Had lunch yesterday with my 2 BF, we used to work together but 2 of us now retired. Had a lovely lunch one friend has just been diagnosed with Coeliac disease and was so pleased the restaurant has a gluten free menu with plenty of choice. Went over the top with dessert and wine and then met DH and had a couple more drinks. But heyho its Christmas and am back on mini fast today.
BARBARA not sure when those videos were shot but when we go in Dec/Jan its mostly sunny and often warm enough for shorts and tshirts, if the sun is out there are always people on the beach.
MACHKA amazing getting your bike back after 3 years ?? I think that's right
Still loving pics of decs and trees, don't really miss not having to do it (I'm not really Scrooge, I love seeing decorations and listening to Christmas music and watching "The Snowman") LOL

Hi Sisters,
Machka, I love that you got your favourite bike back. You were meant to be together!
Well, the tramping club barbecue was a huge success. There were about fifty people there and at first I just sat on a chair at the back and said hi to the nearest people. They were really nice and when I said I really wanted to do the Tongariro Crossing, they pointed out the leader, who was cooking the sausages on the barbie. So, I decided to go talk to him when he was done cooking. Then these nice people I was sitting next to started introducing me to other people and telling me the names of various people and I recognized a woman who lives out my way who had lost her husband suddenly (and in his 50's), so I started chatting to her. Then another woman I had met before and recognized came up to chat. To make a long story short, I then recognized some of the people who had gone on the killer bike trip that I went on some years ago. I had to lay in bed for three days after that trip, it hurt me worse than giving birth, Lol, and then I met a woman who I had once had a long conversation on the phone with about horses...we both love and support the Kaimanawa wild horse organization... So I spent the whole evening chatting to different people, and time flew past...
And I managed to talk to the leader of the Tongariro expedition and he turned out to be one of my husband's regular clients (everybody loves my husband he is Mr. Congeniality!) and so I had no problem getting a seat on the van. I never did speak to the frosty gate keeper even though someone pointed her out...I can tell she and I will never be friends. LOL I actually got invited to go on a tramp this weekend, but I already have plans to do a memorial walk for my friend's son who committed suicide... But, God willing, this is going to be the year of hiking! I also got invited to go on the Portugal leg of the Camino, but I don't have the money for the ticket atm, darn it all. LOL Apparently quite a few of the club members have already done some of the Camino so I will probably be able to find a companion in the future to do it with.
At the end of the evening, after they discussed the upcoming hikes-there is something on every weekend over summer as well as every Wednesday and Thursday, they did a "Dutch Auction" which consisted of bidding on wrapped Christmas presents that people had donated, to raise money for the Rescue Helicopter. I had $10 on me, so I bid on a few things and finally won a package. I only have a couple of things that I really wanted for Christmas and one thing on the list was a new writing journal, as I keep a diary every morning and I only have six pages left in my current journal. I was so pleased to find a beautiful embroidered journal from Thailand in my parcel. Thank you God!
I made devilled eggs, my speciality, and took chocolate mint cookies and crackers for the barbecue. Mine were the only devilled eggs there and they got devoured as well as all the mint cookies. Ended up taking the crackers home. There were so many beautiful salads, asparagus, rice dishes, yum. I skipped the sausages though. It is late now, and my hubby is fast asleep but I am still buzzed from the meeting. I will have to listen to my guided meditation in order to fall asleep tonight. Wendy6 -

Yes ... 3 years later. And in that time we'd been around the world and back. Meanwhile we suspect my bicycle had been in someone's shed in northern Victoria, where it was stolen ... and then was eventually sold in an auction to someone in Melbourne, which is where we found it.
My husband recognised the front wheel first, for two reasons ... 1) he built it and it was my "engagement ring", and 2) I use a certain kind of tube with a long stem. The front wheel was being sold off separately. Once he found that, it didn't take long to find the rest of the bicycle.wildhorsewendy wrote: »Well, the tramping club barbecue was a huge success.
That's wonderful! Nice that you know some people too ... it helps. It may well be the year of the hiking.

