Janet & Mary - I've been intrigued by the idea of kettlebells, and you've inspired me. I think I'll find out of there's a place here in town that can get started on how to do them right. The down side of living in a small town is that we don't have the resources I had in Austin. No lap pool, no belly dance or tai chi classes, etc. I mostly stick with things I can do at home these days.
That is exactly why I do kettlebells you can buy them at WalMart if you wish, they are relatively inexpensive, you can easily store them just about any where as they are small and I can use them at home when ever I take a notion to I Googled vides on how to swing the kettlebell. Mary gave a terrific site to check out and he shows very detailed movements. I have forgotten the name of that site but Mary would have it.
So thrilled for you that you reached onederland today. Great job, it's so exciting to reach goals.

Pip, that's my 11 year old self kicking in. Saying "Happy VD" for "Valentine's Day" used to be silly when I was a kid. Sorry if I offended anyone
Lanette
i was joking.... lmao!! i wouldn't get offended by that.
OK then. Apology retracted, lol. Happy VD Happy VD Happy VD Happy VD .
I haven't had this much fun since 5th grade!
Hey, speaking of abbreviations, DH watches Bloomberg a lot and they keep talking about "AI" startups. When I first heard of that, I was kind of confused..... being an old farm girl (and a fan of Dr. Pol) "AI" meant something way different in my book. Even humans use it to be in the family way.
I gotta get with the times!

SueBDew in TX I'm sorry to hear about the need for further dental work. I absolutely hate going to the dentist, luckily I have pretty good teeth. I was pretty surprised when this one broke. The dentist told the receptionist when she walked be back up front that I got an A+ for the day. She knows I hate it.
Take care of yourself and follow doctor's orders. I've never had a bowel obstruction but it sounds miserable.

Barbie, thanks, it helps to know someone else has had the same experience. It will be good to get the visiting done and enjoy my own life back. It's raining in Phoenix today and it feels so good. All the relatives decided they didn't want to go out in such weather and so I just walked and enjoyed. Will be back on deck with visiting tomorrow but for today, my DH and I can relax and do some together time.
Vickie, welcome and good luck with your February goals.

Vickie in No Cali I so well know that feeling of no response from other sites. It's not like that here. This is a terrific group of concerned, supportive ladies with one common goal.....to live a healthy lifestyle and feel as well as possible for our ages lol
Welcome and let us know any questions or concerns you may have.

Hello dear sisters and Happy Valentines or VD Day. I think I have had the most boring day ever. I love everything about the Olympics, especially Lear ing new sports. But today curling was on. It was Canada against Great Britian. I had no idea a curling match could last as long as it does. How d people sit through that. But Canada eventually won. It was interesting how one stone would completely wipe out the other teams stones completely out of the house. See, I leaned some words. But I don't understand the physics of the sweepers at all. I just wish USA was a little higher in the medal count. But it is all about the world coming together and I like that. I always like to see the medal ceremony. I can see Mascha doing some of these endurance sports. Oh, as far people with food waiting for all runners or cycles are through, if I were doing that, someone would have to come look for me.
I called he pharmacy and my Lyrica will only be $45! I was afraid it would be several hundreds of dollars and was so please Charlie didn't blink an eye at that type of price. He knows how this affects me and what the pain does to my blood pressure. I have no idea how long it will take to get pain relief. I hope it is just Ike a pain pill and its immediate.

The shooting in Parkland, Florida @ Stoneman Douglas High School hits home. We called Parkland our hometown for 11 years and our children grew up and went through the school system. We have family and friends currently living in Parkland who are living a nightmare right now. When will this kind of terror end?! My heart hurts for these children.

NORTHERN CALIFORNIA!! Breathe friend.... I used to live in Vallejo, and in Vacaville. Miss the golden grass hills! Hey, if you see that heated orb dude, you know in the sky? Direct him to visit me at the Northern coast of Oregon!!! *sighes* I miss good ol Mr Sun.
This is a great group of ladies, some I chat with specifically, and others shake their heads at me! But that's life, that's personalities, and that's how we do it. I can't even comprehend texting to everyone, there is over 100 posters on here. But you know, if I have a stress I need to share, unload and mentally carry these supportive ladies in my pocket, I can.
Welcome again!

