I've broken down and purchased black cohosh ... but I haven't taken any yet. Still a little concerned about the side effects. However,it is my second to last resort for all these hot flashes and night sweats.1

My front yard project is finished. The work I did was to clean all the gravel out of the center section, cover the ground with weed barrier cloth and buy a load of newer, nicer, bigger rocks to replace the gravel. I also spread bark mulch in areas around the tree, in front of the house and along both sides of the house. Jake did a lot of the rock project to help me. The house will be painted in September and new gutter installed. I'll post a picture then to show the next round of changes.

Maskca, my daughter takes flaxseed for her hot flashes with great results.
Barbie, your house and yard look great. They look like you, minimalist but lovely and very pleasant to the eye.
I am hoping our work will start tomorrow. He has said weather permitting but out heat ibexes are around 105 this week. When we had our family room redone several years ago, the guy left with no word but left all his equipment here. I left messages to his answering machine that I would leave them all on the porch for him to pick up, no questions asked. Those were in the days our shrubs were so huge anything could be hidden behind them he never did so we kept them all. One thing he left was a gravy duty fan he use to try to dry the drywall mud. I am going to put it in the garage tomorrow so the guys can have a retreat. I'll also make sure they have plenty of water but our last outdoor job brought his own. We will have to sit out on the porch every evening and water whatever he does. Michelle is feeling ok enough to come over. We will
I know out the paint first then I have a doctors appointment and her and her Dad can get started while I am gone. It's one of those appoinyptments you have to have when you sign a pain contract. I'll have to pee in a bottle. But there are other issues I need to talk to her about. I did clean out my junk drawer and the plastic 3 drawer cabinet I keep in the linen closet. The top drawer is a makeshift medical kit. I guess I could put a blood pressure cuff and my stethoscope in it. Half the kitchen is swelter real good. And my back is killing me. I am having Michelle bring over my TENS unit. Oh, I got my colonoscopy scheduled for Septemner. Now I guess I should use this time when I am in a 'do hints line you should' time to schedule my mammogram

Machka9 - It's at times like these that we are reminded of what is truly important.
My ankle is really acting up, I hope it settles down again.
Dr. wants to see me so going at 10:45, I really don't like the word imperative. I'm hoping that it is just something to do with my sugar levels. They should be getting better as I have more activity.
I think DS and DDIL are missing their boys. They are texting and calling, half the time the boys are not available.
My DS and DBIL did not like Hawaii all that much. I would like to try it out.
DH is taking the boys to Kelowna to meet their Dad. He will probably leave here on the 23rd. Ryan has a tattoo convention so about 5-6 hrs shorter for us. I hope that some of the highways are opened.
I need to get back in the swing of things.
Here's a game that the 5,6 and 7 year old came up with while travelling in our car.
You answer a question like "What colour is glass when it's dead?"
Answer: "It's dead glass colour. What did you think?" Then everyone laughs like crazy and you get 5 points.
Then you say gopher guts and laugh some more. It's a great game.
In the other car, the 14 yr. old and 16 yr. old are figuring out the speed of breaking the sound barrier and how long it would take to travel home if you could travel that fast.
The boys stayed at their cousins' tonight. I hope DD can get some sleep. She did volunteer though.
Penticton is filled with people evacuated from Williams Lake. My friend is safe in Prince George for now and someone was kind enough to lend her, the boys and their pets a holiday trailer to stay in. Looking like they could be displaced for another 2 weeks. B.C. is burning and we have friends and family all over the province. Praying is the only thing I can do.

Lanette: What a fantastic list of accomplishments! You have come so far! And the flowers are beautiful!
Machka: What a great present to each other!
All the vinegar hints will be very useful!
This morning I was 30 kg (66 pounds) down from my mid-January starting point. I think I am definitely on track to be below 200 pounds by this fall. I can definitely see the difference, both in my clothes and when I look in the mirror.9 -

Lanette love the garden. I saw some of the soldiers as part of an exhibit At the Minneapolis Institute or Arts. The emperor Chin was responsible for creating his funeral city. The warriors were part of this. China is named after him.
Barbie love the look. We have lots of trees where we live so once a year I vacuum out the rock. I break it down into 8 sections so I can take it slowly. I just started the process yesterday. I use a Toro vacuum/blower not a house vacuum. Last year I was better at blowing out the rock consistently so the vacuuming was minimal. I was not so good this year so it needs a major vacuum.
Sharon prayers that they get fires under control soon. Scary.

Wow! This is truly amazing! It took me 8 years to lose 60 lbs. I am a turtle for sure! I'm so proud of you.

Yes, my yard is very minimalist. We moved to this neighborhood because we didn't want to have a lot of yardwork. Many of our neighbors have beautiful plants, flowers, and trees, and I walk past their houses every day when I walk the dogs in the morning, so I can enjoy the beauty and the hard work without having to be responsible for the upkeep. Also there are huge green areas to accommodate the neighborhood septic system so the dogs have lots of grass to enjoy but someone else keeps it mowed. We have huge trees not only near our house but all over the neighborhood. We have a leaf blower to blow the tree detritus off the driveway and rocks and if we do the blowing on the day that the maintenance guy from the neighborhood is vacuuming the streets, we can blow everything into the street and he'll vacuum it up for us.
Today I go to Seattle with one of my walking friends. We're going to see a play that she wanted to see.