On our walk today, my husband and I went to the oval at the nearby school, and I ran around it.
I discovered 2 things:
1) the oval is 300 metres around.
2) it is harder to run outside than it is to run on the treadmill!!
But at least I've got a starting point now!6 -
Machka That is simply amazing about getting your bike back. Boo hiss to whoever stole it.
Wendy Sounds like you and the tramping club are a match! So glad it was such a huge success. Frosty woman is probably a bit jealous of the warm welcome you have been given. Oh well.
Barbie That bear tugs at my heartstrings. Wonderful photo.
The Ventura wildfires are threatening a house that my stepdaughter has made an offer on.

Now I think I've finally finished purchasing all my Christmas decorations. I have hardly purchased anything new since we got our tree (the third one) for Christmas 2013, so this year I thought I'd do a little bit more.
I have one wreath which I made many years ago. A couple days ago, I purchased another plain wreath (just the "pine" stuff) and both then and today I got a bunch of fixings to make up a wreath. I could have purchased a pre-made wreath, but most of the ones I looked at weren't in very good condition ... battered and chipped and whatnot. And besides, it is more fun to make a somewhat unique one.
So tonight I will take apart my old one and remake it ... it's starting to look a little tired. And then make the new one.
And that should be that for my Christmas decorations. Unless I see something else I like when I'm wandering around at lunch tomorrow.
My old wreath ... revitalised ...
My new wreath ...
The wreaths together ...
I could wish they looked a little more round, but maybe I just need to fluff the branches out a bit more.

Happy Wednesday ladies,
Machka, what beautiful decorations and pottery. You are very talented. Makes me look forward to decorating this weekend. The ornament keep making me laugh. I love cherries! If I had an orchard, I’d be popping them in my mouth all the time. Pretty wreath! When mind aren’t exactly round, I put in a little “filler” (i.e. baby’s breath, gold sprays or anything little). My wreath making classes are going well at work. Everyone is having fun which is what we wanted as it is part of our wellness program. Got to think us something for next year.
Michele, love the cheese board appetizer. So festive.
Barbie, thanks for the tip. Hope you enjoyed the party.
Kim, you are so lucky to still have your mother around for the holidays. My 34 year old DD came to me a couple of days ago crying because my mom and dad are no longer with us and she misses the family get together every year at their house. Since we don’t communicate with my sister or neice anymore and my cousin is out in Vegas it’s just the three of us. We talked about what we could do that we use to do. She wants to play Yahtzee as she always played it with my mom. So that’s on our list of things to do. When her dad and I divorced I had to come up with my own rituals. One of them was to take a car ride with her wrapped in a quilt, holiday music on the radio and we would go around looking at lights. I started this because it settled her down before bed and we have continued to do it when she came back to VT.
Barbara, congratulations on the weight loss.
Kate, I’m having lunch soon with a friend I use to work with. It’s so much fun to catch up.
Wendy, glad the BBQ was a success. Do you put something special in your deviled eggs?
Well got to get to work, Terry4 -

I wanted to do something a bit different with my new wreath, but I was kind of limited by what I could get ... everything has been well picked over already.
I am having fun with the decorations this year too. I haven't done much in recent years so it looks a little more festive in here than usual.
My husband does have to eat the cherries to test their sweetness, and thus ripeness. At the beginning of the season he'll eat a whole cherry here and there ... by the end of the season, he takes a bite and spits it out.
When it is a business and you're faced with literally tons and tons of the things, they just become objects.
People used to ask me how I could work in a cherry packing shed (when I first arrived in Australia) and never eat the cherries ... I just don't think of them as food. They're just dark red balls.
But lots of people do like them, which is good.
Anyway, speaking of orcharding, I think all the cherry growers in the region will be breathing a sigh of relief ... the big storm predicted for tonight and tomorrow is indeed passing to the north and west of us. We'll likely still get a bit of rain, but shouldn't get the quantities they were predicting. Less is best!
It looks like there's a good chance they'll have a crew in and start picking before Christmas! I had to get my head around the idea that cherries are a Christmas fruit when I first arrived here ... but that's when they come ripe, and they do have that red and green thing going on.

