Got the palm of hand to 4" above elbow off Thursday and now have a removable wrist splint. Supposed to leave it on as much as possible to hold down the pain, which might last as much as 6 months. I can't take Tramadol either, especially with bipolar meds. Been fighting being Dilantin Toxicity since out of hospital; now back to pre-hospital dosage as well as Lamictal. Three levels and now back to less than what my levels have been that were controlling seizures. Will see NeuroMD again in mid- to late-April. He is checking with PsycheMD to make sure if he works at taking me off Dilantin and increases my Lamictal that it won't affect Bipolar meds. The more I go to any of my MDs the more convinced than ever that 'finally' are on the same 'dance card'. Sending labs and records to one another, with all going to PsycheMD.
Now keeping up with food; exercise will be working out in studio, but, it won't be like emptying it out and taking stuff back in when Suzanne comes back down; but will be easier to see. Really need to buy some boxes (small enough to move around) and Kraft paper to rewrap what is in them. Christmas and Holidays up over the rafters. Trey and Jenn's stuff on the opposite rafters. Maybe I will be able to find more of my art supplies.
Feeling much better, go to PT on Thursday; but will be asking if they can print off the exercises after they show me correct way to do them at home, since I am 25 miles away and on a 'driving restriction'. Will also be talking to NeuroMD regarding "Narcolepsy" ... because I get so sleepy during the day.
Good thoughts and prayers for all who need them. Enjoying the inspiring quotes. Need to get up and make the bed. Thinking it is time to change the duvet to the summer spread. Will be easier to make bed because it won't be so heavy.
I know when I worked for GMAC/MIC, they would have an early retirement program for people over a certain age who had worked for the company for 25, maybe 30 years - I don't remember. I've had 2 jobs (only ones) that I have worked, which I loved ... I'm sure there were times that I did not like what I was asked to do; but, that was part of the job. Long after we moved, someone came into the building of GMAC and killed several employees and customers, the committed suicide. I knew at least two of them, sad. He went through and systematically killed the ones who had taken cover under their desks, the rest went out a door in the rear. If I had still been working there at their old office, I could have easily gone out the back door because my desk was in the 2nd row from the back. Sometimes when people wrecked their vehicles they'd come in bitching because they thought the insurance that covered GMAC for the car only was all they needed; although the dealership would tell them that until they secured their own insurance and showed proof the insurance would be added to the payment. Stolen cars usually ended up in Alabama, because at the time Alabama did not a 'title' certificate of ownership. I worked in the claims department. I know when I met the man who was the finance man at one of the dealerships, he had the sexist voice I had ever hears; but, the ladies told me to not be surprised when he showed up by how I pictured him to look/ I pictured a tall, dark, charming man; but when I met him he was short, beer-belly, white hair that was premature; but still very charming. I try not to visualize people who I have only talked to over the phone.
I lost 2.5 since I got weighed twice before. This time I was able to get weighed on Estee's scales which shows all the %s of water weight, body mass, muscle mass, and the like. I think eating left-handed slowed me down a lot. That is the only thing I think I have done that would cause that. I made supper last night with 1 pound of Italian sausage, 8 ounces of penne noodles, 1/3 cup of Italian dressing, juice from 1/2 of a lemon, 1/2 cup reserve of noodle water, and 1 cup of Italian cheese. Brown sausage and cook noodles, stir in noodles and the 1/2 cup of noodle water, dressing and mix. Before serving add in cheese and stir. Personally, I would have added another 1/2 cup of sausage (or less noodles). It called for Lemon dressing; but, I was not sure I would like it and it was more expensive. When I cook it again, I might even use Olive Garden instead as well. Unfortunately, it was very high in calories because of the noodles and cheese which you could add less of for sure. I cooked on days that I don't eat much during the day. We had enough to put up in the freezer; but there are only 2 of us.
I have not being too much because of the driving restriction and Trey has been bringing me home. Tuesday after next, I will be having an endoscopy. Then the only other body part they have not looked at will be my colon.