Today is my 63rd birthday!
63 summers ago, Mom was mother to my 5 year old brother and my 3 year old sister, and due with me on the 4th of July. They were so sure I was going to be a boy (based on my heart rate) that they didn't even pick out girl names. My Granny had come to Nebraska from Idaho to help. It was a sweltering hot summer in Nebraska that year, and my mom was past ready for me to be born. 2 weeks later, Granny went home because she had stuff to do in Idaho. Of course I was born the next day, on a hot July Sunday. At least I was an easy birth, according to my mom. Granny turned around and came back to Nebraska to help out. They had to come up with a girl's name (Karen Marie) ... my younger brother, who arrived the next year ended up with my 'boy' name, Gary Weston. My favorite picture of my sister was taken by my dad on the day I was born.
I had a wonderful childhood. I was so fortunate. Back then, I took it for granted. Today, it is humbling. So many people, including many of you, did not have the kind of childhood I enjoyed.
Thank you, Mom & Dad.

Jess just called. She's on the "Tone It Up" program and evidently the TIU people are doing some sort of tour. She asked me to go to the one in DC. It's on a Thurs in Sept. To be honest, I really don't want to make that trip AGAIN. I'll be going up Aug. 19/20 (I'll leave super early from Jess' because I want to be home at the time of the eclipse.). I admit that I did make a commitment to be at the Green Room. That is the first day of ticket sales, that part's true. She asked me if I could make a switch. I told her there's no one there right now (that's not totally true) and since this is the first day of ticket sales, how can I tell them that I won't be there? I don't have the phone numbers of any of the other volunteers (that's true). She feels that if I really wanted to, I could make this happen. To me, it's not something (the TIU tour) that's earth shattering. Oh, I'll probably be going up for the shower (which will probably be Labor Day weekend)
That reminds me, I need to call the girls to find out if Maria returned those favors. I'm basically going to say that she can either return them or give them to me to incorporate (and then I'll "forget" to put them in the bag). But if she has any thoughts that she's going to be bringing another favor, she can be assured that I WILL throw it out. I'm still Mother of the Bride and I WILL NOT have my daughter's bridal shower look like a circus just because she can't remember that she was asked not to do something.

Happyyyyyyyyyy bdayyyyyyyy!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!2 -
Happy Birthday Karen I can imagine your mom was more than ready for you to be born during a hot Nebraska summer. WHEW!
Barbie - love your low-maintenance front yard! Sounds like your home is in a neat neighborhood - terrific the street sweeper comes and picks up the debris! Enjoy your trip to Seattle!
Leigh - awesome job! So happy for you and your increased energy is impressive
Kate - Your little garden is just perfect. I am an advocate of container and little raised bed gardens-amazing how much can be grown in them. When I was a child, both my parents and grandparents had HUGE gardens that had to be rototilled all summer long to keep the weeds down - of course, there was a lot of fresh eating, canning and freezing the produce.
Off to town for an early morning grocery run.
Have a great day!!

Hi all and HAPPY BIRTHDAY Karen! :drinker:
Went to yoga this morning and managed another 210 calories on the bike this afternoon. Still less than my usual, but it'll do.
I've just made my first chilli in the IP. Going to check it out in a minute.
Stripped the bed and going to check out the new pillows etc when DH comes back from his walk.
I hope we get the promised rain tonight.

Lanette: I saw a Terracotta Warriors exhibition at the Portland Art Museum years ago, sometime in the late1990's. We took DMIL & DFIL along with us. DFIL was in a wheelchair and not a bit pleased to be made to ride. The display included a mix of actual warriors and photographs. Photos showed the size and scope of the terracotta army. I don't know whether this is the same display as the one we saw back then or a different one, but it is likely to be fabulous. Enjoy! I think going by tour bus is far more pleasant than coping with I-5 northbound & hunting for parking. :flowerforyou:
Machka: I took Nexium for years because a gastroenterologist told me I'd get esophagus cancer if I didn't. I agree that Nexium is very bad stuff. I have been off of it since 2/16/16. That was the date that DH had surgery to remove cysts from his back & I saw the news in the waiting room at the hospital that Nexium had been linked as a cause of Alzheimers. My brain is still recovering and I am gaining ground. I agree that it is a horrible drug. :grumble:
DJ: My recent acid reflux followed having an alcoholic beverage with DH after supper. I stopped "treating myself" and the reflux went away. :noway:
Kim: The vegan Sloppy Joes sound wonderful! Win!!!
Sharon: Sending prayers for the people of BC. What a horrible situation!
Barbie: Your front yard looks fabulous!
Allie: Have a great day!
Karen: Happy Birthday! :flowerforyou:
Yoga today!!!!!! I look forward to it.
