Karen in Virginia - I used to feel all self righteous having my multigrain bagel with light cream cheese. And then....I discovered just how calorie laden those delicious hunks of dough really are!
Janetr - It sounds like you are going to have a wonderful weekend celebration. Happy, Happy Birthday.
Evelyn - Did you get the big snow out on the Island?
Lisa - Happy Moving On.
Terry - You are enough! It is hard to get rid of our negative self talk.
Thanks, everyone for your kind thoughts about my accident. We all have challenges in our life. I just never thought I would have a physical one. One of the things it also made me realize is that our worth is not tied to our work. That has been a hard one. My parents put hard work right up there with God. They worked hard , honest to a fault and were both perfectionists. I had a lot of letting go and letting God. Still working on it. I count my blessings every day. I list 3-5 things I am grateful for every day before I journal. It helps to keep me optimistic and cheerful.
My brother says he can't believe that I shared the poster with all of you. Why not? I'm proud of him. Not everyone has a brother on a Stampede poster. I'm hoping that soon I will have a photo of him up on Snip. It takes a bit of time to break 2 horses while working full time and acting as the face of the Exhibition board.
Someone told me that my brothers look like they should be in Western movies. Well, they have both been in movies on horses but never speaking roles. I think they might have even got paid for a couple. I'll have to ask.
The last 2 days have been nothing but snowing and blowing here. The snow finally stopped around 1 p.m. but the roads are still terrible for driving. I was glad that Larry got up at 5:30 and drove me to work. I feel like I can't get warm.
We went over to DD so that Larry could visit with the grandkids. Greysyn didn't stay upstairs long and when I asked him why he said none of us were talking to him. Almost 15 , I think that explains it. Keira had a ball with us especially the focused attention from Gramps. She modelled her new winter boots and jacket, sang us a song, showed us a dance routine, read Grandpa a story, mauled us. It was good and I saw Larry smiling and laughing. It is so hard to reconcile that man with the one that I usually deal with at home.
Jheri is stressing about her Art exhibit that will be hung in CASA in the early spring. She is trying to figure out what here theme will be and how many paintings she will need. Sounds like my flower paintings that she has done for me might be on loan for a few months. In between the flowers she may hang her water colour bees.
The flowers are big canvases but the bees are usually on 9x12. I am excited to see what she comes up with. Who knows? Maybe it will be her fish series. On Saturday night the opening is for her friend and painting partner. Looking forward to it.
I'm looking through photos trying to find a few for my grandson's assignment for Remembrance Day. Here is my Dad looking dashing.

Sharon - lovely photos! Handsome dad! Your daughter is so talented.
DJ - I had to laugh too. However blessed we are in life we always want that little bit more. Our problem is more that we have a wonderful house at the moment. It would be a significant downgrade to move down there. Our current house, if it were in Hove would be nearer $2 million! Within reach of the sea it would be even more. It's like trying to buy something in Manhatten. Most of the affordable small houses are real "doer uppers" and I'm not sure we are up to it. I did up two when I was younger and have also watched my son go through it. Hell. We are comfortable here, with lovely views. The carrot is the grandkids and the sea and a more fun lifestyle. The stick is the proposed houses in the next door but one garden, ruining our lovely rural lane and peace and quiet. Plus we feel "If not now, when?" It's easier to move now while we are still fit than wait until we are incapacitated. I am torn between wanting to go and wanting to stay. I would be happy to stay and happy to go.
I do know how lucky we are. I think of quite a few of you who have big problems with accommodation.
Happy Birthday for Sunday Janet!
Love Heather UK xxxxxxx

Thanks Machka, I think I am missing a salty taste, and pickles are just the right go to in lieu of chips and crackers!
I'm all cuddled up on the couch under a soft blanket drinking my second cup of coffee catching up with you all. Saturday morning, you would think I would sleep in but no, wide awake, so I will try to take a nap in the afternoon.
A young work colleague is struggling with her first pregnancy, too much work and a long commute and I feel the need to make her something! It's funny how I always think a casserole will solve problems I am hesitating on the idea of cooking something for her and trying to think of another way to help her. She is a self centered kind of young person, but something about how stressed her job is combined with her feeling exhausted has brought out the mother hen in me. Still thinking on it, if I get inspired tomorrow I will maybe meal prep a double batch of something, maybe. The way she talked about missing her mom really touched a nerve.
Gonna be a pretty November day, time to get to the gym and finish some errands, another busy week ahead as we ramp up towards the December concert schedule--gonna be a doozy of a few months.

