I think that website you mentioned above is really great, lots of good ideas. And YOU gave me an idea. The tallest public building in our county is the courthouse - 4 stories. I need to remember when I'm in town to walk UP the stairs and back down again. Some of my co-workers used to do that on their breaks. In retrospect, I wish I had joined them.
I think I've tried a stair machine once, and didn't like it at all, but climbing real stairs is all right, and it is an easy way to fit a bit more exercise in my day. It doesn't take long to climb 10 flights of stairs, so I can do that on a little break at 10:30 am and 3:00 pm or so.
At first, I huff and puff all the way up, but the more I do the easier it becomes.
And it helps a lot for walking and cycling up all the hills around here.
Oh but ... the day after the first time you do it, expect your calves to be sore. That's from the descending! But they get used to it after a bit.

It's a very common term used in Australia and New Zealand.2 -

Wendy - you are to be commended on your motherly instincts! Smart thinkin' making a list!
Allie - (((HUGS))))
Becca - (((HUGS)))) as well. I've been my DH's reluctant caregiver a couple times and don't look forward to being it again, tho it may come to that. I don't want to be the "strong one", darn it. I am weaker than I let on!
I ran across an article recently in WebMD about how to curb anxiety: https://www.webmd.com/mental-health/features/ways-to-reduce-anxiety. A lot of it is run of the mill advice, but I really liked #5 and it follows Barbie's advice about staying in the moment. I've been using it when my brain gets caught up in everything that could go wrong when/if my DH has vascular surgery in the near future:
5. Follow the 3-3-3 rule.
Look around you and name three things you see. Then, name three sounds you hear. Finally, move three parts of your body -- your ankle, fingers, or arm. Whenever you feel your brain going 100 miles per hour, this mental trick can help center your mind, bringing you back to the present moment, Chansky says. (Repeat, repeat, repeat if you need to!)
Hope this helps!

Yes those do help, stay in the moment! Thank you friend!

@costalgosgal Things will get better and there is always something to be thankful for. A favorite aunt use to say: this too shall pass. It’s the truth too. Hugs and have a blessed weekend. ❤️❤️❤️
My favorite aunt used to tell me, " all shall be well, and all shall be well, and all manner of things shall be exceedingly well!
I need to thank my lucky stars! And of course I thank all of you!

Pip- looking at your relaxed fur babies makes me feel relaxed.
Mine are currently tearing around the house after a squeaky toy. The relaxing for all of us will come later, lol.

Lanette, for many of his procedures, and transplant, I have gotten to be with him. The last time, they actually brought in a folding bed. I was able to take a shower in his room as well. Husband ordered a couple of items for me to eat, a side salad etc. It gets me into the mode of caregiver as well. Seeing what the nurses are doing.

Becca- sweet friend ,the serenity prayer works for me...the future is not promised ,a day at a time dear friend.
That is how I am taking my life right now a day at a time.
Hugs sweet friend. I appreciate you!

Allie, I was wondering what Tom was doing through all of this. I'm glad he had enough respect for your Dad and you to assist. I still pra so hard every night for you.
My dear Becca, I a,msomglad you broke down with your hubbie and he was able to bring you down. You two love each other so much and that is what will get you through his problems right now. I agree with Allie. The Serenity prayer works every time.
Wendy, you are such a flirt. I'm glad it made you feel good to feel young again.
Well still having problems with a low blood pressure at times. Yesterday my doctor dcreased one of my meds from 4/day to 3/ day. But today we needed to go to Sam's and from there to Walmart. Walking around Walmart, I could tell I was getting dizzy. I was wearing a sweatshirt and even if I had gone over to where they have the blood pressure cuff, I would have had to take my arm out of my sweatshirt. I'm not doing that in public. Well if some one was there to make sure I was completely covered from the public and made sure I had my coat around my mid section that was all exposed. So by the time I got home, put stuff up and sat down it was 126/66. That is low for me and I didn't stand up for awhile to see if it dropped. But the one medicine I was supposed to take at that time is to be held if it is lower than 130. So it still means that doctor needs to continue to lower some of my meds. I am also trying to increase my fluid intake. I am supposed to call th office Monday. I'm glad he is keeping s close check every week. He really is such a wonderful guy. He is 62 and looking for a young guy to be in the office with him to take over whenever he feels the time has come to retire.
Still watching the 4 Continents Figure skating.
Still have t decided whether to go to church tomorrow. The pain in my hand and face is still there fairly severe and the blood pressure issue. But I haven't been to church in weeks. That's just not me.

