I really needed mine today, eyes were stinging good when I was doing my cool down. Left it in my bag back at the gym though...

I really needed to run after my work day. We have an audit next week, and my staff are acting ridiculous lately. I ran 3 miles in my new pair of shoes that arrived yesterday. I’ve been wearing Mizuno Waveriders for a couple of years, but it always makes me happy to get a fresh pair! My new running shorts did not excite me as much. They rode up a bit more than I liked...hope my neighbors enjoyed the show!
Upcoming Races:

64 degrees in WI today! At one point I looked down at my arm and saw my Garmin and it registered to me as odd. Took me a second to realize that's because it wasn't buried under 3 layers of clothing for once

Real goals: Arrive at Hopkinton healthy. Get to Boyleston Street under my own power. Recover well.
Today's notes – Last night was a group run in light showers. If the showers predicted for Monday are like that, they will be no big deal. But I don't know whether "showers" in eastern Massachusetts means something more substantial than "showers" in upstate NY.
This evening we got rain. It was substantial as I ate dinner, then I drove through a light rain/showers to get to club practice, and it let up. I had comfortable cloudy weather with temp in the low 50s to run. Ran my 2+ mile warm up, and the expected workout for Boston was on the board: 20 minutes easy, 10 minutes MP, 10 minutes easy. I cut it down to 10/10/10 because I figured that would come out to about the right mileage for the week; and it did. Ran mostly by feel, because I had the watch on intervals to watch the time to change effort level. Easy and MP came out faster than I intended, but the easy intervals were mostly downhill. I deliberately started with a 1000m downhill to practice running easy for the start of Boston; that interval came out to an average pace of 7:39 per mile.
If I can hold myself to a 7:39 average for the first two miles of Boston, that will be a good start. If I average 7:15 for the first two miles, I will likely be in trouble later on. So the plan is to tell myself I'm running easy, and hope that comes out to an appropriate marathon pace. Don't tell myself to run MP, because I'll likely end up running too fast then.
Much of running is mental.
Today's email form BAA said, in part:
The early forecasts for the 122nd Boston Marathon on April 16, 2018 are showing the potential for persistent rain and cooler temperatures (46-53 degrees Fahrenheit/7-12 degrees Celsius) as the day progresses.
As we all know, New England weather can change from day to day. Please be familiar with the forecast as you make your final race preparations.
If we get that temperature, I'm not very worried about rain while running. Rain while standing around waiting to run could be a problem; most likely, I'll take the bus that comes with my premium hotel package and lets me sit on the bus till time for my wave to leave.
It's becoming real. Tomorrow I do laundry and pack. Saturday I fly out, get my bib, and make some on the ground decisions. Sunday I run the last 2 miles of the course early if the weather is reasonable, otherwise take a third rest day in a row. And on Monday, I find out whether I can run a marathon after a training cycle with no significant speed work and a peak long run of just over 30K.

@MobyCarp I would be too giddy to sleep!2

We’re supposed to be getting a winter storm this weekend, so decided that if the weather was decent after work I would do my long run of 8 miles vs. 5 miles. Weather was in the low 40’s with wind being light, so decided to go for it. I missed my last two long runs, so really needed to get this in as there were only three left on the plan. 8 miles in the storm or on the treadmill sounded like too much of an easy out. Got it in, the last two miles felt very sluggish. I need to work on going slower, as my HR is always way too high (even if it feels easy). Tonight, my pace was consistent but I could feel the effort. Glad to have it in, so rest day tomorrow.
4/5 - 4.5 miles
4/9 - 5 miles

