on maintenance --- what is working for you? Several of you are already sharing and it’s much appreciated. ******
I do like living near beaches. I spent much of my life in the middle of Canada without much in the way of beaches around, so this is still kind of novel for me.
And yes, winter starts June 1 here. But we won't likely get much snow. Our weather is similar to the Pacific Northwest in North America. Winters are chilly and rainy and windy. We will get snow on the top of the local mountain and maybe once a winter we'll get snow further down. Last winter, on one day, we had snow all the way down to the beach, but that was really unusual, and only lasted for the morning.
I've been in perimenopause since about 2011 (according to my Gynaecologic Oncologist). I gained weight in 2012 during an 8-month round-the-world trip and then continued to gain gradually during the unsettled year or so after the trip. But in early 2015, things had finally settled, so I lost the weight and I've been maintaining since.
I haven't reached menopause yet ... this perimenopause business seems to drag on forever!!4 -

Pip- Happy Birthday to Floyd! I hope he enjoys his special day!

Hello all!
Mary, Janet & Barbie Amazing transformations! Awesome!!
It gives me more reason to keep going on my transformation!!
Janet Mia is the cutest little baby!
I forget how little babies are.
Pip Happy Birthday Floyd!!
Becca Happy to hear the bathroom is clean! It's always a chore. My DH decided to use the guest bath which
I claimed but now he uses both. I don't mean to use it as so much as to shave and blow dry his hair. So I never know which one to head into!! LOL!! I leave a can of Clorox wipes on the counter for quick clean ups.
I got up early and showered and washed my hair then put the ever tortuous compression stocking on! It hurts to put it on due to the strength of the fabric and having to pull and tug to get it straight. It goes up over my knee and there can't be any wrinkles left in it. However, it has helped the swelling go down.
My DH and went to church and then out to lunch. I was dying for a good hamburger so we went to a new Hardee's that just opened. They cook their burgers by char-broiling them and they were good. I just a hamburger (no cheese) with ketchup and pickle, but no fries!
I was thinking of my mother and sister today. It depresses me to no end! Some of you may remember that DM lived with us last year. After only 6 months she started acting odd and became reclusive and would stay in her room most if the time. She made casual threats to my DH and the dog. Then I had back surgery and we flew my sister (DS) from Vegas to Arkansas to help. Wasn't much help, but DS and DM made secret plans to go to Vegas. A few months later, DM flew to Vegas to stay with DS and her daughter.
My aunt let me know that they left Vegas and were on their way back to Arkansas.
DM not DS ever tell me what was going on. They went to Texas first to look for an apartment to share in the Austin area, but they found out quickly the rents have skyrocketed up! So they came back to Arkansas. Since DM had threatened my DH that he would "lose everything" we decided we need to consult an attorney. We found an elder law attorney and he told us that we shouldn't let either one back in our house. So we took his advice and sent my DS a letter by email and text. Last November they both showed up to move DM's belongings out. (A whole house full) They moved to an apt uptown. Relief!
A week ago I received a text message that was a receipt for $80 in a town south of us. I called the phone # and it was a locksmith. He told me it was for rekeying my DM's new house.
I was shocked! New house? Even if there were problems I would think they would at least tell me they were moving.
My aunt message me again to let me know my DS was traveling again. I assume back to Vegas? She left an 88 yo woman alone in a new town? She can still drive but doesn't have any hearing.
The reason I know she's alone because DS sent DM a note via messenger saying she was checking in. D***b sister didn't realize she sent it as a 3-way message.
I don't know. I'm just venting tonight.
I used to be on DM bank accts but I'm afraid that is changed and DS will drain them dry.
My aunt says "Be happy! They're happy!!" My aunt is my dad's sister and was 15 when I was born. Sorry for the long story!
Good night!