I'm just getting started and am 58 years old and have about 100 pounds to lose and would like to lose 2 pounds per week. My ultimate goal is to be at a normal weight for my 5'3" petite frame (which on the higher side is 141 pounds). I guess my first weight goal is to just reach onederland which is 32 pounds away. I plan weighing in on Saturday. My first weigh in is today 3.17.18 St Patricks Day, And I weight 231 pounds.
Start Weight: 231 lbs on 3.17.18 90 pounds to go
current weight goal is 199 pounds putting me into onederland...31.1 pounds
ultimate weight goal is 141 lbs
fitness goal is to increase my walking with my fit bit...I have no idea what my normal steps are so I will make it my goal to start out with 2000 steps and increase by 500 steps per day until I reach 4000. at that time I will decide if I want to increase it to 10000. I'm charging my fit bit as I type.
water goal...6 cups day
diet goal...to eat 3 meals per day plus one snack, stay within my calories, 5 vegies or fruits per day, and to journal everything I put in my mouth
personal goal is to be as active as possible with decrease in sitting around and increase in doing something while i'm awake. to be more social and stop hiding away because i'm fat with the fear that someone will see me.11 -
Welcome CharliAnn I came to MFP and this thread at age 62 after decades of failed weight loss attempts. One day at a time I made many of the changes you talked about along with being an active member of this thread. I lost over 60 pounds and have kept it off. The same can happen for you

May your day be touched by a bit of Irish luck,
Brightened by a song in your heart,
And warmed by the smiles of the people you love.
Have a fun St. Patty's day all. I've vacuumed the house, completed my kettlebell workout now off to decorate some satin eggs. Sounds like a good day to me

Rita I find it interesting that antihistamines don't interfere with the effectiveness of allergy shots. It's a mystery to me. xo

Well Kirks soap comes in a pack of 4, so I think $2 is pretty good. I'm guesstimating the price, but curiosity will get the best of me, so I HAVE to know the price now.... !
Lenora, so glad to hear from you! You sound like you have been through quite the ordeal! If I could knock on yer door and alleviate all that ails ya, I would!
Hugs friend!!!
Feeling better today, tired, always hungry, but OK. This is a crazy existence! I think now the doctors wish for his epidural out, so things start flowing. Husband stated he should order chili and realllly start things!!!!

DH and I went antique shopping to see if I could find something I could incorporate into my chainmaille. I found a couple of pieces to play with. I’ll try to load a pic.

Hint for bar soap (everyone may know this already). My mother always unwrapped it and put it in her linen cabinets, storage closets, there were bars of soap everywhere. I asked her once why, and the answer was both that it scents the cloth, whether linens or clothes, but there was a second reason, which I found to also be true. From her Depression upbringing, and frugal nature: Soap often has quite a bit of moisture content - and by allowing it to dry for a long period of time (which most manufacturers don't), it lasts twice or three times as long in the shower/bath. Unfortunately, I'm now allergic to most bar soaps, and in fact, every liquid soap except the Dial brands. But, when in my own home again, want to use them to scent linen closets, etc., again.
Only 27 more days! Not that I'm counting...
Glad all's gone well for the surgerized.
CharlieAnn, welcome. We're on similar paths, different diets. Best of luck, this is a good space to keep your head in the particular game we're all engaged in--getting fit, getting healthy, and for those of who need to, losing weight. We have women here in every stage of where you are and where you're heading, and tons of support.

Lanette... woohoo for the smaller pants!!
Barbie ... after my husband's back surgeries we had to be very careful with our aging Lab. Sensing my husband's condition, he went into overprotective mode and kept placing himself under my husband's feet or wrapping himself around his walker. While it was cute, on more than one occasion he nearly tripped my husband.
Terry ... sorry your daughter was in a mood. Kids!
Somehow my younger son left all his laundry go until today (he flies back to school tomorrow) and has decided he needs to do some summer clothes shopping as well. So glad he waited until the last minute for all of this ...

Penney: Safari is my browser of choice and I've never been less than pleased with it. I haven't used Edge. DH uses Firefox and I asked him to see if he could get into MFP. It opened right up. I wonder what is going on with your system. Good luck. :flowerforyou:
Heather: I hope your trip to Hove is delightful and problem free.
Barbie: Thanks. I am welcome at the stable most any day, but I don't want to work with Arrow if no one else is there. I don't trust him that much. His owner has been going to medical appointments with her DH and is often not around. I think I have today worked out. DH has agreed to go up with me. He'll sit in the car and read, and I'll have the security of knowing he's there if I need help.
Lanette: Thanks for sharing the recipe for happiness poster. It is wonderful.
Barbie: Thank you for the book, Running Like a Girl, recommendation. I wonder whether I can get it through my library. I'm nearing the end of a book and will see if I can get it when I turn this one in.
Becca: I love the story of your 5:30 am walk with your DH. I'll call his "pure orneriness" determination, and it is great that he has it. (((HUGS))) PS: DH also loves Kirk's soap. I prefer Neutrogena and think we are lucky to have choices.
Lenora: It is awesome to see your post. Yay!!!
Beth: Boys will be boys and last-minute-itis seems to be the normal operating system. :ohwell:
DH wants to go out for lunch today, and will go to the stable with me afterwards. We're going someplace in town that we haven't been before, a rooftop restaurant that serves simple food, from what I've heard. I hope it is good & I hope it all works out.