@MobyCarp - so exciting just to know you!
I looked up the ER doctor I have had several bad experiences with, on the suggestion of a friend that I find out if he had anyone suing him, etc, so I would know more about who I was dealing with before getting involved. No one is suing him but he has a solid one star rating on webmd - seven other people have bothered finding him online and ranking him as badly as possible in every category. So, I guess I'm not completely alone! I'm gonna call the patient advocate and ask for their suggestion as to how to proceed.3 -
1) Killer from Florida? I need more details. (I'm a bit of a true crime buff. I have this idea or two but no time to work on them. And no, not killing )
2) For some reason I feel like @PastorVincent sounds more like a secret service agent in all black with those sunglasses.
3) I have to eat like every 2 hours. I take in at least 2 gus during a half. I'm slow and my fastest half was around 2:30.
I skimmed so I probs missed a bunch.3 -
April Goals
Aiming for 200 kms run.
And some cartwheels again
03 Apr – 10.1 km
04 Apr – 10.1 km
06 Apr – 35.2 km
08 Apr – 05.1 km
09 Apr – 10.1 km
10 Apr – 05.1 km
12 Apr – 5.6 km
Total: 81.3 km
Run Club Quality Session.
Warmup;
strides;
Intervals of 3, 2, 1 min with 1 min recovery between them, then same again; cooldown.
In the strides we were told to focus on: keeping upright; "pumping" our arms; taking shorter and quicker steps; and using our hamstrings. That exercise helped us go quicker and also helped my form in the intervals that followed.

7.8 miles, slowly shaving off those minutes.

@RunsOnEspresso here you go.

He’s still at large.
Update: Just had a news update, they killed him in Pennsylvania. So while we had a perimeter around a wooden area here he was traveling to PA.

Besides the poor guy probably has to write up a full report about how he handled the man in black running down the street. Ah well.
And yes, I plan to run that same route tomorrow, cept I might add a black headband.
If it's like Alberta The report the Sheriff's have to fill out can be a nightmare or a really funny read. The description the Sheriff's received is very common ie very poor. Had a mental image of you with a headband that had Racoon Eyes on it.0 -

Rest day for me today ... or rebuild muscle day.
I was reading in my latest Women's Running magazine about protein and I am definitely not getting enough. So going to focus on that more. Since I am 56 and exercise a lot I should have about 1.4- 1.5 grams times my weight. I'm only eating about 1/3 - 1/2 of that.
I decided to upgrade to the Premium MFP a few days ago. I've used it for so many years and kept the weight off (other than slight fluctuations) and decided I wanted to check out some of the premium features. I hardly pay for any apps and I thought what the heck - give it a try.

Not cool, Mother Nature. Not cool.

Ugh! I feel so horribly unsupportive of you all! I am way behind, with little hope of catching up.
@skippygirlsmom - Glad you are feeling well enough to go against the doctor's orders
@eponine1984 - Know we are all thinking of and praying for you!
@elise4270 - Keep your chin up! Your attitude has been excellent...I have no doubt you'll get back to running.
@7lenny7 - Not sure about 90's either...yesterday running at 67° felt super hot after this extended winter we've been having.
I am cranky this morning because I did my final pre-HM long run early yesterday, due to pending weather and a business trip coming up. HM is on 4/22. During my run, I mostly felt good, but the hills were hard. Toward the end, felt some "hot spots" on both feet. Well, I have huge blisters on both second toes. I know it probably isn't a big deal, but I don't want to have to not run for the next several days for something so annoying. Any tips? Leave them or drain them? Moleskin pads? Suck it up? Have to admit, I've never had to deal with this before.
4/1 - Start month on rest day, plus it's Easter = no burn + a lot of calories / hot cross buns.
4/2 - 4 treadmill miles + upper body weights/abs.
4/3 - Unplanned rest day.
4/4 - 4 treadmill miles, then weights and abs.
4/5 - 4.25 treadmill miles. Trek Class.
4/6 - Unplanned rest day (Grrr!)
4/7 - 11 miles. Flat, windy, fun.
4/8 - 3.5 mile treadmill recovery, then weights and abs.
4/9 - Planned rest / life day.
4/10 - 4 treadmill miles. Trek Class, included 20 straight minutes of alternating moderate/tempo incline. Ouch.
4/11 - 11 miles. Hot (relatively), but mostly comfortable.
45.75/1103 -
@7lenny7 I don't think the blossoms had much in the way of fragrance. I didn't even notice it on Friday when it was windy and they attacked me
(supposed to be a pic of the attack but I don't know what is going on with the upload option! stupid file won't upload)
Tomorrow is a 5k in my town that I can walk to. I'll be doing it just for fun, and they have bbq and beer afterwards, woohoo. Supposed to be a high of 74 tomorrow and the race doesn't start until 11am so I'm kinda bummed about running in the warm weather, lol. Sunday is only a high of 41 though, so that'll be more comfortable for my long run. Kinda crazy that there's a 33 degree difference in high temps within two days.

