WOMEN AGES 50+ FOR JANUARY 2018

Been a little busy here. I was headed off to go downtown for a concert and had to run into the back yard to get something and saw a burble of "water" coming up from our septic system. Once again the tree roots had broken a pipe. I debated ignoring it as I really wanted to go to the concert but instead got on my boots and started shoveling. My husband got home a few hours later and I had most of it dug up. It was the line that goes out to the leach field so it wasn't as smelly as it could have been. But for the rest of that day and until about 10 at night I traded my heels for mucking boots. My husband says he married an almost too self-sufficient woman. lol But I notice he doesn't complain that I save him a lot of work in the long run (plus I ask for cool things for my birthday, like air compressors, bench grinders and welding machines ..... still waiting on the welding machine. lol)

Who is going to have a tree removed before I have to do this septic dance again (we've been through it four times now, stupid tree won't stop growing, go figure)

Marcelyn those kids are climbing the walls Too cute.
Janet rats so sorry you lost your precious rings. I hope karma serves that attendant exactly what he deserves. And I too would make a police report and contact insurer. But so sorry it happened.
It is my DH that is in some denial about his waist size when shopping for jeans. He does exercise and doesn’t overeat but avoids most veggies. He is an athlete but at 55 his metabolism ain’t what it used to be.
Ah well, I’m savoring my Sunday night before a big work week.

My goal was to be under 80kg by 1/1/18. I scraped in at 79.8. At the beginning of November 2017 I was 92.8kg and started LCHF eating on the advice of my doctor. to date I have lost 16.1kg and am now 76.7. I still have some way to go but am finding the LCHF eating plan to be easy to keep to and much to my surprise don't miss bread, rice or pasta.9

I don't call it a diet, it's a way of eating, and VERY easy to follow. Tastes darned good too. Fat is my best friend.

less than 20g of carbs a day....

Marcelyn, ugh, I sympathize with you over the septic issues! We finally sold our place and the new one we bought is connected to sewer. Yay! Cute that the grandkids are literally climbing the walls! lol
NYKaren, my DH was very athletic also, his eating isn't horrid, but there is room for improvement (isn't there always??lol), but now his mostly sedentary lifestyle is catching up with him. But, with a not great heart and a herniated disc in his lower back his exercise options are somewhat limited. We were going for walks when the weather was nice and it wasn't dark at 4:30 but once the rainy season hit..... Well, neither of us are too excited about walking in the rain. He does have a recumbent stationary bike that he has been riding every other day, so that will have to do for now. We will see what the cardiologist says about his exercise regime on Monday.
Katie, congrats on the sermon! Sounds like it was an interesting time. Always good to stretch those mind muscles of ours! Our old house never would have come together either. We did things one at a time for the same reason you are. Now because we bought a brand new house everything is coordinated! It's kind of a weird feeling, gotta say! But we are really enjoying not having to reno anything!
Pip, that tire flip is crazy stuff! You go girl!

Janetr ... I have lost valuable jewelry in the past and I know the sick bottomless feeling it leaves you with. It's only a "thing" ... but still it's a precious thing. I was wondering if you might have the rings insured under your homeowner's policy? My jewelry is covered and did not require a special rider. Not likely to take away the sense of loss but maybe lessen the pain a little ...
Jack and I discussed that possibility, we're not sure of insurance coverage. Will have to check. We had the wedding ring custom made3 -
I am home and in bed,my son tucked in on sofa bed in other room hope he can get some sleep..and hope o can too.7
-
Janetr Do you have a photo? I would send it to the police when you make the report. A custom ring would be easily identifiable if pawned. I would also call the station back and talk with the owner as suggested. Hopefully there is camera footage. (((Hug)))
Karen in Virginia3 -
JanetR, all of my jewelry is covered by our home owners insurance. We don have to list anything by name. Of course all we have of any value is my wedding and engagement ring. I hope you get it back.
Oh Mrcylyn, hose kids are literally climbing g the walls. Would drive me crazy. But they do look quite talented.
All has been good today. Blood pressure moderately high but no dizziness. Someone asked me what my doctor wants it at. My cardiologist wants in the 140s/70s. My last one was 143/66.4 -
Katie - If you are keeping the green tile I really lean towards the earthy tones (what I think you call taupe). We have a deep, but short tub. Louis put a handle on it so I could get in and out easier; but, I have started taking showers and I don't get in it. The handle is usually covered by Louis' work clothes.
Janetr - Most insurance policies cover jewelry at $2500.00 I had my wedding ring appraised and we bought the rider for it; wasn't expensive at all. Something like $5 a month.
Have a wonderful week!
Lenora1 -
Joyce, I have been enjoying the Four Continents Figure Skating. I recorded on my DVR and am way behind. I appreciate your not giving away any of the results in your posts.1
-
Lenora, the green tile is going. It has served its time, and I will thank it for its service. All of that will be replaced with subway tile and a new accent tile. If we go with the taupe it will be the marble multicolored one.2
-
Oh JanetR- so sorry about your rings. I hope the insurance will pay for it. I see the dentist tomorrow about my broken tooth.
Not much going on tonight so will talk to you tomorrow.

