WHY AM I DOING THIS NOW?
I call myself a '5-year planner'. Every five years, I need a major new challenge in terms of where I live/what I do for a living. The next 5 year period starts in June 2018 and I need to get ready for the new challenges that I will have to face. Moreover, I am just sick and tired of looking and feeling like I do. I live and work in an extremely challenging and toxic environment and it has started to get the better of me. That, combined with the fact that I am not happy in myself, is adding up and resulting in health problems. I need to put a stop to that now! The photos taken of me at my 50th birthday party was a very unpleasant wake-up call.
MY INTERESTS/HOBBIES:
I am very interested in traveling, learning about different cultures, reading and photography.
In the past year, I have traveled to Egypt, Sri Lanka, India and Ireland. For the moment though, I will have to put a stop to traveling so much as I need to start saving money to buy a small home. Other than traveling, I love photography and seeing how others interpret the world through their photography. I am an avid reader. At the moment though, I keep my reading to fiction as it helps me escape. I read mostly murder mysteries.
Hi!
I'm kind of a 5-year planner too. It has just worked out that way over the years ...
My husband and I married in 2008, after getting to know each other for 5 years.
Then we worked and prepared and finally took an 8-month trip around the world in 2012, spilling over into 2013. It was the culmination of that 5 years plan.
Over the past 4 years, we've been in a "settling" phase but we're coming to the end of a 5 year stretch and are starting to consider other options ...
I also like travelling, learning about different cultures, reading and photography (although I'm really just a dabbler) ... as well as a variety of sports like cycling, hiking and several others. I grew up in Canada ... and then moved to Australia in 2009 ... and have travelled to various parts of Asia and Europe.

Chris you look great in the red dress, style and color suit you. Hope all the restaurant events have choices that make sense, like Heather says stick to veggies and proteins.
Marcelyn that is terrible, stealing from folks already suffering. Your friend is very lucky to have your support, hope she takes time to count you as one of her treasures.
Enjoying the adorable baby pics- boy they're growing so fast!
I'm happy to have a breather from a busy week, still my brain wakes me too early with so much to think about. I need to clear out some mental clutter as well as actual clutter I guess. Today will be a day for exercise, yard work and DH wants to clothes shop for himself which is the opposite of a good time, the polar opposite NYKAREN0 -
Chris- wowza you look stunning..you go girl...today I'm going to get .y clothes packed in boxes and take my tatty dresser to the dump.
Gloria's daughter Patrice is trying to join the group and I explained the steps to get here to her so here is hoping..if any of you can inlighten her to an easy way to find us please do.you can find her on Gloria's Facebook page..she is just as sweet as Gloria was...and I have to ask does anyone know if the poor pup survived?2 -

She would have to be a member of MFP, I believe ...
And then just go here:
http://community.myfitnesspal.com/en/discussion/10593564/women-ages-50-for-september-2017#latest
This is not a Group ... this is just a thread within a subforum of the MFP forums.
It is visible by anyone in the world with a computer. However to participate, you'd need to be a MFP member.
M in Oz1 -
Chris - you look absolutely amazing! That dress is a stunner. I do love red.
Allie - as long as she is a member of MFP, you can copy and paste this link and send it to her, http://community.myfitnesspal.com/en/discussion/10593564/women-ages-50-for-september-2017/#latest, and she will be able to access the thread directly. If she's not an MFP member, she'll need to become one in order to get to it. That link will continually get her to the last post she read, or where she posted, until we move to the October thread. I too wondered what happened to the dog.
Machka - that was the old trainer's instincts cutting in for me. I always told people I was training on various software that there are at least two ways, if not three, to do everything on a PC, but I'm only going to explain one. And I tend not to use the right click because a lot of people are on tablets and phones... but then again, they can only use CTRL C, CTRL V, if they're on a PC, too. Could have done that better, huh. Ah well. I also use that trick if I want to answer something on one page of copying my entire answer before I move to the next and then pasting it into the next page's response box. Makes it easier to deal with the sheer volume here without losing a series of answers. And yes, I've designed web pages for many years--and maintain my own with my books and portfolio.