Lanette, my girls bought me the Aleve TENS unit. It cost about $50 and they got it at Walmart but you can find it anywhere. But I knew exactly where to put it. I helped to get me up and walking but after I went to physical therapy and a industrial strength TENS unit was used on me then my ALEVE unit didn't help much. But it sure helped at first. It comes with I think 2 sets of pads but I found some generic pads on Amazon that were just find.
WOW, church attendance was down today. But they missed some good music!!!! I jsut wish they wouldn't pick music form the Baptist Hymnal that I had never heard before!!!! Well, I guess I learned a new song. I have a feeling that it was an old song that I just had never heard of before. Today there must have been some sort of bikers rally in town and they all arrived while we were in church. The street our church is on leads to a big park here in Evansville and that's where the rally was. But all morning during church you could here these big motorcycles roaring down the street.
Michele, my rescue was not an abused animal. She was from a rescue but she didn't come with any history. She has never acted abused. But the ones Michelle fosters are usually the abused ones. And she is usually a foster failure. She isn't being very lucky with her present foster. He has a lot of issues with her not being in his sight. Makes it interesting going to the bathroom. Sound familiar to when our kids were babies?
We pruned my azalea today. We watched some videos, got advice from a good friend of Michelle's and then went to it. I looks sad now. I just told her that if it doesn't come back in the spring it's OK. I regret not having it cut completely out 2 years ago. But yet I have enjoyed seeing the new growth that the sun gave it. /the bushes we had cut down around it had crowded it so much the poor thing had no chance to grow. It had looked dead for about a week but it had one flower on it today and I put it in Michelle's hair. Don't know what I would do without that girl.

Call me crazy but I love to see other people happy and succeeding .
Good Evening My Dear Friends,
Sue, it sounds like your non-boring time was not only tiring but a fun couple of days.
M, not only are you biking a very long distance but I see it’s in the mountains as well. I want some of your energy! (later) What a beautiful beach.
Sarah, I do hope the worst of the bad weather is over for you. Glad you have stayed safe.
Lisa, glad you are finally feeling better. You and I know this is a safe place to discuss “anything”, which is absolutely wonderful. Sometimes it’s just nice to get things off your chest. Wishing the best for your DS. (((Hugs)))
Chris, good for you on keeping your eating under control when out in the social situations. It certainly takes some thought and intention.
Jagbug, good for you on the WW thing. You can do this and we are here to support you.
Lillian, hello and welcome back. Do tell what you have been up to??
Heather, glad the stickers are working for you. Congrats on keeping the alcohol limits down. I know I should follow your example but not there yet.
Pip, do tell Floyd I sent Happy Birthday greetings.
Lanette, that was interesting therapy you told us about. I’ve been to a number of PT and chiropractors but have never had that one.
Janetr, will you go to your DD’s wedding or will it just be the two of them? I know you are proud of her accomplishments. Mia is just a doll. And YOU look Marvelous!!!!!!
Dana, sorry to hear about the family problems. It is amazing what some family members do to others and for no apparent reason. Hope your mom is okay.
to all the Newbies. Come often and join in the chat. This thing works!! Please sign your post with what you want to be called. It makes it easier for us to respond to you. Also a location is great, be it specific or general. We are happy to have you join us.
My DD has made it into the edge of the state so tomorrow she will arrive home. I’m so excited to see her and just hope and pray that we all get along well. It can be tense having even your own daughter move in when it’s just been the two of you for over 25 years. She is not always the most congenial person at best but I love her dearly and have missed her something terrible.
Sending love, good thoughts and sunshine to all of you.
I Love you

Yes ... Tasmania is VERY hilly. It's really hard to find anywhere flat to ride and that's one of the reasons I came to MFP and lost the weight. I was heavier when we moved here and I struggled getting up all the hills. But now, with less weight to haul around, it is easier.

Hello Lovely Ladies - hope you all had a fun and productive weekend.
Pip - Happy birthday to Floyd - aren't goldens the best? I used to have 2 of them. Now we have a black lab. He just turned 8 on May 2nd. I hope Floyd has many more happy and healthy birthdays.
So I started my new diabetes medication this weekend. Side effects can be nausea, vomiting, diarrehea (sp?), slower emptying of your stomach and weight loss. I feeling ok but am plain old not hungry. I have lost interest in food - at least for the last 2 days. Been kinda having to encourage myself to eat. It has been really easy to keep my caloric intake in check - not at all a feeling I am familiar with. I wonder if it's because I've been eating low carb meals and my blood sugar is better under control. When blood sugar is better under control maybe you aren't starving to death every 2 hours? I don't know. But I'll certainly take it!!
Spent all of Fri night making stuffed cabbage but they were the tastiest recipe for stuffed cabbage I've ever found. Very time consuming dish to make however. Sat we went out to lunch ate the most boring bland cajun chicken salad. Why do so many restaurants serve watery lettuce? They need a salad spinner! Next a stop at the nursery and greenhouse - just a wee bit too cold to plant yet but definitely whet my appetite for new plants! Anyone here a greenthumb?? Ended the evening watching DH perform in a musical. He and my step daughter did an amazing job. Today I (finally) put out the spring/summer home decorations and we got all the Christmas decorations sorted & stored back in the crawl space. Add in the walk I took the dog on and 30 min on the stationary bike and it was a very active day!
Gathered some stuff to give to Goodwill too!
DH is going out of town tomorrow for a few days so it'll be just me and the boys.
Night all

