Good evening, this is my umpteenth attempt to lose weight. Lose 30, gain 40, lose 50, gain 70....yoyo dieting. I'm 62 and beginning to feel the physical effects of this, such as Type II diabetes, several ortho issues, hypertension. I like group support and connecting with people facing similar challenges.
I'm here to learn! My husband of 38 years passed 3 years, 7 months ago. I've been learning a whole bunch since then, most of it good, some not so much.
Hope to help someone else along the way. So, thank you for having this board.

Hi Gals,
Only to page 44
Felicia - Your pictures of “Classic Raynaud's” may indeed be, I have ZERO medical info but know that is what my hands do when I pinch a nerve in my neck, the doctor described it as carpel tunnel in my shoulder, I can “fix” it with stretching and massage.
Michele – I wouldn’t worry about Pete’s future dreams…. One day at a time.
Terry – happy belated b-day!!!
Mary – that’s appalling!!!
Penny – From what I’ve heard Martha is pretty gobsmacked that there could be any culture except that coordinated by her…..
DL – I would suggest not changing your diet at all for a week, just measure and log everything – then you can figure out where you stand calorie and nutrition wise, and figure out where you are willing to make adjustments.

Well, crud. My tablet did it's own thing when I put it down and I lost my post. grrrrr.... Not enough time to re-do so will just have to say welcome to the newbies, you've come to the right place! HUGS to those who need them, congrats to those who have had successes!
Hope everyone has a great day/night!

Hey people - Patty in particular.
We can do this by taking 1 day at a time. If someone tells you that you aren't going to be hungry - they are wrong(at first at least)
Also, just because you have had a terrible day of eating the wrong amount of the wrong stuff , does not mean that tomorrow will be the same! Each morning is a new start. I have discovered that if I have a successful day, it can multiply5 -

lisa, that sounds like a really interesting way of eating! best of luck!
Michele, I am also a y person. I think walking on tread and doing elliptical are about the same. whatever you enjoy is probably the best, though!
jane, I think the fact that you are running is all that matters! not how far/fast. keep up the good work.
allie, best of luck on this awful journey. hang in there.
I love all the doggie pics!
yes, the school shootings are disgusting. as a parent of 10 year olds and teacher of 4/5 year olds, and just a regular ol' person in this world, I am scared and horrified. it just can't go on.
I'm assuming we stay off politics in here, so I won't get on the soapbox, but I am sure we can all agree that something has to change... ugh!
valentines day hit me hard because my (14 year old) marriage is grinding to a halt. if I weren't so exhausted all the time I would be doing more research, but surely it's time to file for divorce soon. it's sad because the hubs is a childhood friend and our families go way back. but I know I am close to the end of my rope (won't bore you w/all the deets! not yet, anyways;)). the stress of this is surely what's been behind my weight gain in the past few months, and there are some days I just can't control myself, like yesterday (waaay too much Chinese food!). oh well. I started my day at the gym and will do that again tomorrow. one day at a time, as they say....
be well, all,

Hi Kay,
I follow the Keto diet. I have been eating Keto for 16 months and have lost 60 lbs. I find that it cuts cravings and hunger.

One week till I start my next semester! Or more specifically, 9 days. I don't feel ready, but whatever, the semester starts whether I'm ready or not.
Meanwhile, I'm trying to catch up on a few things at work.

Jeri Lynn, sorry to hear you are having marriage problems which definitely are so stressful it will be affecting your health and weight. Men are difficult beasts to train! Hope you can come to a decision or find a solution to your problems sooner, rather than later. Wendy2

I just came across this group and feel the love here. February Goals: Get in more exercise and continue to discover more ways to eat healthier.7
-
Wendy - I try to swim 2000m three times a week and it is all arms becuase my only knee is a slightly bum knee at the moment. The hubby is an ex-olympian (Montreal summer games) for swimming so I have the perfect coach! I haven't been able to get into the gym because ever time I do...I pick up a bug. I love Hot Yoga and try to go at least once a month. I am trying to get my laps in because I have a wheelchair marathon to do in June....want to beat my last time (3h46m). My food plan is simply eat as much WHOLE FOOD as I can and stay slighly below my calorie level (1800).
It is a horrible struggle about weight gains or losses.....either way changes how my socket fits which then determines my activity level. I have been slowly switching to wheelchair sports....next week I am trying out Sit-Ball (volleyball but your butt never leaves the floor) which I am all excited because I played ball all through school and into university.7 -
Thanks for such a warm welcome and this will be our first grandchild. I can't wait to spoil her! Our daughter is due March 20th and all she will give us for a name is "baby E". I had my second PT session on my right wrist/hand today and my hand is killing me tonight (recently had carpal tunnel surgery). I have skimmed some of the posts and wished I felt like spending more time posting. I'm sending happy vibes out to everyone and praying for everyone in Parkland.

