Hello all! good morning and happy Saturday!
Cheri- Psssst! I saw that little smiley face! Hello dear friend! Hope all is well with you!
ttfn xoxoxo KJ (Kelly)
All is well Kelly thanks for taking notice.
Just returned from a week in VA with our daughter. Despite my concerns/worries over the hubs being with me we had a wonderful week. He loves lists and boy did we have one full of house DIYs for him to keep busy. Unfortunately due to everyone being sick to some degree we did not see family. We self-quarantined! Daughter recovered nicely from the crud with mom's help and we returned home healthy. We wiped down every possible surface on each of the 4 planes we took and hand sanitized ourselves to death! I was sad not to see Karen in VA on this trip but by mutual agreement for our health we thought it best.
Our son has accepted a job at Ernst & Young back in Chicago. Although we have thoroughly enjoyed having him live just down the road in Houston this was a great career move for him. He flew out this morning for an apt. hunting few days. Despite the weather up there his plane was only delayed an hour.
I find myself a bit in the doldrums regarding this fitness journey at the moment. Not sure why but am evaluating and not going off in the opposite direction. We are back into the gym routine so hoping that helps to get me back into the swing of logging, gratitude journaling, quilting and papercrafting.
We are currently looking for a home. Our rent is up in June. Many nice options as the real estate spring season ramps up. We are both on the same page of only having a home that is the size of our needs. No empty rooms. We have done wonderfully moving down here from a 3000 sq ft home to the current rental of 1750 sq ft. I do want to have room for the kids to visit.
Reading with love and concern and joy all of your journeys. Know that I am in your pocket cheering you on!

Thanks for all the support and well wishes. You all are the best!
Sharon yes I am still doing the Spanish! I am at 53% and finding it much harder now than at first. Are you using the Tinycards app to reinforce the Spanish? I find those very helpful.
Lisa in NC Why not send son food instead on money. You could set him up on one of those delivery plans so he always has food. No money to waste that way but not going hungry. When my son was in a bad place, I gave him grocery store cards, towels, sheets, things he wasn’t likely to sell for drugs but things he needed to be comfortable. I felt like I was helping him, not supporting his habit this way. He wasn’t happy it wasn’t cash, but I felt better and he stopped asked by for money through using guilt on me.

Hi, ladies – I have been lurking for so long, I feel like a stalker! Been using MFP for about 2 years, and lost about 50 pounds – but after a flareup of a chronic health condition, a wonky knee, and reduced activity coupled with increased/unhealthy eating, I’m up about 25 pounds. Determined to take it off and more, but could use some accountability and Pip’s boot.
I’m 64 (how did THAT happen?!), single, retired, living in South Central Pennsylvania USA, and although this may sound contradictory, I am healthy other than having a chronic health condition that can flare up periodically, limiting my strength and stamina. Lately, I’ve had a wonky knee on the right side, so that’s a little restrictive as well. So with all that, I have to rely more on my nutrition plan to restrict caloric intake, than on exercise to use up the excess. I probably have a total of 50-60 pounds to lose to get to a healthy weight, but am taking it in 10-pound increments so as not to get overwhelmed.
Reading your daily activities has been inspiring and hopefully will give me that kick I need to be consistent. I am in awe of the consistent dedication of Barbie, Pip, Heather, Michele, Mary, and some of you other ladies, and it obviously pays off. It paid off for me in the past – I just got out of the habit and lost my way for a while. I have a small dog so I do some walking around the neighborhood, and some at-home exercises, but since I recently moved, I haven’t yet gotten back to the gym. I need to do more pre-planning of meals and dedicating a period of time to exercise, instead of my recent catch-as-catch-can way of doing things.
So here’s to getting back on track, and a healthier happier future!

Hi Ladies,
Did my first yoga stretch 30-minute routine. Didn't burn a lot of cals, but really felt good after all the heavy workouts this week. Had coffee today(first time in 2 months) Really enjoyed it. I missed coffee. I only drink it on the weekends, but during the elimination diet, I wasn't allowed to touch it. Pip, good for you with burning all those calories. WTG! BTW, your dog is adorable. Michele in FL, I have a couple of Prevention DVD's and I really like them. Well, I need to make my lunch and get ready for church so I'll sign off. Have a great weekend everybody.

