Oooh did I tell you that middle son, ( married one that lives in Vancouver WA now), came and visited us at the hospital?? He kept me company when husband was getting procedure done. Such a delight! Love that kid, so supportive and caring!
Also my eldest that is on Navy restriction texted me on Messenger, while we were at the hospital! He was given access to a computer (supervised), to contact us about getting leave Feb 19th- 26th. Yahoo! He wanted to drive a uhaul and start the moving process, so I had to get him up to speed on his father's health issues, and pull in the reins abit! First and foremost is getting my husbands surgery done ASAP, then recovery, THEN moving. It was really nice to connect with him even if just a text! So we shall see him sometime this month!!!
Today no real Valentine Day's celebration, but he chased me round the house a bit!! I am blessed!
Love you all!

Hi Sisters, am taking deep breaths. Visitors have just left for the second time. They are coming back next weekend to spend another few days and leave their vehicle here. My husband will drive them to the airport. Believe it or not, we are also expected to store their vehicle on our property. My husband agreed to this about 15 years ago so this is a long term thing and no, we certainly don't get paid any storage fee! My plan is to leave Friday after work and drive to my grandkids place for the weekend and avoid the third visit. I'm over it.
I got up early this morning and snuck out with three of the dogs for a barefoot run on the beach. Such a beautiful start to the morning. Then I came home and put my bee suit on and spent the next few hours in the hives. I had a good strike from last week and took out thirty cells to put in the incubator. Then grafted a lot more for next week.
PupPup and Nessa are both gorgeous. I love little dogs with curls. I think I might meditate, then work in the garden, then ride my horse and maybe I will have shaken off some of the bad visitor vibes. Hubby is out on the riding lawnmower. That is his re-set button. LOL
Oh, whoever suggested "I deserve a donut" thank you, I've just gotten the app on my phone. Wendy9 -

Hugs and loving thoughts to you all
Becca: Healing energy going from me to your chief.
KJ: Likewise to precious Joaquim.
I'm down to 13 days to retirement. Had my exit interview today and it felt good being able to unload long held observations, feelings and disappointments. My workload is light, so I have been whittling down piles of papers and a massive collection of Girl Scout 'stuff' accumulated over the years. I'm getting set to completely deep clean, paint, and redecorate my office. My printer died yesterday, so that's going out and a newer, sleeker model will replace it, after all the the other work is done.
Since coming back from the cruise, there has been such a shift in our household. I realized, with some guilt, that everyone has living around my crazy schedule. DH especially has been deprived of sleep due to my getting up at 4:45 AM to work out. Now, I'm intentionally keeping still in bed until 6 AM, and that little extra sleep has made a difference in his disposition. He is more alert and talkative. I also never used to take breaks during my work hours to eat with him, but now I intentionally facilitate a mid-morning coffee break and lunch for us. This has been great for our relationship, but horrible for my fitness. I'm a creature of habit. My good habit for so many years was the crack of dawn gym workout but with that displaced and my waking day compressed, I'm struggling to get in a decent workout. March starts a whole new frontier and newfound freedom, and I know that I'll get back in the groove. But for now I've surrended February and am making it my guilt-free month in limbo. 13 days!!!! Yes, I'm excited.
Loving all the Olympics sports and stories. Also loved watching two nights of the Westminster Kennel Dog show. The winner wasn't my first choice, but adorable nonetheless.
Stay well friends. We can do this.

Olympics ...
I've been thoroughly enjoying watching both Canada and Australia compete. Fortunately, the coverage here tends to focus mainly on those two countries.
We've been watching a lot of speed skating ... that's probably one of my favourites ... snowboarding, moguls, luge, and hockey.
One of the reasons I've been watching the hockey is because I'm pretty sure a couple of the announcers are Canadian. I said to my husband that I so rarely get to hear the Canadian accent anymore that it's kind of exciting to spend an hour or so listening to a Canadian accent announce the hockey. He looked at me and said, "you hear the Canadian accent every time you open your mouth!"
I don't hear my own accent and, funnily enough, I've had more people guess that my accent is Irish ... so I'm not even sure what's coming out of my mouth when I talk anymore!

Rori, congrats on your upcoming retirement. Being retired allows for a lot of freedom in scheduling one's day. A few months ago I made some huge changes in my daily routine to accommodate my husband's health needs. First, he doesn't do much because of low energy and back pain so he is home a lot and misses me when I'm gone, so I eliminated a few things I do outside the house and am home more. Second, his doctor recommended a daily nap, so I lie down with him and the pets every day after lunch. A nap is rarely my first choice of what to do with my time, but it's something that we can do together. I'm sure, you'll find a new schedule for you that will allow you to be with your husband and also get your necessary exercise. Best wishes.

