This is how wonky my GPS was this morning. 3fobcvsoohcn.png

The red X is where I actually started. It did seem to right itself during mile 2 (but mile 2 isn't actually mile 2 of what I ran, it's closer to 1.5).

I think your GPS might have had too much to drink...might be time for an intervention.

Ohhhh definitely. I intervened this morning by ordering the Garmin Vivoactive 3. Not ultra fancy, but it met my price point and is NOT a Samsung.

Woohoo @WandaVaughn since I already knew what you ran, I've been patiently sitting and waiting for your report. I wish I wasn't too lazy to get up Saturday and had a chance to meet up, we will have to make a plan soon. You did a great job! I know those blue boxes of which you speak ha ha!
@lporter229 that is insane, I laugh in a 5K when I get to 2 miles and I know Skip is done, but the winner to be done before you start is painful.
Yeah @ddmom0811 great job to you and your girl. So we don't get any pictures of her ha ha!!!

I racked up enough gift cards for my birthday that I was able to order the Garmin Vivoactive 3 this morning to replace my dead Samsung Gear Fit 2. I gave Samsung every opportunity to be good stewards of their products, and they failed on every account. Not only will I not purchase any more Samsung products, I get the pleasure of telling my wide circle of running and technology friends to stay far away.

New shoes. New watch. New attitude.

There was a time when I liked Samsung products. I would have happily suggested them... but over the past few years, I have not been impressed with the news about exploding washing machines and so on. Yours is just one more story in that lineup. Wonder what happened over there?

Uhohhh... We just bought a Samsung washer and dryer..... Dooo dooo

@ddmom0811 - Sounds like a fantastic time! Big congrats to your daughter. I watched the live coverage yesterday and was getting choked up, so I can only imagine what it was like to be there. Definitely on my (ever-growing) bucket list.

I have loved my Samsung phone. No problems with it, and I've owned 2 in 6 years. It was really sad at how little they were willing to do to help a devoted customer with a household of Samsung phones.

Hubby bought me a new oven/range for my birthday and went with LG.

It was kind of a "Pretty Woman big mistake" moment, IMO.

I can tell DH to cancel the order for the w&d. I liked the LG better with the little sidekick thing they got now... We have a Samsung fridge and it's been fine.. I'll pass the information on to him.

Only phones I've had in probably 15 years are the Samsung's. I did do the Motorola when it was Google for a short time. I was So So So excited to do laundry. But probably not as excited as the poor soul doing laundry by hand with kiddos! Jessica, was it? Bleh!!!

ETA we opted for the front loading.. doesn't look like the same product. But still I'll have dh check into it.

@Elise4270 @fitoverfortymom There must be something about black and white kittys. My sister's boyfriend had a huge B&W guy and he would catch anything. And by 'anything', I don't just mean rats, mice, pigeons and rabbits. He also caught the neighbour's ornamental pheasants and most of the doves from their dovecote. He was the feline Terminator.

Hahaha! The first thing she brought home was a bunny rabbit! Middle of the night I'm trying to catch a bunny from behind the toilet in a large cup. She was probably 6 months old and the rabbit was probably a month old! We have a orange one that used to catch squirrels. I think, he thinks he's a dog.

    Just catching up.

@skippygirlsmom - Hope Skip is feeling better about things after Sunday. That was a rough end to last week! Being a parent is not for the weak.
@bride001 - We love the little piggy at our house! They have wonderful personalities!
@ddmom0811 - Congrats on the PR! Sounds like you had a fantastic weekend in NYC! I thoroughly enjoyed watching Shalane Flanagan kick *kitten* and win! I knew I was a running geek when I started watching TV coverage of marathons.

