CharlieAnn31 wrote: »Just wanted to check in with all of you for my Sunday. Had dinner with my sister, her family, and my brother on Sunday. We had a choice of spaghetti squash or spaghetti with the marinara sauce. I was great, I chose the spaghetti squash, It was actually good. When they brought out the cupcakes for the kids birthday (my niece and nephew celibate the same month) I had one half of one cupcake and stopped there. I also had the smallest of nubs of a piece of Italian sausage and added it as 2 oz. I know i'm not supposed to weigh myself every day but I gained one pound. Not sure if it is because of how I ate or would have gained the pound no matter what. My son is supposed to come over tonight because he will be on this side of town for a class he is going to. I always enjoy every minute I get to be with him.
Kyla what part of ohio do you live in. I live Northeast near the lake in Lake county. I read your post and was thinking that if your husband is blind he would have to be very neat so that he can find things easily. If he does not put things in an exact spot he will not find it. It may not be OCD really but survival.
Dana you made me smile this morning with your picture of the giraffe. Last summer we stayed at a resort in Disney World that had giraffes walking around on the property along with other animals. I loved the giraffes the best. They are so sweet.
Well I have to get off to work. It is going to be a busy day and have to get home in time to welcome my son when he comes over.
Charlie Ann, I just wanted to say that some of us on here weigh ourselves every day and some even do a morning and night weighing. Who's "rules" are you following? We can set our own rules for what works individually and some of us find daily weighing to help us stay on track and correct course and also not panic when we see the daily ups and downs. We can also see how different foods, salt levels, eating out, etc affect our weight, as well as times of the month and even seasons of the year. So don't apologize for weighing yourself whenever you feel the need. It's your body, do what you deem best.
Sharon, I love the Arty Party!
Penny, I enjoy seeing your Northern pics and hearing about your life there. There is a place for everyone in the world. It wouldn't be my choice as I hate the cold. We very rarely get snow here in the moderate microclimate where I live. Other parts of New Zealand get snow, but not us. We are ten minutes from the sea and our weather is "mild". We get plenty of wind and rain and it's usually not too hot not too cold. And then a few nasty storms every year. So a bit of everything really. The rule here is to expect four seasons in one day and dress in layers so you can put on or take off as needed. I like this climate, (even though I do complain on cold rainy days!) because I can ride my horses year round and walk, hike, bike, garden outside. I get cabin fever if forced inside for long times. But I do try to pry my husband away during our winter season to take a holiday somewhere where the sun is shining. I could easily live six months in NZ and six months in USA, and have year round summer. I am working on this plan but it means having a trusted person (possibly one of my daughter's) live on our property to take care of animals while I am away...(And reducing animals numbers so it's not too great a burden on her) So I need to stop getting new animals!
It's a glorious day off here and I am about to take Jock and Major for their morning walk then do kettlebells and hula hoop and then horses, gardening, writing and cooking. Will make a lentil, mushroom curry to go with my rainbow salad: purple cabbage, beets, red onion, tomato, red pepper, yellow pepper, carrot, greens, alfalfa sprouts, broccoli, mushroom, beans with avacado, garlic, soymilk ,coriander and basil dressing.

Today is International Read To Me Day!
"International Read To Me day was established by the Child Writes Foundation to encourage the growth and spread of adult literacy. ... (B)eing read to as a child helped to encourage literacy and a love of reading in adults." Reading was definitely a part of my bedtime from earliest childhood, and I am so grateful it was!
Felicia - There's a gorgeous choral arrangement of "Ulysses" that my women's chorus performed awhile back. YouTube has a bunch of versions, but here's one of them for you (not my chorus): https:// youtu.be/ Od2hXj9xk3M (de-linked)
CharlieAnn - Don't stress about the steps! You'll get there!
Dana - Awwwww... love those photos of the kids with the giraffe!
Kelly - Philip and I also have very eclectic musical tastes! We could run a radio station with the amount of music we own. In fact, our camp for Burning Flipside (kind of like Burning Man, but smaller) runs a tiny public service radio station during the event and Philip always has at least one DJ slot. It's fun to figure out his sets and to share music that a lot of people haven't heard before.
Okie - We've been to Disney World while visiting Philip's grandmother, but one of these days I'd love to see Disney Land!
I worked on the bathroom floor some more over the weekend. It is tedious, filthy work but I'm looking forward to seeing it done! What was on there before was 1950's marbled linoleum with gold sparkles. I forgot to take a "before" picture but here's what it looks like in a heap after pulling it up:
And here is what the floor looks like before and after scraping:
Spring is definitely here. Last week after working on trimming a palm tree in our back yard, I had a large, blistered, intensely itchy insect bite on my left bicep. Just as it was finally starting not to drive me nuts, I went out yesterday to work on the other palm tree and guess what? Now I've got two similar bites on my right bicep! Wondering if there's some kind of spider living in those trees.
This was our monthly "work weekend" where we had specific things we wanted to get done. It felt good to make progress on outstanding projects, and we're definitely making strides toward getting Philip's practice space ready. He wants to drop a day from his schedule in Austin so he can start building a practice here in town.
I've been reading Barbara Kingsolver's book "Animal, Vegetable, Miracle" about the lack of a true American "food culture," and it's very interesting. Her family moved to a small farm in the Appalachians to undertake a year-long experiment in eating - as much as possible - only locally available, in-season food.
Hope the readers among you get some time with a good book today!