Mascha, what kind of exams are you taking? What degree? Good luck and I hope this is e last. I a, glad my particular school of nursing was a 3 year program and most of it was nursing.
I am working toward a Masters in Information and Communication Technology, and this course was called Database Management.
Here in Australia, Masters Degrees can be done a couple ways. One is to do them straight through as a Masters. Full-time students usually do this. There are 16 courses, they take 4 courses per semester and are done in 2 years.
The other way is the way I'm doing it, which works well for part-time students.
First, I took 4 courses, 1 per semester (2 years), and got my Graduate Certificate in Information and Communication Technology.
Now I am taking 4 more courses, 1 per semester, and if all goes well I will graduate with my Graduate Diploma in Information and Communication Technology next year. Right now, I am halfway through ... 2 courses done, 2 courses to go.
When I finish that, then there will be 8 more courses to get my Masters.
I am hoping to speed things along by taking 3 courses some years rather than just two, but whether or not that will work depends a lot on my employer and my energy level. If I continue with 2 courses per year, I've got 5 years to go.
I am a perpetual student. I have two Bachelors Degrees (teaching), an Engineering Technology Certificate (1 year), a Software Development Certificate (a 1 year program, but done over 4 on part-time basis), a Business Administration Diploma (a 2 year program that was accelerated so I completed it in 1), plus a whole pile of shorter courses. I haven't counted recently, but about several years ago, I had hit my 100th course as an adult. I've taken a bunch since so I could be up around 110 or 120 or something.
Right now, in addition to wrapping up this most recent course, my husband and I have started a Spanish course, just for fun. Then in January I start a Data Analyst course as part of the Graduate Diploma in Information and Communication Technology. Course 3 of 4.
My parents are also quite well educated. My mother took a secretarial course, then a 3-year nursing degree(?), and then another Bachelor's Degree. My Father has a Bachelors and Masters and has taken a bunch of short courses in various things. My brother has a Bachelors and Masters. I kind of felt a little bit left behind ... till now.
BTW - my mother nursed in the Emergency Department of one of the cities we lived in when I was growing up. She took the weekend night shifts, so she saw a lot!!! She used to come home and tell us all about her shift.

SHARON ~ Your daughter's paintings are lovely and your dad was soooo handsome!
I have done something to my right side (I think due to some of the crazy exercises I try to do). I wish I had something to take for the pain and muscle spasms but will have to rely on my Alleve.

No snow overnight but temperatures below freezing. I love the changing of the seasons. Today I wore my winter walking boots and an extra knitted hat to be warmer. Also stayed in bed a little later because I don't have to finish my walking early for a class or an appointment.
Jake got a call yesterday for an appointment for the next step in the diagnosis process for his back pain. This time he is going to Seattle by himself in a rental car and staying two nights. The test isn't as scary and invasive as the last one and by his going alone, I can stay with the dogs instead of having to board them. This is the first time since we decided on living with only one car, that we've had to make use of a rental car as a solution.

Saturday!
I had a relaxing morning and early afternoon which was really nice.
Then this afternoon and evening ...
My husband and I went to the gym where I had a great run on the treadmill!!
5 min warm up (brisk walk)
10 min run
5 min break (brisk walk)
20 min run
4 min break (brisk walk)
10 min fast run
11 min cool down (brisk walk)
Plus 10 min on rowing machine.
I don't run often so I'm really pleased with that. About 3 years ago, when I was in the vicinity of my highest weight, my husband and I had a gym membership and we'd go 2-3 times a week. I tried to run then, but felt like I was going to die after 5 min. Now, I can do 40 min! And I felt comfortable enough I could have kept going, but time was running out and I wanted to get on the rowing machine for a little while.
Then we changed into our finery at the gym, and went to the symphony.
https://www.tso.com.au/concerts/beethovens-seventh-hobart/
Beethoven’s Seventh
The most energetic of Beethoven’s nine symphonies, the Seventh was described by Wagner as “the apotheosis of the dance”. From its assertive and compelling opening to the revelries of the final movement, the Seventh bubbles with vitality and passion. Even the “slow movement” is not particularly slow. Immensely popular in Beethoven’s day, it was used to tremendous effect more recently in the wartime speech scene in the award-winning film The King’s Speech.
Mozart’s Piano Concerto No 21 is also renowned for its slow movement, which became hugely popular as the soundtrack to the 1960s Swedish film Elvira Madigan. The concert opens with Baroque Song, a work by contemporary French organist and composer, Thierry Escaich. Maestro Giordano Bellincampi, no stranger to the TSO and Tasmanian audiences, conducts this exhilarating concert.
I really enjoyed the whole performance, but especially Beethoven's Seventh!

Thank you all my dear friends for the birthday wishes. You all are the BEST.
Today my daughter and granddaughter will be going to get "mommy/daughter" tattoos. Not my idea of fun, I do not like them. Jack's youngest son is a very talented tattoo artist and he will be doing the tattoos.
I will be watching the "bedlam" college football game between Oklahoma University and Oklahoma State University, biggest game of the year around here.
Love you ladies and thanks again for the birthday wishes.