Katla, I love the velvety bubbles that Kirk's soap makes. I do get squeaky clean, (and a bit tight skinned feeling), but I counteract that with an all over rubdown of coconut oil!! That is my regiment! I guess you could call me a minimalist when it comes to all that. During the holidays I asked husband to buy me Dr. Bonner's peppermint soap, (which he did!). The huge bottles are $15, so definitely a luxury item. I felt like a fluffy candy cane over the holidays!

Hi Sisters, I'm enjoying my Sunday here. Yesterday I spent almost the entire day in my garden and absolutely loved it. I wanted to share with you the awesome book I've been listening to by Dr. Gregor called How Not To Die, in which he discusses all the diseases that kill you, Heart disease, Cancer, Alzheimers, Diabetes etc and what you need to eat and do in order not to get them or heal it if you've got it already. He has a huge website with hundreds of free videos. If you'd rather read than watch (I do cause I read superfast and videos take too long) then you can click on View Transcript below the video and read it instead. Dr. Gregor donates ALL the money from his books and lectures to charity. Here is a link to one of his many videos that gives an overview of what his book explains. https://nutritionfacts.org/video/from-table-to-able/ All of his facts are based on the latest scientific research. He reads every medical and research journal that is published in English then passes that information on in a way that the average person can grasp quickly. Wendy

Happy Saturday. Weather can not figure out what season it is. Was in the high 50's a couple days and yesterday it started out as rain and by evening snow. I am working 10 hours today so not to concerned about the weather.
Yesterday afternoon DH and I went to the new movie "Imagine". Went to afternoon as figured they would not be so busy and it is cheaper. I was surprised at how many people were there. I did not realize it is a true story until it started. What a good movie and sure made be think about life. Also growing up I thought everyone got hit by their dad and was a teenager before I realized it wasn't that way.
Betty--Hugs and prayers. One day at a time, I live by that and lately it has been down to one minute at a time.
Our youngest son called lastnight to tell us they got the house they were looking at and close May 1st. From the pictures I saw I think it was over priced, but have to keep my mouth shut and just be happy for them. They are first time home buyers so pretty excited.
Barbie & Becca--Glad DH's are doing well. Hope they know how lucky they are to have such caring caregivers.
Machka--I find that survey very interesting and insulting. I plan to work for several years yet. Last fall they offered everyone at my job to take early retirement if your age and your years of service added up to 80. Since I have been here 30 years and 61 I could of taken it, but what they were offering and having to cobra insurance I would be behind each month.
Rye--Hope sick kitty feels better soon.
Well ladies enjoy your weekend. Blessings, Vicki GI, NE5 -
Lenora - great to see you back on here!
Katla - hope you had a nice lunch and Arrow was behaving himself!
Barbie - glad Jake is doing well on Tylenol and you were able to get your walk in with your friend AND that she's an early walker like you are. At least three gals on my street have seen me walking and mentioned they'd love to join me some time. I tell them I'm up at the crack of dawn and they are welcome to tag along. They aren't early risers and I'm generally up by 4 or 5 and raring to go once it gets light out, plus there's not much traffic when a person is out at that time - it's much easier to chat when 2 folks are walking side by side than single file with cars whizzing by. Sigh. Maybe I'll get an early riser one of these days. Otherwise, I really do love walking by myself.
Becca - I was going to ask you if Lee is ready to pass gas or have a BM, lol. When my DH had his colon surgery, the surgeon said it would take a couple days for his guts to "wake up". He was so thrilled when he finally f@rted! It meant he was closer to going home and wouldn't need to wear a colostomy bag. Thankfully he didn't need valium on that drive home-local hospital.
Rita - you are a human pincushion, lol. I wondered about taking Claritin or Zyrtec, but haven't so far. After your post I dug out the pamphlet they gave me -- it only mentions taking an antihistamine if I get a reaction after the shot, and I'm supposed to wait ten minutes after I get the shots to see if I get reactions. I did have to sign a paper saying I promised to have an Epi-pen handy if I give myself the shots(which I don't). I noticed when I was messing with my little tomato seeds and the potting soil I sneezed, nose ran, etc. but nothing more severe. I'll call the allergy office on Monday and see what they recommend.
Allie - let us know how the picker works out. That's an idea for getting rid of items in my DH's shop, come to think of it. I'll mention it to him. Is your sneezing from a cold or allergy going thru dad's stuff=dust perhaps?
Welcome CharliAnn! We all started out with small steps and you have a good plan. If something's not working, don't be afraid to try something else. Lots of good advice and helpers here! Go for it! I remember when I was starting out walking and running a little a few years ago, I told a friend of mine I was disappointed I only made it a mile. She's a marathon runner. She said, "Are you kidding? Don't be disappointed! You already outdid most of the gals your age! Just do what you can-it all adds up!" She was so right and I stopped beating myself up for not being what I thought should be perfect.
Terri - can't wait to see how you incorporate those pieces!
Regarding my DH's eating habits, I actually have cooked a few things that are healthful in the past couple weeks that he has eaten:
1.) Beans & Greens & Sausage (Italian sausage cooked down with sliced onion & garlic, add a little tomato sauce and chicken broth. When that's done throw in a few cups of chopped fresh spinach and a can of drained cannellini beans. He put it over macaroni and loved it, adding some Ragu --- he ate beans and spinach willingly!)
2.) Cabbage Roll Casserole (shredded cabbage layered in a casserole with browned hamburger, cooked rice, diced onion & garlic & tomato sauce. After a couple layers top with mozzarella cheese and bake for an hour. He requested this again and I like it because it's tasty and easy and no messing around with floppy cabbage leaves.)
OK ladies, hope everyone is doing well!