Margaret - Good news for DH - and you!
Going to do Christmas cards this pm. Not feeling very festive.
I wrote the most difficult bit of my memoir this morning and I should be relieved to have got the second draft out of the way, but I'm still feeling a bit low. Nothing serious, just a bit blah. I think I'm feeling a bit sad that I'm almost at the end. I'm not good at endings. I have been known to sabotage myself within sight of the winning post. I still have editing and typing up to finish, but the writing is coming to an end. That feels strange.
I had to email the technical support for the online grocery shopping that I do because their website was not letting me amend my pre Christmas order. They emailed me back to say there was an IT problem with my account and they were fixing it. They seem to have done that - for now - so I've added a few more things to the list. I'm glad it wasn't just my stupidity!
OK. On with the card writing.

Today is Put On Your Own Shoes Day!
Personally, I don't wear shoes unless I'm going out or, sometimes, when I'm standing at the desk. Nonetheless, I do love them. "There is very little information available about this day... It could be a metaphor for walking your own way in life, being independent and being an individual. It could be a day to encourage children to tie up their own laces, or it could just be a day meant to observe the benefits, and the style iconography, of the humble shoe."
Katla - I definitely identify with the shipping conundrum! During our years in New Mexico, I always had to ship gifts. It affected what I could buy, it was a pain getting everything all wrapped and packed, and it wasn't cheap either. Good thing you have a local shipping business to help you out!
Barbara - Your list of shows sounds so wonderful. I'm intrigued by the Modern Nutcracker!
Barbiecat - You all look so festive in your red and black... who wouldn't be cheered up watching you dance?
Becca - Ooh, Fractured Fairytales were awesome! I like the old cartoons... they often had a nip of grown-up humor that the kids didn't necessarily "get."
Lisa - Congratulations on maintaining your weight after all you've been up to lately!
Joyce - Oh, yes, I understand the sense of pressure to live up to our mothers' Christmas magic! I just found out last night that Philip's parents are planning to come to our house for Christmas dinner... ay ay ay. I think we'll do a scaled-down version of Mom's feast, or else I'll go nuts trying to do my job and get the house ready and do all the cooking. I just have to remember that Mom's real magic was love, and all the trappings were just how she showed it.
Margaret - So happy to hear about your husband's good scan!
Machka - What a marvelous tale about your bike! It was obviously meant to be!
Wendy - Speaking of meant to be... sounds like your auction package was exactly the gift you needed.
OK, time for me to be on the clock.

Funny story – I actually cannot tie shoes properly. I do not have the dexterity or the proprioception necessary to be able to make that knot. My husband realized this last year when I asked him to help me tie a bow on a Christmas package. I also cannot make proper bows. He spent a whole evening trying to teach me this basic skill that he was appalled I had managed to avoid. We actually had a good time that evening when he was trying to teach me, so the time was not wasted. However he did fail to teach me to die a proper bow for my shoes.

Yeah! I've done my cards. Took me well over two hours. But it's done. I love getting cards, what what a pain to write them. I like cards that give me a bit of an update. I try to do that. I needed a drink afterwards.
My non alcoholic sparkling wine has arrived. DH was appalled at the idea.
My prawn curry was AMAZING!

The shoe tying is not a mandatory thing nowadays, like riding a bike. There are tennis shoes for kids that are Velcro, or they have bungee type laces that you just tighten. My eldest son always did the razor scooter, never a bike. My youngest had a devil of a time learning to ride a bike! He would peddle fine but when he needed to use the brakes, he would jump off his bike, like it had its own ejection seat! Most of the time he would just land in the bushes that lined our bike trail, but even then his poor knees! Crazy kid!
Getting excited to pick up Nuke son mid month!! Eldest son comes 22nd! We then invade middle sons apartment the 26th-29th! 6 adults, two dogs in an apartment, (bigger than ours though).
Was feeling cheeky when trying to figure out what to write on my chalkboard. Husband said I Like It!
Ain't I a stinker?!!