Heather: Brighton sounds like a lovely place. I hope you'll be able to find a home that you love as much as the one you have now. Here in Oregon we don't have large cities by the sea, although several small towns have the word "City" as part of their name. Most are small villages or towns. Astoria and Coos Bay are the only two coastal towns that qualify as a city from my point of view. My ideas may not match what others think. I think of a city as having its own hospital. :ohwell: My own town calls itself a city and has a clinic but no hospital. They planned to build one but the state said they couldn't. :grumble:
Lisa: Wishing you a safe journey happy landing in your new community.
Sue: Thanks for your good wishes for my granddaughter. She's home now and seems to be in good spirits. Sorry to hear that you've been snowed on when you hoped to get away from it by moving. :ohwell:
Sharon: I love the art and also the photo of your dad.
Ginger: It is good to see you posting again. I hope you'll be here often.
DH got his flu shot yesterday! At last!!! He was able to get the serum from the pharmacy and give himself the shot using his injector with his doctor's nurse as a witness. After more than 50 years of being an insulin-dependent diabetic, he's had so many pokes that he sees needles as an enemy.
I'm hoping to spend some time at the stable today. My assignment is to ride bareback and work on my balance. I've been tilting to the left & have been unaware of that. I've ridden bareback in lessons before, but it will be a first time riding Arrow and on my own.

Hi Gals,
Happy Birthday weekend Janet!!!
Happy Belated Birthday Mary – I thought in a timely fashion, but didn’t type it! Ops!!!
Sue – snow and a book! Add a cuppa tea and that is heaven
Sharon – What a scary accident, but what amazed me is that you had the presence of mind to get everyone else out of harms way! You are a strong woman to save everyone and then battle through and be who you are now! You are a hero.
Terry – you may have found the trigger! Good thinking, remember that your ex is just that ex! And by letting his comments affect you now you are giving him control again! Ban him! Or put us in your pocket and when the ex reruns in your head just let us deal with him and his comments – it will not be pretty, we don’t put up well with others trashing our friends.
Heather – Weird thought and do not know if it is doable but could you and some of the neighbors buy the garden lot next door and turn it into a mini park area? In California you could donate it to the city park department and they would do the upkeep. That would keep your peace and quiet.
Barbie – have a nice quiet time, I love that a rental car for 2 days is all you’ve needed to save the expense of a 2nd car for a long time.
It’s a rainy morning, as the first real rain since June it is perfect – a light consistent rain I pulled out my rain gear and Levi and I walked this morning, Not too far, as I am a bit gimpy, I was moving the patio furniture in and under my patio cover yesterday afternoon and lost grip on one of the chairs, it swung around and slapped me hard on the outside of my left knee, no swelling or bruising yet but tender and sore – Darn!
I harvested at the camp garden yesterday and brought home a bunch of produce, tomatoes, sorrel, winter savory, basil… The basil is almost ready to give up and be replaced by parsley - but I’ll make another batch or two of pesto and put it in the freezer. I made a new tomato soup recipe yesterday that was not up to par, it was not cream based, so the calories were very low, but it had very little flavor and took hours! so I have a tomato tortilla soup I’ll make today, it’s yummy and freezes well.
I’m doing well on having either frozen or canned most of the basics I’ll need for the winter, all this gardening pays but when it can offset my current and future food bills, I’m really happy!
Smiles

Janetr- Happy Birthday! I hope you are enjoying your weekend with your Daughter!
Thanks for the Birthday wishes! After today I start my cut cycle. Hopefully I gained some muscle during my bulk! I think I did because I am stronger and with the weight I gained I haven't changed sizes but I definitely have some fat to remove now.
Today we're going to watch my nephews girlfriend dance at the Art and Music Festival! I hope everyone has a fantastic day!