I gave up on bar soap many years ago, now I use mostly Dove or Oil of Olay liquid. I will only buy it when it's on sale and sometimes I luck out and have coupons too! I haven't had to buy any for quite awhile, I went about 18 months ago and had a fist full of coupons that were about to expire. Turns out the stuff was all on sale too, so I bought LOTS of soap cause I know it won't go bad! The girl at the check out had to call a supervisor over to okay the coupons at one point because they are only allowed to process up to $10 worth on their own. It was kind of a long drawn out process as even the supervisor had to enter each coupon and okay it individually. I did a lot of apologizing to the people in line behind me! One lady told me "no worries, I'm really impressed!" lol I had $$ off coupons as well as 2 for 1. It was a good day. I'm still using that stuff, getting low tho, need to start stocking up again, although, unless I find a deal like I did before, I don't think I'll buy anywhere near as many bottles as that one time! I do like to stock up on that kind of stuff when I can, I hate going to the cupboard for shampoo or whatever and finding out there isn't any!
Becca, I like the little bottles too, and we have a bunch from our travels. When our younger son comes to see us, he doesn't bother packing soap or shampoo, so now that we have a guest bathroom, I have all the little bottles there for him to use when he comes to visit. I find the Olay and Dove are both good for my sensitive skin, no dryness so not a lot of lotion needed, but when I do, I use Vaseline Intensive Care. Not much scent, reasonably priced (again, on sale!) and it works for me. And I too am a frugal person! (sounds much nicer than penny pincher! and what's wrong with making a dollar go as far as possible anyway??) I'm glad your hubby is being an obstinate and stubborn patient, I think determination will take him a long way, as long as he is reasonable of course. I'm sure you will make sure he doesn't overdo! Glad that you are more with it than me when I first wake up tho, I could have ended up plugging stuff into places it's not supposed to go!! lol
Barbie, hope that Jake is feeling up to you having the furbabies home. I'm sure everyone will be happy to get back to a routine, even if it's an amended one.
Beth "somehow my son left his laundry til now", gee what a surprise.... Sounds so much like my younger son!
Terry, sorry your daughter was cranky, that sure can bring down the pleasure of any event.
Heather, sure hope the weather cooperates for you!
Penny, I use Chrome and have had no issues. I did used to use Firefox, but gave it up a few years ago after some problem that escapes my memory right now. I do agree, it's a pain having to change browsers!
Lanette, congrats on the smaller pants!
Allie, hoping that the sneezing is under control and that progress is being made at your dads. Sucks about the bad dreams although if it reinforces your decision to leave it to the lawyer, maybe that's a good thing? {{HUGS}}
Lisa, happy that things are working out for you and yours. Wonderful news that your son probably has a job already! Unfortunate that your daughter hurt her ankle, sure hope you can talk her into seeking medical attention for it while she's still here. Why is she convinced that surgery will have to happen? Has she done this before? I know that if hubby tears out his knee again, it will mean surgery, that's what the dr told him last time. Fortunately he's not doing stuff like that anymore! (playing ball like he's still in his 20's!!)
Okay, time to pull the plug on this "book"! Today is going okay, although the boss found some shamrock cookies and so had to bring them in. We always have little treats like that for our tenants. It's great for them, but in the meantime, I'm sitting here breathing in the aroma! I did have two..... I have done a fair amount of walking today, and since it's mostly been me by myself I can go at a good clip!
Hope everyone has a good day/night!

