I was supposed to run last night, but my HR has been higher than usual for a couple days and my breathing has been awful... I'm thinking allergies. And then I had a crap day at work and a frustrating commute home, so I decided to nix the run. I wanted to do a HR-based recovery run, and with allergies + stress there was no way I was going to get my HR low enough.
Ran this morning, just a bit of a shakeout before the relay tomorrow. My HR was still higher than I'd like so I begrudgingly picked up some 24-hour allergy tablets, and now 2ish hours after taking one I feel fine. HR is back where it normally is at rest, and I can finally take full, deep breaths for the first time in a few days. Stupid springtime!

@kristinegift - I'm so sorry about your Pacer's group. Maybe you could re-organize the group around another locale so you could keep running together?
@shanaber That's the plan! The other running store in town (literally 2.5 blocks away from Pacers) does group runs the same night of the week, at the same time... but with demos and sponsors and pub runs, so it will likely end up being an upgrade!2 -

Yesterday, ended up being a great day to run - just a slight sprinkle midway through my long run. I went back to the state park trails and ran 12 miles. It was warmer and I was a bit slower than last week's long run, but I was glad I did it without any walking.
This morning was actually HOT. I even put sunscreen on my face! I also wore a brimmed cap. I'm 40 years old. I need to ward off those wrinkles!
Glad tomorrow is a rest day, my legs are tired!

I was just feeling warmed up when I needed to run back for the toilet. Other than that, good run today, left side niggles much less than earlier in the week. I should have gone out an hour earlier though. It was pretty warm by the time I finished.

Little on the short side for a long run but was all I was up for today. Nice weather and good friends made it a good run though.
Good job @marisap2010 on your age group win and PR! That's awesome!
Nice job @orphia as well in coming in as first female at your parkrun! Great time!
Nice sunrise DC pics @cburke8909.
Hoping our other racers today are doing well!

Well... I still haven’t gone back and looked to see my total mileage for the month, but today was my first organized race in months and months. So 3.2 today, so 6 Milesish for the week at least. My friend with two toddlers... well the toddlers are bigger, so it’s more of a handicap, and even with a two kid in stroller handicap she still had me by probably a quarter mile which was discouraging. I came in just a hair under 40 minutes... so 10 minutes slower than this time last year... but still fastest and longest outside run I have had in months.7
-
My 5k was hotter than I’d expected and I didn’t come into the day in a good state, digestively speaking (lots of Mexican food and beer yesterday), so I came in 2 minutes slower than my 30-minute target. 9th of 28 in my group. Oh well. I’ll have another shot at it next time.

Met my April goal today after running the Deer Run 10k. I ran this one last year in 1:11:26 and I was really trying to PR. Today's time was 1:03:05 and I won 3rd place in my age group!
My left foot has been bothering me so I went out and got new shoes and that seemed to really help today. I was wearing Saucony Guides and the mileage was only at 117 miles but it hurt every time I ran over 4 miles or so. I switched back to Brooks Ravenna 9s (I loved the 7s and hated the 8s) and no pain today so I hope that's the end of the issue.
Here goes my first attempt adding pictures

@JulieS3103 Congrats! That is a huge PR and nice AG place!
@Orphia Congrats! Very nice running outfit!
And Congrats to any others that raced this weekend!
I only did 12 miles today, but it felt much harder than the 15 last week. Had a knot in my stomach the whole way. Probably stress from car troubles and other stuff. But there was one good thing about this run...no sweat in the eyes, thanks to the Gutr headband. Thank you @noblsheep! I ordered one from Amazon and got it the next day! It really worked! Can't ever remember a time I didn't have sweat stinging my eyes.
But reached my goal for April. First time I have run 100+ for 2 months in a row.

Well... as expected no running for me in April, but I did walk almost five miles yesterday with no swelling. Mixed feelings - I liked getting out on the trail again but felt like a big dog on a leash not being allowed to run. Seeing a different Ortho on Monday about possible surgery. No running for me in May either but I will keep checking up on the thread to see everyone else's progress! Love you guys, keep making those PRs!9

9.5km Trail Run Wet and Muddy, Went out on Cadillac Ranch - High line Trail.
Very early in the season for this as the creeks are full bore, the mud holes deep, hills extremely slippery. So much fun.
The first creek/low spot was 3m wide with no option due to heavy bush and wild roses ie thorns and more thorns. The 2nd creek had cut a new - very deep channel 1.5m wide and just as deep. Last fall it was all of 0.2m deep and 0.4m across. A bit of a slow go as I was taking it easy due to the muddy/slippery conditions and walked some of the real steep/wet sections. Preservation over performance.

Lovely day for a parkrun and apparently it was a parkrun PB for me. I love meeting all the parkrun tourists who are visiting Boston and making the time to come and join us for a run.
This brings April's total to 58 miles, which is a bit less than I was aiming for, but my planned long run on Monday should boost that a little.6 -
I didn't run at all today as I have been trying to get rid of a sore throat for a few days. It started immediately after my bike ride on Tuesday, and when I ran on Thursday it seemed to get worse. So I might go crazy. But I did get some housework done, taking all of the beds apart, spraying everything down with the allergen-killer stuff and soaking the bedding in a similar solution, then we spent the rest of the day with friends at their vacation house and walked to the lake. My throat is killing me, but otherwise I feel fine. Hmm... what to try next, night seems to be the worst, so maybe it's the dry air or pollen. Or the typical taper-sickness. I'm going to have some tea and go to bed.
Best wishes to those racing tomorrow!4 -

April running total to date – 132.32
Nominal April mileage goal: 130 miles
Real goals: Arrive at Hopkinton healthy. Get to Boyleston Street under my own power. Recover well.
Today's notes – Got to Dedham on schedule today, went out with a group for a shakedown run. The group was running slow enough to mess with my form, so I ran ahead. Ended up missing one turn, then turning the wrong direction the next turn after I got back on course. Realized my first error early; made the same wrong turn last year on the shakedown. Realized my second error along about time to start back from the out and back. So I got a very pleasant run in, it just didn't match the race course as was planned.
Fortunately, there will be road marshals tomorrow. And a crowd of faster runners ahead of me who should know where they're going. That was good enough for me to stay on course last year.
As of today, I've met my nominal April mileage goal. Assuming I don't come up lame tomorrow, I can pretty much say I've met all three of my real goals for April as well. Race tomorrow, rest on Monday, and I need to think about May goals.

Wow! I am so behind on this thread. I'm sure there's a lot of race reports to catch up on.
My first 5k (in awhile) is this Thursday. It's an evening race. Should I have a strategy for running this week? My plan was to do a long run today (probably 4 miles) and maybe a shorter run on Tuesday or Wednesday. What do the veteran runners think? I'm hoping for sub 10 min/mile splits. We'll see.
Also, my birthday is coming up soon, and I'm going to buy a fitness watch. What do you all suggest? I'm not sure I'm sold on a running watch, as I like to do other fitness activities, including swimming (so I'm looking for waterproof). I also don't want to spend an arm and a leg, so I'm looking for something under $200. I'm leaning towards the Samsung gear fit 2 pro.0
