Hi Sue G and welcome to the group.
Barbi, hope you and Jake have safe travels to Seattle and back tomorrow.
Lisa, congratulations on the completed sale...
Becca, I remember that row of elevators. I went to high school in Portland and used to love to shop at Meir and Frank, mostly because it smelled so good. I got some great bargains in the basement on the clearance racks.
Reading and thinking of everyone dealing with challenges. Almost the end of January up us. This month went by quickly. I wasn't successful with weight loss but did good with my exercise... maybe I'll have a scale victory in February.

It is a cold evening in Indiana so I cannot even imagine M in Oz's ocean. It's more like DJ's in Myrlte beach. It is 31 degrees here and I am freezing. It is so hard for me to go outside because of what the outside temps do to my face and hand. But life t is life. So you go out. I lov my heavy double sided fleece blanket I bought myself last Christmas. And it doesn't talk to much to reward myself.
Took Michelle out today for her colonoscopy and upper endoscopy. He really didn't see much ex dot some inflammation in her stomach. So he ordered a test for celiac disease and said she may have some bacteria related problems or IBS. He did order a 2 week supply of, oh I can't remember what the name of the medicine is. It's the one with the red headed woman who has the picture of the colon on her belly and she is always interrupting people when they are doing something important. I kind of insisted she stay here and sleep. She talks in her sleep! I didn't know that. She didn't really say much except mmmmm or oh. But it was nice to see my sleeping baby in my house even though that baby is 37. I also needed her to hel me with Mozart. I don't know why but sometimes when he poops, he has some hanging poop that doesn't come off in the litter box. Lovely picture. He gets angry with me if I lift his tail to look. What would he do if I tried to cut it out??? So bless her heart. She held him while he was fighting her, growling, hissing at her and I cut these two chocolate cornflakes off. He wouldn't let her touch him or even get close when she left. But he was OK with me. But that's Michelle, she loves animals and will do whatever it takes.
So she is home and resting. And still pooping. But her main problem was constipation before so she is just glad to be going.
Just watched a video that my nephews fiancé did. She us a personal trainer and before she got pregnant she did 'Motivational Mondays' videos. But she just kept on doing them as she could and just included the name of her baby in them and we could see her enlarging pregnancy. Now when she does them she has baby Marley with her. I wish she did them every week. But hers today was ' you know what you have to do, just do it. We all have obstacles in our way that we allow to be obstacles. But we know what we have to do to get around them. I feel like I am Barbie right now. But I am just saying what my future niece in law Megan said. So go out and do it!
We'll Melody is meowing at me to get on my lap. Joyce, Indiana5 -
Joyce, thank you for the kind words. Motivational videos and books and podcasts and threads like this have been the inspiration for me to keep doing what I know I should be doing. I hope the doctors will find the solution to help your daughter feel better.
SueBDew, do you have something interesting to read or watch or listen to while you are on the treadmill? That's the only way I can walk for a long time either outdoors or on the treadmill.
Terry, that sounds like a good plan for taking photos of your jewelry. Can't wait to see how the photos turn out.
It's windy again tonight. Hope the power doesn't go off again.