Ladies, the weight loss stories and before/after photos are great. Very motivating!
Joyce and all, thanks for the TENS information. Be interesting to see how this works!
I found a photo of strain/counterstrain therapy- I think the guy in the pictured has a back problem, the therapist positions that leg so the back/sciatica doesn't hurt anymore then holds it for several minutes.
My back feels better just looking at this, lol.
Have a great week!

Dana, thank you, Mia is my great-granddaughter. She was born about 6 weeks early and was in NICU for a few days and on oxygen for the first four weeks. She's doing great now.

DJ, Janetr #1 We definitely are planning on going to Vegas for the wedding. Steve has not been married before, even though he has the grown daughter. There will actually be quite a few family and friends there. Our only problem would be if Jack would end up having anything more than a stent when they do the angiogram. And thank you on the pictures.

Dana – Feel your pain, honey. Been 10 years since DH’s daughter has spoken to us. We talked to an Elder Abuse Attorney and he agreed that what she had done fell under the laws to protect older people from being taken advantage of; but, at $500 an hour, wasn’t worth trying to make her put everything back into the estate so it could be probated. Karma has visited her once before; believe it will probably happen again. She took ALL the family pictures. I did write her and ask that she please send some to us; but, no response, and I haven’t held my breath over it either. Just sad that we have a granddaughter who just turned 11 and we have not seen nor heard from her since his Mother’s funeral. She’s probably still ‘fuming’ because after the viewing the kids who Nana had sat for, for years put on a supper at her house and they had workers digging a pool (from the $$ she weaseled out of her Nana’s account). Her husband was standing a step below us when I turned to DH and said, ‘now isn’t THAT the height of disrespect … to have workers here at a time like this’. He turned around to see who had said that and then went over and told them to pack up and they would reschedule. She comes screaming and cursing out the back door about it would be late in the summer before they would reschedule them. Sorry Charlie; or is that Karma (or her 1st husband)? You don’t need that ‘bad blood’ in your life. Just smile and go on. We all vent from time-to-time here. We feel safe in doing so. I know when I am in a ‘low moment’ it still bothers me, what she did – but she is a lot more like her own Mama and she always did what was in ‘her best interest’. She did not like that DH married me; and, I was only 13 years old when they got a divorce so I wasn’t the problem. She has always been sneaky; so I don’t want her back in my DH’s life. We have 2 sons of our own and he has specifically written her out of his Will. But, I am not going to be the one to notify her if he were to pass away before I do.
HA! HA! My middle sister once made a remark in a 3-way email that had actually only meant to be sent to oldest sister. I think she was a ‘little red-faced’ when I ‘responded to it’. It is sometimes difficult to be the baby of 3 girls. Seems like there is always 2 against 1 most of the time. And not always the same 2 against 1.
Joyce – Our azaleas look awful. I’d really like for DH to cut them back drastically so they will bush out. Right now they look bare with just a few leaves at the top. But, he is so afraid that they won’t come back and we won’t have any shrubbery. Oh well.
Pip – Happy Birthday to Floyd … and many more!
I made a ‘bread pudding’ that would have put any diabetic into sugar overload! I found a new recipe that has less sugar and more bread. Next time I get in the mood, I will make the ‘new’ recipe for DH. Gave a good deal of it to DOS and he ‘loved’ it as did our DMGD; ‘rich’, ‘rich’, and ‘double rich’.
Has anyone done the recipe deal on MFP? It will allow you to enter the ingredients; but, won’t allow you to save the instructions. So, I have culled through 3 years’ worth of magazines and now have 4 binders full of recipes. Not that I will ever make some of them; but, I thought I would try to make 2 or 3 a week. Marking the ones we like or ones that have low caloric count and still taste good. I’ll just have to make a shopping list to make sure I have all the ingredients before I start trying to make one. I was going to surprise Louis with the ‘bread pudding’ but they I had to tell him about it because when I called he said, ‘well you can just get it tomorrow’. NOPE! Here is your ‘surprise’.
Renee – Some years my thumb is ‘green’ and some years it just turns black and falls off. I am thinking this year will be a ‘green’ one for me. I have a greenhouse and now a glassed-in porch (but, haven’t yet gotten the door hung). I want to take a broomstick to DH; but, I have to wait for him to get up off his @$$ and do it. I’ve already talked with the A/C man about what it will take to heat and cool it. With the weather we’ve had, I have left the French door open. Maybe he will take a hint.
Lanette – One thing I have started doing, is to put my car seat in a straighter position with the front of the seat ‘up’ some. It is training me to not ‘slouch’ when I get tired. I think it has improved my posture a lot as well and my back and sciatica isn’t screaming nearly as much.
Hi to all the newbies; prayers for those that need it; and, kudos for all who have gone in the direction they have wanted to whether it is weight-wise, career-wise, or family-wise.