Vicki, welcome to the group. We are a chatty group but also very supportive. I have never tried any of the other groups. I found this one and didn’t need to look further. Pop in anytime.
Had a nice day. DD got us heart shaped cookies and yes I’ve been eating them. Guilt free!
DH gave me a nice card and buttons. When I saw them I said “buttons?” DH said they were made from nuts and shells and thought I could do something with them. That’s what happens when you have a artist husband, you get unusual gifts. Now I’ve got to get my thinking cap on and come up with something. Jewelry???
That’s about it for today. Hope everyone had a good day. If your day wasn’t great I’m sending you ((hugs))

Did the 20-40-60 workout on the treadmill for an hour today. I dont understand it, maybe it's the humidity but I would think that they'd keep the a/c higher, but I get so so hot. The plan for tomorrow is that I will probably use the treadmill/elliptical and then take the Power Hour class.
Happy Valentine's day everyone.
KJ - poor Joaquin, hope he's better real real fast. He's a fighter, so I'm sure it won't take too long before he's back to normal
NYKaren - i know you'll have a good time in Rome. Even tho you won't be counting calories, I wouldn't doubt if you'd lose. That usually happens when you go on vacation, especially in Europe
M - thanks for the info about seeing friends. It's that I can see almost all of his friends, but I'm not there. Yet, I know that I get his posts on my main page. Strange
For Lent I'm doing the "eat only when I'm hungry" thing. I tried this once before and failed. I'm thinking that maybe right now I'm ready.
Picked up my new bowling ball today. It's so pretty. Vince asked me yesterday "why do you want a new ball". My answer? "because it's pretty" not that I needed it, just because it was pretty. I did get a new bag, my old one was ripping and it will only get worse, it already has
DJ - love hearing from you, even if it's just dropping in to say "hi". Is it multiplemyloma that your friend might have? I have a friend who has that. Beautiful flowers. You deserve them
Love all the animal pics
Yvonne - yea for onederland!
Lanette - I don't think you insulted anyone with the "VD" day. Only pip would think of "venereal disease" day
Evelyn - yes, the person's name does appear in my list of "friends" on FB
Vicki - I'm sorry I didn't welcome you. Maybe you came at a time when I just had to skim and just said "welcome everyone new". Love having you here
Janet and Mary - Jess asked for these kettlebells for Christmas because you can empty them, then add just as much sand as you want. You can add more as needed. At first I thought that would be really good for traveling, emptying it and then filling it when I got to my destination. Then I read that you really shouldn't add liquids. Most hotels don't have sand, but they have water. So I didn't get those but I guess it was something she felt she'd use.
Speaking of Jess...did I tell you all that she wants to establish NC residency? Mainly because she'll be out of the country for a few years and things like insurance are much cheaper in NC than in VA
janetr - do you know that Jess is 34 and she's NEVER had a cavity? NEVER. The dentist said that's because I gave her the fluride tablets as she was growing up. So when her teeth were forming, the fluoride formed INSIDE her teeth, unlike me who goes to the dentist to have a fluoride treatment ON the tooth
Joyce - I hope your pain goes away real fast
Becca - I love crab, I just don't really know how to shell one
Want to take a shower and then probably watch a little TV

Hi all: Happy day! Having a good day. Got DH to a Drs appointment and we had lunch out. I ate half and brought the rest home. We had snow here this morning. My little dog is loving it. She romps around and pushes it with her nose.
This is Nessa our new labradoodle puppy. She is 9 weeks old.
Everyone take care, Sue in WA

Sue, she is just so cute. I've been trying to talk my hubby into a little cuddly puppy, he's having none of it.

Yvonne- congrats on getting to onederland.
Welcome Vickie in S CA . We have two Vickie’s now.

Maybe he's got it set up so that friends of friends can see his post, and you're just a friend of one of his friends ... not directly his friend.

