But as you've been low carb when you return to "normal" carb you are going to see a scale spike as glycogen replenishes.

Holy scale spike, Batman! 12.5 lbs in 5 days. I'm thankful you warned me. And while I fed myself well over Christmas, that is unreal.

Regardless, I am staying the course for a two week break at around 2000 calories per day. I wonder what news the scale will have by the end.

holy crap, Go you!! I've maxed out at 6.6lbs :confounded:

Like the trainer says: Go hard or go home! HAHA! o:)

Well, between being back at work and on a normal schedule and the excellent body weight workout I did this morning, I was under maintenance about 400 calories or so. I started to stress out about it, then I laughed at myself and made a cheese plate. I wish I had some wine to go along with it, though. Or fruit. Stupid winter, all out of fruit.

    Yum!!

I was going to do yoga today, but I think I will just have to launch straight back into Strong Curves so I can burn some damn cals.

Though, gingernut biscuits (cookies) don't have calories if you're eating them for medicinal purposes, right? Because that's totally why I bought those...

Ginger is good for the digestion, right? That totally counts! I did my first ever yoga workout earlier tonight and it wasn’t bad - just a ten minute stretching thing, but my back and arms were sore enough to keep me up last night so I figured I’d give it a try. I see why people like it. I’d still have preferred the wine.

Yoga is the bomb. And I really do feel like I need a decent stretch before getting back to strength training properly. The practice I have in mind is pretty strength focused anyway (there's 12 or 13 chaturanga to up dogs in there, and a ton of warrior flows). It's just the abysmal calorie burn. I guess I can survive a few days on poverty cals (which is still around 1800-1900).

I'm cursing my cycle, somewhat. Because I'm pretty sure that if it weren't for that, I'd be lighter.

Last year, I lost after Christmas, and had a dietitian appointment shortly after (the dietitian I fired in August). She was on my case about how I'd lost again (which, for obvious reasons, didn't bother me), and I retorted with something along the lines of how well, I'd actually eaten at Christmas, and I was just as confused.

In hindsight, I should have taken her "but you shouldn't have hypermetabolism" as a sign that she wasn't very good. Because holy assumptions, Batman!

And, um, yup on your former dietician!

I weigh daily, or at least generally speaking, for the same reason. Both get the same goal. I won't assess the real "damage" if there is any until a couple of weeks into January, I hold onto water like nobody's business.

apparently I'm in the same boat you are, as I'm up 7 lbs from last week's weigh in, and I know its mostly water weight from the carb heavy Christmas dinner and leftover's yesterday. though with the way I was over-indulging 4 days in a row, part of it may be actual fat gain to the tune of a lb or two as I know I was over and probably over maintence a bit as well, but I didn't log.

What frustrates me is that it seems that if I do any kind of strenuous activity or up the carb intake, the water weight comes rushing on, and then takes days to come back off - I don't get any kind of woosh; or at least, I woosh in the wrong direction!

Oh well. We're working on the kitchen in my house - all upper and lower cabinets are in but two, and hopefully, they'll be up today or tomorrow. I hope to get the countertops this weekend and that we can finish up the touch up painting and varnishing and trimming next week, give the place a good cleaning after dad gets all his tools out of the place (that will take a good day in and of itself!), and then I can start moving furniture in the following week. One the fridge, stove, and microwave are set up, I can hopefully get back into my routine!

I definitely recognized the words “dog” and “warrior” in there. ;) I’ve been used to pretty small calorie burns so it’s weird figuring out what to do on a day like yesterday. I don’t want to get reliant on those big burns though, if that makes sense, so these quiet days should be good practice.

I'm the same but in the long term it makes no odds, even if you're constantly bouncing up 3lbs, you're still also bouncing down. As they say, it all comes out in the wash.

Got a morning weight, finally. Only up two pounds from Dec. 23 -- and considering I usually get a three pound bump from cyclical stuff, I'll totally take this as a win. I totally would have been down if it weren't for the cyclical stuff.

Since I was ahead of schedule, I picked up a breakfast sandwich from Panera. I was hungry, and it was there so ... why not?

I've been at my brother's house since Friday 23rd, go home tomorrow and it can't come soon enough. The stress level alone has probably added 7lb to the scale

Having to justify why I am fricking weighing a piece of meat or anything else has become very tiresome. And as for my S-i-L

I have bitten the bullet and emailed my doctor to ask her to do the further research on getting allergy shots for my hay fever. Two antihistamines to start the day, and I am still snivelling and itchy watery eyed. And I need to go swap my new mattress topper because in my hay fever induced stupor, I picked up the wrong size :\

I consoled myself last night by eating a third of a pavlova. Yeah, there actually is such a thing as too much sugar in one hit! I may have felt a little gross after that.

So, it's turning out that I can barely stomach the thought of anything "heavy" in terms of volume or fat content. Incidental deficit is happening. I'm contemplating working out tonight, but we'll see how I feel. Let's hope I don't spill my guts on the barbell lol

I picked up norovirus from my toddler grandchild last year around this time and it was a good week before "normal" food was at all appetizing. TC of yourself. I hope you don't spill your guts on the barbell, either :D

Thanks! I'll be honest and didn't even think of it being norovirus. If it is.. I've contaminated several people quite easily. Haha. Whoopsy-daisy. What happens in Vegas is going home with them now :D

Sorry about the hay fever, Nony. Have you tried different variations of allergy meds? I don't know how many are available on the market over there. I know that certain ones do nothing for mine, but one particular type works wonders.