Morning, I'm wide awake and it is way too early. Ah well, coffee and mfp is a nice way to start any day.
I was social and happy yesterday, brunch in NYC can be pricey and over the top but I took my time with the menu and chose avocado toast -delightful and no alcohol!! After my friend's show, which was adorable, I did have 2 glasses of red wine which is a lot for me, and stayed away from most of the nibbles except for olives- I would say I stayed in pretty good control though one glass would have been a better choice
Am planning a simpler food day, and have begged off going out to dinner before our evening concert- planning on sticking to that for two reasons--don't want to spend any $$ and don't really want to eat restaurant food again. I am getting under control and restaurant food can really send me off the rails, better to just stay out of it and pack smart choices.
Hoping for nicer spring weather, cold and dreary here which is a bummer but nowhere near as serious as other parts of US, so I will stop whining!

Morning all, didn't catch up last night so a lot to get through this morning. So much going on I am hopeless at remembering but I think Lanette asked about my gallbladder thing, I've had the ultrasound and this next bit is the dreaded camera down the throat, even the thought makes me gag.
Another pleasant day in prospect and DH and I are planning to jump the local train to the coast, it doesn't cost us anything as we have pensioner's passes.
Mia is gorgeous
Happy birthday to Floyd

Morning Ladies~
trying to gulp down a cup of tea..then wash my hair and go get Taliah on the bus.. today will be busy at work.. I am assisting today and the Dr has a double root canal, she takes an hour and a 1/2 to do one ,I missed lunch friday because of one, and will have to bring stuff to snack on as I know I will miss it again today..
Claudia the Office Manager wanted each of us to write down what we do at work.. mine was rather extensive. She also ticked off Mary by taking her responsibilities for our clock in and paychecks away.. and was ticked off.
Claudia is my daughters age, and I am a bit worried about how she will run this office..but I need a job so I just stay quiet and do my work..4 -
At this morning's weigh in: 199.8. I haven't seen onederland in years. Hi Re, let's do coffee!!
Hope everyone has a great day. I am working from home and then driving to see a concussion specialist. They are located where our Ottawa Senators NHL hockey team plays, in the Canadian Tire Centre. Funny and makes sense.
As I look outside, it is snowing, in May?? What the ~€#*}~€,'f???

Haven't checked the forum in a couple of days, so will work my way through slowly.
Katla: The price of the glasses and checkup sound like highway robbery! It doesn't seem right that essential medical items should be so expensive!
Janetr Hope the sinus infection has improved!
Jane in Kent Hope you get some relief from the knee pain! Your daughter's hair is beautiful!
Heather: Very familiar with "Vin Jaune"; one of my best friends is from the area in the Jura mountains where it is produced.
Machka: Your cycling is inspirational!
Lisa: Beautiful car!
Mia: Congratulations on making the 5K run!
The second round of the French elections were last night. We have been getting together with friends for years to celebrate the results when they are posted at 8 pm. Our views cover a wide political spectrum, so there is usually someone who is happy. I was pleased that I was able to make some good choices and still come in under my calorie goal for the day. Asking for half a glass of wine each time helped a lot!

