Feb 1st is in the books. No alcohol, but I didn't sleep well and woke up feeling pretty crappy anyway Tonight I am going to go for *gasp* another dry night. I almost always have 1-3 drinks on a Friday night to cap off my work week. I meet my running group on Saturday morning for one of my longer runs and it isn't always that easy to make myself get up. Tomorrow we have 9 miles on the schedule and then I will go straight to the food pantry where I volunteer. I am looking forward to doing this all with a clear mind tomorrow. but, I admit that the thought of a dry Friday at home is a bit daunting. Wish me luck!
I'm impressed that you can drink 3 drinks the night b4 and run 9 miles the next day!!!!
Yeah, I'm not sure what that says about me!1 -

I am contemplating one glass of red wine at one of the Italian restaurants we like to go to. It's Friday and I like to unwind after a long week. I really am not craving a drink but the bartender always buy us one round on him. We'll see

Day 30 yesterday no alcohol and today is day 31. I have no intention, nor desire to drink.12

This thread is already getting big! I am in for a mostly dry February, I have a weekend out of town next weekend and then that will be it. Looking forward to doing this with you guys!4

Made it through Day 2 and it’s even a Friday evening. Hubs drank and I just watched. Felt good to not want to be asleep by 9 pm. Looking forward to a great morning again, I have to get up at 5 am so this makes it soooo much easier. Until tomorrow AF friends!5

Giving myself a high five because I enjoyed “girls” happy hour and dinner where wine was flowing and drank only San Pellegrino with lime. Today was day12 in a row. Getting easier. I think I’ll be fine at tomorrow night’s 90th b’day bash. Not cocky though.7

Day one is in the books.
I don't generally count calories, but decided to start about two weeks ago to gear up for this. BOY is it easier to eat within my goals without wine.
2/1 dry
2/2 dry (friday night, even. After learning my credit card was stolen, even)

Day 33 dry. Had a fun evening with friends. Went to a bar for drinks and appetizers. Felt fine just drinking club soda, of course:)
Then went to hear an 80s band and friends continued to have more drinks. Must say that I felt a little left out not drinking but had no temptation to drink. It just felt a little awkward, so instead, I danced a ton to the music.
Afterwards, the gang went to another bar and I came home. I know I will feel so wonderful tomorrow morning when i wake up. Have coffee , exercise and relax in the morning. No regrets at all not drinking, but I can see why people start to limit going out to bars when they're sober. It just feels different. Xo13 -

Good for you @JulieAL1969 - I can see that too. But at least you’re still going out and having fun. My guess is over time you (and I’m including myself in that) will come up with other ways to connect with friends - coffees, walks, museum visits, movies and other outdoor activities. I’m not trying to stay completely sober but tonight I just had no desire to drink any wine. I craved my tea (what?!) this never used to happen!2

I think all of my food choices were pretty ok tonight. I had like 5 drinks instead of 3 though! >_<3

Had a bit of a new thing happen this week ... had to get my husband to emergency in the very early hours of Wednesday, and (don't worry!) he's fine and will be home tomorrow. I mention this because in the past this kind of stress would give me a perfect excuse to pick up some chardonnay to drink after a day at the hospital ... some "me" time .... but I am glad that didn't really happen, and it's been so much better to be as a duck, as they say, and not having to devote any thought or planning to getting through wine o'clock.7

Hi everyone, happy 3rd feb! I went to a friends last night and drank water and juice and then was able to drive my friends home which felt really good as I've only just learnt to drive.
I managed dry jan and hoping to last feb too. It aides my weight loss so much, I've lost 8lbs since the start of jan! I sleep better too and I'm working out more.
Here's to a great feb

So glad to hear of these successes. I am up and at em at 6AM, relaxing and having my coffee before my group run instead of doing the usual grab and go. It felt pretty good to make dinner and hang out last night knowing that I normally would be drinking wine and trying to make sure I did not drink the entire bottle so I could run in the morning. Instead I made the decision not to drink in advance and it was still a nice Friday evening as usual, only minus the wine. Bonus is that, although he won't say that it's intentional, my husband is drinking way less also. Last night he had a beer when he got home and one bourbon after dinner. We both were in bed by 11 watching TV.6

2/1-dry
2/2-dry
No drinks since last Sunday. This is my third week in a row of not drinking through the week. Like the other runners here, it's making my long runs on Sunday so much easier. The only problem is that I feel like I've earned a few drinks on Sunday night. I'm really going to try to stay dry this week though, even with the Superbowl. We're not having anyone over this year, so it should be easier. Fingers crossed! I'll just keep reminding myself there will be a hangover free Monday morning at the other end.8 -
Happy Saturday folksies!
It’s gonna be a quiet one over here. Gonna get my workout in, then later today possibly go to a nursery with my husband to maybe get some plants for the house. I don’t have a green thumb at all, but I really love a home with nice greenery about, so I’d like to try!5 -
Last night was the post Dry January celebration. Had a great meal out at an Italian/Southern soul place (weird, I know, but good). Split two bottles of excellent red wine between three people, so I had 2+ glasses, maybe 3. Despite how good the wine was, I kinda felt like the experience was meh and that I could take it or leave it. Those two bottles were also really expensive, so our dinner tab was pretty up there. Great company and lots of fun, but I didn't need alcohol to experience any of that. Also came home and ate a ton of chocolate, because . . . I don't know. Was kind of drunk and just sounded good. I, of course, woke up in the middle of the night with a headache and was super dehydrated. I'm fine this morning, but not to the point where I can get out there and do the usual morning walk/run. Still moving slowly, and don't like that feeling. I had fantasized about the first wine I would have after not drinking for 32 days, and how great it was going to be, but all in all, it wasn't nearly as thrilling as I thought it would be. I had planned to go back to drinking, but just on weekends. Now I'm not even sure I want to. BTW, the Fre chardonnay (no alcohol) was absolutely hideous, as I thought it would be. Would much rather have tea, diet gingerale/coke or a Polar.8

Good morning! Sounds like a peaceful day. There are a lot of house plants that are good for you in terms of cleaning the air. Like Peace Lilies, Boston fern, ficus ,etc. xo3 -

Hangover free Monday- i like the sound of that. Have a great run! I am a slow runner, but I really want to build up my distance! Have a great day!3 -
@kittybenn I have been looking forward to hearing your thoughts on your planned splurge. I guess I am not surprised after how good you have been feeling. I am starting Day 15 and these reminders are so helpful. Today I am going to get some sparkling water and some yummy juice, I haven't done that yet. I hope you get your mojo back quickly ;-) ((hugs))2

@katie5467 8 pounds weight loss is fantastic! Great work- staying dry. It gets easier, doesn't it?
@lporter229 What a peaceful, calm evening! Have a great run!2 -
I've been lurking here and on the January site and I'm inspired and fascinated by all of your stories. I've kicked my daily beer habit to the curb so that I can lose weight and generally be more healthy. I've had a few occasions to have a beer or glass of wine and I've done so but the daily habit is gone and I am thrilled. Like many of you, I feel better, exercise more, eat healthier (and less!), and I am losing weight! I am in this for the long haul so will continue to "hang out" with all of you for inspiration and encouragement! Here's to a very damp February and beyond.9