Still losing incrementally, didn't have my best day yesterday, but just ramped up my dose to the three-week mark on Contrave, so here's hoping it will continue working. The good thing is that before I started, I made sure the non-healthy things were out of the house. Someone, probably Barbie, said once that she only keeps around the things she can eat on the straight and narrow road, so if she does wander off the beaten path food-wise, she doesn't wander that far.
The thunder is rolling this morning in Fort Stockton, on a busy-busy weekend for the town, two 5K runs for charity taking place this morning, and a ton of outside events. Only supposed to get up to 91F today (it was 100F on Wednesday). Didn't dump a ton of rain on us, and the system is already past, so the runs should be able to take place. Don't know what Corey and I are going to do today. I got him out of the house and to the movies last week to see The Dark Tower. It was pretty good, not scary at all. Actually almost made sense out of one of Stephen King's most impenetrable books and series.
"Talked" to both my kids at the same time last night over FB Messenger, one in Missouri, one in Montana. One of the great pleasures of the world we've created. They're so much more comfortable talking in text form (and my daughter sends videos and pics of the grandbabies). It means longer, rambling conversations, which I love than phone calls with them, which tend to be short and to the point.
While I was messenging back and forth with my daughter, she sent this picture. Haley's brother had looked at her, and she was most unhappy about it!
Love y'all,
Lisa in West Texas

Good morning! Happy Saturday! Slept in until 6:30, lingering over a second cup of coffee. My to-do list today: Library, grocery shopping, food prep, lunch, fix my dryer (if time), and head over to sit with MIL for a few hours. I hate to wish time away, but I am looking forward to 7pm tonight when I am home and relaxing.
My eating/snacking have been CRAZY! I think it is due to the lack of walking. I have what feels like a pinched nerve behind my knee and it is making standing up and walking difficult. So...I haven't not walked a whole lot this past week or two. I plan to start hopping in the pool in the mornings, again, and see if that will work this out. So...if you don't see me on here in the early mornings; that is why.
Chris- Wowza! You look stunning in that style and color. I agree with Heather. THAT is an event dress! You need to get a dress like that and go on a cruise or to some kind of fancy-schmancy event.
Marcelyn- Looters! Ugh! My heart goes out to your friend. I can't imagine the relief then anger/hurt felt when finding those things that can be salvaged from a flood and putting them some place "safe" only to find some one broke in and made off with your things.
Christmas again- As you know, like Janet, I am a Christmas junkie! I love the holiday so much that I turn it into a summer party for my kiddos. I have to admit; the summer day that it is our Chris-summer party, in the evening I close all of the curtains (so I can't see the green outside) and sit on the couch with a cup of cocoa and a gingerbread man (we always decorate cookies as part of our daycare party) and watch a Christmas movie (Holiday Inn or White Christmas). That said, IN the past most of the decorating for the holiday and cookie making etc. has been a family effort. But since my kids have gone off to college and DH has been wallowing in "missing the kids", all of the decorating has fallen to me. Most of it I don't mind, but the tree (real one) is getting to be a bit much. Especially putting on the d**n lights! Drives me up a wall. This year we will be heading to Texas (driving), some time between Christmas and New Year, so I am thinking of just putting a little pre-lit artificial tree up. That way, we can enjoy it in the days/weeks before Christmas, DYS will have a tree to come home to as he will be working and not traveling with us, and I don't have to trouble myself with needles, dry tree, and take down after driving back from TX. THere. Having written down my plan, it sounds a lot more reasonable and less "slacker-like".
London bomb- I am so happy that the bomb didn't fully detonate. Hurt and angry that these things are happening, but so thankful that more weren't injured.
Ah well, I have a Pileated Woodpecker outside my window! He has been quite noisy with his chortling and drilling. But I love to watch them. Time for me to fly away and get things done. ttfn xoxoxo KJ (Kelly)2 -
Lisa- LOL! Cute pic! My days are filled with kids making that face and whining "He looked at me!". I didn't know that there was a movie version of the Dark Tower. That is one of the only Stephen King books I haven't read. As a matter of fact, my son in law keeps urging me to read it. As we tend to like the same books, and he is positive I will like it, I should probably pick it up at the library when I go this morning. There are a few movies that, I feel, were better than the book. Forrest Gump, Fried Green Tomatoes, and (to my brother's dismay) The Lord of the Rings trilogy. I could not get through the HObbit or TLOTR books until the movies came out. THEN, after I saw the movies, I went back and read the books again.1