But, received no replies, hugs, hearts or even a friendly welcome. I know it can be difficult for some to be accepting of a newbee. But, really? My apologies for sounding frustrated. I am hoping for some support and to be supportive. I am hoping to find it here. I have been fighting my weight for over 20 years. And, feel the need to stop fighting. I'm really getting to old for it.(lol) Thank you for your time. It is greatly appreciated.
My Goals for February are
1. Log my food every day (so far, yes!)
2. Be a part of a discussion here or another on a daily basis
3. Walk! Walk! Walk!
4. Be a positive support to a least one member

You need a thick skin and a sense of humour to post on forums.
Funny thing ... I've been posting on different forums since about 2000. Long time now. Over the past year or so, I've had bloodwork done a few times, and each time they've mentioned that I've got really thick skin! I had to laugh ... maybe it's all those years on forums.

Sue - adorable puppy
Michele who would rather be in FL right now1 -
Sue - Nessa is adorable -- what an intelligent face! I can see the poodle in her! I'll bet she'll be easy to train and a very loyal companion for you and your family. Give her a hug for me!!
Becca - if you weren't so far away I'd drive down for that crab feed. YUMMY! I don't mind cracking crab, a pair of pliers works fine. Dungeness is my favorite! Love your sayings. How's the Chief doing tonight?
Sue and Janetr - sending you healing thoughts for your dentist experiences.
Pip, Rita, Pat - love your dog pictures! Pat, how old is Pup-pup? What a doll!
Joyce - loved the photo of your kitties! So glad they are getting along so well. I see what you mean about Mozart being a big boy. When we got a second one, it never did make up with the first one - maybe because they were both adults and set in their ways.
Hope everyone had a good Valentine's Day!
We've been watching the Olympic Ice Skating today. Enjoyed the skiing jumps and snowboarding the past couple days. The luge made my neck and abs hurt, lol.
New ladies coming on here with concerns about weight loss and health problems...I am a fan of strength training. I thank Barbie and Mary and Heather and Michele and Kate in the UK and Pip (and there are several others of you who are escaping me right now) for getting me off to a good start last year. Barbie with the "Strong Women Stay Young" book and you other gals for being such a good examples of the power of exercise in weight loss, helping with maintenance, boosting metabolism after menopause.
Rye found the link for "Strong Women Stay Young" book - I think it's here: http://growingstronger.nutrition.tufts.edu/ with the free downloadable book.
I've been strength training with little dumbbells and ankle weights in a room attached to my DH's shop since May 20th of last year. I'm here to tell you I'm a lot stronger, balance is better, blood sugar better, blood pressure better AND my metabolism is really gung-ho doing this light weight lifting routine approximately 30 minutes a day three times a week.
I stepped on the scale this morning and am now down to 161.2 (I am 5'9" when I first get out of bed in the morning). I've lost around 8 lbs since I started the strength training with trying to eat right but falling off the wagon plenty with the sugary and salty snacks. I'm now making more of an effort to curtail the junk food since it's so bad for my brain!
MFP has a good system of logging if you are keeping track of calories. I'm not worried about calories in/calories out but endeavor to eat plenty of good quality foods including healthy fats and if I don't stray too far into the snack cupboard, I generally am close to MFP's recommended calories anyhow.
I was 65 when I started doing this last year and had never lifted a weight in my life, so it can be done, and I was coming off painful round of bursitis in my knee.
If you want to start, my advice is take it slow and talk with your doctor if you have physical concerns. I have some joint issues so I keep my weights down a little and add more sets or reps.
I know I have a lot of bad habits, but this good habit tops my list and I look forward to it every time.

Yesterday was Valentine's Day so my husband and I went out to one of our favourite restaurants.
We hadn't paid much attention to the people at the table next to us, but when they got up to leave, one of the men suddenly recognised my husband from way back when. They got chatting and catching up a bit, as you do, and there were introductions with this man's wife, and their friends and all.
After they left, my husband leaned closer to me and said in a low voice, "You're very lucky". Oh? Why is that? He replied with, "You are aging very well."
Well, Happy Valentine's Day to me!
