We had saved a bit of money here and there for months now to have a bit of a splurge celebration for our anniversary dinner but after we got such a great deal on the meat at Costco we decided to not actually go out to eat.
We did clean a closet together and found old posters we had, some he had up with tape when he was a teenager and some travel posters from our memorable vacations together (London, Saba, and Greece) and some signed comic book artist prints etc. so we went to the frame shop, and these precious memories are being put on foam core and at 1/2 price thanks to a sale! Much more satisfying and appropriate way to honor our life together than a fleeting dinner!
We are walking our house and redecorating our walls mentally while we wait for them to be finished in a few days
John made the peposo yesterday, we’ll eat it tonight. I’m off to make lemon squares. We rarely do much except fresh fruit for desert, but we both love lemon bars so I thought it would be a nice gesture this weekend.

Machka: I wonder if biking will eventually help your DH regain some of his old self. My husband has had physical challenges that have taken sailing away from us, and that was our shared joy and passion for most of our marriage. Now I ride horses and enjoy it, but I'd trade horseback riding for sailing with my husband in a heartbeat. My son tells me he'll take me sailing when he is able, but that will not be any time soon. Perhaps the two of you will find something new that will give you a sense of shared adventure.
He's riding the stationary bike in the rehab gym and enjoying that. When he eventually comes home, I'm hoping we can set up a trainer and Zwift for him, like I've done for me. Then, hopefully, we can ride together indoors for the remainder of the winter.
We'll have to wait and see about riding outside. Right now I don't think his balance is good enough, but I was there during rounds to day, and at last got a chance to talk to the head doctor and tell him about a couple issues my husband is having, which I think are contributing to his balance issues. So finally, the doctor has ordered further tests. I've been telling nurses about these things for the past 2-3 weeks, to no avail so it was a relief to finally have someone listen.
They often get focused on the "main things" ... the most important parts of Rowan's recovery, and kind of ignore the more minor issues. But now these more minor issues are, I think, hindering some of his progress.
Here's hoping they'll deal with them this week.

Janetr Healing thoughts for your daughter after her appendectomy. And wow! Passing the CPA Exams? Only 50% pass them, and only 10% pass them all the first time through. I'm thinking your daughter must be a very smart woman. I don't know if our friends from across the seas and oceans know what CPA is - Certified Public Accountant - might be called something else in other countries. Very rigorous exams in the USA.
Rye What a great way to celebrate your anniversary. Love it.
Heather I don't remember if I told you, but I am reading your new book. Just got started.
Rita I'm tired of the heat and I don't live anywhere as hot as you do. I just had to come in after less than an hour replanting iris because it was too hot and humid to do anymore.
At this rate, it will take me the rest of the week to finish moving that iris bed! I just cannot stay out there for very long. Even though I am cursing a little bit right now, I am so pleased to see healthy plants, with virtually no evidence of rot, and very few iris borers. While labor intensive, it will be so worth it next spring. After that, we have a large bunch of day lilies to relocate, but may wait until fall to do that. Some of them are rebloomers, and we usually have a late frost, so there should be plenty of time then. And we are going to try to move some Baptisia. That may fail. The reason we are doing this is because we are trying to revise the edge of a large perennial bed next to our lawn to make it easier to mow. Right now there isn't enough of a "no man's land". We might put rubber mulch edging to further define the revised edge so we can mow more easily. I think it's kind of pricey. Has anyone ever used it?

Back to women that we hope our sons will some day meet. You never know when it is going to hit; but, when it does - you'll know it. He isn't that old anyway is he? He's still in his 20s, isn't he. Men usually take a lot longer than women to 'fall in love' (or 'admit' it). I knew the moment I 'heard' Louis' voice - that train had already hit me before I even looked up to see his face.

My husband and I will be married 31 years in June. We dated when I was 13 and he was 17 for the summer. We broke up because we lived in different towns and had no way of seeing one another. Move ahead to when I was 18 and he was 22, I was living with a guy in Toronto 12 hours from our hometowns. My husband called and asked if he could stay with us in Toronto until he got on his feet and found a place. My current boyfriend and I said yes. The night my husband left home to come up, his Mother told his Father that him and I would be married within a year. My husband moved in with my boyfriend and I in January, my husband and I got married in June. His Mother knew something that neither of us knew. She still tells us that story all the time.

went to the parade, very very emotional, they played taps 3 times, 3 times I was in tears, and the read my dads name as a veteran who has passed since last memorial day... came home and took Alfie for a walk, and am going to lie down again.. im just emotionally spent..he has been gone 5 months and it is just hitting me now.
Losing a parent is so difficult. I personally don't believe that you ever "get over it", you just find a way to accept it and still enjoy your life. It still hits me like a ton of bricks though some days and it's been almost 6 years. I hope you can remember your Dad with fondness and that you have a family that supports you as long as you need it.3 -

