Health insurance is NOT health care and the burdensome regulations are just raising the cost of care because of the paperwork and interference.
I agree.
Heather I buy vinegar by the gallon because I like to put a cup in my final rinse water in the wash. It helps get out the excess soap. My towels come our nice and soft because of this with no fabric softener. There is no vinegar smell. It disappears when they are dried. I also use it with baking soda to keep pipes clean.

Pip I think the coral color is nice. A nice contrast.
My DH says the green is first place and green design is second place.
What does your DH say?

sue congrats on hosting 2! Events at home, this gives me anxiety as well. Though I enjoy the cooking and folks really enjoy my cooking I am anxious before and wired afterwards. Just made a delicious peach cobbler and that's my vote for desert for your book club!! It is so delicious, summery and a retro dessert, can be served warm with ice cream or not.
Katie what a very generous gift you gave by planning the service. I can understand not eating before hand, you were under a lot of pressure and sounds like the family and others there found solace in the service.
Well I surprisingly and happily found a pair of dress sandals (Skechers) that are fancy and don't hurt!! Going shopping with DD has always been a treat for both of us, we aren't marathon shoppers but have found small bursts of bargain hunting fun. she found the shoes and they were only $24, She has both grandmothers' bargain hunting genes, Which makes me proud.
Have a great Monday, I'm off to declutter, garden and exercise--I'll let you know how the interview goes tomorrow.

Thanks for all your votes. That was just my first look at color choices0

machka I really loved your album in BC! Lake Louise is a beautiful aqua color and the Chateau was awesome.
I liked that little house with the tall chimney! I could live there!!
Margaret I put vinegar in my wash also. It freshens the towels nicely. If you have cotton fabrics, wash them in vinegar to set the colors before using soap. I found that out when I bought my last quilt. I think I put in 2 cups into a large load to set the color.

Machka: I love BC and am sorry to hear they have fires again this year. I hope your family is safe. :flowerforyou:
Heather: It is so wonderful that you were able to help your DH with his panic attack.
Pip: Be sure to show us your final color choices, and take your time choosing what you like the best.
I had a glass or two of wine at a community gathering yesterday and spent all night in the bathroom. I guess wine is not fine for my system. I quit drinking along the MFP journey and have done a little dabbling in recent weeks. I won't be choosing to dabble with wine unless I have a major memory loss.

Hey ladies! Isn't this the cutest use for a vintage apron??!!
Becca7 -
just discovered how to make 2 ingredient chocolate ice cream....blend frozen bananas in a food processor or blender then add tbsp. of nutella. wow is it delicious! You can eat it right away while it's soft or refreeze--it is sooooo yummy. I suppose you could leave out the nutella and just eat banana ice cream, just as delish.

NY Karen - good luck with the interview! Love the banana ice cream recipe idea. Bet a person could come up with all kinds of healthy things to add to the bananas. Nutella sounds super fine tho.
Chris - sounds like you had a wonderful time at the Cape. It's tough that you and your sis came to a disagreement on the house there and you no longer have access, but it's great you have loving friends you can visit. Plus, you don't have to worry about taxes, maintenance, insurance, etc. I sometimes wonder if we own a house or if it owns us! Geeze.
Becca - adorable photo of you and your sis. Loved that western store! And Pendleton!! I have an old blanket tucked away in the cedar chest to keep it from the moths. Cute idea using an old apron for kitchen window curtain. I love the glimpses of your "dream house" furnishings!
Lenora - the local tour company has another trip booked to Seattle to see the Terra Cotta Warriors on August 23rd. I called and left a message, hope they have room on the bus! $89 for everything except lunch sounds like a good deal and I don't have to drive up there or find parking. Crossing fingers it works out.
ON another note, I was just thinking about all the good things that have happened for me healthwise since I joined MFP last December.
1.) Quit drinking alcohol. I loved beer and decided to give it up - didn't like the calories or the constant gastritis it caused. I too was on Nexium and Prilosec for a while. Don't need it anymore! Woo hoo! Wouldn't mind having a nice Bloody Mary if the occasion arises, but no more beer. Haven't drank wine in years but sometimes cook with it- not sure I could drink it again. Sometimes DH has a glass of "dago red" wine and it doesn't even smell good.
2.) Found a love for strength training. I had no idea what it was all about. Thanks again Barbie for the book that opened my eyes: Strong Women Stay Young. I've been at it for 2 months now, hope I can continue it for a long time.
3.) Off blood pressure meds! The only thing I take now is a mild antihistamine every night with my vitamins and hopefully once more of the cat hair gets swept up, I'll be able to stop taking that stuff when hay fever season is over.
4.) Easily getting from 8,000 to 10,000 steps every day. Taking that puppy out for "walks" many times a day is helping. I'll take it.
BUT I need Pip or someone to put the boot to me....I still am eating way too much sugary stuff after supper. I took my fasting blood sugar when I got up this morning.... 121!! For gosh sakes!!! Enough is enough, I hope this will kick me into sanity.
OK ladies, that's the latest. Before I close, here's a photo of part of my garden. You can see three tomato plants and a few red beets and carrots. Blue wildflowers to the right of the tomatoes with lots of Lucifer Crocosmia that's taller than me.
The place is alive with hummingbirds, honey bees and bumble bees.