SW WA State,
You are amazing friend!!!! Mentally doing a cartwheel for you and being all cheerleader!! Congrats on the changes and the weight loss!
Awe, husband is his silly old self! He's such a nut, attacking me a couple times a day, showering me with kisses! Wondering if our eldest will want to live with us!!! Well as long as he has his part, and we have ours all will be copasetta. Hmmm how the heck do you spell that!
Eating simply these days. No big meals. No wait, I take that back! I fixed lasagna last night, and we each were like Garfield the cartoon lasagna loving cat! I made the sauce using sausage bits, spaghetti sauce with sausage in it, tomato sauce, spices and a wee bit of brown sugar. It was heavenly! Last night though, I slept in the recliner because the lasagna was talking to me! I know, I know!
Today was yogurt, banana, 4 chips, granola, and a hotdog. I drank a lot of water!
Feeling much better.

Colorado Foothills,
Hugs to you and all the changes you have made, to adapt to your husband! Its not easy, but since you have noticed he is more talkative, then its nothing but good. Mealtimes for us aren't always at the table, but each curled on the couch facing each other, and talking about this or that. There are times when I sit and watch a show he likes, not because I particularly wish to see it, but its the togetherness that's important. He will do the same for me, (as long as he doesn't badmouth my DIY, or ghost shows)!
13 days!!!!! You are in the final stretch!!! Congrats!
Hugs friend!

Lee is nap king!! Its amazing what 1 hour can do! Pre transplant he was sleeping all the time, his sick liver doing the best it could. Now its a whole other thing. Naps rejuvenate us! We wake up with a slobber mark, and hand prints on our faces!

Its a fun meal to build! I learned to can't tamp it down too hard or you get solid lasagna noodles! ("But dear I managed to get 20 layers in da pan". Um thank you?). I was so naive!

Hi ladies!
I am a 51 year old female who would really like to join this group. I have been gone from mfp for a while and just started back this month. I have 50+ lbs. to lose and could really use some motivation along the way. I have struggled with my weight for years, and though I'm not at my highest weight, I haven't done much in the last little while to help my cause either. So, I am back to logging my food and working on exercising more. Me and my DH are expecting our first grandchild in March, so "she" is one of my biggest motivators for staying on track. I am open to any advice and ideas on helping me achieve my goal.10 -
Allie - More hugs. Old habits die hard. Do remember why you are in that court house in the first place. You didn't cause this.
KJ - Poor Joaquin. Praying for a quick recovery.
NYKaren - Ah....Roma. Enjoy! Enjoy! Are you visiting the Sistine Chapel? Fun fact - I wanted to marry Michaelangelo when I was much younger. My Mom burst that bubble for me. Lol
DJ - The flowers are beautiful.
Janetr - Hope the pain goes away soon.
Pip - You make me laugh. I need that.
Yvonne - Congratulations on being in Onederland.
Vicki - I think you may have landed in the right place. These ladies are Amazing!
Cheri - The school shooting is so tragic. The poor people of Parkland. This world is crazy at times.
Becca - Thanks for the laugh.
Getting chased around the house is a huge compliment.
Crazy weather here again. Schools were closed, roads were closed. "She" wanted me to drive Harmony to dance today but I told her that Harmony could skip today's tap lesson. Dance school sent out an email that said not to stress about missed classes as they were aware that driving conditions were not good. I'm glad I stuck to my guns because there was a 9 car pile up on the bridge at the time we would have been on there.
Not going to dance gave me time to make roast and scalloped potatoes for supper. We were going to do something special outside our home but the weather changed our minds. Larry said my cooking was better than most restaurants anyways. We don't always give each other presents for Valentine's Day. My present today was that he watched the Pairs figure skating with me. Canada won Bronze so that was exciting. The German team definitely deserved their Gold Medal. I loved watching them. His present was a back massage.
Chico's present was to lay across both of us while we watched TV. All happy campers tonight.

The shooting in Parkland, Florida @ Stoneman Douglas High School hits home. We called Parkland our hometown for 11 years and our children grew up and went through the school system. We have family and friends currently living in Parkland who are living a nightmare right now. When will this kind of terror end?! My heart hurts for these children.

Morning, all,
Cheri - Such a staggering toll taken in Parkland, hard to even wrap our heads around it, to even begin to imagine the families' pain. These tragedies ripple into the future in ways we can't comprehend.
Rori - You are an amazing and giving partner to your husband, but don't forget to take care of yourself, too. You're so close to retirement day! I'm glad the exit interview was cathartic. Hopefully they listen to what you had to say.
Welcome to all the new ones - there is enough love and support here to float a battleship. Stay with us, chime in where you can. Don't feel you have to respond to everyone, it's nearly impossible, and if you're here, you're already under stress.
An incredibly busy week, so far, but triumphant. We've brought more sponsors and donations in for this event that I'm working on than we've ever done in the past, with still six weeks to go before the event--I ran the numbers for her last night and made my boss extremely happy. Speaking of stress, mine will definitely ramp up as we head into the last week of March, culminating with a week in El Paso and Midland.
And, a nice ending. Our daughter has a four-day weekend, for some inscrutable Army reason, so my husband and I are leaving Friday to go up to the mountains and have a three-day weekend of our own. Corey and I need the break, and when we come back, can sit down and have that talk with her about making sure she doesn't take him for granted. I'm thinking three days alone with the kids, no help, no cooking, no cleaning, will help her understand why.
On the weight side of things, overindulged in salt once more on Tuesday night, and put on a pound and a half of water weight. I'm eating almost no prepared food out of boxes or cans these days, and it's amazing what one small packet of sunflower seeds will do to you when you're not jamming your body full of hidden sodium every day. But a pound of it is already back off this morning. One thing that's been helpful is I'm tracking my weight every day, but only count Mondays as my "official" weight. It makes these small blips more bearable. And today, it's warm enough to run--look forward to that.
Love y'all,
Lisa in NC (for 115 more days... but who's counting? )6 -