Kerri - welcome! Glad you found us. Please report in whenever you feel the need, and make your posts as long as you need. You have been through so much - kudos for analyzing where you need to be and how to get there. Stay warm (maybe menopause is helping with that )
Dana - so happy to see you back! Doesn't surprise me that your mom and sis pulled a fast one with the inheritance, from what you said before they were, shall I say, unstable? Glad you are able to put that behind you now. How is your back doing, by the way?
Heather - even tho my doc said keep exercise to a minimum to let my foot heal, I miss cardio and wonder if the elliptical might be OK. When I go to the gym, it seems they are the most popular piece of equipment. I will check it out.
Because of the cold weather next week, DH was able to move his doc appointment to March 2nd. According to Accuweather, we should be back up to 38 at night and 50 during the day. Much better than the low of 17 expected next Tuesday morning.
I did my shopping run this morning. There's a checker at one of the grocery stores who never smiles, and always looks on the verge of tears. A couple years ago she had a black eye. So, I decided my project today would be to try to make her smile. I was the only one in her line and we had the opportunity to make small talk - I managed to get her to joke about something and she actually told me "have a nice day" three times as I picked up my grocery bags. (By the way, I don't blame her for not being cheerful all the time, considering some of the nasty customers that go through these lines! Good gravy!)
I am not saying this to pat myself on the back, but to say I think I got more pleasure out of it than she did. I remember the days I'd have at work when I was feeling depressed or angry about something, and a customer would take the time to smile and say something silly which cheered me right up.
Margaret, I think the "be kind" comment you made this morning was resonating in my subconscious. Thank you for the reminder.
Lanette

That's a great attitude to have, to make people happy! When I worked at a grocery store, I asked y manager if I could hug customers. He said by all means, so I did! I would ask them if they got their 5 a day. They would ask 5 what. I would answer 5 hugs a day more optimal health! So then if they asked if I was giving them, and I'd say, "I'm the sample lady, of course I do"! It was a great job, and I was great at it!
I bet you made that gals day. Put hope, when she was feeling hopeless.
Hugs!

Pip: I love your fire. I feel the warmth!
Joyce: I'm sorry that you've had such serious problems with your hands and dexterity. It doesn't seem fair that you lost your MFP name due to typing problems. I hope MFP comes to your rescue. I asked DH for advice on a way for you to talk to your ipad and have it produce text. It is possible. DH says to go to settings on your ipad, then general, & open accessibility. The first line under accessibility is called voice over. DH says to play with it and figure it out. It might be a big help to you. Keeping my fingers crossed for your success. (((HUGS)))

I've been busy & distracted the past few days and have missed quite a few posts. This evening I'm watching the AKC dog show--luckily I had it recorded. I still don't know who won, but I expect that I will soon enough. My beloved Keeshonden are a very long shot. I've never seen one win at the AKC out side of the breed grouping. They have wonderful personalities and are cute, lovable companions--in my opinion.