Did 1/2 hr hula hoop on the Wii and 1/2 hr on the recumbant bike. The plan for tomorrow is to do the abs section of Reebok Cardio Tone DVD, hold my plank, then take the extremepump class.
M - what a beautiful pic. That beach looks so tranquil.
NYKaren - happy birthday and anniversary to you and your hubby. Hey, gals, we've got a youngster among us!!! What a wonderful gift!!!!
Tere in VA - good thoughts being sent your way.
DJ - why won't the state let you do basket bingo?
janetr - how you must be hurting over the loss of your rings! That's really questionable how the owner so quickly said "they're gone". I lost the ring my father gave me at the Y and I still think about that to this day. It's been about 10 years. I just keep saying of the girl who I know picked it up "she probably needed it more than me" And then your molar! Lanette had a good idea - the rings just might show up in a pawn shop...or on eBay Wish I'd thought to file a report as soon as the ring from my father disappeared. That ring probably wasn't worth a whole lot -- my father couldn't even afford to own a car! But it's the sentimental value that meant so much.
I wasn't happy with the lemon cookies I'd made for Mexican Train so I made this chocolate cake. It's cake with marshmallows on top, then M&M's then melted icing to seal in the M&M's. I hope it's good. Update: now I'm sorry I said I'd go since that is the day of the State of the Union address and I'd really like to see it. Maybe I'll DVR it.
katie - our church has a bi-lingual mass. It just takes sooooo long because they have readings, etc. first in English then in Spanish.
dmcnur - welcome!
Marcelyn - I totally and completely feel for ya with your septic issue. Every house we've owned has had a septic. Actually, before we could sell our last house, we had to replace the entire septic! Yuk! Jess has city sewer and just can't understand why I put all my grease (really, any liquid) into a jar and then throw the jar out when it's full. To me, it's that much less that's going into my septic. When I go to her place, I can't help it but I turn off the water when I'm washing the dishes and just use it to rinse the dishes. I've just done that for so many years, I can't get used to being able to let the water just run and run. This is the first house we've had that has city water. Ahhhh....to be able to take a shower and someone else flushes the toilet and you don't lose water pressure. It's the little things.

Called my Navy Nuke son and school is going well. He's now a whopping 158 lbs! Being that he started boot camp a mere 119 lbs, he is really gone thru some physical changes!

Janet, so sorry about your special rings. Hope your insurance company is better than mine. And I, too, obviously have suspicions of the attendant who seems dodgy as! It would certainly be worth finding out who the Big Boss of the gas station is and having a quiet chat with them. What a nasty thing to have happened. Will just say some prayers that they will be restored to you. Wendy4