I don't know why the information is wrong, but there is a way to change it. If you're using a computer, click on "Profile" on the home page, then "edit profile". I can't find a way to change it on the phone app2 -
Missed two days, now 13 pages behind, will catch up later.
Heather this one's for you:
"A newly qualified doctor arrives for his first day at a hospital, deep in the Welsh valleys. He is met by one of the sisters, who has been given the task of showing him around the hospital and introducing him to the staff and patients.
It is a large hospital and it takes the whole day to get round. By late afternoon they are working their way through the psychiatric block and as the time approaches for the evening meal they arrive at the last ward. They follow the dinner trolley into the ward and wait while one of the nurses lifts the lid on the food tray. To the doctor's surprise there is but a single haggis on the tray to feed a whole ward.
One of the patients moves towards the trolley in a purposeful manner addressing the haggis,
Fair fa' your honest, sonsie face,
Great chieftain o the puddin'-race!
Aboon them a' ye tak your place,
Painch, tripe, or thairm:
Weel are ye wordy of a grace
As lang's my arm.
Before he can reach the haggis another patient sprints forward, grabs the simple repast and dashes up the ward. He proudly holds the haggis aloft and cries out in a commanding voice,
Some hae meat and cannae eat.
Some cannae eat that want it:
But we hae meat and we can eat,
Sae let the Lord be thankit.
At this, a kilted dervish leaps from his bed, whips a skien dubh out of his sock and lunges at the haggis carrier. With a deft movement the haggis bearer fend off the flashing blade with the haggis. Although this prevents any injury it does result in the top of the haggis being hacked off. A small mouse obviously waiting upon this event dashes out from under a bed, grabs the loose piece of haggis and scampers up the ward, running the gauntlet of slashing claymores and hurled dirks from various patients. At the end of the ward stands a bent and wizened old man with a wild fire in his eyes. He screams at the mouse,
Wee sleekit, cow'rin, tim'rous beastie,
O, what a panic's in thy breastie!
Thou need na start awa sae hasty,
Wi bickering brattle!
I wad be laith to rin an chase thee,
Wi murdering pattle!
And then dives upon the poor little mouse. With a left dummy and a right feint, the mouse dodges between the old man's legs, through a hole in the skirting board and to safety with his prize. The doctor turns to the sister and asks, "Why is this psychiatric ward so full of Scotsmen?"
"Oh no, doctor, these are not Scotsmen, they are genuine valley dwellers born and bred", she replies, "and, anywa, this is not a psychiatric ward, it is the serious Burns unit" "
Mindful and WARM Hugs to all,
Barbara, the Southern Oregon Coastie AHMOD.

You know, I'm thinking that if I go back to Mexican Train, maybe I won't even bother to bring a dessert. I'm not a dessert person, and it looks like there are going to be a lot of desserts. Who needs a whole lot? Two or three is enough, not 8
Lanette - thanks for the link. I've bookmarked it and plan to watch it soon
Becca - your husband sounds like a really wonderful man. You are so lucky to have him. Then again, he's so lucky to have you. You both are so lucky. Absolutely love that picture of the cat in the flowers
M - I get the Skinnytaste posts too! I'm a meal planner, but I just find that I can't follow someone else's preset plan. I like to do my own thing
Did someone say something about walking DOWN stairs on a stairmaster. CRS now. What was it?
Barbara <groan> thanks for the smile.

@barbiecat Thank you. I am using an IPAD. If I can’t fix it I will leave it alone and reside in Jester.1

Did someone say something about walking DOWN stairs on a stairmaster. CRS now. What was it?
I walk up and down real stairs, but not a stairmaster.
Any time I talk about doing stairs, I'm talking about real stairs, 20 steps per flight, with landings to walk across and everything.