Pat in PA, Two things that have contributed to my consistency on this weight loss journey:
1. I started on MFP at age 62 after decades of failure in the weight loss game. I decided to make health and weight loss my highest priority...the first thing I considered in the morning....the driving value above pleasing family and friends....and ending my love affair with food as entertainment and recreation.
2. I read books and articles about healthy eating and weight loss to learn more....also books about will power and habit formation ("Better Than Before" by Gretchen Rubin is my favorite).
Barbie in beautiful sunny NW Washington
P.S. In a few minutes I'm meeting a friend to go for a walk so we can talk about what's going on with us. I now meet my friends for a walk instead of a meal or a beverage.5 -
Sharon in Lethbridge, I like that chair too! My living rooms have been primarily tans, greys, and blacks. I have been inserting reds since moving to Oregon. Our greyish tan loveseat and couch came with a rug, but its a bit too dark for me.
My reds are nicknacks here and there.
My placemats
A scarf thing I have on a tall video cabinet
So with the rug it screams dirty with a speck of something! Plus I want teals, or yellows!
Sharon you are very rational with life, you look at all sides of a situation. Hugs to you! If I see Mr Orb in the sky, I shall tell him to visit YOU! With heat and everything!

Pat in PA - Barbie is right, habit formation is one of the best gifts you can give yourself. I don't think about my habits now, I eat similar things at similar times of day and do very much the same exercises at the same times. It feels odd not to do them. I love my routines. (My only struggle is with my writing routine, which has been a challenge all my life, but I am getting there and getting good at taking "micro actions". ) I, like you, have a dodgy knee and do exercises every day to strengthen it. I also exercise my feet, arches and ankles, as I have pronation. I also exercise my pelvic floor and my face. Some of these I can do on the sofa in front of the TV and many I can do on a small mat, or while cleaning my teeth.
I started my search for health five and a half years ago, when I was in a very bad way, obese and with limited mobility. I would never have believed I could be in the shape I am today at 68.
Habits take a while to form, but once formed, take no willpower to keep going. It is worth the initial effort.
I have retained my love for food, cooking and eating out, but I have lost all desire for hurting my body with unsuitable foods. I still have a weakness around alcohol, but have more than halved my consumption and have mostly alcohol free days. That feels great. I wish you all the best in your journey. :flowerforyou:
I started putting my paper revisions on my laptop this morning. Did a major "cut and paste" . I've started now, so I will finish.
Been reading "Running Like A Girl", by Alexandra Heminsley. Might be a bit British for some of you, but she writes quite a bit about Brighton, where we hope to move to. Very good, funny about her struggles with running, honest and not at all preachy.
Tandoori Monkfish for dinner with brown rice, tomatoes and cauliflower. And raita. Yummo! And alcohol free beer. I've discovered a foolproof way to cook brown rice in the IP. Hooray! Had some for lunch, mixed with my IP sprouted beans and salady bits with pomegranate seeds. Heaven. Even DH liked it , though he said it tasted "very healthy" .!!

Rye, your robe stealing cat is very cute! Looking so innocent too.... cats are good at that!
Sharon, sounds like you know what you want, my hope for you is that Larry is on the same page. Would he consider some sort of counselling or anger management? Perhaps he is abusive because he doesn't know any other way to be? Was his father abusive towards his mother? Such a complicated issue, thinking good thoughts for you.
Kelly, I would like to be one of your kiddos too please! It would be so much fun to spend the day doing crafts and napping! lol
Becca, loving the teals, blues and greens! I like your red also, I don't hear any screaming..... lol.
Allie, I know it's tough to change the habit of turning to Tom for advice but I am glad that you realize that may not be to your advantage. I sure hope your brother can get his "stuff" together and be a help rather than a hindrance. As for the reverse mortgage on your dad's place, I would think that you would be able to get an extension from the bank, or they may ask you to start making payments. Then my advice would be to sell it as is, don't spend any money fixing anything up, you don't need the headaches! Just sell it, split whatever is left after the mortgage is paid off with your brother and call it a day. Good luck to you.
Heather, running for 25 min is such an accomplishment! I remember the first time I ever did that, even though it was several years ago. It was such a rush! Unfortunately, my back and hips have decided that running is something I should not be doing. Perhaps if, no not if - when, I get rid of 25 lbs or so I will give it another go and see what happens.
Terry, WooHoo on your clothes all being to big for you!! Doing a little happy dance for you! (can't do a big happy dance, back would protest!)
Joyce, I am also confused as to why the weather needs to be warm for someone to install a railing for you. Must be for his convenience. In the meantime, you are being put in danger! I am glad you weren't hurt this time, but...... Take care of you!
Lisa, a few ladies had good ideas, instead of sending money (which I know can be so much easier!) perhaps a gift card to a grocery store near him, or arranging for some sort of grocery delivery might be better for him. Is there any way you could do a grocery run of some sort? Or is he just too far away for that to be possible? I completely get that you can't just do nothing, but it would be a shame if he was using the money for drugs or alcohol instead of food.
Too many posts to mention everyone. Have to send a couple of hugs for people to "take one if you need one!" So glad I found this group or thread or whatever you want to call it.
Thanks for the get well wishes, I too hope for speedy healing, but it's not looking that way today! Just have to take it easy. Quads are getting a heck of a workout tho! Have to squat rather than bend down to pick up anything! Tying up my shoes this morning was interesting...... (one foot on the floor, the other on the third step up in the house, I can bend forward, just not down!)
Hope everyone has a great day/night!