I had a wonderful time with DOGD shopping. We did go to three consignment stores and she did a fantastic job of trying things on and picked up some great pieces. We did go to Walmart, at her request, and picked up some summer shoes and underwear. She was happy and so was I. She managed to have some money to bring home and put away for her next shopping trip. The extra good news was I managed to lose .4 pounds!
Pip: I like Kirby’s choice.
Lenore: It sounds like he gave you a metered inhaler which costs considerably more than the non-metered one. If you need to get another tell him you want the generic non-metered one.
Chris: Many years ago my mother failed to send me a birthday card, did not call, and did send my expected monetary gift. When I asked her about it she said that she thought I had decided not to celebrate birthdays anymore as I had not sent her a card for her birthday. I have happily passed this lesson on to my children.

Lanette – I hope it works out for you to go see the Chinese Warrior Exhibit. I don’t know how much it cost when I went because my BFF made all the arrangements and paid for the tickets, and she drove to Birmingham, AL and it took us ½ the morning to get there, and we looks through the exhibit – it was WONDERFUL because you could go at your own speed and have earphones, so you listen to what they are telling you about the different stations and you can go through it at your own speed. It was, in my opinion, total awesome. I hope you can get on the tour bus. Any of you living near Seattle – this is a ‘don’t miss show’.
I am a ‘Bloody Mary’ girl, when I drink and they make them. I think the BEST one I have ever had was at “Rue 64” in Natchez, MS. Sometimes when we are on vacation I will have a flavored martini. My sister order a ‘dirty’ one, straight up; and, I took a sip and about ‘spewed it across the table’. Way too strong and ‘’tasted’ like nothing I have ever had. But, she drinks a lot. From beer, wine, and liquor (mixed drinks). I will drink about ½ of a frozen Margarita when we go to the Mexican Restaurant. We have one here, in Dawson, which does a good business.
Last weekend when Taylor was home we went to 1800 in Americus. They are always crowded and we did not leave early enough and it was crowded. The first time we went the owner brought a shot of “1800’ tequila, some salt, and some sliced limes. Louis did not want his, and DDnL#1 drank it, too. By the time we got home, she was feeling no pain because not only had she drank hers and Louis’ she had ordered a ‘big’ (medium) drink. They’ve changed their glasses, so a small really looks like a medium and on up. We saw Chase’s parents at the local Mexican Restaurant and John had a ‘large’ one – you would have to hold it with 2 hands, it was that big.
I just LOVE your garden - so 'put together' my flower bed looks like I just threw bulbs and seeds out there "Willy Nilly."
Michele – I know I would not be nearly as pleasant to the ‘groom’s mama’ about ‘taking over your duties as the bride’s mother’. I sure hope that Denise did not order her wedding gown through David’s Bridal (a ‘chain’ store) that went belly up. Lord, I can understand how that must make the young women who had already purchased their dresses only to find the store locked an no way to get to them because of the bankruptcy. You know they had to know it was happening. About the only way they would have had their doors locked, otherwise, would have been by the IRS for non-payment of taxes.
Yeah, I'd get the 'favors' and "Whoops; I had them right there along with the other things - silly me - NOT!!!!"
I walked my @$$ off this afternoon. Up and down the really muddy, slippery, dirt road we live on with a letter to each neighbor about trying to move over just a little bit – out of the ruts’ that have been made by someone earlier had made. Everybody, including us have a pick-up they drive; so what do they do? They follow the ruts made by the first one out. So by the time I get ready to leave the ruts are more than 5” deep with big globs of mud that drags under my car. If I attempt to straddle them and a tire hits the globs, it pushes me into the rut (only one side) and I am slipping and sliding the entire mile until I get to the paved road. There is a wallowed out spot that stays full of water until the county decides to fill it in. They need to bring a culvert and put it under that portion of the road, so that