OMG @JessicaMcB! Your poor feet! I hope he doesn't leave you, but I bet he won't offer to rub your feet any time soon. Good grief, girl, let those feet heal.

@garygse that sucks. I’ve been listening to a load of podcasts recently which talk about ‘pool running’ as rehab. Maybe look into it?

One of our local Ladies who is an accomplished amateur tri-athlete did the Pool Running for 6-8 weeks while she recovered from a minor stress fracture. Then she added in power walks- dreadmill first then dirt/grass trails. She is a nurse so has inside access to the PT and Dr. ,especially since the one PT is also a tri-athlete and 2 Dr's.

@seanevan10 you are so sweet <3 . If you are ever in Alberta and want to suffer for several hours drop me a line- I'll find a way to rope @juliet3455 into it ;)

Lol I mean it's still short of what my distance spread was in September :D . I was hoping to be at 255 by the 10th so I'm behind in reality (I worked out that if I hit 700k in November and 700k in December my annual km count will land a hair over 5000...yes I'm shooting for it on the DL, shhhhhhh!!! lol).

What time are you hoping to run at Firenze @Dazzler21? I feel your photos are bound to blow the group away!

I'm not particularly fast but expecting somewhere between 3:30 and 3:40. Sub 3:30 would be the stuff dreams are made of.

@JessicaMcB Someone has to work the Aid Station, o:):D
I would see you at the start line and then you would disappear, my best official HM is only 2:12. Like I said I have never done an official 26.2. I have ran than distance with friends on "Fun - Exploration runs" but there are lots of Aid Station stops, Route discussion stops. Selfie Stops etc. So its not the same perceived effort as a sustained run.

My last big one was our 7 peaks challenge - all 7 of the 200-250m peaks around town and about 34-36 km depending on what route you picked between peaks. That was right around 5.5 hrs moving time 6.5 hrs total time.
Been dragging in October/November. Just not getting it done.

    Owwy on those feet

@garygse I know it's not an easy jaunt but the pool at my work as one of those resistance whirlpool things you could use.

I'm off work today through Monday after thanksgiving. So I decided to try to get back focused on strength training since I'll hopefully have a little extra time. If I can get going again I know I'll get hooked on it again. It's just hard to start when you've lost progress.

I'm supposed to be making up some running miles today also but silly me filled my day with appointments and plans. So I'm crossing fingers my usual Thursday evening obligation will be cancelled! :p

@PastorVincent – Hopefully, I can cheer you on after my HM. Last year, we headed back to the room to shower and then hit the road as soon as we finished. Because we stayed near the start/finish, it took us forever to get out of town. This year, we have already decided we will take our time, eat lunch, etc. before we hit the road home. There are at least 3 of us running, maybe 4.
@Eire228 – Welcome! I began running four years ago in the Fall at a Thanksgiving 5K. After the 5K, I joined a running training program at my local Fleet Feet because I knew I needed some accountability to get me out of the house in the dark, cold winter months. It worked! I live out in the country and I’m chicken running in the dark alone also!
@katharmonic – I’m relatively tall for a girl also. My best friend who passed away was short so we were quite the pair! Here we are at the start of the Marquette marathon.k6i0epw1dc9a.jpg

@garygse – sorry about your injury. I hope the recovery time passes quickly.

I did 45 minutes on the Precor at the gym this morning and plan to go to a strength class after work today.

    11/3-5.1 miles
11/4-10 miles +2.8 miles pub crawl
11/5-rest day (dog walking, but that was it)
    11/6- 5 miles + 1.5 miles with Stella
    11/7-4.4 miles + 1.1 miles with Stella
    11/8-4.9 miles + stretching
    11/9-30 minutes strength training
    11/10-45 min yoga
    11/11-3.2 mile shake out run
    11/12-13.1 mile Honor Run HM
    11/13-rest day
    11/14-rest day
    11/15-60 minutes Body pump class

    60.3/120

Last night I did a Body Pump class at the gym. It was okay. Challenging enough that I felt it, but not overly tough. I don't think those group fitness classes are really my thing. I can appreciate the enthusiasm of the instructors, but I am not a big fan of people yelling at me when I work out. Plus the endless reps. My god, the endless reps. Just give me a big weight and let me get it over with. Not to mention the burpees. Tonight I have a session scheduled with my training. That's more in my wheelhouse, so I am looking forward to it. Will probably also take the pup out for one of our late evening runs.