@cburke8909 that sucks about the calf injury but you're doing the right thing.
@Elise4270 I much prefer massage bars over foam rollers. I suck at foam rolling. Massage bars I can even use at work without too much attention being drawn to me.
    a late Happy birthday, @katharmonic !
@skippygirlsmom very sorry to hear about Skip getting t-boned but very glad to hear she's ok. Hearing about it, though, makes me feel a lot better about taking the keys away from my mom last year. Sounds like that woman may need to have her keys taken from her.
@juliet3455 take care of that hip!
@JessicaMcB I want to run in that snow NOW! I'll likely have to wait a few more weeks though...sigh...
Worth a shot. My son is 14 so I will be facing that soon... and boys are more accident prone than girls from what I am told. Yay me!
@PastorVincent I read in some article that the gap is pretty much gone now, what with the problem of texting and driving.
@fitoverfortymom when your new shoes get to about 250 miles on them, buy another pair and start alternating. When the older pair is worn out, you'll know sooner because of how different your body feels after the run compared to the newer pair. You're not spending any more money over all because you'll still wear the first pair until they need to be replaced. BTW, love the new attitude!
@bjderhak welcome to the group! Glad you're getting your nutrition sorted out. You need to fuel the engine!
    @Orphia congrats on the walk!
@skippygirlsmom and @_nikkiwolf_ you guys fold running clothes?
@ddmom0811 congrats on the PR! And such a great venue for it too. I wonder if Kevin Hart had a body guard running with him.
@WandaVaughn a fantastic race and birthday present, congrats!!

Regarding winter running...winter is my FAVORITE time of year to run, by far! My ideal running day is 20F/-7C, with heavy snow and a light wind.

    November Running:
    11/01: 4.11 mile easy run + 45 min biking + strength
    11/02: 7.05 miles- 5@HMP
    11/03: 75 min biking
    11/04: 14.03 mile long run
    11/05: 4.12 mile easy run + 30 min biking + strength
    11/06: 60 min biking + strength
    Total: 29.31 miles

    Notes:
Had an easy four mile recovery run on sunday (9:26 pace), followed up by 30 minutes on the bike and strength training. It was a good week for me, I actually met my goal of strength training three times a week for the first time in ages! This morning I spent more quality time with the bike, then did more strength training. My legs have been feeling pretty tired these past few days, but I'm hoping all this hard work will pay off in a few weeks with a big PR!

@WandaVaughn congratulations on running your first half marathon! Sounds like an awesome race

Space Coast Half Marathon - 11/26/17
    Jingle Bell Run 5K - 12/09/17

My wife is still asleep. She has no idea of what I am planning. My son will be 17 by then, so can easily leave him home (he will be in school that week). With a few years to save... I think we could do this. Hmmm. Would not be a PR kind of race, but, it be pretty Dope.....y :lol

It's only Nov 6th and my goal is already in jeopardy.

I spent the weekend with my daughter at KU. I stopped half way down there to run some nice Iowa trails just off the interstate. 5 miles later I'm back on the road, but with a nagging pain in my right calf....hmmmmm..

My plan was to run 3 miles with my daughter Sunday morning, then another 10 miles on the trail on the way home, but we had too much to do Sunday so we skipped that run. One of our errands was to buy some cheap furniture for her room...a futon, desk and chair. One thing I hadnt' though about was that we'd have to put it together before I left. Instead of leaving at noon like I planned, I left at 3pm. Not enough time for my 10 mile run.

So there's 13 miles planned that didn't happen. I'm not totally disappointed in it since the forced rest for my calf was probably a good thing anyway. I need to get my massage bar out and start rolling it or I have a feeling this will be hanging around a bit.

It will be hard to make up the mileage since my son and I are heading out to South Dakota Friday for a pheasant hunting trip. This week I should be packing, but I'm going to try to get some miles in too.

My daughter hates my beard so I agreed to shave it for her for the weekend. I kind of regret doing that, but she appreciated it. Time to start a new one, and this one one be shaved until late spring.

This is the best advice, honestly. The new version of the Asics I want come out in early December, so I'll pick up a 2nd pair then. The awesome part of that news is the wide version come in purple/violet in my size and I never get to buy the "cute colors" because I have to buy wides. Sometimes they'll toss a second color available in wide in later, but the default wide version is purple and I am so happy about this.

@skippygirlsmom Know anything about the running trails around the old golf course on Airport Road? Can you use the old golf cart trails to run on? And would that be considered trail running?