So sorry about Parkland. And Cheri, it always hits home when you have a personal connection.
I'm going to have a day off typing today, because DH is going out for lunch with his friend, so that gives me a chance to catch up with tv programmes I've recorded that he doesn't like, or doesn't like the presenter. He really doesn't like Michael Moseley as he thinks he "generalises" from too little evidence. DH is really hot on statistics and moans about people misinterpreting them all the time. Nor does he like trivialisation or popularisation of topics when the presenter prances about doing stupid things. Neither do I, but I'm a bit more forgiving. It's those kinds of conversations that have caused the biggest arguments between us in the past - when I exaggerate or generalise, just for effect and he argues with me. It ends with me blowing up at him in a big way. Usually when I have had a few drinks.
So I will have a nice indulgent time eating my super spicy Asian soup and reclining on the sofa watching health programmes.
He can't go walking with his friend, even though the weather is fine, because the ground is waterlogged from days of rain. I will be running round the lanes and I'm hoping some of the puddles will have dried up by this afternoon.
Lanette - You have done so well. On the recent Michael Moseley it showed that more reps with light weights did the same to the muscles as low reps with heavier ones. That is contrary to things I have read in the past, but good news for us oldies. My heaviest dumbbell is 20 lb. I use two for bicep curls and then one at a time for other exercises. They are heavy! I have lighter ones for other things.

Lynette - Did you see the Skeleton event in the Olympics. And I thought the luge people had a few screws loose, but to go head first? Vince laughingly said "it's probably called the Skeleton because if you wreck, you're a skeleton". I firmly believe in weights and cardio. I tend to vascilate, at one time I prefer cardio, then I prefer weights. But I always do a combination of both, even if I have to cut it short. I try to do something every day and I truly believe in exercise along with decent eating. I know that I've said this before, but I'll say it for the new people. FOR ME I don't add in my exercise calories. This way if (I really should say "when") I go over on the calories in/out, I know that I have a "buffer".
Becca - how wonderful that your son went out of his way and was with you during your husband's procedure. I know how good it felt when Jess was with me while Vince was having his procedure years ago. And to get a text from your other son!
Wendy - good for you driving to your grandkids place. If you posted this, I must have missed it. What is the procedure you use for the hives?
Rori and Lisa - question -- how much of the money from the GS Cookies do the GS actually get? 13 more days -- how exciting
Mary - Those kettlebells are from Tone It Up. I thought that water would be best, too. I'm not about to travel with sand! Most hotels do have water so I could just fill it when I got to the hotel. Unfortunately, then I read that they weren't recommended for liquids. Bummer. But at least you can add more and more sand as you need heavier kettlebells.
Speaking of lasagna -- they're having a pot luck here at the condo on (I think it is) the 21st -- whatever that Friday happens to be. I really can't prepare something, I was going to take these shrimp bites that I make but then I realized that I didn't have my food processor down here. Anyway, I'm going to take a lasagna with me. I know that many times when we go to a Newcomer function, there are a lot of desserts and I'm thinking it may be the same way here. So I'm going to bring lasagna.
Jeri Lynne - come in when hou can -- just post. Happy day to you and your sons
blackburn - how interesting! You'd like to join this group and we'd love to have you. Worked out well, don't ja think? Welcome back to MFP. congrats on the upcoming grandchild. How many will this make?
I things like the incident in Parkland make me glad that I don't have little kids right now.
Lisa - you and Cory have a great time. You deserve it
Michele now in FL off to the Y5 -
I think it is time American's stop asking politicians "How many kids have to die in school shootings" and instead ask "Whose kids have to die in school shootings" in order to have some action taken for gun control. Obviously sheer numbers won't move our politicians. This is America, land of "who you know". Not that I wish any more school shootings, but how quickly would things get resolved if those politician's children and grandchildren were the among the students involved?! My heart is so hurt; but I am SO incredibly angry that this is still going on and NO action has been taken for gun control.
Spending the day with small innocent children, who in a couple of years will be going to school, where they will be having "shooter drills" on what to do if a shooter enters the school.
sorry if too political. It's all I've got in my head this morning. Turning the news off so that the kids don't see it. Sending love to you all. Especially you, Cheri, with friends and family still in the Parkland community! ttfn xoxoxo KJ (Kelly)7
