    Just for Monday
    1. Journal every bite :)
    2. 64 oz of water :)
    3. Walk around the block x2 >:)Took Maddie to vet and she isn't supposed to be walking so much yet after her recent spaying. By the time I was ready to go alone it was drizzling and windy. I need to get some out some of my clothes and shoes for this weather.
    4. PT exercises / leg lifts and balancing ;)Still not doing very good with the balance thing, but working at it.
    5. Laundry >:)Doing it now.
    6. Watch Brewers and Cubs play-off game at noon :smiley:Great game!
    7. Finish top of Bex's quilt :)Finishing touches today finally!
    8. Read one chapter of a self-help book >:) / Start new fiction book tonight :)
    9. Pay bills :sToday
    10. 5 fruits/veggies :/3/5
    11. Gratitude Journal :) / Simple Abundance daily reading :) / Dodie Osteen book daily reading :) / unplug & sleeping by 10:30 :/ (close....11:15) / up with Maddie early :)

    Tiny Habits:
    1. After I get up in the morning, I will dress in sweatpants and a sweatshirt.
    2. After I put on my sweats, I will take Maddie for a walk.
    3. After I take Maddie for a walk, I will take a shower.

Well, I can see I will have to change my Tiny Habits because they just aren't happening. I kind of set myself up to fail on those though, because the habit is supposed to be something you can do in a couple minutes. That's where the word "tiny" comes in. Taking a walk takes much longer than that!

I'm having kind of a conundrum today with Maddie. She is the sweetest, gentlest dog I've ever met. I just love her. But I'm starting to think that I won't be able to give her what she needs. I have until Thursday to bring her back to the Humane Society for refund, but it's not about the money. That sounds so callous. If I were retired and could stay home with her forever, I think she would be the perfect fit for us. However, I will be returning to work in a few weeks and her breed is very energetic. My husband would be caring for her while I'm at work. But he isn't in the house much. He has a wood shop in the garage. So I need to trust that she will be good in the house alone but she is a bit of a chewer and is mischevious. He did not want the responsibility of another dog, and I took full responsibility for her. But I really thought at her age she would't be much of a chewer anymore. She likes shoes, bathroom garbage (kleenex and also likes to see how far through the house she can run with the end of the toilet paper roll, stringing it through the house which is actually kind of funny but not to Tim), any really anything her height is fair game for nibbling on. I figured I could work with her on that, but now she just slipped her collar while outside on the chain (I let her out for a few minutes) and husband found her in the garage. I'm already attached to her and love her to pieces, but again, I'm not the person home most of the time. Sorry for the whine, but my heart is trying to decide what is best for everyone. Seems like that is all I do lately. Whine.

Keeping today's goals pretty simple. I plan to relax and putz around house while husband goes hunting later and think about things.

Oh no! Can he not have the dog out in the shop with him? What about kenneling while you are at work? It seems to me that you really enjoy the dog and should be able to find a way to keep her.
I understand your dilemma though, we have thought about a dog several times over the years and always decide against it because we work all day and wouldn't be at home with it. I also, am always fearful that something big would happen and we couldn't afford the vet bills.

I bought my first Christmas present last month for Michaela. I haven't started thinking about this years purchases yet, but I guess I better get on that.

I bought my first Christmas present last month for Michaela. I haven't started thinking about this years purchases yet, but I guess I better get on that.

This past year after our lab passed has been lonely for us, and I was so happy and felt to grateful to find such a sweet gentle little girl that just wanted someone to love her! I've tossed around your ideas and some other things I thought of, and I think I can take care of the collar slipping problem for now by purchasing her a harness-type collar that she cannot slip out of when outside. In the meantime, I will begin saving toward fencing our yard in next spring. I've wanted that done since we moved here almost 4 years ago. I also think a kennel for while we are gone for hours at a time is a great idea. I had planned to get her one when I brought her home, but Tim thinks it's mean to put them in "cages". Personally, I think it is meaner to take her back to the shelter! I have two more weeks before returning to work, so that gives me time to work on her manners and the house rules. I love her and she deserves to not be given up on!

I get easily upset when my husband makes passive agressive remarks about things that weren't his idea or that he may not have agreed with, and I am the kind of person to do whatever I can to avoid conflict. This one I'm not giving into so easily. Thank you for letting me whine and for your ideas @Snowflake1968 ! Little Miss Maddie isn't going anywhere for a while. Besides, she's good for my health--both mental and physical!