Happy Saturday! Is anyone else tired of the cold? UGH. My body is physically yearning for warmth and sunshine. I switched jobs 2 months ago and went to a new company, so I have no vacation time accrued yet. Otherwise, I'd be outta here for a week somewhere warm!
Enjoying watching the Olympics so far. I am amazed everytime I watch luge...I cannot imagine even wanting to try it! I mean, who on earth started it? What were they thinking? I'm going to lie on this little tiny piece of plastic and plummet down a slope of ice as fast as I can and see what happens?! Holy Moly! It sure is exciting to watch though.
Allie, I'm so sorry for the struggles you've been through for some time now. I have to agree with the ladies...please do not discuss financial with Tom until the divorce is final. I've been divorced and in the end, my ex tried to get my retirement and much more...which he had a lot of nerve even thinking about since the bum refused to hold a job, help pay bills, help take care of our kids or really anything helpful....oh, but I digress! haha! Little animosity there, ya think? Please watch out for YOU! When it comes down to it in court regarding financial agreements, that is when you see the other side of a person. (((HUGS)))
Mary in AZ (used to be Mary in MN): It's so good to see you! How do you like life in AZ? Quite a change from Minnesota. I'm from Mpls and my dad lives in Brainerd, MN but bought a house in Mesa, AZ for winters and loves it! I've never been there but I can't imagine living where there are no autumn leaves, etc. Dad says it is a different kind of beautiful.
Well, I'm going to get busy and try to get something done today. I can't seem to tear myself away from watching the Olympics but I'm going to have to or my butt is going to be even wider. By the way, I loved Wendy's little talk with her butt. Funny!

Just got off the web after getting groceries set up to be delivered to my son. Y'all rock. Made me feel SO much better. Pretty sure he won't get much from grape tomatoes and canned chili on the street to support whatever habits he's developed.
One more reason to love this place and you people.
And Rita - happy to play Words with Friends, sure! Will send you my Facebook link if you want to send a friend request. - It's in your MFP messages, or should be.

