Twas icy out so I went to the Y and did the treadmill. Afterward I realized I probably would have been fine on the sidewalk on my usually morning route. I don't mind snow coming down or running in the cold, but I'm terrified of slipping and falling on the ice and I run so early in the AM it's hard to tell the difference in the dark between wet and ice.
Oh well, tomorrow I get another crack at 5 miles and will definitely do it outside. Plus, my new shoes are supposed to arrive today! WOOHOO!6 -

@JessicaMcB yeah frozen eyelashes are bad. I was thinking of you this morning on my run. I was in my neighborhood and a guy came at me on the other side of the street, I could see his blinking lights coming. It was 65F / 18 C and he had on a jacket, gloves and a full face mask. If he wasn’t in running shoes and shorts I would have sworn he just robbed a house. All I could think was what I his plan when it gets cold.
@HonuNui beautiful fish he looks like he’s neon blue 2 feet is some big fishy
Welcome @heycallmeD
@PastorVincent RoadID is having the sale because their boss is on vacation ha ha
@fitoverfortymom let me give you some advice I got on the shoe RoadID from a EMT. “there is a good chance if you are hit by a car that your shoe will not stay on your foot, put it on your wrist” He said EMTs will look at your wrist for things like medical IDs and to take your pulse so they will find it quicker there.

Ouch! I have not done them... but I have had to do one legged burpees (one leg NEVER touches the ground) - and let me tell you I am NOT a very good ballerina.
One legged? Oh *kitten* no.0 -

Highly suggest bracelet so that you have it on you at all times, and not only when running.1 -

11/1- 25 minutes strength training (legs)+ 3.7 miles treadmill intervals
11/2-5.3 miles
11/3-5.1 miles
11/4-10 miles +2.8 miles pub crawl
11/5-rest day (dog walking, but that was it)
11/6- 5 miles + 1.5 miles with Stella
28.4/120
Not much to report from yesterday's run except that it was dark and wet. Stella had fun on our 1.5 mile jaunt though. She was just happy to get outside without getting rained on. When we run in the dark, I put a blue Nathan's clip light on he collar. I always wonder what the cars passing by think because she rarely runs in a straight line.6 -
Got in a nice run this morning. The weather actually felt really good at 42 degrees. I was thinking that would be really cold (don't laugh!) but just my hands were cold so I tucked them into my sleeves. May need to get some light gloves.
11/2: 4.15
11/5: 3.6
11/7: 3.7
Upcoming races:
11/12: Monterey Bay Half Marathon
12/03: Hot Chocolate 15k (Scottsdale, AZ)1 -
Neurotic assessment of injury management. I need insight...
I've had 3 days off running... My assessment is that my hip will hurt weather I run or not. I'm almost convinced to go ahead and run at lunch since I have PT after work... But unsure now if I should wait. Kitten! I mean I thought I had this all figured out, when to run, when to rest but I was wrong. I know nutzing.
Usually I just tell myself "do whatever you want". But I'm trying to plot and plan the for best. Farts. Farts. And hot dogs...
Okay okay okay..
I'm certain that this is surgical.
I'm certain pt will help my angry quads, ITB, piriformis, hamstring, ect...
I'm almost certain running will slow the rehab of said muscle groups.
I'm almost certain running a few miles won't make things worse. In fact, seems to help in the immediate short term. Two days post exercise I hurt.
And I'm almost certain surgery won't be another 6 months of learning to walk again...
Wait for pool to open?
Wait for surgeons visit the 13th?
Screw it, I'm going running? With a limit in mind, 2-3 miles.1 -
@Elise4270 Yikes. What a conundrum. Sorry!

Today I did Matt Fitz's long intervals and, for the first time, I didn't walk at all during the rest portions. Go me!
Nov 7 – 2.54 miles
MTD: 7.24 / 50 miles6 -
November Running:
11/01: 4.11 mile easy run + 45 min biking + strength
11/02: 7.05 miles- 5@HMP
11/03: 75 min biking
11/04: 14.03 mile long run
11/05: 4.12 mile easy run + 30 min biking + strength
11/06: 60 min biking
11/07: 8.04 miles- 5x1 mile repeats
Total: 37.35 miles
Notes:
Another successful Track Tuesday! On the schedule was 1 mile repeats, done at goal HMP -10 seconds per mile, ie 7:45 pace. The run itself was 1 mile (ish) warm up, then 5x1 mile repeats with 1/4 mile recovery jog between them, and 1 mile cool down. I managed to be super consistent with the repeats: the first four were all done in 7:44, and then I picked it up a bit for the last one and did it in 7:32! The first two didn't feel particularly hard, but the 15+ mph wind at my back probably helpedOf course that meant the last two were extra challenging, because my legs were feeling a bit tired at that point and I was running directly into the wind! I really really hate mile repeats, they are my least favorite of all, so I'm glad this is the last time I'll be doing them before my half!
Upcoming Races:
Space Coast Half Marathon - 11/26/17
Jingle Bell Run 5K - 12/09/17
Excalibur 10 Miler - 03/18/183 -