Did the abs section of Reebok Cardio Tone DVD, held my plank for 2 min 53 sec, then took the extremepump class. The plan for tomorrow is to do the Gilad Wiikii Pier DVD. We shall see how that one is. That's one of the new ones I got at Habitat for Humanity (the one that wasn't even opened) After exercise I stoppped at the Salvation Army. Got 2 pilates DVD's. Guess we'll see how they are. Then stopped to see about rye bread for Vince only they didn't have any. Came home. Senior bowling. Tonight ceramics and I have mahjongg. Want to stop at Lowes Foods before ceramics.
After bowling stopped at CVS and got some candy bars to donate.
Learned Lexi has diminished kidney function. Vince was upset. I really think we just need to watch her diet at this point.
katla - safe travels
Now I'm thinking that maybe I won't go to Mexican Train dominoes tomorrow. I'd really like to see the State of the Union address. Should be interesting. Besides, Vince is going to the dentist and may be in pain and my sinuses are acting up.
barbara - Vince will be eligible for Medicare next year, me the year after that. I told him that in his gathering of information, see if there is some sort of suppliment to Medicare (or even our insurance) that has Silver Sneakers included. My understanding is that you don't have to go to just the Silver Sneakers program, you can go to any program. If that's the case, having a suppliment that would cover Silver Sneakers could save us almost $700/year. I have no idea how much these suppliments are.
Lisa - I'm so so very happy for you! What a weight off your shoulders.
Allie - sorry about the dishwasher and sink. Plunging doesn't help?
Becca - boy, can I relate to the directional dysfunctional saying you posted. I remember a while ago Vince asked me "there's the sun, where is it". I know he was expecting me to say "West" or whatever, I just answered "in front of me". Well, that's where it was....lol But then again, one time he asked if a certain road intersected another one. I told him it did and I knew because I got lost one time and found out.
SueG in Oregon - welcome!
SueBDew - I wish Vince would have a heavier meal at lunchtime and then the lighter meal at dinnertime. That would work for me. But he wants the big meal to be at dinnertime.
One of the ladies in Newcomers posted a pic of a cat who came on their porch. She's going to adopt it, but evidentally there was another kitten. She sent out a picture of it. I didn't tell Vince, but I did email her saying that if someone didn't take the cat, to contact me because I don't want to see it go to Animal Control where it might be put down. I'm not saying anything to Vince just yet.

sigh ... so the organization that has provided housing for my son for over 8 years has decided to slowly dissolve it's commitments and leases ... unless an existing social service group takes over, he'll be without a place. They're giving us time to make other arrangements, but there is an end date ... very saddened by this turn of events. We'll meet with his service coordinator this week and start sorting out our options. Worse comes to worse he could move home ... but that really would not be ideal for him or for me. I told him the appliance store has a collection of nice boxes that he might be interested in. He didn't think that was funny.10

Hello, Ladies! I've been reading the posts here for a couple days and would like to join. I'm 56 with about 20 pounds I'd like to lose. I recently learned I'm borderline pre diabetic so that's my incentive to get serious about my health.

Betsy in NW Washington , it was a great store eh? I could have an awful day at work, walk to Meier & Frank's and feel so much better! Yes I loved the bargain basement too. Wasn't there a hair salon there? I remember getting my hair cut there.

Missing department stores: In SF, the City of Paris department store had a 4 or 5 story open rotunda with a rotating Christmas tree that was something to see. BUT best was the carnival on the roof of the Emporium. Nothing like seeing the city lights from the top of a Ferris Wheel many stories above the street.
Barbie what was the new dance you taught? I'm a sucker for catchy Irish music... Safe travels and good thoughts for Jake's appointment.
Oconnell I was sad when I learned that the Sound of Music movie makers didn't pay the VonTrapps for the rights to the story... they were sold to some earlier not so great movie... just always thought the successful movie should have done the right thing and paid them some royalty...
Terry "Joyce you bad girl" atta gal, you tell her. Joyce we do NOT want you to fall and hurt yourself even worse! Laundry is just not worth it.
Karen in UK "learned the wrong one" When we moved from Idaho to the coast, my new line dance teacher uses some of the same songs, but ... not always the same dances! Can NOT wrap my head around the versions of Boot Scootin' Boogie, Can't stop the feeling/Sunshine in My Pocket and Baby Likes to Rock it like a Boogie Woogie Choo Choo Train. They dance Dizzy to "Honey I'm Good" but that one I can do
Kim Va Mtns love the expression on your face!
Katie Agree with Terry, Evie, et al. Get what YOU like. Hoping the next tile store has the magic combination that stands up and shouts "Me, ME!"... along with reliable installers with openings in the near future.
Carol I'm trying to get Joe to take me out for Mexican Food and Margaritas too!
Michele "prefer something store bought" to your home made cookies? Are they crazy? Sending good thoughts for Lexi, is there a special food for her?
Felicia glad you're still with us.
Wendy, naughty, naughty cougar! Thanks for teaching me some new words ;}
Allie prayers and hugs to you and for your son. Does Dan like Alfie?
Janetr hope you took lots of walking breaks on your long drives. Please watch your legs for any signs of swelling. Blood clots are no fun. Heartbreaking about your wedding rings. Ditto Lanette's ideas and everyone's suspicions of the guy on the phone. Stinker!
Marcelyn kids climbing walls, LOL!
Sharon "Where are your people?" LOL! They must be hanging out with mine...
Becca I too am older than dirt. Glad your hubs copes so beautifully with your tears.
Lisa great news, happy for you, and more than a little jealous of your debt free state.
Heather if nothing in Hove in your price range appeals, are you considering staying where you are? Any news on the neighbor's development plan?
Beth Brava for trying to add humor to your son's scary situation.
Sleep sweet everyone.
Mindful and WARM Hugs to all,

