Most of my landscape is done!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Tomorrow they will come back and level out all the dirt, lay the black mulch, they found some huge roots he found, put in the cuts from the tree trunk we kept, straw the back yard where the tree had been taken out and then get the check!!!!!! I know they are all immature plants so I am anxious for them to grow up. But it already makes a difference just to get our weeds out. Oh, he needs to sink the landscape bricks.
Michelle came over and the first thing we did was to go and try to find a paint color that we like, work with the fact he doesn't want light in the bedroom and get something her will tolerate. Well we couldn't find anything. I had a doctors appointment so I left and Charlie and her did all the sanding needed. When he gets angry, he takes it out on the wall. I make him fix every hole and he thinks it is fine for him to have all these white spots in the room. NOT! So if I left the sanding to him he would barely sand all the spots he put dry wall mud on. So Michelle sanded, cleaned down the walls. Then when I got home from. The doctor we all of us went to the store and picked out paint. I like bold co,Les and he doesn't. Maybe after we get all the room painted it will look different but the one section we painted lols a little darker than an antique white. The bathroom is a little darker than the bedroom. I was hoping to get carpet pretty soon but I'm not sure if he will do that. The curtains are old fashioned 1978, he even puts a towel over the top to cut out light and duct tapes the blinds to the wall. He is adamant about not getting new curtains or comforter. MEN! But we are dead tired. Michelle says she can do all the painting all by herself but I don't want her to do that. It is depressing to see Charlie get so tire with the little bit he did today. I helped a lady get her husband in the car at Sam's club today. He looked like a cross between Charlie and my grandpa.
Happy birthday Virginia Karen. Your childhood sounds like mine. I wish every child had the kind you and I had. I am glad you were born a girl because we wouldn't have gotten the chance to know you!
The orchestra conductor had in middle school influenced so many young lives. I don't think he will ever know. Michelle wasn't even in the orchestra. It he touched her life. Her best friend was in the orchestra and after lunch period he needed help every day setting up chairs because the room was used as choir in the morning. So Michelle and her best friend did that. Just the way he treated them with respect, got to know them as team members and upcoming young adults gave her so much confidence. He is now at the high school.
Talk tomorrow or maybe tonight, Joyce, Indiana2 -
Tere - I'm really afraid that Denise's marriage won't be between Denise and Pete, it'll be between Denise, Pete and his mother. In a sense, I wish they would move away, just to be away from her influence but still able to see her. Like in another state, maybe VA. But I know that Pete wants to move closer to his mother, even tho that means that he'll have a longer commute. Well...not my marriage. Unfortunately, Denise (nor Pete) is strong enough to stand up to his mother. Now Jessica is. When she texted Jess where she could have the shower and when, Jess just texted back that the girls and her haven't decided, and when they do, she'll be informed. Actually, we've been informed. She'll probably find out when she gets the invitation....lol
drkatiebug ... how right you are, the food really doesn't matter. Who is going to care in 5 years? I'm just p***ed that I specifically asked her NOT to do this one thing, and she went ahead and did it anyway.
Lenora - Denise's gown is hanging in my closet in one of the back bedrooms. I'm supposed to go up there the 20th of Aug for a fitting for her.
Kim - great bargains. I love a good bargain.
Had Rummikub here tonight and I was talking to one lady. I told her about the bridal shower favors. She told me to let his mother put them out if she wants to. Really, she should return them since I did ask her not to purchase them. However, if I were to throw them out or not put them in the bag, that would make me look vindictive, bring me down to her level. Let everyone see that she has this junky thing and mine is nicer. Just wonder now if she's going to get something else? I guess that's what I should do, hold my head high and my daughter will know that I'm not stooping to the MIL's level, she'll remember that.

Michele in NC -I think I know what I'll do about those "favors". Tell me what you all think of this. I'll ask Amanda if I can have them to incorporate into "my" favors. Then...oops...I forgot to put them in....now isn't that a crying shame? If his mother can't remember that I asked her not to buy them, then I can't remember to put them in the bag.
Perfect! I was going to suggest doing something that would involve "forgetting" the offending favors. What a shame the wedding has placed so much stress on you that you have become forgetful. <weg>

Its almost 9 pm and I have expressed my views to Prudence and she confessed, "you are 100% right". She stated that if she wanted cable and internet, her new place would be the time to get it. They might even have senior packages, being that its a 60+ age bracket complex. I am relieved and happy! I shared my strawberries I got at the food bank today with her. Also even a couple of spoonfuls of my sisters homemade strawberry jam! On a positive note, she informed me that she had to go to Fred Meyers tomorrow, and she neither asked nor did I offer. She just stated she would call a cab. Promising behavior for both of us I think!

Lenora, the middle of my front yard is medium sized river rock...then a row of larger rock that probably is river rock but was all dug up in my back yard, in front of that is gravel that is maintained by the subdivision and the street is in front of that.
NYKaren, congrats on the call back...I'm rooting for you.
I am home safe and exhausted from my adventure in Seattle. We rode the ferry and the bus and had lunch in a great place and had good seats for the play that was a musical adaptation of Jane Austen's "Persuasion". Now off to bed.

