Eek, nasty storms and tornado out there. Lots of noise, wind rain and lightening but tornado is passing to the south of us.

Still recovering. Reading but not posting.4

Janetr - stay safe! Hate those tornadoes, especially in the dark!
We just have a lot of sideways rain tonight, gusty winds. Took the pup out to do her before bed bathroom stuff... she managed to tinkle under the lean-to over my potting shed, and then just sniffed around, got tired of being wet so ran onto the deck. Came right in and did her #2 in front of the door here.... Puppies! Normally she doesn't have a "late one" so it was a surprise to me and to her too, I think.
Karen NY - wow, it does look like a big fundraiser in College Station, former presidents and everything! Hope they raise a ton of money!!
Marcelyn and Mary - well shoot, I had high hopes for Magnolia and the Silos. Didn't know about the face cream, what a shame. All the more reason for Chip & Joanna to leave that commercial mess and head on up here and work on my house!!
Marcelyn - that Homestead Heritage sounded fabulous. Glad to you to spend time with your brother!
Suebdew- glad you are getting better
I currently am monitoring a nearby weather station on the Weather Underground website.... watching the wind gusts and rainfall increase. Wunderground has had a lot of problems with their website recently, but when it works well it's a gem.

Marcelyn ... most hyped-up places are a disappointment in my experience. Traveled to Lancaster, PA to see the Amish community there and was very disillusioned by the rampant commercialism. Went into one shop where an Amish man was also unpacking boxes of things from overseas. I guess it was an Amish store because an Amish man was working there??
So I tried out the Instant Pot today ... made bone broth and it was a resounding success! I'm sure you've all shared this before but ... where is the best place to get yogurt starter/culture? I want to try out the yogurt function soon.

We're fine. The worst of the storm has passed. Quite a bit of hail but it was small, I don't think it damaged my car (any more than it was from a hail storm a few years ago). The wind blew a power line down to the south of us on a highway and it hit a Walmart semi truck. Thankfully it missed the cab but almost bent the trailer in half. The driver was okay but waiting for emergency crews to get the live electrical wires off of the truck so he can get out.
Isn't Mother Nature grand

On the subject of "home made" stores being a disappointment, there is a little store run by Mennonites in a little tiny town north of of Mama S's house in Missouri. You walk in and it smells like heaven, home made bread, sweet breads, cinnamon rolls, pies and candies and the farmers and other workers come from all around there to buy sandwiches for lunch. In season, they have fresh vegetables and fruits from their gardens. Jack will buy the occasional baked good or bread and perhaps a jar of jam of some sort. I love to go there every time we visit, really don't buy much, but I love looking at all of it.

Did Cathe Friedrich's Upper Body Pyramid DVD today. The plan for tomorrow is to do some training games on thee Wii. Then I need to go to the church to pick up the donations for the soup kitchen.
Tonight we are going to the Hickory Community Theater to see "The Foreigner".
I just saw this and thought it cute so I'm sharing. It says "out of all my body parts I'm pretty sure that my eyes are in the best shape. I do at least 463 eye rolls a day".
Started to pack to go to Denise's Wed. She called this a.m. asking what time we're getting there. She was wondering if we can go together to get our nails done. I just said "that's so nice of you to think of me", but I'm going to get them done here. Also, I don't know if that place does a pedicure. So I'll just get it done before I leave. Really, we'll probably get there too late.
Now I understand from Denise that Maria is going to have the rehearsal dinner at this place that at first I suggested to Denise and she was very adament that it be held at the place where she got engaged. Then, when I found out it was going to be some place else (the place Maria never went to) I messaged Maria suggesting the place where Denise will spend the night so that she's right there. No, she was going to have it at that "casual" steakhouse. Now she's decided she wants to have it at the place I originally suggested (so the girls would be there). Boo - I see on their menu that Thurs (the day of the rehearsal) is lobster night and it's less expensive. I was hoping to get something that's the most expensive and usually lobster tail is. And it certainly is helpful that I LOVE lobster.
Lenora - many times I put in the car the night before what I need for the following day. I also always keep my coupons with me
I can't get over the change in Allie
Tere - I would never in a million years have thought that spinach had high sodium Thanks for telling me. Interesting. Thanks to MFP I found out that a sweet potato is fairly high in calories. Good in other things. Glad to hear you're better
Rye and Barbie - that's how I buy jeans. Find one brand that I like that fit me well and then buy lots. Belk's sells these Mandie jeans in different colors that I like. I can't wear the Goria Vanderbilt Amanda jeans at all.
Went to see "The Foreigner" tonight. I really thought it would be funnier.
Barbara - welcome back!!!
janetr - stay safe
It's been pretty warm here the last few days. By the middle of next week it is predicted to get cooler. Just hope it isn't too cool at Denise's wedding. My dress is sleeveless.

Beth Any good quality commercial plain yogurt will start your first batch - I think I used Fage or Stonyfield - then you can use your own yogurt for starter after that. A couple of tablespoons is enough but you can use more. I also add extra probiotics like Align or Florastor to mine.