So for February, I'll go for something in that range ... somewhere between 2016 and 2017. Or maybe more, we'll see how February plays out.
Really busy with work and university the first 8 days of Feb, so it's not likely that I'll rack up the big numbers then ... but I've got a bit of a break after that ...
Feb 1 - 7.9 km walking (98 min) + 4 flights of 20 stairs (3 min)
Feb 2 - 3.2 km walking (40 min) + 4 flights of 20 stairs (3 min)
Feb 3 - 32.24 km cycling (100 min)
Feb 4 - 29.25 km cycling (90 min)
Feb 5 - 7.3 km walking (90 min) + 5 flights of 20 stairs (4 min)
Feb 6 - 7 km walking (85 min) + 4 flights of 20 stairs (3 min)
Feb 7 - 2.2 km walking (25 min) + 8 flights of 20 stairs (6 min)
Feb 8 - 4.6 km walking (55 min)
Feb 9 - 2 km walking (25 min) + 4 flights of 20 stairs (3 min)
Feb 10 - 4 km walking (50 min)
Feb 11 - 101.57 km cycling (350 min) + 0.8 km walking (10 min)
Feb 12 - 45.53 km cycling (140 min)
Feb 13 - 5.3 km walking (66 min) + 4 flights of 20 stairs (3 min)
Feb 14 - 1.8 km walking (22 min) + 4 flights of 20 stairs (3 min)
Feb 15 - 1.8 km walking (22 min) + 4 flights of 20 stairs (3 min)

What an eye-opener. I have two wardrobes, my fat me clothes and my skinny me clothes but having socket fit problems would be a whole nuther problemo. I guess it would motivate you to set a goal weight and then maintain it, just so your leg fits right. No yo-yo weight gains and losses allowed. I suppose your good leg must be under stress as it is probably taking the lion's share of weight and balancing. You sound like a pragmatic person who accepts the hand life deals you and makes the most of what you've got, focusing on what you can do, instead of stewing over what you can't. Everybody has limitations in life, some physically, some mentally. You sound pretty good mentally and that's huge, isn't it? wendy3 -

Kayla, thank you so much. I will check it out. My son in law is also a big apple tech person so he he is a person I can go to. I talk to my daughter almost every day when she is on her drive home from work. She and her DH can practice what you are saying and she can walk me through it.
Am really enjoying the figure skating tonight. I am so proud of the OAR! Also so proud of the team from Israel. This nation is so misunderstood and I just love how the skaters have done. One of them even skated to one of the songs from Fiddler on the roof!
Started the Lyrica that PM and sure did sleep well I went out to eat with my sis today fo my birthday lunch and it wa a very large meal that was brought to me. Very large in carbs also so took over half home. But I did have a piece of carrot cake. When I eat cake I like to leave the best for last which is the frosting. So I put the deliciousness on its side and start with the bottom layer. This was a triple layer. But I dig out the cake only and don't dare eat even a tiny amount of frosting. Then I start with the second layer and do the same and then the top. So at the end I am left with a shell of three slices of cream cheese frosting. Then I have analyze what is the thickest layer of frosting. So I starte again with the lowest making my way to the top then the end frosting. Oh was it good. So I may eat the other half tomorrow or giv it to Charlie. And she gave me a nice gift card from Kohls for my gift. Oh, my bday isn't until March 3 rd but this was the Only time we could get together. And we always talk and talk, it is so good. She asked if there was anywhere else I wanted to go. I know now we should have gone out the cemetery. We haven't been there for awhile. My nephew that had the heart attack usually goes out there and 'talks' to Dad and I guess we have just gotten used to that. We have. Oh our parents and a sister there.
Anyway, because of going out to lunch I didn't take that first day time dose of Lyrica. So tomorrow I will take it and be under the close supervision of my husband. I wore my big heavy fuzzy winter glove to bed last night. It is a double layer and the inside layer is just warm fuzz. When I took it off y hand was so nice and warm. And my morning blood pressure 148/70. So that proves that it is the pain that raises my B/P. So I wore it out to lunch with my sis. She asked me if o was going to wear it inside and I said I would if needed.
I hope tomorrow when we 'talk' I am not loopy! Joyce, Indiana3 -
Sunkist796 wrote: »late to the show but anyone who knows me....knows that I am also 15 minutes late....and since it is the 15th today...it works! LOL
I am going to be 50 in August. I am proud of that number. It also looks like I will be retiring at some point this year. I am a police officer and 6 years ago started my journey into the work of bone cancer. The type I had was called a Giant Cell tumor, benign but also a lot of junk they could not identify. Thankfully no chemo or radiation, which was my choice. Lot's of surgeries to save the leg and kill the tumor but didn't work out. I opted to chop it off and the date was Feb 19th, 2014.
The following 2 years was more medications and medications to treat the side effects of the primary medications and then it was more medications to treat the side effects of the second medications.....and then I slowly weaned off by using alternative methods...essential oils, massage therapy, acupuncture and other Eastern medicines. I am mostly med free now but the body has not fully recovered from the onslaught. I am being watched for liver and kidney issues and always looking for that recurrence (high risk factor as well)...my medical team and I joke that I am eventually going to die from the low-level radiation directed at my lungs than the original tumor!
I went from a healthy 175lbs woman (I ran 5 miles every day, walked 5 miles every day, and bike 12-50 miles a day - yes INSANE! I also had a big husky that NEEDED the activity more than I did) to my all time low of 135 lbs (drugs will do that) and now sitting at 190lbs. The new ideal weight should still be the 175lbs but minus the 15lbs for the missing leg = 160lbs. A combination of illness, medications, missing leg, ill-fitting sockets, and MENOPAUSE have created the perfect storm that I am trying to ride it out or find calmer waters.
My endurance levels are still weak. I have now realized that I can not exercise the same way that I use to. I also need those 9+ hours of sleep or I suffer for several days afterwards.
The goals are to keep getting closer to what my Garmin tells me to do. My current step count is only 3,661 for today. Last week it was 2,800!! I swim 4x a week but have to get walking! Good thing for my underground parkade!! It's flippin' cold outside right now! My fake leg is only rated for -10c and its' currently -22c!!
I like being held accountable. I like reporting in.
The goal for the rest of February is to keep track of my meals. Keep the step count moving upwards!
Sorry for the long post!
Kerri from Canada
Hello Kerri and welcome:-
I am also a newbie although I was lurking for well over a year before I plucked up the courage to join in. The ladies on here are such a friendly bunch that I feel as if I know them personally! I'm sorry that you've had so much to deal with but you seem very positive. I'm sure all the other ladies will make you very welcome, I just wanted to get this post on before I go out.
All the best