@jmkmomm ... is the bedroom Charlie's or is it both of yours?
Fortunately, my husband and I have a similar colour preference for our house. We rent so we don't change wall colours, or carpets, etc. but our furnishings pretty much all fall into this range ...
Or maybe something like this ...
If I buy a new doona cover or sheet set or something for the kitchen or whatever, it will likely fall into that general area.
We also both love bicycles so there are a lot of bicycle things about the place ... a lot!!

Becca - That looks like my kitchen colours! I have the same KitchenAid .
When my younger son got married I refused to give them any money towards the wedding as I don't approve of expensive white weddings, especially in church, for non believers. :grumble: I paid for a really nice honeymoon instead as I certainly do approve of holidays! ! !
My second wedding cost $900 all in, including my outfit. We invited 10 people and had a pub lunch. I wanted it smaller, but DH prevailed on me to include partners. Everyone said it was the best wedding they had been to.
I am not going to have a funeral either. I will have my body cremated without a public fuss and hope everyone will just have a nice party and meal to remember me. David Bowie did the same.
Lots of love, Heather UK xxxxxxx3 -

Michele - Don't let wedding stress get to you. It is sometimes easy to lose sight of what the wedding is about. Please don't let that interfering MIL pull you into a competition.
I am that weirdo that doesn't care if we get invited to a dance or reception. I always want to be at the ceremony where they say their vows and make their commitment to each other. Don't get me wrong, I enjoy a good party but for me it is all about the ceremony. Love, love, love.
Mainly good news from the Doc. I do have a bit of a Staph infection in that bite area. She had already put me on antibiotics so ahead of the game there. My blood sugar levels were higher than she'd like. More exercise, watch the diet, journal. I think I can do that. Making an appointment in August to get the ball rolling for the CPP disability. No word from the pain clinic to see if they will touch my back. I see it is quite a mess from the new xrays. No surprise there. I need DH to get on seeing a doc. His scoliosis continues to worsen and we already know he has arthritis on every vertebrae. This last house he worked on really wore him down. I hate to see him in so much pain. He has some meds that work but then he misses out on life.
I managed to make it through the Costco shopping trip. I took 4 of the grandchildren mini golfing. It was too hot and they were tired but they all said they had a good time. No playing for me, just being with them. Cohen said "It's great to have a beer after a round of golf" He's 6 and it was root beer. I felt the same way. Ice cold root beer felt like heaven today.
A gourmet dinner of hot dogs, salads and brown beans then we went to the farm to shoot the air guns and bb guns. Keira was determined to do as well if not better than the older boys. She did! I told her she was my little Annie Oakley. Her response "I don't know who that is but I assume that is a good thing,Grandma" They make my heart so full. All the boys enjoyed it also , especially that oldest one. Grandpa's grin almost split his face.
I'm back to work but the adventures will continue. Larry is thinking of taking the boys to Writing On Stone. It would be interesting, very hot and they need to look out for rattlers. I can't do the caves myself. Thinking they could pack up a tube and tube from the rodeo grounds into the park. Me, I'll be getting my hair back to the natural colour.
More lightning strikes, more fires. Banff National Park is closed in parts as is the Kootenay. Fearful for Larry taking the boys to Kelowna on Sunday to meet up with their Dad. He has a tattoo convention there.

Big storms last night. I didn't get to sleep until 3.30. Woke up at 6.55.
We still did our exercise session. The electricity stayed on, thank goodness, but it was LOUD!
DH was a bit anxious going to bed, so, in a way, the storm was a blessing as I told him the whole village would be awake! We were sitting up in bed, drinking hot chocolate.

sharon your grandkids remarks are adorable!!
Becca love the pic of the dream kitchen, we have similar kitchen aspirations.
KarenVA glad the b-day was just like you wanted.
Heather DH and I went to city hall to be married, no fuss, no muss. Had a lovely dinner and cake at home with a few friends and family. It was an ideal day! Oh and we both worked half day in the morning! 20 years and still ticking along!
My demo audition is a half hour rehearsal in front of 30-40 middle school string players. I know the piece they are learning. Just have to get up there and run a good rehearsal.

Good morning Ladies!
Loving this vacation! Third day at home, tomorrow I take off for NJ until Sunday. Yesterday I met my friends who are all retired and walk the mall. Enjoyed catching up with everyone. Loved the positive comments on my weight loss. I was asked how I did it and I said I counted calories and exercised, tried to slowly introduce new habits. This was met with reactions like "I do that and it just doesn't work for me". I pointed out that it took almost 3 years....patience my friends.
Did some much needed yard work this week, in the heat and humidity. Cleaned out my office, trip to town hall for dog license, library, nails and hair done, laundry, and a lot of meeting up with friends. Today I will pack for NJ and I have an important meeting this evening for which I am requesting prayers that it goes favorably.
My son and daughter-in-law gave me a plant, card and birthday cake Monday evening. I wasn't upset they forgot, they have a lot going on.
I have taken this week off from my normal eating/drinking routine. I am enjoying all the celebratory meals, drinks and treats. I will gain a few pounds but will be back on track next week. It is only 1 week out of 52 .
Love and hugs to everyone!

