Kim – not wanting your brother to be by your side is NOT silly at all in my book. Not one bit. My father had his second wife buried in the same plot as my mother. His second wife I didn’t care for one bit. People at the funeral didn’t realize that I was crying for my mother, I really couldn’t have cared for his second wife one bit. If you left it up to me, I would have just dumped her body in the nearest dumpster.
Stacy – the only advice I can offer you is to start slow and eventually you’ll be adding more and more exercise
Rye – your talking about not having a color TV reminds me of the time when Denise called out to Vince “daddy, there’s something wrong with the TV”. What was showing was a black and white cartoon…..lol So sorry to hear about your sick kitty. We get so worried, I know. Best of luck on BB42 (could it have something to do with guns? Maybe getting your concealed carry permit?) Update: Oh no, poor kitty and you. Do you have a wagon? Maybe a wheelbarrow? Heather’s suggestion of a taxi is a good one

Maureli – welcome. You sound a lot like me, I don’t eat a lot of junk but nighttime eating is my downfall. Lately, I’ve found that if I prelog some pieces of fruit, I have that in the evening. Silly as this may sound, the Wii suggested having applesauce or tofu at night – something that is easily digested. Seems to work for me, keeps me full.
Believe it or not, it seems that if I eat a lot of something that really isn’t good for me (like a whole piece of cake), I seem to get so hot it isn’t funny.
Kylia – Mother Nature sure needs to take her meds! Love your furbaby. I don’t think he needs to go to the groomer. Then again, I tend to like long-haired cats/dogs
Personally, I like to view other’s diaries for ideas of things I would never have thought of or something that I haven’t had in a long time
Have Rummikub tonight. In one sense I dread it. Love the game, but don’t care much for having the food. I know I want to be nice and have a bit what others bring, but I’d really rather not if I can avoid it.

Kim in N CA: DH has a similar idea in mind for our final resting place. We were married in a whale look out tower in a public park on the Oregon coast. He wants to have our ashes combined and scattered there. His first Idea was to blast off in a Roman candle but we'd hate to set the cliffs on fire by accident. I'm thinking of mixing our dog's ashes with ours & being scattered from that same spot. My cousins had their parents combined ashes dropped from a small plane into the Little Nestucca River at the Oregon Coast. Their family has had a place there for many years.

Rye: Horseback riding is certainly a different activity than sailing. I love both, but can't manage the sailboat on my own now that DH gets too motion sick to be aboard. I can ride at the stable independently or with friends. :bigsmile:

DH has a doctor's appointment today & I plan to tag along. He's been having digestive problems and is currently doing a bit better. I hope the doctor will have productive advice for him.

I don't want a funeral at all. The undertakers will just take my body to be burned at their convenience and then my ashes can be scattered in places I've been happy - the bridges in London, Paris, Hove beach etc. My mourners can have a wake, preferably a delicious meal somewhere nice and look at photos of me and read out some words of mine. I hope they will tell funny stories. What I save on not having a funeral can be spent on the wake. I hope there will be music and dancing. I am leaving a few suggestions for tunes, including "Enjoy yourself, it's later than you think." And an Irish jig.
I eat the majority of my calories in the evening, so I don't get night munchies. In Europe the main meal is always eaten at night, sometimes quite late. In Spain, in the summer, families often don't sit down to eat until 10.30 or later. The truth is it doesn't really matter when you eat, what matters is the CICO. I eat quite a lot because I exercise a lot, so I'm rarely hungry. Each night I eat main course, dessert, cheese and chocolate. Measured, weighed and logged. Plus I have a delicious drink. AF beer, or some other AF concoction.
I don't feel I'm depriving myself, because I'm eating so well. I lost 57 lbs on this method. And I've maintained for over 4 years.
I log every single bite and sip. Every day.
Today I had yoga, which doesn't burn up nearly enough calories for a healthy appetite. This afternoon I did 30 minutes on the rowing machine and 45 minutes on the recumbent bicycle. Now I can eat.
Some of you are trying to get your 10,000 steps in and finding you don't have the time. This is an arbitrary number dreamed up by a Japanese manufacturer of pedometers. Recent research has shown that three 10 minute sessions of vigorous walking per day has the same effect on health. So you can accomplish that quite easily just by marching on the spot with knees high, or stepping up stairs or just slipping out of the door for a brisk ten minutes. (You have to get slightly out of breath) Almost anyone can find time for that. Kettlebells good. Dumbbells good for strength training. But you can do yourselves just as much good with no equipment at all, just planks, push ups and squats. Brilliant. Lunges are good too.. (I hate them) You can do everything you need on a hearth rug. No excuses.