Beth - It must be so stressful worrying about your son's housing. Puts my preoccupation in the shade.
Barbara - I can't see us selling any time soon. Nothing seems to be selling. Haven't heard from the planning dept, but the trees now have a protection order.
Woke up at 5 am this morning after a nightmare of someone breaking into the house. Couldn't get back to sleep with the house sale on my mind. So I'm up, typing to you lot.
I don't know if any of you remember, but last year DH had a family trauma crisis. Another stage of that story is happening on Wednesday. It doesn't directly affect us, but it has an effect on the wider family and the dynamic and is never far from both our thoughts.
I must remember to follow the spirit of the visualisation I did the other day at yoga. I let go of RELUCTANCE and received the new word, EMBRACE.
We are going to Hove for the day on the 10th. DDIL doesn't want us to stay the night as she is trying to simplify her commitments at the moment and they have to dash off early on the Sunday. We will probably just drive back that night rather than stay in a hotel. In March it is Bea's 2nd birthday and we are invited to stay the night.
Looking forward to my week 5 shuffle today.
Love Heather UK xxxxxxx7 -
Rita - i am looking into a Spanish course here. Seems easier to find than an Italian course. My ex has invited me to Portugal. I guess I better get learning Portuguese. He and his kids all speak mainly languages. I really have to think about this invitation. Should have asked if it was a paid invitation.
Lisa - Tis a great and wonderful day. You must be so happy and relieved to have that money in the bank and that worry gone.
Evelyn - Glad to know that you are not suffering from the flooding.
Worked today. Not sure how I made it until one but I did. My dumb alarm clock is acting up. I told Larry even the clock wants me to get retired. Richard was up to have coffee with me before I took off to work.
Picked up Kim and took her to her interview. I browsed the Bay while she was at it. Anything I liked was over the $200 mark so it all stayed right there.
Picked up Harmony and she was acting odd. Took her up to dance but she kept saying she felt like she was going to throw up. We sat in the car to let her nap as I found out Kim didn't put her to bed until ten. Wish I could force her to take a parenting course. She claims Harmony won't stay in bed. Be consistent and just keep putting her back into bed. My Missy Moo had suitcases under her beautiful eyes.
Jheri is going to be making balloon-a- grams for Valentine's Day. Keira is having something similar for favours at her birthday party on Feb 2. She had decided she wants an art party for her birthday. I think her Mom should be able to handle that. I still need to find a present. We will probably do a small family birthday supper on the 1st, her real birthday. She is very excited.
Larry's brother is going home tomorrow morning. They loaded the table and chairs into his truck so he is ready for take off.
I really have to get more movement happening. I think it will be in the water as I couldn't even finish looking around the bay today.