Rye - adorable kitty
I looked at myself naked in the mirror today. Seems that no matter what I do (and I thought I was doing the right thing), there is this roll of flab around my middle. Hate it. I do watch my food intake, you know that I exercise. Guess I'm just going to have to find what works for me. Hope I can get rid of because I really hate looking at it. This morning I just had on shorts and a sports bra while I was exercising since no one really saw me. I could see my reflection on the screen on my laptop. Yuk those rolls. they disappeared when I raised my arms, but I certainly can' walk around like that. Any ideas of what I can do.
We went to this one second-hand store that uses the proceeds to help the homeless and made a donation. Didn't find any clothes or pictures for the condo, but I did buy (again!) some more exercise DVD's. Don't know how they'll work out, but they were only $1 a piece. Habitat for Humanity sells them for $3 and so does the Salvation Army by us. Went to WalMart and got some almond milk, a paper, and some shredded cheese. They only sell the unsweetened almond milk in the larger box. Hopefully, I can finish it before it goes bad.
Went to the ceramics place here. Got a seahorse that I can use on the pergola. Vince got this shuttle. Wish people would make big pieces, everything is so small. And such cute things, just everything is so small. Then went to Lowe's to take some tubes for recycling. At least they're out of the house. Then to WalMart, then the charity place for the donation, then home and in the pool. Warning: I'm getting used to a pool You can bet that I'll be pestering Vince to get our opened as soon as I get home....lol Got dinner ready so all I have to do is pop it in the microwave after church tonight.
Michele in lovely FL right now3 -
Haven't been able o get on treadmill, with arm in splint. Definitely don't need another tumblr. I have previously done the Taylor Swift move n it by flying off the back of it. Hade MRI in late January, before my 2 falls when I hit my head hard, so MD ordered a CT scan. It did not show up anything. Told him it showed I'm hard-headed at least. He laughed and said he wasn't going to go there - Louis would probably agree with me. HAHAHAHA!!!!!
Go back this Thursday for a follow-up. Still hurts at the site of the fracture point. But now beginning to be able to maneuver things with right hand, still hurts, but pushing through it.
But because I sit to the let of table in den and phone right there, I try to answer it. Just have a hard time reaching over with my left arm to do so.
Have so many MD appointment this net 2 weeks, wondering if I should just hide out in Starbucks and walk to all but one of them. Louis has not been particularly happy. I keep telling him that I am trying to make as many appointments on the same day, just cannot help that they aren't working out that way. Also cannot even do much to get them as early as possible.
Lenora - in the rotating door of like4 -
Lisa - good going with the grocery delivery! These ladies DO rock!
Allie - you have so much on your plate. Lots of great ideas here on that too. Hang in there!
Michele - don't be too hard on yourself. I also get perturbed at my extra "skin" around the waist and hips. We celebrate that it's better than it used to be!
Evie - hope that back is feeling better as the day goes on today. Ice and stretches seem to help when mine is acting up. When your back hurts, everything hurts.
Pat in PA - welcome! Good to see you joining in.
Becca - I love your décor. Isn't the time getting close for reconnecting with your son?
Barbara in OR - Teletubbies? Seems like I was working long hours when those were on. DH and I were reminiscing today about some of the good "old" TV programs (late 50's-early 60's) 77 Sunset String - Edd "Kookie" Burns, Route 66, etc.
Joyce - I'm saying a prayer the guy who's putting up the stair rail can get to it ASAP!
I'm making a batch of spaghetti sauce in the crockpot today. I found a pint of my own canned tomatoes and dumped it in with 2 cartons of Pomi tomatoes, added sautéed onions and seasonings. We have left over roast beef in the fridge, I'm thinking maybe some "Italian roast beef" sandwiches for DH. I'll just spoon some over my salad since I'm avoiding breads as much as possible. There will be several pints of sauce left over to freeze. Love freezing sauce in wide mouth glass jars.
OK, I think DH and I are the only people in the USA who haven't watched the Olympics so far. I see it is on one of the SlingTV channels - maybe I can get DH to tune in tonight.
Waving HI to the rest of you - running out of time here.

Lisa, good for you for setting up the grocery delivery! This way you know he's got food and I'm sure he will be grateful. Maybe he'll be like kids in school "Hey, I'll swap my grape tomatoes for your peanut butter!" lol
Lenora, I broke 3 ribs several years ago and I still get twinges every now and again. Dr figures it's just scar tissue that formed that is breaking down. Takes a long time for some of that "stuff" to go away.... Hope your dh can come to terms with the fact that you aren't making these dr's appointments just to annoy him, but that you need to be taking care of you!
Michelle, our new bathroom has a lovely large mirror. I dislike walking in there in the altogether and seeing my reflection, especially the belly area! Wish I knew some tricks to get rid of it! You're absolutely right tho, can't go thru life with our arms in the air! lol
Heather, I was making myself a veggie burger a few days ago, hubby asked what I was making because it smelled so good. I offered to make him one, but he declined. lol I really liked tho!

Tracie- we love living in Arizona! Today we went to a parade! It is almost always sunny and we can go outside and enjoy our lives instead of being stuck inside for 4-6 months out of the year. Your dad is right about a different kind of beautiful. The mountains and cactus are quite wonderful to look at! We're looking forward to 20-30 years of enjoyment here.