Got coworker to run by my house (I’m very close to work so that was ok) and drop me off at vet. MIL had to go get her infusion today so she was able to get me and drop me off beforehand. Good thing I live right next to hospital district.
Several possible diagnosis for kitty - most likely is UTI. But they couldn’t get urine sample to confirm. Bu I’ve been sitting with him isolated in one room grooming him since we came home an he has tried to pee 7 times ( only resulting in a minute amount) so it is a safe bet that is the problem. Good news is no sign of blockages
The vet and vet techs fell in love with him, he was at his most affectionate. Hoping the antibiotic works quickly. I hate to leave him, but need to go to work shortly.

Good day ladies!
I had a very lazy day yesterday, so I've been planning some activities for myself. The first thing I am going to do, is set a bedside alarm. When I retired, I thought I would not require the services of my old friend "clock/radio"! I have been getting more sleep than before, but I am sleeping later than I ever dreamed possible!!
I've never been to Disneyland or world, but my kids enjoy the Disney Cruises with their families. My parents took my children to Disneyland when they were small while I worked. As a single parent, I worked a lot. Im glad that I was able to shield them from poverty, but I missed so much...
I find the diversity of your daily struggles a reminder that balance is so fragile, but yet it is what we all struggle for. What may tip my scale, might just steady yours.
The thought of a sick pet hurts my heart. I sure hope kitty is on the mend. I am allergic to cats, but I adore them.
It also seems the DH's are on the mend and/or driving us around the bend, or being thoughtful when we least expect it. Mine is heading out of town on a job Friday, so I might do a 24 hr fast to clear out my system. Does anyone here fast periodically? I had good luck with clear fluids for 4 days per month last year, but I'm having trouble with will power these days.

Rye, I'm so glad you were able to get kitty to the vet! I have found that the antibiotics do work quite quickly for UTI's, my poor kitty has had a few too. Good luck with your project, hope it takes off and flies!
I've never been to Disney anything, but did go to Sea World in Orlando several years ago. That was pretty darn awesome, I have to say. Neither hubby nor I are big on rides, so didn't bother with any of them, but sure enjoyed the whale and porpoise shows! The polar bears were sleepy, so they weren't doing much, but it was still neat to see them. And the manatees! And the flamingoes! It was pricey to get in, but once we were there, our only expense was lunch and we did spend about 8 hours there. I also got to "pet" a manta ray. Won't be doing that again, ever! Ewwww!!! Very soggy, spongy feeling.
Allie, so sorry to hear about your snake, but it does sound like it lived to be a ripe old age. I know next to nothing about snakes, what is their life span?
Lisa, so glad that Kelsey found daycare for Haley and that John has found a job! Sounds like things are falling into place nicely. I hope your work trip goes well.

Sorry, can't remember any more specifics, so congrats to those celebrating victories, hugs for those who need them and welcome to the newbies! This is an awesome spot to come for encouragement, or to vent any and all frustrations. To those who are struggling to start an exercise program, you don't really need to do any structured program and the best exercise is the one that you will continue to do. It's always good to try something different, but if after you've tried it you find that you don't enjoy it then you should just forget that and go on to something else. If you're dreading doing a workout of any sort, you will find all kinds of excuses to not do it. I speak from experience! lol