the water would run off the road and into a ditch. Gee, when they come grade the road, they have the blade in the wrong direction and we’ve never had standing water in front of our property. The replaced the culvert when I found a piece of the rusted out culvert that I ‘knew’ was there and they broke it when they ‘ditched’ the road. The Commissioners are all men, so they don’t understand making ‘mud pies’. There is a certain consistency to make patties and have the stick together. Our DYS makes roads as a part of his job as a Wildlife Biologist who manages a ‘hunting preserve’. He is always fussing, when he comes home, how bad the road is and how it is slanted the wrong direction in every part that it floods. Our last Commissioner was a former ‘roads maintenance manager’ in another county north of here. He came out and met with me and the current one; and, told him ‘what needed to be done’ so the road would be passable. The ditched it, they crowned it, and they packed it and it was ‘wonderful’ for about a year. Then the ‘prison trustee’ who oversaw this being done by other prisoners decided he did not want to wait the 2 months he still had on his sentence and hauled @$$. Of course, they found him and he lost his ‘privileges’ as ‘trustee’. Then they stopped grading all of them for over a year while they built a ‘sports’ park for the town. Actually, they don’t really have any sort of ‘sports’ program; but, it is ‘state of the art’. The Head Commissioner had ‘donated’ the land to be use up to 100 years, at which time it would revert back to his family. I’m sure he is getting a ‘big’ tax deduction for that one. When we first moved out here, we have thought about finding an old farm house and having it moved out her to remodel. There was an old house on the property but it was way too close to the road. So the guys took it down piece-by-piece. We found one that was in pretty good shape, then found out it belonged to this man. He would not sell it (again, because if there was a structure on the property the taxes would be less by claiming homeowners exemption. Then he allowed a friend of our to take it apart and move it to the land he had as a hunting lodge and then built a ‘stable’ (looks like a horse stable … with no horses ever in it). Politics – SNAFU – Situation Normal, All F***** Up! This man was the Head Commissioner for 40 years, and bragged about ‘he’ had the county’s best interest at hand. NO, he didn’t – when you went to a Commissioners’ meeting it was almost as if 3 of the ones had gotten together with him and had their own mini-meeting and had already taken a vote. He ‘thought’ he had the Sheriff in his pocket; but, he went rouge on him. In Georgia, the Sheriff is normally the most powerful person in the county (provided the Commissioners agree what he job entails). We have 159 counties in the state and only 3 (including this one) has the Sheriff’s Office collecting past-due taxes. He had not paid his garbage fees for two years after he won office. We had a commissioner 2 before this one who made him pay it. $75 for 24 months isn't not ‘chunk change’ especially when every property owner in the county has to pay it.
OK, off my rant.
I can already feel the pain from walking. I might not be able to move tomorrow.

It wasn't David's Bridal that closed, it was Alfred Angelo. David's Bridal actually is offering discount prices to brides affected by the Alfred Angelo mess.
It's 95 outside right now so I'm waiting for night to go run. I figure it will be cooled off enough around 11 pm..... maybe... It was 78 when I woke up so I'm not so sure it will ever be cool enough. It's the humidity that's killing me though.... if it starts to rain I'll pop out and run in the rain (if it's not lightning), at least it will be cool humidity and my sweat will be washed away. Week three of marathon training.... going strong!

lannette what an inspiring list of all you've achieved and learned since joining! Awesome
Well I just had the interview. I was myself, and feel positive about the experience. OF course, that means diddly, The results are out of my control, I will know soon enough if I get to the next round, (conducting audition) but I realize that I really would like this side gig. I feel very lucky that it is just that, a side gig, it wouldn't be full time, just Sunday rehearsals and 3 concerts a year. So now I just have to leave it alone, what will be will be.