Lanette - regarding the "flab", the thing that bothers me is that I never used to have as much flab. Recently it seems to be just multiplying. I just have to work more on loving the body I have.
Mary - what a neat festival. thanks for sharing.

Rita: Exercise often helps my mood, too. I hope your DH gets his hernia taken care of asap.
Heather: It is good news that your son will be back to work on Monday. :flowerforyou:
Dr Katie: I got an iphoneX while we were travelling. DS and DDIL have them and encouraged me to give one a try. I miss my old phone, but I've sent it to my diabetic DGD so that it can be used to help track her blood sugars. She has a sensor implanted that gives constant blood sugar readings and the phone automatically forwards the readings to her school nurse, her mom and her medical team. As to the new phone, I'm starting to get around within it. If push comes to shove and I'm not happy with my skills I'll take a class at the Apple "Palace" in downtown Portland.
Michele currently in FL: We watched the Olympic opening yesterday, too. There was lots of pomp, and a partial miracle for Korea. By combining their athletes into a unified team they've taken an important step. The event I watched was curling. I haven't seen much of that in years and enjoyed watching. :flowerforyou:
Barbie: I watched curling with my DSIL yesterday. The Korean pair won the match against the American brother and sister. I remembered seeing curling on TV as a child, but that was a long time ago.
DSIL & DBIL will be here again tonight and are leaving for home in the morning. Later tomorrow I will have a riding lesson, the first since my teacher's Christmas break. I was sick and didn't have enough energy to ride for quite a while & then we were travelling so I've been away from the stable for a very long time. I haven't been to yoga in over two weeks, either. Next week I'm hoping to get back into my groove.

Michele - having dealt with being heavy all my life, did a lot of research. While you can get better muscle tone, which will give some appearance of spot reduction, anything that touts "reduce" a particular area of your body is bogus. However, you can reduce some overall body fat by building muscle--you ought to get your body fat percentage checked. Bet money with all your exercise, you're close to low normal already. Anything under that can be hazardous to your health. This is actually a really good article on body fat percentages.https://www.oxygenmag.com/fat-loss/the-fit-womans-guide-to-body-fat-9235
Edit: the reason I was interested was because I had lost so much weight so fast when I went in the military I was down to about 11% body fat (90 pounds in 90 days - I was 19, and stupid). And I kept fainting the first couple weeks in basic training. They found out why when they tested me, and made me start eating more. Thereby beginning a cycle that still tortures me.2 -

So looking at my scarf and place mats, they totally clash! Never looked at them next to each other! They are far enough apart to blend I suppose!
Texted with an artist who is in the Whidbey island rock group, and he's painting me a rock with a Navy anchor, and our names. He does a really cool job. He was doing a free giveaway on the group site, so I put my name in saying I have three Navy sons and a retired Chief! I didn't win the giveaway, didn't have enough LIKES on my posting, but he did message me saying he had an idea to make me a Gossett family rock. So it will be a nice rock to display proudly. It won't have middle sons wife's name on it. I know she's a Gossett but I wanted it to be just our rock. Hopefully she won't be hurt by it. She is gaga over anything Disney, so I'm thinking if I get an artist to do one up for her alone, it will make up for it.
Okkkkk, just had a scary morning! Husband getting really dizzy, getting sick. So I just called the EMTs and took him to the hospital in Seaside. Followed them, just wanted him to be monitored from point a to b. When I got there he was just getting situated, the doctor comes in after a bit, looks at him and says, "you're really yellow". So a symptom of jaundice we've never seen before, the dizziness. So off to Portland he went. I doubt a liver doctor will be able to see him tonight, but tomorrow. I told him to call me this evening. Like our other jaundice episodes, I stay at home until he tells me to drive in. Usually he needs an ERCP, but he just had on 1-24-18, last month. His surgery was to be on 3-14, but he is moving that date up! Poor guy, he is so strong, but he was fighting the dizzy spells. The anti nausea medicine would wear off and I would bug the nurses. I'm glad I canbe his voice sometimes. Right now though, he is just settling in, answering questions.
So on the way home I stopped off and got chips, sour cream and a tomato, and because I am feeling a bit overwhelmed, a four packet of apple fritters. I have already had one, and will make up a small nacho plate later on. I am on autopilot right now, and the fritter sugar has made my splitting headache go away.
Please send me good thoughts.