P.S. Christmas ideas: We have 18 grandchildren and 4 great-grandchildren, so I have to start at least planning pretty early! It's crazy and I no longer get to spoil them since there are so many, but I like to try to do something for each of them still. :)

I'm so happy to see you sticking to your guns on this one! It seems to me you go along with everyone else all the time, so you deserve this and shouldn't be made to feel guilty about it!

Wow I had no idea you had so many grandchildren. My paternal grandmother had 33 grandchildren. I don't remember the number of greats. I am one of the youngest so her greats are actually my age. She never did anything for the greats for Christmas or Birthdays, they had a knitted sweater, hat and bootie set at birth.
Grandsons that were single got hand knitted socks or gloves each year
Granddaughters that were single got hand knitted mittens or slippers

Married Grandchildren received a homemade quilt as a wedding gift, I was the last one to receive one, she couldn't actually finish mine, so my other Grandmother finished it. It is one of my greatest treasures. Married grandchildren for Christmas got either tea towels or pillowcases.

Her children got sheet sets or Readers Digest subscriptions for Christmas.

It's funny, now I try to do for my Sons in Law the same that I did for my girls growing up. Although last year since I wasn't working I cut way back. I think I'll do the same this year. We still had a good Christmas and it cost me much less.

@PackerFanInGB Congrats on the new addition to the family! Do you have a doggy daycare local to you, or even a dog park? I have a herding breed and she is nearly impossible to tire out on my own - but I bring her to the dog park for 20 minutes and shes out like a light. We do daycare once every other week and shes tired for two days. We also do lots of puzzle games, happy to share some of those if you're interested. She was very mouth oriented for a while (liked to chew WIRES eeeek!) so we did a rotating bunch of frozen kongs filled with all kinds of different things, and marrow bones to chomp on - she eventually grew out of it. Was she crate trained before? If not, could you give her her own room thats closed off and dog friendly while your out?

@PackerFanInGB Sorry about the dog dilemma!
    What breed is she?
I think there are ways you can keep her. I am able to fully secure the kitchen so mine can't get upstairs and then there's a baby gate from lounge to kitchen. So when we go out we put his bed in there and his water and food are already in there. We move everything right back and leave nothing on the sides or floor so there's nothing to chew. If you're worried about her chewing cupboards you can buy chew deterrent spray.
Kongs and treat balls and bones help pass the time for her, you can even buy plug-in fresheners specialised for cats and dogs that release a calming scent for them
A dog walker for midday? Just so she burns some energy? Even just to be let outside for her 'business'.
My dog can slip his collar because he has a thin head (whippet) so on walks we have a harness. Although sometimes I don't use it because he's stopped messing around on the lead and his recall is mostly okay.

Also, crate training can be positive for you and dog when done properly and the dog can see it as her little sanctuary. Google it and show your OH its not all bad!

@PackerFanInGB There's a dog park so close to where I live! It's part of the Brown County park system, off of W. Mason / 54 and County FF. I walk by there all the time (and make *ahem* doggy deposits at their trash cans). We don't actually go inside the fence (permit required or daily fee) since our dog and I love our long walks. Plus, she's not entirely socialized with other dogs, and I'm never sure about her reactions. We also have a large, fenced in backyard so she gets to run all she wants. I love that you want to give Maddie a chance!

Here's a link for details on the area parks:

Okay guys so I popped back in the thread to 1st September where we all gave suggestions for Challenges.

The two that I've found we liked the most was

The Daily Mile: walk/jog/sprint a mile a day.

7 min workout (daily) there's an app for this.

As the weather is getting colder we won't want to be outside as much but a mile outside or a 7min workout inside will keep us moving!
And as last month was focused on nutrition (5 F&V) I thought this one could be activity based.

    Sooooo which would you prefer?

Only doing this because Joan is MIA(where are you?!?!) so thought I'd just help us out!

My friends have left ... and I have one week before our grandsons and son are coming for a visit. Its been a crazy busy couple of months, and I am SO far behind on reading all the posts on here ... but I haven't forgotten any of you!
So my goals for tomorrow will be simple, basic, on plan again
    1. drink water - concentrate on getting in 8+ glasses
    2. log all food
    3. concentrate on 5+ veggies
    4. go to the gym

Oh ... and this is me. Still need to lose those last 15 pounds, but at least this year I have maintained, and I think because of the gym, actually toned up a little. So @Bex - you had asked what shape we are. I have no idea of what shape I am ... I am just big all over.