Happy Snowman Burning Day!
I picked this one because I know some of you are more than ready for it! "Snowman Burning Day marks a change in seasons, and the transition from winter into spring. This is a traditional celebration by American and Swiss citizens to mark an end to winter. Why not celebrate by designing a (flammable) snowman, and inviting friends to share in the fun? Some events involve elaborate spectacles, up to and including exploding snowmen!"
Terry - What I found under the bathroom flooring is something of a surprise. I'd been planning on painting the floor until we could lay tile, but the original floor is in such good shape I think we might just seal it and call it done!
CharlieAnn - The bathroom floor had two layers of linoleum flooring that was stuck so tightly they came off together as one layer, and under that is 80 years' worth of old adhesive. All I'm doing is scraping off the goo. It is hard work and it makes my hands hurt, but as long as I take it slow it's not too bad. Took a break from it yesterday to give my hands a rest.
Margaret - The top layer of flooring in our bathroom likely contained asbestos, but it was solidly glued to the original layer which was real linoleum (the kind made with linseed oil). That all came up in big chunks without any scraping or other dust-producing methods that would disturb the asbestos. The original adhesive gluing it all to the wood does not appear to be asbestos-based, but I'm working with it wet anyway so again, there's no dust. Should be pretty safe.
Rori - Hurray for having the painters out of there! Now you get to the really fun part, where it all starts to come together!

Kim - I understand about not wanting to buried next to your brother. It's one thing to understand intellectually that it's not you there, but another to think about it emotionally. I've already told Philip I do not want my ashes kept in a box somewhere. My head knows that I won't care by then, but right now I care and I don't like the idea. And he's been directed to do the minimum legally required funeral-wise and use the rest to throw a big old party.
Lisa - You said that so well. I think a lot of people, myself included, do better when we focus on doing rather than not-doing or have-to-doing. When we lived in New Mexico, I went cross-country skiing often. That was great, because I did it out of enjoyment, not for exercise. If we try enough things, we'll find the ones that work for us.
maureli - Welcome! We all have our weak spots... I do OK most nights, but weekends are my kryptonite when it comes to eating!
Karen - It wasn't really marble, it was just vinyl floor with a marble pattern. Blue and pink marbled swirls on a creamy yellowish background. With gold glitter. If this were a mid-century house I might have been open to keeping some of the sparkle flooring, but it's not quite the right era of "retro" for this house!

Heather: I like your advice about food and exercise. When I go to yoga classes, I almost always spend time on a stationary bike or an elliptical trainer first. According to MFP, 60 minutes of yoga earns 159 calories. The stationary bike burns 105 calories in about 30 minutes & the eliptical trainer says that I earn 105 calories in 11 minutes. All of it helps, and I think doing my exercising in the morning boosts my metabolism for the whole day. CICO, calories in v calories out, is the daily math problem to get or maintain better health. (((HUGS))) I agree with you on this, NO excuses. If I can't exercise on a particular day, I need to eat fewer calories. I love the notion that I can earn a bit more food with a little effort. :flowerforyou:
Laura: I'm not a person who fasts. Part of it is a personal preference. Part of it comes from living with a diabetic husband who has to eat on a regular schedule so that he doesn't have low blood sugars. For me, it is calories in and calories out every day. One nice thing about the MFP system is that there are lots of ways to accommodate different lifestyles, work patterns, and health issues, and succeed at managing our health and weight.
Yvonne in TX: I love your idea of keeping your flooring appropriate for the era of your home. Blue and pink marbling in the linoleum makes me think of the 1950's. I wonder whether I'm guessing correctly on that. I remember pink and turquoise back then in the fancier, newer homes. We nearly always lived in houses with gray wall-to-wall carpeting in the living room and neutral linoleum in kitchen & bathrooms.
DH is off at the doctors to discuss his bowel problems. I wanted to go along so I could hear what the doctor had to say. He wanted to go alone. I hope it all works out well.