Becca - I am so happy Prudence is making good decisions (with your prodding) about the internet. The idea of her moving to a different 55+ complex and taking a cab is wonderful.
Chris - your week vacation sounds GREAT! Getting lots of tasks done and taking time for yourself is my idea of a good time off.
Kim - kudo's to you on a great shopping trip! Nice to stock up on items you like and can freeze for later. Hope something good works out for your machine repair.
Sharon - thank you for catching us up. Happy to hear you made it into the doctor and have antibiotics- hope the CPP disability works out for you. Your grandchildren sound like a lot of fun - so glad you are able to spend time with them this summer. Terrible about the fires in Canada - we had them nearby last year with the fire-dousing helicopters flying over our house as the forests were burning just a couple miles down the road.
Machka - I too love the color palette.
DH and I had a "family only" wedding on a very snowy nasty Saturday afternoon in February at my grandmother's house-in her "parlor". DH and I hadn't lived in the area for several years and I had no friends close - his family couldn't make it. Minister from the local Methodist church did the ceremony, he and his wife were the only outsiders- I think there was a total of a dozen people there.
Agree on the cremation and party if any of my friends are around to enjoy it (I may outlive them!). DH does want "last rites" - he's not a practicing Catholic but feels it's important. I got him a nice rosary for Christmas last year.
Off to get my walk in. DH has a doctor appointment in Olympia today so I plan to get a lot done with him out of the house for several hours.
Happy Wednesday!

Machka ~ Love those colors!
Joyce ~ So glad you are getting your home updated. Sorry Charlie won't let you change the curtains. We have these lace curtains in the living/dining room that must be 30+ yrs. But, they go with the antique furniture.
Becca ~ Happy that Prudence is listening to your advice. I must have missed something. Is she moving?
Chris ~ Enjoy your time off!
Heather ~ Sorry you lost sleep time.
I have had the vacuum cleaner and steam carpet cleaner out all week hoping to use them to clean the den and office carpet. Something is always interfering with my good intentions. Now I must rouse DH out of his recliner and make myself get busy. So much that could be done!

Carol. Prudence is on a waiting list for a complex in Astoria. She joked that she needs to go serve them suspicious tea to get the list moving! OK kinda dark humor, but she just turned 86 so she can say pretty much anything!

Becca - I can see why you like Prudence. Arsenic and Old Lace! HA!
Anyone heard from our Mary lately?
Joyce - so glad the landscape project is moving along! That and new paint - what a nice "new house" feeling and you didn't have to pack and move.
I'm getting ready to make a batch of ratatouille in the IP this morning.
Enjoy your day, ladies!

I think that because marriage and end of life are connected with religion in many ways, that people can be as connected to their choices in the same way they are connected to their religion....thus marriage and end of life rituals are generally not good topics for debate. My parents paid for my first wedding and spent a lot of money and made most of the decisions, Jake and I paid for our wedding and it was very small (family only). Jake's daughter and her husband paid for their wedding and made all their own decisions and we had no say. Jake's son asked to be married at our house and we agreed and paid for most of it and made our own rules (limited guest list, no alcohol). My dad went to the funerals of everyone he knew so we knew to have a special funeral for him because it would be important to him. My mother was not a churchgoer but she told me that she needed to have a good relationship with a minister so someone would say nice things about her at her funeral. Thus I knew to plan an appropriate event for her. Jake and I plan to be cremated and we've already paid for it. We want no service. If someone wants to honor my memory then they should adopt a pet, take a walk, eat healthy, be kind to others and otherwise do the things that I consider important, don't just come and eat a lot and talk about me. I am fortunate to have been able to figure out what I want and not be influenced by others. Live and let live is important to me.

Barbie - If I truly had the courage of my convictions I would leave my body to medical science. Unfortunately I can't quite bring myself to do that. Partly because I have friends who are doctors!
With my sea bass and broccoli we had the sprouted bean curry again tonight. Minus the overload of salt. I have to say it is absolutely delicious. For those with an Instant Pot it's from the Two Sleevers website. She calls it Ussal. I also sprouted them according to her instructions in the IP. DO NOT PUT IN A TEASPOON OF SALT!
I'm very happy to be eating such healthy food as I have been reading a book called "10% Human". It's all about the gut microbiome. Fascinating. She is an overpassionate partisan for the gut being responsible for just about everything (!) , but it has renewed my determination to feed my good microbes. Highly recommend the book. I previously enjoyed "Thinner this Year " by the Younger Next Year man. Lots about our guts.

Barbie, you are one of the wisest women I know.
Heather, I know what you mean! I really like the funeral home that handled my cousin's service, but do I really want those "boys" I taught seeing me naked? I may need to use one run by strangers.
Seriously, though, I think it is important to know your loved ones wishes in those situations and honor them to the best of your ability and if your finances will allow.