WOMAN IF THAT'S YOUR IDEA OF BIG... I'LL SWAP WITH YA... YOU'RE GORGEOUS... OH MY WORD... I'M HAVING A FIT OVER HERE IN NORTH CAROLINA... ARE YOU SERIOUS? WOW! I love that photo of you. My My My... OH MY! Lol. If I were your size, they'd have to hog tie me to the bed... I'd go out and buy every little black dress I could and stroll just to get a gander of myself. Whew... Ok First.. Let me apologize. I'm not trying to be offensive or insensitive.
I respect your feelings. And I never want you to feel you can't express your truth. I do apologize. Please forgive me.
But do me a favor and really look at my profile picture. I haven't weighed what you weigh since High School. I developed TOXEMIA with my first daughter and blew up like a blimp. Doc wouldn't allow me out of bed unless I had to go potty. My Mother, God rest her soul. Took care of me the last 3 months of my pregnancy.... I kept threatening to miscarry the whole time. With my third daughter, the doctor forced my labor and I ended up having to have a C-section because my baby was in distress...only to have him not sew me up, but taped me instead and I caught and infection in my belly and it turned ganegrene and I almost died. From that point on I got bigger and bigger. I did Slimfast, Special-K, Vinegar, and Soup Diet... The only other diet that really worked for me was THE MAKER'S DIET, but I couldn't keep it going because it was expensive for me to eat ORGANIC, WHOLE FOODS, AND USE UNPROCESSED PRODUCTS. Oh yeah and add the grapefruit diet to that list too.
I can honestly say that I am shocked that you don't know how beautiful you are. I'm awe struck. Thank you for sharing your picture. Thank you. Again, please accept my apologies.

    THANKFUL TUESDAY!!
1-LET'S FACE TUESDAY WITH COMMITTED POSITIVITY 👏

2-SMILING ON PURPOSE EVEN IF IT'S A GRIN AND BEAR IT SITUATION

3-THERE"S MORE TO BE THANKFUL FOR THAN TO FROWN UPON.
MAIN ONE..BEING THANKFUL FOR BEING ALIVE, THE PEOPLE IN THE HOSPITAL WOULD TRADE PLACES WITH YOU...💡

4-WE'RE WORTH THE EFFORT WE PUT IN TO OUR JOURNEY

5-WE'RE NOT ALONE, WE HAVE EACH OTHER AND JOINED CORDS AREN'T EASILY BROKEN 💪
💝I HOPE EVERYONE HAS A RESTFUL NIGHT, AWAKEN REFRESHED, AND HAVE A SUPER DAY TOMORROW.
    MUCH LOVE,🌹

You are so happy and positive - I love number 3! I have spent the last year remembering to be more grateful and thankful for what I have rather than what I don't. It was really noticeable to me and probably anyone that had to put up with me the week after my birthday that I need to do this constantly. I forgot to be thankful and was only looking at what wasn't going right. My mood sucked and I didn't even like myself.

Yep! We're kin alright...lol. I had that one but worse on Saturday. I got over it too, but OH MY LORD what a B I was on the inside. I didn't take it out on anyone, but the thoughts that went through my mind were ridiculous.(sp)
I love you SISTER. We learn, we practice, we grow. I think we are our biggest critic when it comes to self judgement.
Hugs...And we are gonna get through this thing called WOMANHOOD...lmbo

Mary -- this is all so sweet of you to say, and thank you. You lifted my spirits! But you know, we all see ourselves the way we do ... and others see us different. When I see your profile ... you are very beautiful - both inside and outside! We are all so fortunate to have you on this thread!

But I do hear your struggles with weight ... believe me... I have those same struggles. I was always on the upper end of the scale, weight wise. But my real weight problems started when I lost my first sibling from cancer in 2001 -- he was only 52 years old. I quickly gained 40 pounds .... because I am an emotional eater. I eat when anything stresses me, and I didn't even care. When he lost his battle with cancer, I vowed that I would lose the weight "for my brother, who would want me healthy". Well, 6 months after my brother died, my only sister passed away unexpectedly (she choked to death). She was only 55. So there I gained another 10 pounds. One year later, my dear SIL passed away from melanoma ... again, another 10 pound. I would go and visit her, and try to be so strong for her... only to eat for comfort when I was by myself. Then our only daughter was diagnosed as schizoaffective ... and I gained another 10 pounds +. Hers was the hardest, because I see her everyday, and if she has a bad day, I reach for my only comfort .... food.

When I lost another brother in 2008 to cancer (he was only 53), I was up by almost 50 pounds. I joined weight watchers, and lost 45 pounds. Only to regain them when another brother (who was only 63 yrs old) committed suicide in 2012.
So the struggles are very real for me, as they are for you. When I turned 65 I did join a gym, and that has probably helped me a lot in at least toning up a little, and not feeling quite so badly about myself. But I see the scales, and I know a healthy weight for me is to lost 20 more pounds.