Rye, sending prayers for your lovely furr friend for quick healing. I try to feed my cats lots of "wet" food or raw food, to keep their urinary tracts working. Dry food is not good for cats but I know it is so convenient and they love it usually. It's so awful to see them in pain or sick.
I had such a good day yesterday, doing my little bits of exercise, 5 mins kettlebell, 5 mins hula hoop, 50 minutes on bike watching Stranger Things, 30 min walk with the dogs, 30 min bareback riding on Mani and Esme, an hour in the garden, 20 mins hoof trimming... and I was down another pound on the scales this morning. That is three pounds down since last Friday (five full days). I fasted on Friday, and have been eating a plant based diet since then, as much as I like, not measuring or counting anything, rice and lentils, fruit smoothies, big salads, nuts and seeds and dried fruit to snack on. I've got great energy levels and feeling fine. I have been totally transformed by the book I've been listening to How Not To Die. This book has convinced me not to include meat or dairy, fish or egg in my diet based on the latest scientific research into health and diseases, inflammation and toxins. (I have listened to MANY books on diet and health including all the latest Keto and Fat for fuel and low-carb diets which I have tried out, but I didn't feel healthy on them. I need carbs for energy, and fruits and veggies, not meat or fat.)
My hubby is a big meat eater but when I got him to listen to the audio on preventing Asthma, he has agreed to reduce his meat intake. Dairy is also a huge problem for asthmatics but he is refusing to switch to rice, almond or soy milk on his cereal. LOL. I have switched to a vegan cheese for our pasta and pizza though. He also suffers from high blood pressure and is on medication for that, and How Not To Die recommends no meat or dairy if you want to get your blood pressure normalized and get off the pills. So I've been serving him up beetroot burgers and soy-protein hot dogs and sausage rolls. They look and taste remarkable and he actually loves them! I am so happy he is finally going to make positive changes for his health before it's too late.
I have put my name down to do another hike with the tramping club on Saturday. We will be hiking up to Castle Rock in the Kaimanawa Ranges, weather permitting. It is out of our region and we will be meeting up with another tramping club to do the hike together. Should be Fun! Wendy

Hi, I'm new to the group; I've been reading thru the posts, and this sounds like a great group to be in! I'm Moira, nickname Moy, and I live in a suburb north of Seattle. Just turned 65, retired four years ago, long-time divorced, two grown sons (one of whom still lives with me while he completes his college.) I had gastric bypass surgery five years ago, and I'm down 160+ pounds, but I need to lose another 70 pounds before getting body tuck surgery - because all this loose skin ain't gonna disappear on its own. I volunteer as a trip coordinator / driver at my nearby senior center, and love doing so. And I'm saving to purchase land for a Tiny House that I want to get built as my retirement home. (I sold the big house and downsized to a 1200 sq ft condo when I retired, but I want to go smaller.)
We had a seniors trip today, with eleven of us in the van visiting three different bakeries / cafes. I did great (i.e., controlled my buying) up until the last bakery. OMG, what a spread! So I brought home a whole box of different goodies, gah! My son amd I looked them over, and agreed that we'd eat some today, then he would run the rest over to my Mother-Out-Law tomorrow while I take seniors up north to look for snow geese, trumpeter swans, and bald eagles at a nature reserve in the Skagit Valley.
I love all the activity on this thread! Oh, I'm a tracker, I've found it's the best way for me to keep on track with my lifelong health jouney; I track all food and liquids, and exercise too. (I'm an engineering project manager, see my nerd badge?) But it keeps me accountable. And I walk.

KJ – I’d love to travel but I know that I don’t want to travel by myself and Vince doesn’t care to go. For one thing, he really doesn’t want to spend the $$. Plus, he did all his traveling when he worked. I didn’t get to go but stayed home with the kids. Now he no longer cares to travel and I’d like to.