Morning ladies, a busy day ahead for me. This week, my packed lunches won't be red lentil soup but rather, chopped layered salad--first quinoa with a little balsamic dressing, then grated beets and carrots a small bit of rotisserie chicken and spinach and mushrooms. Because the dressing is on the bottom nothing gets soggy and I don't carry around an annoying container of dressing. I just shake it up and eat! Also, have blood oranges for a treat, boy are they tasty. I've got my gym bag packed to work out after school and then it's back to work in the evening for a concert--the kids are more than ready to perform and I'm looking forward to that. Some negative and toxic folks at work are nipping at my heels and I'm letting it bring me down----no no no no, I can stretch and exercise and choose to walk away from the wine---I mean whine This time of year is particularly tough on teachers so I find myself writing in my journal at my desk rather than gather around the staff room eating candy and complaining!!!
Lisa Congratulations on the closing, boy I know that must feel like such a relief!
Welcome new folks, accountability and baby steps, pick yourself back up after a bad day (or two) and get right back to this. Your health is worth more than a bad food choice, or couch surfing. Keep checking in with us!

Good morning all! Happy Tuesday! I am gritting my teeth through my morning yogurt. I realized yesterday, after my first sip of smoothie, that I bought vanilla yogurt instead of the plain! Yuck! Vanilla in a cookie? okay. In my yogurt? blech, no thanks. But, I need the protein, and will not be making a trip to the store until Saturday. It adds 20 extra calories, but that's not a big deal. Just don't like the "sweet" taste in my yogurt. So...I can suffer through three more smoothies. For something so sweet, it is a bitter pill.
Allie- I am SO sorry that your brother is causing you so much grief and stress! Sending you BIG hugs of love and support. Not that anything excuses his behavior; but my guess is he is feeling a great amount of guilt for not being there for his dad as much as he believes he should have been. There may also be some jealousy on his part, that YOU were that person for your dad. SEnding lots and lots of love!
Lisa- Hoooray! So happy for you now that the sale of the warehouse is complete! I think most of us celebrate with you the fortune of being debt free!
There are more of you that I wanted to respond to; but my head is kind of fuzzy this morning. I think I need more coffee. ttfn xoxoxo KJ (Kelly)7 -
Lisa - that's great news about the warehouse sale being done. What a neat feeling to be free to move on to your goal! And I loved your blog this morning about jeans/clothing we wear as we get older. I have yet to wear PJ's to the store, lol. I often wear my 15 year old faded jeans just because it feels so good to finally fit into them again. If I'm just going to Walmart, my DH's sweat pants are fine.
Beth - sending prayers that you get hooked up with a new agency that can support your son.
SueG from Troutdale - welcome! I'm a bit north of you in SW WA State. Keep checking this group out - you'll learn all kind of tips and we are so supportive of each other. Refreshing!!
Barbie - hoping Jake's visit with the cardiologist goes well. My DH has an appointment with the vascular surgeon in Olympia on Feb 20th. If he needs to have anything done, hope it can be done down here. Don't relish driving to Seattle - I won't worry as it might not come to that.
Becca - yes, I'm older than dirt and darn proud of it, lol. Your Navy Nuke son is filling out!
Terry - I am so glad your DH is finally getting over the flu. Holy smokes. I too can't wait to see how your photos turn out!
Joyce - thank you for the update on Michelle. Hopefully the bacterial tests come back with something. That commercial with the little gal with her large intestine showing on her costume is so cute. I too can't recall what drug they are selling other than it has to do with the intestine. I remember when I had an abdominal ultrasound done a few years back and was stunned to learn my large intestine came right up under my ribs. For some reason I thought everything was down there around my belly button, lol. Has she had food allergy testing done? Glad she was there to help you with Mozart's little "trim", lol.
NYKaren - thank you for sharing your jar salad recipe. I have all the ingredients here and will make a couple up. Good for you writing in your journal. I can see why you are looking forward to retirement. It's so nice to not have to deal with negative and toxic people at work anymore - when they are at your workplace, it's hard to ignore. I remember the freedom when I could finally tell them "see ya (I hope never, lol)" and shut the door on them!
Have a good Tuesday ladies! One more day then Barbie will get us on board for February.