@WandaVaughn we just had our XC sectional meet there. The "new" course is fairly flat and it run completely on the grass that is part of the old course. The golf cart paths are like running on the road. There is a whole section of trails at the golf course, but they are hard to run because they are over grown with lots of wash out. Have you run at Monte Sano? The white trail is an awesome beginner trail and they are very well marked.

This will give you can idea of what most of the "golf course" looks like to run on. At least until the grass grows.

    ytikxe9527y4.jpg

This is probably close to what you can expect on average from Monte Sano white trail. A few steeper climbs, nothing that is earth shattering.

    otjmefl8js3p.jpg

Also more flatter spots like this

    auy3hxb8o1fs.jpg

here's a picture that shows where the XC team used to run, it was along the outside of the park area. This is more of the "trails" that run through the woods, they stopped running this about 3 years because it became too dangerous for the kids. I ran it over the summer, you had to pay attention every single step because of wash out and things being overgrown. You could never pass on this trail.

@karllundy thank you - I sent her a text that so far it appears we might get away with under $1,000 to fix her baby and she is very happy with that.
@7lenny7 what a good Dad shaving. Yeah I think the woman needs to stop driving. ha ha the clothes start off folded until I'm looking for something particular and throw them all on the bed and throw them back in the dresser so I don't have to look at them on the bed.

    11/1 = 10 miles
    11/2 = strength training
    11/3 = 5 miles
    11/4 = 19 miles
    11/5 = rest day
    11/6 = 4.5 miles and strength training

So, I have been ignoring a low back pain on the left side for two weeks now. I did not want a doctor to tell me to stop running - so I was refusing to go. I figured I could suck it up and ignore it until after the marathon. Ha! I guess you can imagine how well that has been working for me. I had a appointment this morning at a sports medicine place.

My back is totally fine. My left gluteus medius muscle is screwed up. Apparently, the muscle is commonly weak in runners? They signed me up for a few PT treatments and gave me some exercise / foam rolling homework. However, they did not tell me to stop running....

@WandaVaughn Happy birthday and congratulations on the HM!

To all of you talking about winter running: I am so jealous of you guys right now. It is 87 degrees humid outside right now. Gross.

    38.5/175 (September goal miles)

    Upcoming Races:
11/11 = New Braunfels Half Marathon
    11/23 = Georgetown Turkey Trot

@amymoreorless- I see you are doing the New Braunfels half marathon. We have stayed in New Braunfels several times when going to Austin for the Formula One races. It's such a cool little town. I have done a good bit of running while there. Since we needed to head out early to get to the track, I got up way before dawn to run. Most of the shops and restaurants down in that area by Gruene Hall left their outdoor lights on all night. It was super quiet and peaceful running around that area in the dark. Have fun running the half. I hope your glute feels better!

I'm late to the party. I was sick and then went on a little holiday to celebrate my husband's 50th birthday, so while I've been reading what y'all are up to, I haven't felt up to commenting or joining in. Congratulations to all the racers!

And poor Skip @skippygirlsmom ! My son (20) had his first accident (though it was in my car) this year. He hit a parked car at university. It was claimed on my insurance (goes on my record - tied to license plate for some reason) for the other driver's car as my son tore the license plate off and this broke something under the bumper. Then, we made my son pay for half the repair to our front bumper. It was about $600 just for a little paint damage. Since we all share the one car and it is my husband's baby, he wanted to get it fixed. If it had just been me, I would have gone to the store and bought some spray paint. Glad she wasn't hurt (in the accident).

I'll go for 50 miles again. Was hoping to try 60, but I'm off to such a slow start.
    Nov 2 - Strength
    Nov 3 - Strength
    Nov 5 - 3.11 miles fast finish
Nov 6 - Strength and 1.59 mile walk 4/run 1 repeats on treadmill at 6-11% incline (tough for this flatlander!)

    MTD: 4.7 / 50

    Races:
November 12: Vancouver Fall Classic 5K
    January 21: Steveston IceBreaker 8K
    June 24: Scotiabank Half-Marathon
    September 15: Eastside 10K