Way out of my league to answer any of that other than to say you probably need to find a doctor that you trust to talk this all out with and weigh option with an informed opinion.1 -
@ddmom0811 I just realized I have the same Brooks as Denise.1

I think the recalled all the bad units and the ones currently being sold are fine. My sister had one of the exploding units, but it has not popped yet.
We bought a washer that was recalled. I believe it was only top loaders that were recalled. They came to fix it - a direct TV guy of all people. They added two bars to reinforce the top of the washer. Also, a new sticker to make sure to wash linens and towels on a specific setting that spins at a lower speed.
@PastorVincent don’t forget about the Samsung Notes that kept exploding!2 -

I have heard this as well. Plus, if you rotate your shoes, you don't have to deal with moving it back and forth. I use the wrist one and it is comfortable and unobtrusive.

Thanks @RunRachelleRun and @PastorVincent .
The surgeon says "do whatever I want", PT says "take it easy". The surgeon is active, idk what he does but he's rather fit. PT not so much... I hurt regardless so it's hard to say heed the pain or decide who to listen too *Shrugs*.
Think I'll just buy a case of Halo top ice cream and park my *kitten* on the couch. Or maybe go run and cry about being in agony later... I have no idea what to do. Wish that pool was open... I could just give in to doing upper body strength... Farts and crackers.0 -

@Elise4270 Sounds like you have your answer: take it easy doing whatever you want.
Do you have access to something lower impact for a couple of weeks to see if the pain improves: biking/elliptical/strength training? Too bad I couldn't send you one of the Zero Gravity runners from my gym. Nobody ever uses them, but they look super cool.1 -
Rest day. Except for the fact that I work on my feet for 9 hours
. I keep telling my podiatrist thats the reason for the PF and NOT running. lol

Haha! I like it!!
Thanks for the suggestions. I'd rather run than do the elliptical. That thing is impossible! I have zero endurance on them. Biking isn't any easier on me. Any hip movement is going to aggravate it. I can do strengthening exercises...
ETA I'll probably find my answer if I quit being stubborn and give into what I can do. Gym it is, until the pool is open.1 -
Late to the game but my goal is to get my 3 mile down to 45 min. I haven't started running yet. I will later this week. I'm 29, ran in high school. Was sub 24 min back then. Feel free to add me. I need motivation.3

Does anyone out there know of any running apps that you can set your desired pace and it will buzz or beep if you leave that pace? For ref I used iphone/apple watch.1

Ha, I was going to try the elliptical when I joined the gym but haven't yet. There is a stair machine that I'm interested in and also terrified of. One girl was going up it sideways, backwards, etc. She was pretty impressive. It's so tall, I'm fairly certain I'm going to get overtired, miss a step, and tumble down. Still, it's on my to-do list for a day I'm feeling strong and brave. Yes, I say try to find something that doesn't hurt. Did you say you will have to wait six months for surgery? Is that for the other hip? And how does the side that went through the first surgery feel now?0 -
11/1 - cross training (hubby calls that particular DVD 'Stepford Aerobics')
11/2 - 3.9km
11/3 - rest
11/4 - 3.9km
11/5 - rest
11/6 - crosstraining
7.8/70km
I just realized I forgot to post Saturday's run. It sucked. First I was too cold and then I was too hot and then I couldn't see. I have contact lens trials and it's not going to be as cold today so I'll give those a go tonight.
Haven't signed up for other races yet because I'm broke - work owes me $700 in travel reimbursements. I'm going to sign up for some fun runs for Nov/Dec and the MEC road race series for 2018. Gives me goals to keep shooting for. (Means I don't slack off and start skipping runs is more like it...)
Upcoming Races:
9/24 Heartbeat Run 10K 1:24:44 (11.1km)
1/1/18 Resolution Run 5K
4/8/18 Jasper Half Marathon
8/18/18 Edmonton Marathon 10K

No. I was just reminding myself that if surgery happens, it won't take me 6 months to walk unaided (I hope). It'll be an easier recovery. So putting the effort into rehabbing angry muscles is probably a good call.
I had surgery on the left. It's doing good. Still some room for improvement, but overall 95% better. The right side has bursitis. Which is maddening.
I did the stairs a bit. I just set them real slow. So I'm sure you can do it. I "hate" all those people that make the gym machines look easy!!! Gah!!! You get on there thinking it's easy and it kicked your *kitten* and ego.1 -
@bjderhak I feel your PF pain. What kind of shoes do you wear for the 9 hours? My Garmin does that pace buzz thing you're asking about but I don't know about Apple anything. Been a long time since I used any apps vs my Garmin too.
@birdiepeeps88 Welcome to the group. You got thisJust take your time working on it and remember you aren't in high school anymore :-p