getting hooked into an agency isn't the problem ... he uses several now for different services. The problem is finding a supported living situation that allows him to be independent and self-direct his life. The current model (excluding where he's been living which was a grand experiment that has come to an end) places people in "homes" regardless of the degree of disability and removes individual autonomy. My son needs physical support (and a little common sense support) but to put him with intellectually disabled individuals would be inappropriate on so many levels. He speaks multiple languages, holds a BA in Romance Languages and is currently pursuing a masters degree in Biblical Studies while always looking for employment. In the disabled community, he is the minority. We're looking for wheelchair accessible apartments that he could share with a roommate, and frankly, they don't exist. Senior buildings have "accessible" apartments for people of all ages but this usually means a walker can get through the doors, not a wheelchair or roll-in shower.
Anyways, enough of my thinking out loud for today. I'm a firm believer in providence and live by an expectation that when a door closes, another is opening. We'll do our part and see what tomorrow brings.

Good morning ladies. The large part of our day will be taking Jack to the surgeon for a MOS procedure on a cancerous growth in the top of his head. The dermatologist has removed it twice previously, so this time will check margins to make sure they get it all. Last time at this surgeon's he had to have a skin graft behind his ear after th lesion was removed. . Hopefully not today. We suspect exposure to Agent Orange as the source for his having so many problems with this.
Have a great day ladies, much love,

We went to an Ice Castle last night made from icicles. We had to wait to get in because they were filming the Super Bowl Trophy inside. One of the poor newscasters was from California and was miserable. She landed in that horrible storm of ours and one of the workers there was trying to convince her what a great day that was. No that was a miserable day! Not the best way to be introduced to Minnesota.
Allie I have a brother like that so I feel for you. You certainly don't need that on top of everything else. Take care.
I can scratch off going into an igloo off my bucket list!
Margaret7 -
Beth: Prayers that you are able to find the right place for your son!
Lisa: Congrats on the sale and money in the bank.
Heather: I kind of know how you feel about not getting to see your grands as often as you like. Mine only live about 45 minutes from us, but, they stay so busy 7 days a week it is difficult. Son is only off on Thurs. & Fri. as he is a restaurant manager and their busy time is on the weekend.
Kay: Hope your contractor works out. When I looked at Floor and Decor, they had so many different samples that I was overwhelmed.
I drove DH up to son's house today so he can get his car back. Son's car has been at the Jeep dealership for almost a month and he has had to use DH's. Evidently, they don't make the part for it anymore and it has taken this long to find one.

Beth - Ah, thank you for clarifying. I think you are right - when one door closes, another opens. Kudos to your son for continuing his education - he certainly is exceptional. Is he taking classes online or was he able to attend college on campus?
As I read about his situation, I am now curious about what kind of housing exists in my community. Our state Area Agency on Aging also has caseworkers who deal not only with seniors in need, but with disabled folks of all ages.
You have my wheels turning!

Cue the music: she is handsome, she is pretty, she is the bell of Belfast city....
I grew up with the Irish folk music usually performed by the Clancy brothers and Tommy Makem ... constantly it seems in the background. The close to St. Patrick’s day visit to Chicago if the Clancy Brothers in concert was a yearly pilgrimage in our family. That is a fun and upbeat song! (Tho I’d trip up all the dancers if you tried to have me join in! Pretty sure my motor coordination deficiencies put that way out of my league, so I’ll just sing along from the sidelines! ).
Lol, I do love to dance- but it has to be modern freestyle jump around to the music stuff - but, Barbie it looks like fun!1