Greetings and hugs to the new people. Whatever we are doing and however we are doing it, we are still beating all those still on the couch!
Jeri - So sad for you. I've been there. It's a long road, but you may feel better once you have made a decision and taken some action, however small. The depression that comes from being "stuck" is hugely debilitating. Do you have any friends who can help walk you through this? Someone to offload on? We have more options and resources than we can see when we are stuck in a hole. Gathering information is always my first step and then I can see my way a bit better than when everything looks confusing and hopeless. Asking for help is my next step. Taking one small action is the next.
Don't forget to do nourishing things for YOU. A little bit of time for your favourite exercise activity, perhaps? A new hairstyle? All these things can boost our mood.
I wish I knew some of the things I know now when I was going through it. I went through severe depression and physical problems. Eventually I did come out the other side and now I am happier than I ever dreamed I could be.
Wishing you all the best
Love Heather UK xxxxxxx5 -
Lisa - You and Corey need that three day Weekend. Enjoy every little moment.
Becca - Sadly I was not the recipient of the massage, I gave it.
Janetr - Great card that your daughter left.
Allie - What Mary said!
Dana - I am sorry for your loss and for your stress.
Jeri Lynn - I'm sorry that you are having marital problems. Where's that wand when you need it.
Long day again. I now have 12/30 given feedback and working on plans.
Got to Moxies after everyone was finished lunch. They knew I worked until 1 so not sure why they asked me to meet them at noon. Oh well, they were all done eating but decided to nurse coffees so I could eat . DBIL treated. I noted that they never invited Larry. My brother helped me with my steak sandwich lunch. He ate the bread and half the sweet potato fries. Everyone ate the fried onions but me. Frank had his remicaide? infusion today. He looks good now to see what the specialist in Calgary has to say.
I have my injection for my ankle booked for the 20th and an appointment with my doc when she gets back on the 27th. Got to get that ball rolling. XRays, letters, supporting documents, etc. etc. Don't know if I can win this challenge but sure going to try.
Took "her" and Harmony to the doctor appointment. She seemed disappointed when the doctor didn't give Harmony a prescription. Because she doesn't have an ear infection you Ding Dong. Doctor said she had a lot of wax in her ear and to put some olive oil in to loosen it. She kept Harmony home from school because she stayed up too late last night. How does a six year old stay up too late? Put her to bed and make her stay there. You are the parent. GRRRR. She had a number of errands she needed to run that she neglected to ask me about beforehand. Bank, post office, grocery store and drug store. She expects a lot. Trying to keep a good relationship but feeling taken advantage of. She is a master manipulator and definitely uses Harmony to get her way. GRRR ......again. I have told her I am unavailable to take anyone anywhere for the next few days.
My last Aunt is in the hospital waiting to move to a palliative care bed. Aunt Audrey is my Mom's younger sister. She is 89 years old. She fell last summer and that seemed to start the downhill slide. She has cancer but they are not sure which organ it is on. They are not going to find out and she wants no treatment. Aunt Audrey is in a great deal of pain. I will take some photos and get her to share her stories this weekend. I have been pretty close to her since we moved to Lethbridge in 1997. My Aunt is one of the strongest women I know but she says she is tired and ready to go.
My son-in-law's aunt slipped on ice that some homeowner had not cleared. She had emergency surgery on her ankle this evening. Poor lady has really had a rough few years. Wendy's son was murdered, she found out all about her husband's philandering and now this. She is a truly nice person. Jheri and Ryan were at the hospital with her most of the day. Jheri came and got some of the things I used when I was recovering from my accident. I hope they help.
It was very mild today but due for more snow and colder temperatures.