Wow, miss a few days and look out... 4 October pages and 10 November, Yikes! Will catch up a few pages at a time... later ;}
Rx aim log, cod liver oil and bp daily, yog/prob twice daily, 80% rule, line dance, walk. Nov 4 reduce 2-300 cals daily from average.
done Oct22-Nov 3: log=13, clo=12, yogx1=5, LD=1, walk=1
Logged every day, baseline average 1700 ish so new goal is 1500 cals.
Walked down the drive in the rain (thanks Barbie) all the way to the mailbox and back only stopping to rest 3 times on the way back UP.
Off to the Wild Rivers Mushroom festival, then Freddy's for frozen veg, romaine and maybe an orange. Will pay cash, have to bring this spending under control. With unexpected hospital and dental costs, December is going to be bean soup and cornbread. Must get creative about pantry purging, building every meal around what's on hand.
November Goals add one of the Rx aims:
BP, walk, CLO, yog + Log daily, keep under 1500
Line dance weekly.
Hook up the wii.
Lisa "gobsmacked" indeed. Leaving people like that is the hardest part of new adventures in moving.
Terry beautiful bling! So creative
Kim fm N Cali You're right, letting the fear limit me is more terrible than the falling. Glad the yoga helps your balance, our sr center offers it and Tai Chi, time to get off my butt!
pip Rocky and BUllwinkle are too cute!
DJ eeeuuuwww! I could NOT wear a giant spider in my hair. Just looking at it in your pic creeps me out!
Allie "...put a new showerhead on myself" well done! Sending good thoughts that the Dr who you've been with since he started will do the right thing, assign you another half hour of work. You've earned the benefits!
Kelly ghost toast, monster mouths the Great Mummy Race, so creative! You almost make child care sound like fun. Almost ;}
Penny studded running shoes to the fish shop? So beyond my comprehension ;}
Michele beautiful pics of Denise. Where are you?
Margaret what? You went to St. Louis and didn't eat any gooey butter cake? Please tell me you got out of the car and walked around every hour or two, the 9 hour drive from Idaho to Oregon is what gave me the blood clots that put me in the hospital.
Hugs,
Barbara, the Southern Oregon Coastie AHMOD who is grateful to be feeling a little better every day.

Katla - In the UK a city should officially have a cathedral. Therefore there are some quite minor places called cities. Recently though some large towns have been awarded city status without cathedrals. Brighton and Hove is one of those. It definitely has a hospital, a Premier League football team, a cricket ground, a pier, a tower and more restaurants than anywhere I know! It also has some quite beautiful architecture. Regency terraces and squares, old cobbled Lanes and The Brighton Pavilion - a palace built for George IV in Indian/Chinese style. Brighton is the buzzy bit, Hove is more genteel. I adore the Regency squares and terraces, but I would think they are noisy to live in. Plus no lift. A small house or a modern apartment would do us. We will buy bicycles as there are cycle lanes all along the promenade. We could cycle to where they land the fish catch and buy fish. There are artisan bread shops everywhere. The South Downs (hills) are just behind the city. Beautiful.
I spent the years 9-18 living about 20 miles away, so I know the area well. When I was 16 I had a boyfriend who worked in the theatre there and I caught the bus to see him every Saturday. He lived at the top of one of the best Regency squares in a tiny, tatty bedsit. Seems amazing now that it is so exclusive!
One interesting fact - in the 80s all the elm trees in the UK died of Dutch Elm Disease. Terrible. But not quite all. The elm trees in Brighton survived because the South Downs protected them. There are avenues of them and special Heritage Trees. I find that quite wonderful.
Kim - the owner of the patch of land stands to make probably £800,000 from the two houses. I can't see us raising that kind of money! Our next door neighbour wants to buy it for their horse, but unless planning is refused he has no chance.
It is by no means certain he will get permission as two developments have been refused recently in the village.
I had a lovely lunch out with my friend. I downloaded a voucher for 40% off main courses, so it wasn't expensive. I had charcoal grilled tuna, with salsa verde, salsify and spinach. Yummo! Having sea bass for dinner tonight. Good job I love fish with a passion! She is off to Hong Kong on Monday and getting packing panic. Her granddaughter is out there.
I hadn't had a reply to two emails from my cancer friend, but I found out by phone she is ok. Phew!
My sad, anxious son in Nottingham now has a girlfriend, thank goodness. No proper job though. She has a greyhound, which is how they met, and two teenage children. I must get up to see him. He can't get down for Christmas. He wants money for birthday/Christmas to buy an induction hob. :noway:
Much love, Heather UK xxxxxxx3 -

Sharon, I'm on southern Vancouver Island, so while we did get some snow, it was only a dusting. The temp has dropped tho, so while we don't have snow on the roads, there is some on roofs and lawns. Didn't get any more last night and that's a good thing! We could be in for some this year tho. We just bought a new car, it doesn't have winter tires, but I have a feeling we will have to invest some money in them. D@mn..... Because of where we are, we can get away with all seasons. I did buy winter tires for my last car, I was working cleaning houses, so doing a LOT of driving every day, it seemed like a good idea to have GOOD tires on the car. When we traded that car in, the winters were still on it, never even thought about it. Oh well, that's the way it goes.
Becca, Congrats on the loss!!
Heather, happy that your friend is still okay and that your son has a girlfriend! Does he have a trade or some sort of degree in something that will help him get a decent job? I don't know what it's like there, but here it seems you need a million dollar education to get something better than fast food or discount store employee. And please don't think I'm knocking staff of those establishments, we need them too! They're just not traditionally the best paying jobs out there.
Guess that's it for me for now.
Hope everyone has a great day!