I love your board, Becca!
Hey, I rode my bike just like you described your son. Of course that was because I thought my bike didn’t have brakes! My older Brother and sister had speed bikes and they had brakes on the handlebars. The bike I learned right on did not have any speeds and breaking was a function of moving the pedals backwards. But nobody ever told me that, so I used to jump off the bike into bushes.
Until my father saw me. He thought I was being rambunctious and crazy and got very angry at me. Until he found out I didn’t know there were brakes on my bike. Neither he or mother had ever ridden a bike, so we kids were kind of left up to ourselves to learn. I guess I was just not very clever. Lol2 -
Rye, I love my shoes tied nice and strong and my shoes very supportive. But I can't tie one handed. I know Charlie would do it for me but most days he gets up several hours after I do. So my shoe is lightly rid so that I can slip into it at anytime. I hate it that my shoe doesn't feel supportive. Of course the boot is extremely supportive. LOL

Call me crazy but I love to see other people happy and succeeding .
Good Evening Friends,
Bree, Welcome back. Good for you on starting to work on your weight again. Just take it one day at a time and consider everything you put in your mouth.
Barbara, I like your idea about the new decorating trend. We can use different colors for each holiday and season and keep colored dust around all year.
Pat, congrats on the smaller, perfect fit jeans.
Barbie, have fun at your line dance performances.
Katla, I love a fresh tree and especially a live tree for Christmas. We’ve only had a couple of those through the years and they are planted in the back yards of someone’s home. I miss the smell of a real tree but they just got to be too much trouble. And now here I am looking for a smaller tree because this one is too much trouble. Gosh we must be getting old or something. Lol
Wendy, my worst flight ever was years ago from Atlanta to Chicago and my ears hurt the whole flight from about 10 minutes in. It took days to recover and I didn’t want to fly again because of it. Thankfully that never happened again.
Congrats on the tramping club find.
Yvonne, I hope you finish your shopping before your brother leaves because you won’t have time to send anything after that and have it arrive in time. That is, if he won’t get there for two weeks.
Allie, the job does sound like a nice change. You would be wonderful talking with families that have lost a loved one. I hope it works out. Does it have benefits?
Terry, cute sweater on your fur baby.
Pip, I love the dog on skis ornament!!!
Tere, I hope you can de-stress. Good going on the exercise. ((((Hugs))))
Katla, sorry to hear about your trip. I hope you are feeling better.
Barbie, great picture of you Dancing Divas. Have a ball.
Lisa, kudos on no new pounds. That is great with all you’ve been doing.
Marcely, beautiful tree. I love the snowballs on the mantel and can’t believe I’ve never incorporated any with all my snowmen. Beautiful pottery.
I’m off to the Moose Lodge for the Audit. Will come home to eat but will put me later than I prefer. Hopefully the audit will go quickly. I’m enjoying all the Christmas pictures, trees, ornaments, food, etc.

Wow! I've just booked myself in to a Sing-A-Long-A-Sound of Music on the 26th January. Does that mean anything to all of you in the US?
Basically it is a showing of the old film with Julie Andrews and everyone dresses up (mainly as nuns) and sings along to all the songs. I've always wanted to go to one and my cancer friend asked me if I wanted to go to one for a friend's birthday. So I have ordered a red dirndl dress, blonde plaits and white stockings and booked myself into a nearby hotel in London. I can hardly believe it! I will try to catch up with some old friends while I am up there. Luckily hotels are cheap that time of year. Hope for decent weather!!!!
Very excited!

Margaret: Congrats on great news from DH's cat scan!!! star:
Michele: The cheeseboard & fruit Christmas tree platter is a great thing to take to a Christmas Party!
Barbie: You are absolutely right. I'm pleased with the gifts we sent, even though shipping is so costly this year. I'm also very happy to be done with all of the shopping and out of that particular stress arena.
Machka: I'm so pleased for you that you got your bike back. Yay!!!
Heather: "I wrote the most difficult bit of my memoir this morning and I should be relieved to have got the second draft out of the way, but I'm still feeling a bit low. Nothing serious, just a bit blah. I think I'm feeling a bit sad that I'm almost at the end. I'm not good at endings."
Your memoir is one of the most challenging writing projects I can imagine because of the difficult events in your childhood. I am in awe of your courage to tackle the project and see it through. Congratulations on a personal triumph!
Becca: Your chalkboard is great!
We are back from a round of shopping that was productive but not particularly fun. We did get the car fueled up, so we're ready to go. We don't have a particular destination in mind at the moment, but we're ready to go there anyway..