Whoot! Sarah- Hands in the air! Hello ONederland! Yes, YOu and Re doing the happy dance! congrats!
Love all of the before and after pictures! Very motivating!
Pip-Happy Birthday to Floyd! He is a pretty boy!
Karen- Mia is a doll baby! She is getting so big! What do you mean your daughter will be her new grandmother? Is she going to be close by and fill in for you?
Barbie- Thank you! I will be sure to let you know when the book arrives!
Mia- Congrats on finishing your race! And your time is awesome! You are absolutely glowing in that finish line pic!
I got a lot done this weekend and it felt really good! The lawn mowed again (this will be my weekly weekend job), clippings raked up, a few weeds pulled, (the yard work and grocery shopping was all I got done on Saturday). Then on Sunday I got my regular housework done (floors swept and mopped, rugs vacuumed, dusting done, I pulled everything out away from the baseboards in all of the rooms and put down some home defense (being invaded by sugar ants and spiders), then I got started on my DYS's room and got that cleared out (Becca- you inspired me with the purge of your son's room). Anyway, I spent five hours on the inside of my house! It seemed a shame, because it was a beautiful sunny day (albeit a cold one), but it had to be done. So, it got done and I felt really great when I sat down at the end of the night. Was in a really crappy mood on Friday; it is amazing what a little scrubbing will do to your mood!
Saturday, I was able to viber with DD and baby Joaquin (Viber is like Skype). Joaquin was very animated and active. She and I sound very much alike, so every time I talked to him he would perk up and smile and coo! Very sweet. I was telling DD what I had accomplished that day and talking about the stuff that is on my to do list for the summer (repair the picnic table, powerwash and restain the outside stair well to the basement, other miscellaneous tasks that require power tools and my DD said, "You are kind of like a renaissance woman!" I laughed and told her not to romanticize being a work horse. But, it is one of the upsides to having a hubby with limited capabilities due to illness; you do learn to use tools and do things that would otherwise fall into his category of chores. But renaissance woman? Hardly! ttfn xoxoxo KJ

Kelly That adorable Mia is Janetr's great-grandchild. She is a doll.
Karen in Virginia3 -
Did 10 min of a Carb Burner DVD, held my plank for 2 min 50 sec, then planning to take the extremepump class. The plan for tomorrow is to do a 20-40-60 workout on the treadmill. That's where you run for 20 seconds, walk fast for 40, slower for 60.
Lenora - I'm thinking that the people would sign the platter with a pencil and then I'd have someone else go over the signatures in paint. I don't know of any pen/pencil that won't burn off in the kiln. Then I'd clear glaze the plate and give it to them. I don't have a steady enough hand to go over the signatures. I'm thinking that people would sign the bisq with #2 pencils. If I had an etching tool there, someone might walk away with it and hurt themselves (at least that's my fear). I had this scissor holder from MIL and one from me that I never used so I gave one to Denise and then other to Jess. I showed it to the gal at ceramics and she said that the flowers in the corner were decals that were put on and then shellacked over because you can't put the decals in the kiln as they will burn off in such a high temp. I'm going to run this idea by Michele.
The other thing that I'm looking for (but I haven't found someone around here who does this) is when we were married, someone made a placque for us with our names and the date. It was painted, then the decals applied and the names painted, then shellacked. I would think this would be really neat, but no one at ceramics knows anyone who does this sort of thing. I asked at AC Moore and they don't know anyone either. I'm guessing that if I ask at Michaels and Hobby Lobby I'll get the same answer. Guess I can try Hobby Lobby. Hey, I was just thinking, I wonder if there's someone down in FL who does it. That'd be a good reason why we'd HAVE to go down there. I'd love to go, Vince isn't so crazy about it.
The placq looks like this:
Hmm...says that the file is in the post, just don't know where. Well, you'll know it when you see it.
As I recall, I think I only paid something like $40 or $50 for my trampoline. But, remember, I got it at Play It Again Sports. It was in new condition, tho
I've used the recipe maker here, the counts came out pretty accurate
janetr - remember, too that in order to keep your CPA license, there are classes you must take (which aren't cheap, but is also a business expense). That's the reason Vince "retired" his CPA license. He was working in IT, so he couldn't even take the expense of the classes off his taxes. The classes are expensive and time consuming. The IRS is constantly changing it's laws so you do need to keep up. But I wish her the absolute best. If it's something she loves, she'll do well.
Becca - I could use a clean bath...just sayin'
machta - you don't need to tell me that the perimenaupause stage lasts forever. I think I was probably in it for a few years. I'd go almost a year with no period and then, bammm....
Dana - isn't it amazing what family members can do?
Renee - a lady at ceramics made stuffed cabbage the other day. I tried one because I hadn't had one in a long time. But she had so much rice in it, I couldn't get over it! Very little meat, mostly rice. And not very stuffed at all. I was a bit disappointed, but oh well....
Loved all the photos
Bowling after exercise, ceramics tonight and then mahjongg.