Good morning Ladies!
Wouldn't you know it, the first morning I can sleep in after 10 days, Jake the rescue dog wakes me up at 6 am! I have to give him a pass , he is a senior and I love him dearly.
Thanks so much for the positive comments on my modeling the red dress! It's a really big deal for me to even have my picture taken, and an even bigger deal to post it for all to see. I mention this as I welcome all the newbies, the most recent one,Erli, inspires me to write this. I was were alot of you were, at 57 disgusted with how I looked and felt. I would never allow my picture to be taken and if it were a group shot I would hide in the back. I'm almost 5'4" and was packing on 193 lbs. wearing size 16 jeans. Personally and financially my life was in shambles, I was alone and broke. Everyday was a bad day. I loathed exercise and if it weren't for my beloved dog whom I faithfully walked every day, I would not have gotten more that 1500 steps per day. The elliptical in my family room was a convenient coat rack. No diet I had tried in the past 25 years worked and the weight just packed on.
Realizing I was quickly approaching 200 lbs. gave me a wake up call and I decided to do something. I rejoined MFP, began logging and took the coats off the elliptical. I found out that a no fat diet didn't work for me so against everything I had believed in the past, I began eating full fat and increased my protein. Wow, I wasn't starving and the weight began to come off, slowly, but it did. Every few weeks I incorporated a new habit and then found this wonderful group.
Some truly amazing things began to happen, my clothes became too big,my mood lifted (I had a history of depression), and I looked forward to exercise (who, me??) I discovered thrift stores and bought a new wardrobe and gained long hidden self confidence. My friends here were my cheerleaders, celebrating every victory and forgiving inevitable setbacks. I gained valuable insights as well as friends.
Fast forward to today, I am 61, still 5'4, have lost 54 lbs. and was wearing size 4 jeans yesterday (usually a 6). I am still single (note the first date tomorrow) and financially challenged (looking for a new job), but my outlook and confidence have soared so I can face these daunting challenges. I now consider myself maintaining, although I am working on getting rid of those flabby bits (please don't look too closely at me in the red dress) I log my food and exercise daily, I no longer loathe exercise (don't love it either), but see the results and relish extra calories it affords me. I can be totally satisfied with 1200 calories/day. This allows me those days of indulging like today and tomorrow.
Erli, I hear you about exercise, I might suggest you try KettleBells or some sort of small weights. They are inexpensive and you can find utube videos to follow. You don't have to do much, 5-10 minutes a few times a week and you will be amazed at the results.
Forgive the long post, but I get excited to share when I see newbies. I can relate to their initial posts about where they are and where they want to be and I want to say...YOU CAN DO THIS!!! Don't let anyone tell you that women of a certain age cannot lose weight and be fit and let's not forget, FABULOUS! I think it's very important to remember that you did not gain the weight overnight so it will not come off overnight. Patience. I lost at a rate of 3/4 lb/week. Slow yes, but it's stayed off. Do not try to encorporate too many new habits at once unless you have incredible will power. Let a new habit stick for awhile then go on to the next one. Do not beat yourself up if you fall off the wagon, and you will. Own it and move on. I have been known to eat entire bags of M&M's at one sitting, the big bags.
I could go on and on but I'll spare you, feel free to ask any of us for help/advice, but remember, we are all different and what works for one person may not be right for you. You have to come up with your individual plan and something that you can live with, forever. This is a lifestyle plan, not a diet.
Now that your eyes are glazed over I will commence my day.
Love and hugs to everyone!