Excellent!
I was put onto Nexium a few years ago by a well-meaning Dr who was right out of med school and didn't think to check interactions with other conditions. It was completely the wrong thing for me. Since I had been on it for over a year by the time I realised what was going on, I had to wean off of it. It's a horrible drug.

Lenora - I love the SNAFU definition. Pretty accurate when it comes to some city & county government tasks! I did get booked on the Chinese Warrior tour in Seattle - it's there until Sept 4th. I think the entrance fee is normally $35 or so - $89 pays for it and the transportation, which isn't bad. I'd pay more just to not have to drive up there. My garden used to be a REAL WEEDY MESS. DH got tired of it (of course I was working, so no time to really tend to it) and brought in those chips-laid over landscape cloth a couple years ago. So now I have little teensy plots to plant things, which is fine.
DH is Mr. Neat and Tidy and he's out there right now stacking his firewood like a mason laying bricks.
Tere - I love your mom's strategy regarding birthday gifts. I've been trying to think of a way of stopping obligatory birthday and Christmas cards and $$ gifts to a few nieces and nephews who "forget" to even send us an email. This is a good solution. Glad your shopping trip with DH was a success!! She sounds like a lot of fun.
I found a good-looking meatloaf (or meatballs that I can stuff with cheese) recipe for the IP and will make it tomorrow for supper. I bought fresh mozzarella I'll stick in the center and plop them into muffin tins.
I have my bedtime snack planned.... a bit of cantaloupe, 1/2 of a low-carb muffin, and a little piece of cheese. We'll see how things look in the blood sugar department tomorrow morning. I know the last time I cut out added sugar, it was back to 100 or under within a few days.
Have a great evening, ladies!

Lanette, your list of accomplishments through MFP is so inspiring. You have a right to be proud of yourself
NYKAren, I must have missed what your audition is for. I love anything musical.
Becca, love, love, love the apron curtain. The pocket needs something special in it.
Well today hasn't been what I wanted at all. First of all the landscaping company called last week and moved the start to tomorrow. But I still thought that Michelle would be here today. She called this morning and said she had a stomach bug. I remember Saturday her asking me if I had an antacid for her to take along with her when she went to this haunted Sanitorium in Louisville, Ky. So I don't know of it is a 24 hour thug or not. So we don't even have a paint picked out. And I do t know if Charlie will go on with having cRpet installed not. He says I didn't tell him the complete price of the landscaping and has his panties in an uproar over it. We will have to pay more because we can not move the furniture and that will be an added cost. But we have done some things on our own. I got up and immediately got to cleaning my closet. I didn't clean the shelf but I bagged up some of my size medium and some of my 'what was I thinking about' clothes and took hem to Goodwill. We have swept the kitchen floor twice which means we had to move all the chairs out. We need to use the Swiffer Wet next and then will use a steam cleaner. I am going to tackle the junk drawer in the kitchen. I think Charlie and I can do the fixing of the outlets on our own but he wants Michelle here. It's always fun to sweep with the kitten. Also as I was staking my clothes on my bed, he had to get in, under, over and through the pile. I just hope Michelle is OK to at least help me pick out a paint and help us move the rest of the furniture out in the room. I do think we can paint, will just take longer. When we were taping today, I did around the bathroom door, closet door and some floor level and Charlie did one very small segment of floor level. Luckily the rest is floor level. Oh, the sanding. I won't let him do it because he will just settle to what he thinks iOS adequate. He says the paint will cover everything. Uh, no.