Waving frantically!!! Well we're home, I drove the 2 and a half hours to the coast here no worries. Husbands side drain was removed yesterday at about 1 pm. I swear the surgeon looked like he was starting up a lawn mower!! He was pulling and pulling, and my husbands gritting his teeth! Poor guy! But it is out, and I changed the dressing today after his shower, it looks good. His staples are very tidy, and those are just air healing. He's sore, but only needs Tylenol.
Came home with a message from my step sister. You remember when my stepfather passed Dec 31st and I posted that awesome obituary? Well his celebration of life is this Friday. Unfortunately Lee needs me, for daily tasks, and I don't see myself driving back to Portland on Friday. I called her back, and decided to send her photos and my story for her to read to everyone, and to share the photos.
I sent the celebration of life info to my sisters, and my middle sister replied that she was going. This is the sister that never got back with me on visiting with me at the hospital. This is the sister that, though less than an hour away, decided that driving into Portland from Gresham was too much trouble YET she texted me back saying she was attending the celebration of life. I am glad she's going, but I'm puzzled by her actions. She told me she could read my story, I declined saying that I would have my step sister read it.
I am genuinely mad at my sister. She texted me yesterday like nothing had happened. I asked her "where were you"? She replied, " oh I was out eating dinner, what's up"? I repeated it again. "No, where were you from last Wednesday till today, when we were at the hospital". She replied,"oh my phone stopped working and I had no communication. All it would've taken was for her to borrow a phone from either daughter, (they both live still at home), and call me, leave a text message.
So I am done. I am mad at myself for hanging on for so long, hoping she could act more compassionately.
So one thing I wanted to do was call her up today, and state I'm done putting so much emotions trying to make this relationship work. But I called my eldest sister and she righted me. Its hard and unrealistic to expect someone to be there for you, when they just aren't. I have to stop having a mental agenda in my head of what I wish to hear from her, and just let it be.
Control the things I can, and live in the present. To stop expecting and try to be the conductor in this train yard called LIFE. All I do is get disappointed. Its really self inflicted. Its like doing some random negative thing over and over, yet each time expecting a positive result. That is my relationship with my sister. So I'm done, and in some sad little way, the pressure is off.
Ohhh, my hospital stay, I lost .4 lbs! Crazy not a lot but in the scheme of things its monumental!
Well, shopped today and sent those pics by overnight mail, so its been productive. Bought some orange juice with tumeric and pro biotics in it! Its awesome!
Back to logging my food.
Oh making plans for our trip the end of next month to Whidbey island WA, to househunt. Then putting our 30 days notice in May. So son will move in first then come down to help us. Exciting!

Oh PS, I've been to the Tokyo Disneyland, and its exactly like the Disneyland in California!!! Down to the Pirates of the Caribbean ride. You are sitting in the ride, while people are talking, the dioramas all are mechanical robotics. But its all in Japanese, so my husband declared himself master interpreter!! Oh Lord, I about pee'ed myself laughing!!!

Machka, have you tried a light silk camisole for under your clothes.
For whatever reason, I am most sensitive on the backs of my arms, on my upper back, around my neck, and on my abdomen.
So I do have several really smooth sleeveless tops which I can wear under certain clothes, and a few really smooth short-sleeved tops which I wear under other clothes, and some really smooth long-sleeved loose turtleneck tops which I wear under other clothes.
But there's a catch to that too ... if I get hot, my skin is more sensitive to the point where the smallest of seams or tiniest of tags can drive me insane.
18 months ago, I could wear anything ... even fairly coarse wool. Now some days I'm OK and can wear my more textured clothing (but not coarse wool anymore), but most days I've got to wear smooth clothes.
I do recall that my mother started experiencing sensitive skin around her neck, upper back, etc. too when she was in perimenopause. I had bought her a lovely pullover with a cowl neck for Christmas, and she couldn't wear it. She had also bought herself a wool blend pullover with a cowl neck and ended up removing the neck and making it a scoop neck ... and then a few years later she gave it to me because the wool was just too much for her even with something smooth underneath.
So I figure my new-found sensitivity does have something to do with perimenopause ... but I also think the measles 18 months ago triggered it.
What I'd like to do (if I ever get the time!!) is to go through my tops and just get rid of a whole bunch of the ones I don't think I'll be able to wear again. I have several wool pullovers which I used to like, but can barely even think about anymore ... and there are quite a few acrylic pullovers which are just about as bad.

We're having a lunch at work, but I had actually forgotten about it so I didn't bring anything, and I did bring my usual lunch. Nor did I dress up in orange or in a traditional costume of my birth country!!
So I might drop by the lunch for a few minutes, but I'm not sure I'll eat anything there.