Caught up reading again. So easy to get behind.
Heather - I still think your accomplishments are impressive! I have no idea what my BMI is these days. I'm avoiding that information right now.
You looked so great in your costume.
Such a wonderful experience to share with your cancer friend.
Lanette - Great minds think alike but I did my fish in the oven then picked off most of the batter. Delicious.
Rita - Yes, I am doing the duolingo for Spanish. Today I am 52% fluent. I am looking into classes in town for either Spanish or Italian. Beginner, of course.
I'm sorry that you are on the receiving end of a bad mood. It might improve once he has the surgery.
Lenora - I'm not a big fan of MRIs either. They just don't help with claustrophobia. They do give the doctors valuable information.
drkatiebug - I vote for the grey but it really is what can you afford and which would you like to live with.
NYKaren - What a great surprise! A trip to Rome! Now that's romantic.
Happy Birthdays and Happy Anniversary !
Katla - You have a courageous granddaughter. I will count her as a Warrior Princess. I am glad that they are taking care of it now
Allie - I hope everything goes well with your son and he receives the treatment he needs. You certainly have had a rough go of it. Do something for me. Take your arms and wrap them around yourself. Now squeeze tight. Just imagine that is me hugging you.
Janetr - 11 1/2 hrs is too long a drive for pretty much anyone.
I am so sorry about your rings. Money will never replace them but it could help you. I agree with everyone else that the gas attendant was being evasive and that he knows perfectly well where your ring is. Please file a police report.
I am also sorry about all the pain and suffering from your tooth.
At least you are home safe and sound.
Actually slept in today but woke up with charlie horses in my legs and now my hip is really bothering me. What is up with that?
Larry's brother arrived today but I don't know how long he is staying. Larry did the potatoes in the Instant Pot. What is the point if you then have to microwave the potato to make sure it is fully cooked.
I made glazed carrots, celery and onion in the slow cooker. Keira helped me make brownies for dessert. Jheri made her leave before they finished baking. So, Jheri had to make brownies when she got home.
Bev and Les joined us for dessert and coffee. Bev offered to do some fixing on Richard's 40 plus years old jacket. I think the fabric is rotting away.
I couldn't believe some of the things that came out of DBIL's mouth. Does he know he sounds racist and bigoted? I won't give them added attention by writing them here but WOW just WOW. Did he really say those things and how much of it does he believe. If these are the things he truly believes then I would like to kick him out of our house. What do you do when your spouse's sibling acts like an ignorant a**?
Keira asked "Grandma, did you teach Mommy to bake?" Yes, I did. "Grandma, I'm going to teach my kid to bake
because that would be tradition"
Keira had a sewing lesson with my sister today. Keira says "I hear that you fought with your Mom about learning to sew and that's why she didn't want to teach Auntie Bev" Not quite accurate.
I did say something to the effect that I didn't need to learn to sew , clean or cook because I would have people for that. It didn't stop my Mom from teaching me. Later she would ask me "Where are your people?" I'm still wondering that.

Hello ladies:
Just started week 2 of my new job as Breakfast Club helper, it's going well so far. I leave my home at 07.20 and arrive back at 09.20. I walk there and back and am on my feet the entire time. I'm starting as lunchtime assistant today which will be a repeat of the morning. I'm hoping the extra walking and being active whilst there will be beneficial to my health and weight loss. In between the two today I'm going to see my dear old Dad in the nursing home. He is 91 and recently had a week in hospital with a chest infection. The poor old thing has Parkinson's and dementia, but, still knows us and we manage to chat about a few things. I was very sad for the ladies on here that recently lost their dear Dads, I am dreading the day that mine passes away.
All the best

M: Loved the beach photo.M - what a beautiful pic. That beach looks so tranquil.
Thanks ... we really like living so close to the beach. I waded in up to my shoulders yesterday and bobbed around in the water a while. It was lovely! The water is so clear there and has finally warmed up.
When I got home, I found out that a 3-metre Great White had been spotted up the East Coast a ways. It's unlikely they'd come into our bay, but then again, the next bay over has had dolphins and about a month ago, there was a decent-sized whale.

Last night (Sunday night), I was up till 2 am finishing the next stage of the project I'm working on for my university class. I didn't get as far as I would have liked and was nervous as can be this morning when I headed off to class (after only 5 hours of sleep).
We had our "what's on the exam" lecture ... that was frightening enough! But then we all had to do 5-minute presentations (front of class, with powerpoint slides) on our projects telling each other what we'd done and how far we've come.
Fortunately, I wasn't the only one who was floundering. There are some who've got a good handle on what they are doing and they are well advanced. But then there are a bunch like me who have made a start ...
However, I must focus on that project this week. I'm back to work tomorrow, but I'll be working on the project in the evenings.
Tonight, our heat wave broke and so my husband and I walked to the beach and back in a cool drizzle. Then I did a weights workout downstairs.
Now ... that project.

Good morning!
In case there are any of you who liked (or missed) the Broken Brain and wish to see yet another 7 days of probably similar presentations about health, there's another one starting February 1st.
This should you in the site to register if you wish: www.livelongerfeelbetter.com
There's not a lot of information on it other than they'll be revealing "little-known" secrets for a long and healthy life. Dr. Joe Mercola is one of the presenters and he's a big fan of intermittent fasting and high intensity interval training as I recall. I'm not sure if I'm up to sitting through another batch of videos, but I'll at least check this one out.