Kettlebell workout and treadmill walk done, going to get ready to go with my friend to buy price tags to put on all of the items to be put in the craft store. Getting close now it opens April 2nd.

Beautiful picture. You're right it does look like a Christmas card.5 -

Janet ~ That could definitely make a beautiful card. Maybe your daughter should get it blown up and framed.

Just got home from work and popped in here to see how all you ladies are doing. Already got in 3000 steps and still plan on going to the gym which will give me some more, not to mention walking Dexter.
Wendy...thanks, i know you are right about everyone is different about how often they weigh themselves. I have had people make comments to me because i weigh myself every day. I am glad this group isn't like that.
Yvonne...Are you putting that floor in yourself. that is a lot of hard work. I don't think i'd be able to do that by myself. I'm impressed. You will earn a lot of calories doing that job.
grandmallie... I'm sorry your snake died. Thank you for trying to make him feel better with the heating lamp. That snake lived a long time though. my son use to own a snake named Flick. It was all ball python. Very sweet snake that went to live with a guy who owned a traveling zoo that went around to the schools, nursing homes, children's parties etc... He was so friendly you could hold him without being afraid you would get bit and they liked him for that reason. He got a lot of love and attention with his new papa.
Terry... hang in there...you will lose that 10 pounds again. I wish I would have stopped at 10 pounds when I gained my weight back, I wouldn't be where I am right now if I did.
Barbara...I like the idea of posting your activity at the bottom of your posts
Heather...where are you going on our cruise. How exciting.

By the way on the picture of snow in Denver, if you look to the back at those white covered foothills and then the the left hand end of the hills, that's where Rori lives If you look the right at the hills, that's where our friend Karleen lives (I think that was her name) that made the awesome quilts. I miss her here in our group.

Wrist now in smaller wrist splint, this one I can take off ... OTY, Jesus! I can take a hot shower and wash my hair. Got a few more tests to go through, then they will have run out of places to look around at and I will be very happy about that. So far everything has been normal. Still very sleepy during the day, Neurologist thinks I should be checked for Narcolepsy. I don't know if my excessive sleepiness is that I have not been turning off my computer and going to bed by 10:00pm. Too many shows that I like that come on at 10:00pm.

Sharon love all the painting!!! I just went to Michael's and bought painting supplies. I am going to another painting class tomorrow.
Yvonne and any one else that is pulling up old linoleum flooring make sure it is asbestos free before you do. Some neighbors of ours did this before checking and ended up having to move out of their home for a month while it was being cleaned up. When we had our kitchen floor done twenty years ago they would not take up the floor for that reason. They just put a new floor over the old floor. Their is no way to know unless you get it tested. Some old floors had it others did not. The husband who pulled it up started coughing that is how they know something was wrong. I am assuming Yvonne yours does not.

Been to both Disneyland and Disney World, but not until I was an adult, and went with my godchildren and their parents to the California one, and with the ex- to Epcot. Grew up very poor, in a very rural area in East Texas, and "traveling" was going 50 miles down the road to see my mama's family. And that took an awful lot of convincing to get my father to go at all. They were country folks, and when you left you were loaded down with quilts and canned... well, everything. Whatever they had, they gave.
In fact, I only saw two movies growing up, one was at the drive-in, saw Disney's Blackbeard's Ghost, and then saw The Shootist, with John Wayne. Not sure why my father agreed on the first one, he wasn't much on taking us anywhere. But the second one was because there had been an ice storm, and we'd been without electricity or heat for two days, and he got tired of it.
Hadn't thought of those in years...