KJ - The Dark Tower series is seven books, I think. Corey and I both went back and read the first of the series and agreed that it was still as inaccessible as we found it in the first place. The movie collapses parts of the series into one space, and my best friend, who has read all the books, agreed that it was very, VERY different from the books, not just because of it being condensed, but for other reasons. I liked the movie. Couldn't read the book.1

Happy Saturdays to us all.
Chris You made me want a red dress.
Rye That range is a keeper. I recall when my grandmother had a black cast iron stove with wood inside and heavy burner covers she lifted with a big black pokie thing. Then she got an electric range with 2 ovens.
Meg Thinking of you and your daughter.
Katla When we had to travel, I searched the Internet for something like cheap or discount airline tickets and fund a site that discounted everything. I don't recall the name but it wasn't one of the known things like Expedia. Worked well for me on airline, rental car, and hotels.
Yvonne I know Dot Day. Used it with son for Art. I am less than Dot talented!
Lenora I know IVF. My boy is a 'rainbow' child. He would have also had a twin but I lost that one, too. My husband used some jewelry cleaner which I thought looked cheap but worked like a dream. You just dropped whatever in and then rinsed it off.
Ah, Christmas. My son wants lights. I have a glorious wreath and garland I made last year. It was one of the last things my husband did --to hang the garland and help me with a few decorations. Well, instant tears here. I will just skip this topic. I hope to be home this Christmas with my son. I was in the hospital right after the funeral and my son stayed with a friend and had Christmas with her family. Maybe we will go to the beach.
I can cope with Thanksgiving! GOING TO A BUFFET. I plan to eat all I want and then have no leftovers or other stuff to fix. And maybe we will drive to the beach then, too.
I think I am/have made the goal to weigh 170 before my birthday. Now, I want a solid under 170, do not have to sneak the scale marker down millimeter by millimeter or squint to imagine the scale says less than 170 by October. AND I WILL WEAR MY OWN WEDDING BAND before then as well. I thought about prime rib for my birthday but maybe not. Sigh, not a red dress either. 1. I have no place to go but church and we really do not wear red to church I think, and 2. I look awful in red, maybe burgundy might work but then I think green is me. You know what, I am going to go shopping this next few whenevers and see what Goodwill and CHKD might have in the lovely but not much cost things. And I love Amazon, too. I buy the kid's things there but not usually good things because I want to see stuff in the flesh, so to speak.
Well, I got to go to the bathroom and then drag that handsome child (he had handsome as a vocab word and all I could think was to say-Handsome, you are handsome) out of bed to swimming lessons. My pills have been in me long enough I can walk a bit to bathroom.4 -
An Update and Saturday
First thing Friday morning, I went to a Dr. I described what happened on Tuesday morning, and she wasn't sure what it might have been. So, she's sending me for quite extensive blood work which I'll do next Tuesday morning, and then I have to come in for follow-up. Then, given my heart history, the suggestion was to send me to see a cardiologist. He'll be the same cardiologist I saw for my angiogram a few years ago.
The difficulty there is that this Dr was just filling in for the day, so I've booked the follow-up with someone else. Hopefully the first Dr took notes.
Anyway of everything I told her, she seemed most concerned by the fact that I have been super fatigued and have had a bad headache ever since the Tuesday morning "episode".
So I'll see what happens next week. As it turns out, next week is a mixed up jumble of appointments (bloodwork, follow-up, dentist, and allergist) + work + uni including a test on Monday.

Saturday -- today.
There was much sleeping! Practically hibernating, given the wintery weather.
In the afternoon we ventured out.
First to one of the Tip Shops where I acquired 8 CDs for the grand total of $20. I RIP them to my computer and often listen to them while I'm studying. I tend to go for classical, instrumental, and jazz.
Then we headed into the middle of the city and visited a couple cycling shops ... and finally ended up at the Maritime Museum. We spent about an hour and a half there checking out all the displays.
At home, I decided to make dinner. I hardly ever do that but felt the urge to make something with my slow cooker. So ... dinner was chicken and veg curry. There's enough for tomorrow as well.
Study time now ... before bed.

Chris ~ Yes! That red dress is you!
Lisa ~ What a cute picture of the granddaughter!
Heather and Kelly ~ Keep those pics of you grands coming. We love them all.
BnL called at 2 AM to say he was in the emergency room so DH had to go get him. He thought he was having trouble with the hip he got replaced last Spring so called an ambulance to take him to the ER. They couldn't find anything wrong. Can't understand why he didn't call the DH to take him there in the first place. Things like this have been happening a lot during the last 6 mos.
Otherwise, the refrigerator is leaking water so DH had to turn the water to it off. Hoping the plumber can fix but may need to call a repairman. I tried to get DH to look on Google because I think it is a clogged drain but he won't go there.
Everyone have a glorious Saturday!