Anubis, so sorry! Food poisoning is just the worst. Had it twice in my life and honestly, I'd rather give birth than have food poisoning again. I hope you're on the mend.

Ack! There's no way I can catch up with you chatty people!

I hope you all had a wonderful Christmas if you were celebrating. Ours was delightful, and my eating was... abundant. But it was just that day.

I didn't feel like logging the next day, but I ate foods that I've eaten before and weighed them out without logging and knew I was at deficit given my Fitbit numbers.

Today I logged and was at deficit.

I figure last week being off the rails completely constituted enough of a diet break for me. Interestingly, I read something that gave me some insight into why this might have happened and have taken this insight on board and am ready and have my head back in the game now.

I'm still not ready to face the scale, but that will come in a few days.

Synopsis seems to be that everyone had an enjoyable Christmas, some food porn pics, Nony's hay fever is kicking her *kitten* to the point she's willing to spend potentially thousands of $$ on allergy shots, Anubis got food poisoning in Vegas.

That seems to sun it up nicely!

Nony, I had allergy shots for about 5 years when I was in my 40s. They were really helpful, like you I had been taking a round-robin of allergy meds and the symptoms kept getting worse. After I stopped the shots the allergies never got as bad as they were before, although I go through periods when I'm taking allergy meds pretty much every morning (especially when the winds are blowing in the summer). It's really worth a try.

I was in uncontrolled eating mode from the time I started baking cookies until today (I sent the dozens remaining to work with my husband). Interesting combination of OCD repetitive behavior (cookie baking) combined with sugar craving (and I don't particularly restrict sugar). Looking back I see it was only 4 days but I had to look it up - sort of like I lost track of time. I don't feel horrible or guilty, but the loss of control was a little frightening, and tells me I need to have a plan in place to deal with this when it comes up again. Lessons learned :o

At the highest I was up 8 lbs, but I'm down 2 already and will probably lose a few more - I generally eat moderate carb, and the very high carb binge definitely packed on the water weight.

My antihistamines work, but only to a point when it's really bad. I've tried a few others, and same thing. Basically I've settled it to a point where I just feel like I have a cold so long as I stay indoors. If I go out, all hell breaks loose. The amount of antihistamine required to stop that would knock me out, I suspect. At least it's not hot, so having the windows closed isn't torturous. It also rained a bit overnight and this morning, which knocked some of the pollen out of the air.

This will be the fun part of skin prick testing as a precursor to shots, in order to establish which ones I need: I have to be off antihistamines for five days. I don't remember the last time I didn't take at least one a day. Maybe in winter?

Yeah, the shots work for 8 out of 10 people. Further reading tells me they'll do the pollen ones out of season (which makes sense), and dust mites, if that's an issue, once contact has been reduced (which I guess means keeping my house sparkling clean, joy). God knows how I will reduce exposure to cat dander if that's on the list. The cats are not going anywhere.

Yeah, allergy-proofing the house wasn't going to happen. Take all the carpets up,blinds not curtains, get rid of all the pets, get rid of all the knick-knacks, wear a mask when dusting (I actually do this one) and vacuuming - just no. I'd rather live with the allergies.

Well my place is a rental, so taking the carpets up isn't an option! I should probably replace my less than a year old vacuum cleaner with one with a HEPA filter though :\ And dust more often. I have been changing my bed sheets a couple of times a week (though that's partly because of the emollient build up), and drying them in the dryer to remove the cat fur, much as it pains me to do that in summer.

I have got a hypoallergenic, anti dust mite mattress protector on the bed. And almost had a mattress topper (they were out of the right size when I returned the other one this morning, dammit).

On the dusting - my allergist recommended dusting less often (every 2 weeks was his recommendation) because any time you dust you stir up the potential allergens. As long as the dust is just sitting there it's not causing a problem - as soon as you dust, it's all over the air, even if you're using a cloth (recommended) and not a duster. This was in the '80s though, I'm sure the science has advanced since then :)

When I say 'more often', I mean 'more often than never'

I have dusted once since I moved in at the end of April, and that was probably 6-8 weeks ago now...

That sounds like me; I might dust once or twice a year? I do clean house frequently - clean the bathrooms, sweep, vaccuum, mop - but dusting never seems to make it to my list of house chores to be done frequently lol I blame mom - she hated dusting and never did it, so I didn't see it as something that should be routine. That and when she DID want to dust, she made me do it! lol

Dusting? Only when I move something and am ashamed at the gross. Like above, I do everything else but dust? No. Doesn't help I too am cursed with allergies and even when damp clothing it I sneeze like mad.

Oh and my mum just isn't a fan of cleaning generally beyond doing the dishes and running the vacuum round. It never really occurred to me until I lived in my own place and going back showed up how little she does (we are estranged now so no longer an issue!).