A phone photo, so not the best quality, but I just walked back home from there. It's a gorgeous 30C day, and I spent about an hour bobbing around in the water and wading up and down. This is "our" beach, and is about 1 km from where we live, and it's one of the things I really like about living here.
It was all happening down there today ... a group of sea kayakers went past, several jet skis stopped by then dashed off, several yachts went by, and the Pennicott cruise boats went slowly past, probably this cruise: https://www.ironpotcruises.com.au/?_ga=2.267377678.1093880924.1517116294-1973049560.1513245492#tours

More tired than I thought I would be. Christmas party was a resounding success. I am so tired though and it isn't that late. Can't keep up with the kids. Lol. Tomorrow Larry's brother is coming to pick up the table that we paid for him. I'm not sure what we are having for supper or how many people yet?

I've still not caught up with all the posts, but will keep reading.
It's a cold grey miserable morning here, but at least it is dry! The fields where we walk Leah are just so muddy, Leah is not too pleased as we've had to bath her or at least hose her down she's been so filthy. It is not too bad on the common, but it's a 20 min car ride away and petrol has just gone up again, so Heather is trying to save a bit of money by walking her close to home.
I'm enjoying a cup of coffee and a short break before getting back to the housework. I've moved things around in the dining room and got rid of a large old fashioned sideboard. Trouble is it held a lot of stuff (junk ? lol) now I've got to find new homes for it all or seriously think if I really need it. I am a bit of a hoarder and hate to throw things out, but I have been trying to de-clutter for the last few years now, so will just have bite the bullet and get on with it.
I've told my boss that I will be taking early retirement this year and sooner rather than later. Can't afford to retire really, but I'm getting to the stage where I want more time to myself and do things when I want to do them instead of having to fit them in around work. In the UK the retirement age for women was 60 year old, (65 years for men) but a few years ago the government changed it to 66years for both men and women, so I was quite annoyed that I had to work even longer. I'm not 66 until 2022 so will have to rely on my works pension for 4 years. But hey ho I'm sure I'll manager (I'll have to lol)
As you can probably tell, I'm feeling much better, although I still tire easily and need to pace myself.
Hope you are all keeping fit and well.

Sharon I have just seen the birthday cake for Harmony - Wow! amazing cake and what a pretty little girl. (I can understand why you had to have a piece of cake)

LANETTE thanks so much for the link to Broken Brain just watched Episode 3 which was only one I missed
Will now catch up and post later
Kate UK2 -
Enjoyed the Birthday party last night, wasn't particularly good but not too bad. Nice thing was our niece paid for it all (nice surprise which we didn't expect) Out today on our date Sunday so back on track tomorrow.
After watching Broken Brain i am going to look again at Keto not sure if I can do it but will have a look. I am also going to try turning off ipad tv etc for a while before bed and will get a good vitamin and mineral supplement.
VIV I was lucky enough to be born in 1945 so got my State pension at 60 and then retired at 65 from my job. It is absolutely outrageous the way the Government moved the goalposts. Anyway enough of that as we tend not to get too much into politics. Good luck if you do retire, finest thing I did, really enjoy my life, but realise that you need a decent enough income to live comfortably.
Off to exercise now, all have a great Sunday