This is why I started this thread, and this is why I hope to continue with this thread. Somedays I just can't find the time to get on and post a lot (my husband and I both work out of our home, so my days at times can be very long). But I will be 68 next year, and I hope to do everything in my power to life as long as I can, to live as healthy as I can, and to do everything within my power to try and stay young! And I know you can to! Just the fact that we are all still trying ... we will all get there. But we all have those same struggles. Yes, I have done slim fast ... the grapefruit diet ... the cabbage diet ..... atkins diet ... you name it. Now, I just hope to learn to eat healthy foods (and learn to eat other stuff in moderation!).

But I do thank you for the wonderful compliment. ... but trust me .... weight struggles are very real for me, as they are for you. But one day at a time ... we can all get there. We can live the life we want, and feel the way we want to feel. I keep telling myself that just because I lost 4 of my siblings, all of them before they reached the age of 63, does not mean that I will live a short life. I hope to live to be well into my 80s, but I want to be as healthy as I can, for as long as I can.

Sorry for the long post. But I want you to know that you are certainly not alone in the struggles... and we are all in this together. We all understand. We all care!

I've been exercising about 5 days a week so either is fine for me. I'm going to re-do the Veggie challenge...just now getting the hang of it, lolol, and I still am not up to the five servings. More like 3. Kind of like the 8 glass a day challenge..I've gotta work my up to it.
    Thanks for doing this!

My thoughts exactly. You have some great lookin' legs there! Looks like you go to the gym a few times a week, lololol!!! (and it is showing) Very inspiring picture.

Sorry I didn’t make it on last night. A very difficult day yesterday. My sister was readmitted to hospital with an infection and the results of the tests on the tissue they took came back and were not ideal. Turns out she had cancerous cells on the side they thought was healthy too. They are saying that it is also non-invasive thank god and hopefully no change to future plans but I’m worried and blindsided and devastated for her. And I’m so frustrated because I can’t go and see her or help my mum with her kids because of this stupid cold! And my dad has had to go on a trip so my mum is doing it all on her own.

Plus I haven’t heard from my boyfriend for a couple of days and he hasn’t even picked up my message updating him yesterday!! And work is still rubbish.

So feeling very sorry for myself but then also guilty because it’s far worse for others in my family. Arggghhh!

Ok, so I'm trying this again...
(((( @mytime6630 )))) You really do look amazing. I'm not saying your feelings aren't valid hon, I'm just saying that from the outside you look great. The first time I got down to my goal weight I was forced to leave my marriage. When my kids and I were in the women's shelter there was a client that was so angry with me. She couldn't understand how someone that looked like me could have a hard life. I got to tell her that I wasn't always this weight, that my new self didn't stop what had happened to us and that I didn't see myself as slim even at that. Really, when I look in the mirror now I still see myself as the fat girl.
((((( @maryrobinson40 ))))) I've been divorced from my wusband for 20ish years now (see above). There's a big part of me that gets sad every time any special day passes. It took me a long time to figure out that I was having anniversary reactions. I very much enjoy the majority of my life but there are still sad bits.
(((( @HEGoddard0928 )))) Happy belated! I love your new profile pic.
(((( @PackerFanInGB )))) Sounds like you're doing awesomely. Did I read that correctly? You'll be heading back to work in only 2 weeks? Your haircut is so cute too.
((((( all the rest of you too )))) don't think I'm not thinking of each and every one of you, just running out of time tonight. <3

Okay so I'm going to choose The Daily Mile!
I did like the idea of the 7 min workout because I hate the cold and that's something we can do at home! But it's not just about me lol!

I though even though it's getting cold it's not TOO cold and there's nothing like ice or anything to prevent us going out.. (or is there? @snowflake1968 ?) so the 7 min one could be for when it's colder, or better yet the December challenge seeing as we will be eating more around the festivities!
    Anyway..
    OCTOBER CHALLENGE

    The Daily Mile!

The Daily Mile (TDM) is basically a walk jog or run for 1 mile (typically around 15 mins)
We should try incorporate The Daily Mile into our daily routines; whether it is a jog to work, a run at lunchtime, or a walk whilst socialising with colleagues and friends.

"Trish Gorely from the University of Highlands and Islands who researched the benefits of The Daily Mile for children, said if adults did The Daily Mile every day for a week, they would have already achieved two thirds of the Government’s recommended amount of exercise. The WHO found that if people walked a mile more each day (between 15-20 minutes of walking), it could prevent 15,000 deaths per year.

I am going to implement one rule, doing the food shop does not count! and its a rule because I know I will use it LOL
Remember it's a mile extra on what we already do!

    Good luck everyone!