Yvonne, you are a better woman than I. No way would we tackle our own demo.
The tile surrounding our tub was grouted today. It looks so fantastic. The walls will be painted tomorrow and the shower grouted. The tub will be painted on Wednesday. The master bath is coming together. It is so beautiful.
I went back to the gym today. No back pain. Yay! We did legs. 3 sets of 15 reps of 7 different exercises: leg press, leg lifts on Smith, push down on assisted pull-up machine, split squats on bench, inner/outer thighs, seated calf raises, and leg curls and extensions. Then we did ab ripper 200.

Janetr - that photo would make a great Christmas Card! I got out my magnifying glass and can see Rori waving at us, lol.
Wendy - your climate sounds great. So grateful we don't get a lot of snow out here - all the photos of snow sure take me back to when I was growing up in Indiana and there would be 6 or 8 feet banks on either side of the road where the snowplow pushed through. I don't wish to live down in California but wouldn't mind a little warmer climate here where I could predictably grow lots of tomatoes and squash... it's iffy some years. And it would be nice to have an avocado and orange tree! Last year I didn't mind the heat but don't want a repeat of the smoke Crossing fingers we all have a great summer!
Kim - thinking of you and your family situation right now. Sending good thoughts your way.
Charlieann, I am glad you are finding what works for you!
Seems like I was online all morning getting my application in for that part-time casual help job I was talking about. They will have three office assistant vacancies coming up in a couple weeks and are a little panicked. I told them I was NOT interested in filling in on the phones or at the counter/issuing permits which is what the office assistants do, so I'll go in for a little interview on Friday morning and tell them in person. I could do it to relieve someone on break but that's all I'd be interested in. Crossing fingers they get permanent staff hired quickly.
I just want a little paper pushing or filing or data entry job in some quiet corner - I know those do come up.
I kind of skipped through the posts -- Barbie, hope your critters are back home and settling in and Jake is enjoying this sunny day. Becca, hope things are progressing for Lee and you are doing well!

Good evening ladies,
It is our turn to get some nasty weather. Has been a fairly mild winter so far. Wednesday they are calling for 2-4 inches of snow in our area. We will see. Tonight my prayers are for those in Tennessee and Alabama where severe weather is on tap. Also concerned for Northeast as another nor'easter is lining up. Strange weather indeed. Today it was 58 degrees and sunny outside. I had to put on a short sleeve shirt at work! That doesn't usually happen until June. Of course by the time we left work the cold air had started to come in.:(
CharlieAnn- I would agree with you on survival, if he hadn't been like this his entire life. Other than his comb out of his back pocket, I only know of two things he has ever misplaced in 25 years! I get more steps in looking for my coffee cup, my phone, or my vape than I get some days at work;) As for the scale, I weigh every morning. I only log on Wednesdays. As Wendy said, you do what works for you. As long as you aren't putting yourself in danger. Then we would need to have a discussion. I am southwest corner of Ohio, between Columbus and Cincinnati.
Yvonne- The wood looks beautiful in there. That is a lot of work! We are on a concrete slab. Our bathrooms had/have carpet in them-ugh. Not around the toilets, that was terra cotta red squares. We had my bathroom redone over 10 years ago. It has heated tile floors and big shower. The master bathroom is the next big project. The tub is going bye-bye, the carpet is going bye-bye, the single sink is going bye-bye, and it is getting a slider door. Currently, it is open into our bedroom. Bathrooms and kitchens are the hardest rooms. You are definitely getting a work out.
Grandmallie- so sad about the snake. That seems rather old to me, but I know just enough about snakes to get me in trouble.
JanetOKC- I too love the picture. I have only seen Denver from a plane. I loved Salt Lake City and Park City when I went to Utah. That was the first time I had really been West of the Mississippi.
Penny- I find it amazing that you live at the north pole. I am like Wendy, in that I prefer someplace warm. I loved the Philippines and Alabama. Though, the water was closer in the RP. I love all the stories of life in places other than the US. It is so interesting to me.
Today was a better day. Was crazy busy at work. Got my stretching in this morning as well as a little steppage. Dinner was easy, leftover spaghetti, so is all cleaned up. Laundry got done. Not working on brakes;) Wanted to spend some time with you ladies. Finished my steps. Now I suppose I should get some paperwork done. The guys got about about 24 billable hours done today, and I need to get it billed out, plus the stuffs from Saturday. Also found out we won a basket at the fundraiser that we didn't know about. One of the club members picked it up for us. We will get it sometime.
I will check in later,
Kylia still kicking in Ohio