Morning Ladies, DH and I shared our birthday and wedding anniversary (21 years married) this weekend. He turned 55 and I am 56! I actually had to remind myself how old I was, thought i was turning 57, hee hee. Anyway, we spent the day together, going for a drive and had chinese lunch special in a little town upstate--twas simple and fun... went shopping for jeans for him, poor guy needs a new pair but can't admit he needs the next waist size up, so he keeps walking out of every store we tried
We don't exchange gifts but he surpised me with a trip to ROME(!) this coming February. You know I would never plan and execute travel, so he did it all and it's just for the two of us, no kids, no MIL, just the two of us for 6 days during winter recess from school. So of course, I'm scared, but I'm excited and gonna increase my steps at the gym so I have the stamina needed. DH tends to walk til you drop when sight seeing, vacations do not mean beach chairs to this guy, it means going, going, going. Feeling blessed.
NYKAREN13 -
NYKAREN - Yippee Rome!!!!!! Fabulous! I loved it and, yes, you will be walking your legs off! I didn't get on with the food there, too many carbs for me, but we had an apartment and I cooked fabulous things we bought in the market. My cep omelette was to live for! You can buy multi tickets for the trams etc. from the tabacs, which we used, as our flat wasn't in the centre, but mainly we walked for hours.
February could be chilly as the wind whistles down the Tiber.
DH and I talked last night about booking a short break for the early spring. I like to fly from our local airport, so I will be looking at destinations. At the moment I'm thinking Lyon, in France.
Lanette - It's so great you are taking charge of your health, both bodily and mentally. Personally, I wouldn't give up complex carbs and dairy as they are very important nutritionally. Milk is an important source of iodine as well as calcium. And wholegrains are hugely beneficial. Of course the vegetables are vital, not least for fibre and gut health. I wouldn't bother with extra vitamins and minerals if I were on a good diet. Good oils and fats are vital and best eaten.
Having said that, I do take beetroot for blood pressure, turmeric for inflammation and D3 as I avoid the sun. I'm taking the tart cherry juice, just to see, but the jury's out on that one.
Whatever you are doing, you are bound to be doing better than the average person who is killing themselves with Dead Food and a swamp of toxic fat around their middles and organs. Those are the killers. Exercise is the repairer. Moderate and occasionally vigorous. Often weight bearing.
I'm sorry you are worrying about your brain health and very sorry that your DH has such serious health issues.
wesseqs - what a devastating thing to learn. I hope you will be able to get your brain back on track. I have a question - does normal horse riding damage the brain? I was thinking of all the jolting. I really don't know. Do you? I know you have had serious falls.
Back to routine today. :-) Weather nice, so I will do my c25k. Then must get back to my editing.
Love Heather UK xxxxxxx

Happy Sunday Ladies!
You've been quite busy. I had a job interview in DC on Friday and spent some wonderful time with my Mom. The interview went well. I am praying for some great news on Monday! I will have four hours of commuting each day but have decided that I will spend the night with my mom on Mondays and Thursdays if the workload is heavy. It will all work out and I'll have a chance to spend some time with her. Say a prayer for me!
Tere in RVA8 -
Heather - It is so great you and your DH are on the health journey together. I don't know what I'd do if my DH ate the way I did, lol. Wish he would, and he's getting better at it but I think all the meds he's been taking for his arthritis have compromised his stomach, plus he had colon surgery so sometimes his digestion is iffy.
I've designed my own eating plan - cutting back a bit on dairy to see if I can stop the sinus headaches and it seems to be working. Still eating yogurt and cheese - milk in coffee now and then. I have a slice of wonderful sprouted wheat & grain toast for breakfast each morning and a couple servings of fresh fruit each day, plus lots of beans, nuts, winter squash, etc. My complex carb intake is off the charts, lol. I crave crunchy salads. I'll admit I ate a whole avocado last night - it was getting on the soft side and I knew a half wouldn't keep another day. I did NOT wake up hungry this morning, lol.
Margaret's ideas about improving sleep came at the right time. If I don't sleep well, and especially if I wake up in the middle of the night with a sinus headache, I am almost guaranteed to have brain fog. Coffee can take the headache away but the fog is still there, lol.
And turning my little tablet to "blue screen" in the evening really does make me sleepy!
Speaking of beetroot - I found a good recipe for spiralized carrot and beet salad so will make that today.
Viv - so interesting about them moving up the retirement age. Here in the US, they moved it higher for younger folks many years ago, but they are given years to prepare for it. Having a work pension sure helps. You'll enjoy your retirement and having time for YOU
Becca - sounds like the nurses will take good care of you both.
Joyce - what does your doc want your ideal blood pressure to be? I think it's true the older we get, the higher pressure we need so we don't get dizzy (up to a point of course).
Kate - glad you were able to watch Broken Brain episode 3. I think that was my favorite one.
Michele - I think it would be neat if they had a Stair descender next to the Stair climber at the gym, lol. According to some, descending stairs puts more stress on bones than climbing them, hence helps to build up bone in our hips.
KarenNY - Enjoy that trip to Rome That's a super anniversary present Congrats! Sounds wonderful!! Have you been there before?
Tere - good luck on the job! Staying with your mom sounds like the perfect solution!
Where's Rori? I hope Katla's visit to see the kids and grandkids is going well.
Lanette