Did 1 hr Pure Strength DVD. The plan for tomorrow is to do an AM and PM yoga DVD
Beth - what a gorgeous dress! I'm always in awe of people who can sew something so nice from scratch. There is no way I would even attempt something like that.
machka - I can sort-of understand your feeling about Christmas in summer. I have a hard time imagining Christmas in Florida where for Christmas dinner some people grill. I guess I'm just so used to it being cold and snowy. Hoping for the best for you with the doc.
Lenora - how sweet of your dad not wanting people to know how generous he was and how sad that those people nagged to know. The church I attended when I grew up also burned down. I don't recall what the reason for the fire was. I do remember that one morning I got up and there were all these ashes on our lawn. They did rebuild the church exactly as it had been on the exact same spot. I remember that my mother's funeral was held in the cafeteria (where the Mass was held while the church was being rebuilt)
I just check Facebook and Maria has been on since I mention about how hurt I was, but she hasn't said anything to me. I did ask her about the dress code for the place where the rehearsal dinner is to be held. Last time I was there, jeans were appropriate and I wouldn't think you'd have a rehearsal dinner at a place where you can wear jeans. I did check the reviews of the place and most of them were talking about how overpriced the place was and about the food. There was only one post about clothing, and that was about how some kids came in in baggy shorts. That might have been a one-time occurrence, who knows? So I did message her asking what the dressing was like. If she doesn't respond in about a week to me about the dress code, I'm going to ask Denise to ask her to respond to me because I do need to know how to dress
Marcelyn - how horrible for your friend! How people can do that, I have no idea.
Joyce - that man didn't go sleep in one of the coffins?????? Sounds like something he'd do
Elri - welcome!
Kate UK - thanks for sharing your pics of Greece. They're lovely.
Carol GA - sorry to hear about your BL and about your refrig. Hope it gets fixed real soon.

Peach, I'm going to send you a friend request on FB if you don't mind. With what has happened to Gloria, I figure it is a good idea for someone to know me in real life, and you live the closest. You should recognize me, I think. It will be Kay with the weird last name. LOL.
As I've said before, I don't mind if any of you know my real name, but I don't want it to be broadcast publicly in this group so that my posts become searchable if someone googles me. I'm just a little weird that way.
My grandchildren are coming to visit today. I can't wait!2 -
Kay gladly accepted your friend request. And anyone else who has seen me post on Gloria's page!
Bad news ~ The plumber is sending a friend to fix the frig but he said that the kitchen floor and probably the den floor will need to be replace. Ugh! That on top of the fact that we need a new roof! The perils of owning a house!4 -

Marcelyn: It is shameful that thieves broke into your friend's home and stole from her.
kyrasean: Welcome! Tell us about yourself and where you're from. :flowerforyou:
Sharon in Lethbridge: We do have a lot to look forward to in the holiday season--a new grandson for Christmas. Our grandson who was born last fall is doing well, but it was a difficult birth and he had to have surgery in the Chicago Children's Hospital before coming home. He is already walking! I hope this new baby boy has an easier time of it. I've ordered yarn for his baby blanket. I'll soon be knitting up a storm.
Elri: Welcome. My best diet advice is to log every bite and swallow. I've been here for several years and plan to be here every day in my future. Losing weight is only a part of the challenge. Keeping it off is my long-term goal. You've found a supportive group of wonderful women. :flowerforyou:
Chris: I agree with Machka. You are stunningly beautiful! Your advice to the newbies is also excellent.
Lin: I am happy that you're planning to rejoin us. This is very good news.
Kate UK: Thanks for sharing your photos from Greece.
Carol in GA: Good luck with your fridge. We had to call in a repairman who cleaned out clogged vents and haven't had a bit of trouble since. In our case, dog hair under the fridge was the culprit.
We had a surprise phone call from our son last night. He's going to be here for a short visit and I am thrilled. There is a planned pizza party in the gazebo this afternoon and we will be getting ours form Papa Murphy's and baking it at home. We're also planning a salmon dinner. I hope there is enough time in the with our son for both.

They were teachers and said it was cheaper then than staying at home. Times have changed! I would one day like to do a tour of mainland Greece and see the ancient sights. Not in the summer though!