I'm trying to organise my cycling stuff for the start of another season. This is all part of the long list of things I've got to do over the next few weeks, all part of getting ready for a whole collection of events coming up over the next month.
A cyclist's house tends to overflow with cycling stuff and you've got to round it all up and do inventory once in a while.4 -

Marcelyn - so I bought the facial cream that supposedly she quit the television show to sell and it didn't work! Not only that but they didn't ship it on time I didn't get the 14 day free trial and then I got a billed $100 and had to fight to get it back. You can't trust anybody where money and wealth is concerned.
Becca - thanks! In real life I have zero girlfriends. I hung out with the boys and was quite the tomboy. You ladies are the only female friends I have!
Barbara- take care of yourself! We're here when you need us!
Mary from Arizona
You have girlfriends in every state and country! We love ya, and will be here to support you, in all you do! Please come visit Katla and I, if you ever find yourself in Oregon!

Mary Thanks for the link I will check it out. I bought a kettleball today. It is 8 kg. Not sure what that is in pounds but it feels pretty heavy. I think I got a workout just carrying it from the store to my car and from the car into the house, LOL. I ended up taking Jock with me today to see the Spring blooms and I did 20 minutes of sprinting at Nowell Lake Trails. Here are some pics I took today at King Edwards Park in Hawera, New Zealand:

Hello, Ladies. I am fine. working on a plan. DD is having troubles with it all. I am not closing out any bank account.
I am to pg. 48. I find myself at the point where nothing makes sense. I'll talk to them tomorrow.3 -
Sharon - thanks for checking in.
The insomnia is annoying, but survivable... Just trying to get it all done in time for the move. And trying to figure out how the heck we're going to survive on my paycheck without digging into savings once we get there. Had to explain some basic math to my husband last night, who is ordinarily quite rational about things.
I think the answer is going to have to be to move into an apartment short term, and see if we can't find one of the many foreclosed houses in the area that the banks are trying to unload. But we need time on the ground there to find one that's livable and in a reasonable neighborhood. When an apartment costs $800 a month, and you can be in a $50,000 house for $300 a month mortgage, it's just basic math.
Anyway - getting one thing knocked down at a time, but never, ever fast enough for me. Biting my tongue...
Love y'all,

Morning everyone!
DJ - I've forgotten what's wrong with your hips and back. Duh! Sending hugs. What treatment are you using?
With regard to minor aches and pains. I have had a bad left knee since my teens. You can tell by looking at it that it's slightly offset (knock kneed) . The patella doesn't run smoothly in the groove and periodically flares up. It got so bad, because I was favouring the other leg, that I could hardly use it when I was tired. Going up and down stairs was a one at a time job. When I got into the passenger seat in the car I had to lift it in with my hands. It looked horrible too - all gnarly. It often broke down altogether, so I could hardly walk.
I have worked very hard on strengthening the muscles around the knee, doing specific exercises, some told me by the hospital and others from websites. I use the exercise bike, the last part on a high resistance.
I am pleased to say that it is much improved after several years of work. I have noticed recently that it is even looking better, almost like the other knee. I can do lunges and squats. I still am a bit careful with it, but I managed line dancing on holiday. But no Jumping Jacks or twisting motions. I haven't had a "breakdown" with it for years now. Some days it feels tender, but I am delighted in general to have an almost normal knee!
I will write about other "weak spots" another day.
Lots of love, Heather UK xxxxxxx5 -
Good morning! Happy Sunday!
Marcelyn- meant to tell you that your grandaughter (and you) did a wonderful job on that dress! So cute!
Heather-My mom made my dad a Christmas Cake (fruit cake) every year. She soaked it in some type of alcohol (boiled down so it was a syrup consistency). My dad loved it; we kids would have a small piece; but we didn't care for it. I have memories of my dad sitting at the table with his coffee and having that cake. You did a nice job decorating yours.
BArbara- Nice to see you back! Once you are a little more settled; you will have to fill us in on your adventures to the PNW!
Heather (again)- Your knee sounds like my knee. Thank you for posting about the progress you have made through strengthening exercises. I know there is hope for my knee!
Wendy- The color in that middle picture is just stunning! In looking up the metric conversion for the temps that you and Machka have been posting; I saw that your 8kg kettlebells are a little over 17 pounds! That is a nice weight to start with. You are pretty active with your animals, so you will be fine with that weight.
More of you that I wanted to respond to, but my brain is fuzzy. I think I am getting "the gunk". Almost all of my daycare kiddos have had it for the past week or two; gunky nose and throats, culminating with the cough. I began to feel it yesterday when I woke up. I switched out my coffee for tea (coffee doesn't taste good when I am sick) and began salt water rinses. Felt kind of queasy yesterday, and TIRED. Hoping laying low will take care of it. Yuck! It always amazes me, how I seem to get sick when I am feeling on top of everything and getting more active. It is almost as if, the powers that be, are reminding me that I am not superhuman-merely human. Boo.