Made it through day 4 on program eating slightly under calories. I was dying for a can of coke and am drinking it right now. It is nice that we can eat or drink what we want as long as we track it. Work is stressful as usual. I'm a hospice nurse case manager who's patients are seen at home, nursing homes and intermittently hospitals if one of my patients ends up at one. Travel between patients is anywhere from 5 to 10 minutes between patients and it can take me up to one hour to get to the area where they live. My area is from Cleveland to the Pennsylvania boarder. I actually love my job, love my patients and their families and love the freedom of not being behind 4 walls all day. On the bad side they always are pushing us to do more and i'm already doing more than what can be done in 8 hours. We are already doing 2 weekends per month on call and today at a meeting i was told we are going to have to do 3 to4 nights on call as well. I know, I know...what did i expect, it is part of nursing. So one of the problems I have being a hospice nurse on the road is going past all the fast food places and sitting too much because of all the driving.

Machka... tanks for advice regarding weight gain most likely due to water weight. I know you are right and have to remember this when I gain a little
Caroline...I went to OA for awhile and liked it. But, the group I was in was not supportive when I started eating again and asked for help. I guess I pictured they were going to be like AA. Every OA Group is different though. I'm sure there are some very supportive groups out there.
Kim...I'm sorry about your brother. I'm also sorry that he abused you. I think sometimes when we lose someone who did not treat us the way they are supposed to treat us we end up grieving not only because we are losing them but the loss of what should have been. You are a good person to plan his funeral even though he was not a good brother.
Rye...I'm sorry your cat is sick and happy to hear you got him/her to the vet. I'm sure the antibiotics will work and the cat will be better before you know it.
Heather...I know you are right that 10,000 steps is just an arbitrary number. I'm going to stop stressing myself out by that number. As for funeral, I want to be buried under a tree and become one with the tree. It is plan in the making of making graveyards with trees (green space). you get cremated and mixed with the roots of the tree and planted. I'd love to have areas that will remain green because of the burial of people.
Maureli...that is one of my biggest problems eating at night. I am good all day, but when I get home around 5pm until I go to bed that is when I am the highest risk of over eating.

Hi new to all this. I am 63 and at least 70 lbs over weight. I started on March 17th 2018.My carbs were the hardest to get down.The last 3 days I have had cotton,metallic mouth.How do I get electrolytes up?Gatorade has sugar.I drink lots of water and unsweetened ice tea.Sleeping so much better already.Unfortunately gained a pound?I have always been a size 8-10 most of my life and a size 4-6 in my forties.I am not looking to get that small again but getting the excess off will be nice.My energy level is pretty low(strength wise).I am hoping to start to exercise in a few days on my treadmill.I so far today have my carbs down to 8!Trying to stay near 20.Any hints or help will be welcome.I'm keeping my diet simple right now or until I can't eat another egg.Nice to meet everyone here.7

My parents and sister are buried in California The only times I've been to the cemetery was when each of them was buried. One set of grandparents is buried in New York. The only time I've been there was when I went with a cousin whose parents are buried there. My other grandparents are buried in Texas and I have never been to that Cemetery. Jake and I have registered with MEDCURE so our bodies can be used for research. We have specified to our loved ones that we want no memorial or remembrance event. This is a very simple solution.

Gorgeous day today! Husband wants an Otter Pop, (juice pop), and so probably tomorrow after the laundromat, I will go and fill his request! Such a kid!
I am feeling blessed today. Blessed that I have such a wonderful eldest sister, friends and a husband that tells me truths about matters. I get so close to my situation with my middle sister, I can't see things objectively.

Glad to see you home and posting, Becca... and that you got such good counsel from your sister. Families are funny things--but I found when I quit expecting anything of them, I got much less stressed from the whole thing. Then again, I've found that most times when people disappointed me, it was my expectations that were tying me up in knots, not their actions. I've found that being grateful when someone acts decent is a lot less hard on me than being torn up when they don't. May sound callous... perhaps it is. But I'm happy.

I have to share a funny...
I run my *kitten* off all day. We get home. I am walking around house as I am at 7000 steps. My DH calls me, yes, calls me on my cell phone! I go to the man cave and ask what he needs and did he really just call me. His response is he can't move, come here. He tells me to look at his steps. He has 9999. Says he can't move or he will hit 10000-LMAO! He is so funny sometimes!
I am happy families are home and happy. I feel the family struggles.