2.8 miles done. Guys! I was under a 10 minute mile today. It felt really good to hear that on runkeeper. I did a little bit of speedwork. I was running around a half mile loop for my run this morning, and there was a slight incline (I live in Charleston, SC, so there's really no hills) that I would speed up for, and then I would back off once it flattened out again. I think that helped me to run faster. Plus, I didn't have to push the stroller today. How do you add pictures on this? I took a nice one this morning.

@karllundy Ouch! Moleskin should help until you heal but you should dig into the root cause. I have been dealing with blisters on the tips of my second toes for months now off and on. Some things I have tried:
- going up a half size (didn't help)
- tighter lacing (jury still out)
- different socks (seems to be helping more than anything else)0 -

I can imagine. It is a fairly thankless job with extreme risks and pressures. The paperwork is just like pouring salt in that I would expect.0 -

Yesterday's run was kind of brutal. We went from months of temps in the 20s-40s straight to 78F. I can tell that I am not acclimated to this kind of running right now. Add in the 20+ mph winds and it was down right hard. I had a hard time keeping my HR in zone 2. When I tried to slow down, it only felt harder trying to battle against the wind. I guess it is good prep for race day though, because this would be typical weather for May 6th in Cincinnati.
Tomorrow is the final long run of 20 miles before we gradually start to taper. We will be doing a preview of the marathon course downtown with just about every other running group in the Cincy area. It's always a fun event. It's supposed to thunderstorm, but we will be getting an early start and hopefully be done before they get too out of hand. Hubby will be out of town tomorrow, so it should make for a nice relaxing, rainy afternoon hanging with the pup after my long run. Did I mention we just got a new sofa?

It's race day eve for me! Working a half day from home then getting my stuff together to drive down to Colorado Springs from Denver.
My diet is a little off kilter and my calf and hamstring are tighter than I'd like, but all in all should be a good race.
Could be some mud and the start will be a little chilly. Ithetwose, nothing that I haven't prepped for. OMG I'm gonna run 25k!12 -

@fitoverfortymom have a great race!
I'm just loading up my truck and what should arrive? Thundersleet! I've never seen that before.3 -
@karllundy that made me laugh out loud!
Skip has a meet today and tomorrow. I hope to get in a few miles sometime. She had a great meet last week not the best times but she ran in the 4x8 relay they got second, she got 5th in the 1600 and 2nd in the 3200 making up about 75m on the last lap to move into second then immediately ran the 4x4 and they got 2nd. It was so cold when she lined up for the 4x8 the official sent her off the track to put something on over her shorts and singlet. She put long sleeves on but everyone was running in sweats. In the 3200 and 4x4 the boys and girls ran on the track together. I was sorry I didn’t get a picture of her waiting for the baton. It was 2 guys then her then another guy. She literally finished the 3200 took a sip of water and went right back out. A Busch from another team said what is she doing, but 3 girls never ran a relay before so she said I’ll do it with you. Even after the 3200 she still ran a 1:15 400 with 20 mph winds. I was proud momma.8 -
I don't know if this link will work but here's a short video of the start of @MNLittleFinn 's race.