@garygse- Oh no, so sorry about the news on your leg. When I had a stress fracture in my foot I was able to bike in my boot, so I did a lot of that and it helped to keep the fitness up some. I also agree with @juliet3455 about exercising in the pool. When I was trying to heal my hamstrings this spring, I took up swimming. I never did get really good at it, but I enjoyed working to improve my form with every session. It was fun to challenge myself to go further each time and to see the progress I was able to make. Kind of like when you first start running. It sucks to not be able to run, but there are other things to keep you in shape. Maybe your mind and body will appreciate the break from running and it will be over before you know it!

October goal: Not chicken out and Register for Zumbro. Start training for Zumbro and figure out real mileage
    Nominal Mileage goal: 100 miles???

    11/1- REST
    11/2- 3.1+ 20 minutes shoveling
    11/3- REST
    11/4- 7.8
    11/5- 4
    11/6- REST
    11/7- 5.8
    11/8- 4.1
    11/9- REST
    11/10- 4.1
    11/11- 6.6
    11/12- 6.3
    11/13 REST
    11/14- 3.3
    11/15- 4.2
    11/16- REST

    Total: 49.4

Today's notes- REST day today. I'm still getting used to the fact that I have 2 rest days a week. That said, with 75% of my running on trail, and the other 25% either speedwork or hill repeats, I have to say that I am feeling the difference in my running already, though I don't have any empirical evidence to back things up. My runs on my 1 hour route this week were 1min/mile faster than last week. Probably just a fluke, but cool to see.

Despite the lower current mileage, I am really liking how my training is beginning and I am looking forward to seeing how much I end up dreading speedwork later... it is intense!

    2017 Races Scheduled
    6/16- William A Irvin 5k

    10/21 Wild Duluth 100k 18:15:51

@WandaVaughn n I’m so glad you made it out (and didn’t find yourself in the middle of football training…..)

Trail run shouldn’t really be that much different than road running, but you will want to keep your steps short, and look ahead (not down). Look at and think of where you want to put your feet. Going downhill and uphill requires some technique but if in doubt, just walk or fast hike. Probably best not to go too fast to start with, as trails are quite demanding on other muscles in your body although softer on your feet.

@girlinahat I'm glad I didn't get caught with the football players, too! LOL My stride is short, anyway. No gazelle-like running for me. I'll definitely keep your advice in mind for the run. I also watched a video about trail running. They have videos for about everything these days!

@skippygirlsmom ever done trail running around 4 Mile Post road in Huntsville? Apparently that's where we're headed.

I ran with one lady who was tapering for her 50K trail run race on Saturday, thank goodness. We were the last two of the pack. Her conversational pace and mine are waaay different, but I managed to answer questions and ask a few of my own. A very enjoyable run.

I covered 5.52 miles at an average of 10:15 pace. Spent 56:30 running. The nice lady wants me to come back. Apparently their other routes incorporate hills. Hills! If she thought I was slow today.... But the idea is intriguing.

SEE! We all knew you could do it. AND they want you back. So go with them!

    61.5/75 miles

I was off work last Friday in honor of Veteran's Day and used that as an opportunity to drive over to the park where my HM will be taking place this Sunday. I was glad I got to preview the first part of the course that includes a decline at the start and incline for the return trip to the finish. It wasn't as bad as I was picturing, but I know it will be slow going hitting that incline for the last couple miles. I'm still feeling a bit more apprehensive for this race compared to my 1st HM in April... I think I looked at the 1st as being an accomplishment and didn't really place any expectations on myself, but now I am putting more expectations on this race.

    02/25/17 - 26:06 - 5K Mardi Gras (not official course)

@WandaVaughn That is an awesome dream. Great job on your group run. Also, I haven't heard "pedal pushers" in ages!