Snow eased up for us, so we made it here ok.
Party was fine. Bea was happy with her presents. Loved her silvery hat!
DDIL told me that my son was struggling quite a bit with the no alcohol thing and finding the life change hard. She advised me not to talk to him about my memoir at the moment. He is doing well, but his whole life, career and identity has been in the drinks industry. I think it's what we call a 'Paradigm Shift'.
I thought about writing a self help book for older women, called OLDER AND BOLDER.
I'll post pics of the kids tomorrow when I've got them off my phone. For the moment here I am with DH in my sparkly t shirt.

Becca, I hear you with this thing about snacking now. Every time Jake says that he doesn't feel like eating or declines a food item that I offer him, I want to eat it. I've been good sticking with my eating plan but have a bigger urge to eat.
I made the decision to continue to board the pets until Monday even though we really miss them. My sleep has been disturbed for four nights and I've been up and down dealing with Jake's needs and having very hard conversations with him about how to best manage pain and discomfort and chronic dissatisfaction. When I made the decision I felt like I'd been "assaulted" by all the demands and couldn't face adding three more needy family members to the mix. Since the option was available to leave them where they are, I allowed myself that luxury. I took a long nap after lunch and now feel much better. Jake is feeling better and isn't as needy and argumentative so I probable could handle the pets but now it's too late to get them so I'll wait til Monday morning.
Heather, You and your husband look awesome.

Well epidural out, surgeon put a couple of stitches in the exit of his side drain. Now he won't be trashing out his gowns all the time. He should get his catheter out tonight at 5:30. So then no tubes, just the task of getting his body to work! He's not in pain, so them taking out the epidural was a good call.
I'm a bit miffed that my middle sister never got with me, while I was here. She is less than an hour away. That was one thing we texted about. My past expectations of her never being there for me, when Lee got his transplant. I have since let that go, and am trying to not pressure her into giving more than she is willing. She said she would be there for me this time, and that has come and gone. Its something I need to come to terms with. That I am trying so hard to keep this sister thing going, worrying about her, more than she worries about herself. That is tiring.
Well, life in the hospital is mind numbing. But we are interacting, and he is coming out of this foggy brained feeling.

Becca- I think your DH is very wise to get up and move as much as possible. I have a friend whose DH was in hospital for hip replacement and he wouldn’t get up and walk. It has been two years and he still won’t walk. So you go Lee take those laps around the hospital.
Worked in garden finishing up mulching the flower beds so Everything is neat now. My white iris is blooming and is beautiful.
Barbie- there are two sides to the pain medication story. You don‘t want to take too much but if you don’t take enough you don’t move enough and that causes problems. My DDIL says don’t let the pain get ahead of you. Best wishes to Jake, I’ve been there and know he is in pain.
Happy St Patrivks day to all.

Becca: Feeling like a fluffy candy cane must have been wonderful. I'll bet your DH thought so, too. I'm sorry that your sister hasn't been there for you once again. You deserve better support from her. :grumble:
Wendy: Thanks for the link! :flowerforyou:
Lanette: DH & I postponed our lunch date for another day. We went to the stable and Arrow was a brat today. He'd already been lunged by his owner and resented me for doing more lunging. It was clearly not fair in his opinion. The ride was sort of okay. :grumble:
Heather: I love your sparkly shirt. You and your DH look happy together and that is a great thing.
Barbie: With all the things going on in your life, I think it was a wise idea to leave the pets where they are boarded for a few days. Jake needs to be the focus of attention for a bit. (((HUGS))) Being a loving wife can be a very demanding task and your DH is a very lucky man.
Happy Saint Patrick's Day to one and all-including those of Irish descent, and those of us who are honorary Irish on this day.