Happy Friday, looking forward to taking a break from work, it is just getting so intense with work drama and the politics of it all, not to mention feeling surrounded by germs!!! I'm ready to embrace a little adventure and time with my DH on our trip, eventhough I'm anxious about the travel part, I am focussing on the parts I'm most looking forward to, holding his hand, sleeping on his shoulder on the plane, and watching his excitement when he is fascinated by the history of old stuff!! (he loves forts, walls, churches, temples etc.) Me, I love little narrow streets, cafe that look out onto plazas, and of course, I love people watching. Have a happy healthy day

Morning, afternoon and evening my dears,
Brenda - welcome to the group! They're a terrific bunch, and if you ask questions, you'll get tons of responses. Feel free to jump in wherever, whenever. That goes for all who are new. Sign your name and a location--it's how we keep some idea of who we're talking to!
Joyce - hope the Lyrica is helpful for you. Just... be careful. It's strong stuff, and you're on so many things right now. Hope someone is tracking all your drug interactions.
Sharon - I'm sorry about your aunt, and hope she goes in peace and not in pain. Hope the challenge works; it would be a well-deserved and much needed win for you.
Actually woke up with the feeling that I had NOT been grinding my teeth last night, which is unusual of late. It's always been a sign of stress for me, and when it gets too bad, there are these little things called Plack-Rs, I think, that fit over your back teeth like a mini-mouthguard. I keep one by my bed for the bad nights.
And... joy on the scale, having lost 10.5 pounds now since 1/24. It always seems to be the 10s that are hard to get to, and hard to pass by the number on the scale. I'm down to 207.4, and it took forever to get past 210. Now it's a matter of holding on to my progress through the weekend. Won't stress too much, am taking all the things I need for success with me - my oat bran for breakfast, sugar-free creamer for my coffee, sugar-free Jell-O. One of the good things about traveling by car. And, there's a Keurig in the room. Do love the occasional fancy hotel! There are private hiking trails at this place, and if it's not just peeing down rain, we'll probably do a little hiking. We lived on the coast in Oregon for three years, and figured out a little rain won't kill ya!
If I stay on track, I should be hitting Onederland just about the time I see the doc on March 8. With the imminent (now even more so) departure to Arkansas, there's no point in doing more than getting my prescriptions refilled and getting consults in the system for a few things in Arkansas, including an orthopod for knee replacement and a dermatologist.
Really want to get out of here without hurting our relationship with our daughter, who we love beyond measure, so will tread lightly this morning. Can't woo-hoo! too much about leaving... I could see the panic in her eyes when we said we'd be going two weeks after Brian gets back. Oddly enough, that will work out to Friday the 13th. My husband's "lucky number" is 13--and Brian's flight back is supposed to be April 3, my birthday. May be reaching a little bit. Trying to find good omens in it all, I guess.
I'll check in later - we've got a five-hour drive up into the Great Smokies, but I'll have my phone.
Love y'all,
Lisa in NC8