(((Machka))) I hope you are able to get some enjoyable rest. Riding long distances on a bike would not be restful for everyone, but it seems to be perfect for you. :flowerforyou:
It can be restful to a point ... but when you get up into the really long distances, it's exhausting.
The 300 kilometre ride we did on March 10th, started at 6 am and finished at 18 minutes after midnight: 18 hours and 18 minutes total time. We ended up taking 2 hours of breaks in there ... short breaks here and there ... so our moving time worked out to 16 hours and 18 minutes.
Although we felt all right on the bicycles, we were tired when we got in ... tired enough I could barely eat. Then we both slept for about 12 hours!!
We've got a series of these events until June or maybe July, so we'll see how we go. One event at a time.

I weigh myself every day because I find the fluctuations interesting and also to keep tabs on things.
Weight gain can happen for various reasons. There might be real weight gain, but you won't gain 1 real pound in one day ... you might gain that in a week, but not in a day. So if you've gained 1 lb in one day, chances are it is water weight.
You can gain water weight for a whole list of reasons including:
- eating salty food
- drinking too much water without eating salty food
- sunburn
- heat / hot weather
- more exercise than usual
- surgery
- injuries
- flights
- TOM
By weighing myself every day, I notice these fluctuations and I can usually pinpoint why I've suddenly gone up a bit ... and I also know that if I stick to my calorie limit, the weight will drop.

Lenora, Snoopy happy dance for your wrist healing.
I weigh daily. It keeps me motivated.
Eating went well today. Logged in all food, stayed within my calories and did kettlebells when I got home. Win win win.

Hi Friends. Lanette is right. I'm right here waving at you Unfortunately, all the snow is gone now.
The painters finished today...yay! Next, I'll shampoo the carpet, then head out to find a new rug and furniture. I'm actually losing sleep tossing ideas around in my head for the zen den. For me, retirement has been more like 'reWIREment'. It's only been a couple of weeks, but I'm having a blast.
I grew up in SoCal so have gone to Disneyland umpteen times. DisneyWorld on my bucket list. For me, it's all about the rides (sorry, Peach)
Scale moving down a little bit every day now that I'm back to working out with regularity. Wendy, that rainbow salad sounds delish! I made the Skinnytaste shrimp patties tonight with a chopped 50/50 mix.
Stay well friends. I'm sending you all energy and light.

Two common causes of red freckles are cherry angiomas, which are domes, & petechiae, which are flat. Petechiae (flat, red, non-blanching, non-itchy freckles) can certainly be caused by exercise or hot water, especially if you are taking aspirin.

Karen: It was petechiae (I have no idea how that is pronounced). Good news is it's 75% gone after applying arnica gel and reiki.5 -

Good Evening!
I am going to say that I have made it through Day 2. My friend took me to an OA meeting and I tenuously liked it. The other women were so kind and open and encouraging. One had a picture of herself 150 pounds ago and she has kept it off for 17 years. I have often heard that people do not go to 12 Step programs until they hit bottom, but I do not feel that's why I went, although I have had much hopelessness in my head for a while, mainly stemming from a very painful divorce. The self-control and motivation from my younger years, not to mention the metabolism, are not what they used to be. I don't think I can start an exercise routine yet, but I have hope I can get through Day 3. When I do start exercising, I may try what Barbara did and list the activity once I start. I will end by saying that once I feel some more success, I hope I can write about some happy things like so many of you!
Til tomorrow,
Caroline in Tennessee

Yvonne, I read "Animal, Vegetable, Miracle" and enjoyed it. What made the biggest impression on me was the discipline of sticking to a pre-planned regimen of what to eat and what to not eat. I like reading about people who have created discipline in their lives.
Caroline, I know many people who have had years of success in OA. Taking the 12 Steps is an amazing road to a better life.
The pets are home and we are all so happy. Bernie has been running all over the house. Bessie and Sasha have asked to go out more than necessary just to run around a bit in their favorite outdoor areas. We all took a nap together.

Rori, you're such a sweetheart, thanks for waving to us all.4