Call me crazy but I love to see other people happy and succeeding .
Good Evening my dear Friends,
Chris, I feel as bad for DH and/or DD if they forget my birthday as they do. So many years ago I started telling, reminding and over reminding them as to when my BD is approaching. At this point I don’t care if I get a gift or even a card but I do declare it “Queen’s Day” and expect (demand) that I be treated like Royalty. LOL It’s somewhat of a joke but it works in our family. Glad you had a grand time at the Cape.
Katla, sorry you had a problem with acid reflux. I rarely have it any more and sure don’t miss it. I do hope it was a one-time thing. ((((Hugs))))
M, that is so scary about your DH escaping the fires. I hope all your family stays safe.
NYKaren, glad you had a good time shopping with your DD. Mine is a much better bargain shopper than I am. I do well in my regular stores but not in resale shops and stores I don’t normally frequent. I do believe it’s a gift.
to all the Newbies. Come often and join in the chat. This thing works!! Please sign your post with what you want to be called. It makes it easier for us to respond to you. Also a location is great, be it specific or general. We are happy to have you join us.
I read all the posts this afternoon and the plan was to read what was written from then to now, when I got home from my meeting. The problem is, I’m exhausted and my back can’t/won’t sit in a chair any longer. So I’ll say good night for now and start again in the morning.
Sending love, good thoughts and cool sunshine to all of you.
I Love you

Hi Gals,
Just a quick note this weekend I cooked a meal for a vegan friend of mine (no meat product, no dairy, no eggs, no fish, no honey) - and I am ok with doing this but at the last moment remembered a recipe that I love it is a vegan version of Sloppy Joes, no meat it has lentils, it came out really good, a cheap stretch the budget meal, and when I put it in the recipe tool here on mfp 1/2 cup of filling was only 165! depends on what you serve it with, but I did it on 1/2 of a sour dough roll so my open face sandwich was 265, and I served it with a cabbage slaw, with a vinegarette....
I had left overs for dinner tonight

Did 10 min of Crunch Bikini Body DVD, held my plank for 2 min 51 sec, extremepump class. The plan for tomorrow is to do some HIIT. I'll have Rummikub here so I'm thinking that I should burn off extra calories.
Marclyn - that's really crazy that you need to see your doc. All those expenses don't forget his time to see you when really you don't need to be seen.
Chris - awesome pics and what a blue sky!
We got this placq for our wedding with our names and the date on it. I really liked it so I'm going to get one for Denise. Now, I admit I did tell her that I couldn't find anyone IN NORTH CAROLINA to make it. But I did find someone in Florida. Opps...bad me...I forgot to mention that part <insert wicked smile>. I'm hoping to surprise her at her shower with it. The lady who is making it just told me that she's having a hard time finding a stencil (the kind you stick on) of a bride and groom, so she asked me if this border would be OK. Hey, it has to be OK. Actually, it's really not my taste, looks too rustic. But that's keeping with Denise's theme so it'll all work out.
katla - get better fast
Regarding vinegar - if you put vinegar on a grass stain, it comes out. Now if the grass stain is really imbedded, you might have to do it twice.
tere - that's great that your gd bought things at the consignment shop!
Lenora - David's Bridal went belly up? Or was it just one store? That's where I got my gown from and I haven't had any problem. Yes, that's the store where she got her gown.
Marcelyn - thanks so much for putting my mind at ease telling me it wasn't David's Bridal that went out of business. There was a bridal store here in Charlotte that went out of business. One day gals who went to pick up their dress found the doors locked. Heartbreaking
NYKaren - keeping fingers crossed for you

Regarding birthdays ... most of my family and friends just say "Happy Birthday" to each other when Facebook reminds us. That's good enough for me!
That said, my mother will send cards to my brother and me, and I'll send cards to my parents and grandmother, but that's it. No gift/money exchange or anything like that.
Maybe it helps that we're all so scattered around the world ... it costs a fortune to mail stuff and we're all using different currencies.
Even my husband and I don't get each other gifts for birthdays, Christmas or anything. If we want or need something we get it when we want or need it. However, we usually have at least one special trip each year. This year, it was our month in Canada. We both listed off things we wanted to see and do on that trip ... and we did them. That was our Christmas, birthday, and anniversary gift to each other.2 -