For those who were asking, here's the link to the house we fell in love with. It will need some loving... and a whole lot of scrubbing, but it's in such an amazingly quiet spot. Only one house can even be seen... and it's got everything we were dreaming of but the one... sitting on top of a mountain, or on the side of one. It's in a little valley.
It's one of those places that needs the lights on inside to make it look homey--and my husband loves the dark stained cedar siding. I'd prefer something more of a silvery gray... but the size is perfect, with room enough for a craft room and an office, as well as the pole barn, which will make an excellent wood shop. The location is just what we wanted, outside any city limits. No major repairs that we could see from the outside, except possibly the septic, but with the price they want, we could afford to sink some cash into getting that fixed. We'd have to move to satellite Internet, which is not my favorite, but can be dealt with, in the end. Isolated enough, but 20 minutes from Corey's work and five from a small town with a grocery store. Private, quiet--you could hear the wind in the trees. And literally at the end of the road...
But, of course, we found it on the Memorial Day holiday weekend... and no realtor will answer their phone this weekend. In Texas, they would have jumped us like a duck on a June bug, but apparently Arkansas is a little more relaxed about the whole thing. That's OK, too. In fact, it's kind of what we're looking for.
So... who knows? If it's not the right place, then we won't get it, and if it is, we will. Either way... we're going to do just fine. We've got plenty of time if this one doesn't work out. Love y'all... taking the holiday to attempt a couple paintings while I'm waiting for a sewing machine part to arrive in the mail. Had planned on quilting this weekend, but painting is the next best thing!
Love y'all,
Lisa
What a beautiful property, I hope you get it if it's what you want.0 -

Kelly Thank you so much for your comments about my grandson. If it makes us feel as bad as we do, I can only imagine how it must be for him. He speaks up if he sees a classmate repeatedly being treated unfairly. I don't think that endears him to Mrs. Evans, who apparently has some favorites in her classes, and then some who are definitely not her favorites. I don't think my grandson is the only one who plucks her nerves. I just think he is the designated whipping boy she has chosen for the year. My head nearly explodes when I think about it.
Yesterday for his 12th birthday he had 3 friends over, and they went to see "Solo: A Star Wars Story" in the IMAX 3D theatre, and had a sleepover afterwards. I haven't heard how it went. I imagine they are all recovering today with naps.
I haven't seen the Solo movie yet. I would also like to see "The Avengers".

M in Oz: I suspect that your observations of your DH are insightful and hope the medical people will appreciate your POV. :flowerforyou: Technology may help with the biking options. We have a pair of terra-trykes that we bought years ago when DH was just beginning to have issues. No worries about falling out of the seat. Motor assists are available and he's thinking about whether he wants one. I'll post a pic if I can. Your shared biking days may be over, but maybe not. Sending hope and good wishes your way.
Lisa: The house looks wonderful. Keeping my fingers crossed for you.
I want to prune my rhododendrons today. I'll put the trimmings into the garbage can. We don't have a better way to deal with them.

Home again to gorgeous sunny weather. Haven't been able to access Community on MFP had to reinstall app on ipad. Have 7 pages to catch up on. Scared to get on scale tomorrow, lots of food and drink. Difference now is will not use it as an excuse to give up but will get back on plan this week. Will go back now and read what I've missed.

Lisa - Wow! That's a lot of house and land for the money! Hard to imagine those prices over here in our cluttered and overcrowded country. Hope you get a good look at it soon.
Karen - So glad you are reading it.
Janetr - Best wishes to your determined and talented daughter. She sounds like a fighter.
Feeling just a little unsettled with the wedding tomorrow. I hate all that socialising with strangers business. It will be nice to see DH's relatives, but getting into a posh frock and having to behave is not something I relish.
Rye - We have more or less given up just going out for dinner on our own, unless the restaurant is very special. We eat better at home! I like the idea of the memories.
Much love, Heather UK xxxxxxx2 -

I personally feel that this is the key! Too many times in the past I have used a bad day or few days as an excuse to give up.

I kind of fell off the wagon, but I’m here!
DH and I went out to Mt. Ida about 35 west of us to the Good Ol’ Days Car Show. It was hot but fun.
We stopped at a few antique shops too. A lot of stuff out there!! I got an old blanket chest for $30. It needs to be cleaned up and maybe I’ll paint it antique white to go into my guest room.
When we got home it poured rain and dropped 20 degrees. Did you noticed the blue skies?
I made Waldorf salad for myself since DH won’t eat fruit or veggies. It’s so good! I made a big batch to last a few days.
That’s about it. I’m making cheese enchiladas for dinner. Rice for DH and salad for me.
Kim Your dog is a beauty! I had a springer spaniel that looked like your Levi.
Rebecca Like your beads! You had me shocked! I thought those boobs were yours at first! LOL especially knowing you like the nudist lifestyle!! But then I saw the scar!!
Happy Memorial Day and I’m grateful for all our military’s heroes that gave their lives for our freedoms.

Hi Sisters, Lisa, I'll keep my fingers crossed for you to get that lovely property. I wonderful peaceful retreat for a writer. You could have a horse there. That's always my criteria for whether it's a good property or not. LOL.
Heather and Kelly, Born to Run is one of my favourite books. I picked it up at the airport on my way to visit my family in Montana and it reignited my love of running. I have also read Natural Born Heroes and again, it was inspiring-a mystery ,an adventure, a delve into history, an exploration with the writer... I am just heading out now for a thirty minute run with Jock. chat later, Wendy1 -

afternoon ladies~
it was a nice day, we had a little memorial ceremony here at the Atrium , then Trudy and I walked up to the store, and came back... she made Lillan and I a turkey dinner, boy was it delicious.... went earlier with my daughter to pick up her wedding dress...
she tried it on and she looked beautiful.. it isn't fancy but it is gorgeous...
well her fiance. nixed getting Tents, said if it rains oh well.. you know im sorry to say this but ..you know this is your wedding and if its something that Tracy wants he should bend over backwards for her..
enough about that.
Katla~ yes I was there when they read his name and I was glad to be there,,, I have his ashes, and have decided on his upcoming birthday Oct 4th to bury him with our mom... all the summer stuff will be over and we should be able to get his brother, and few of his friends to be there.. it will be a military burial so it will be hard again.. but closure too..
I am trying to fill out court paperwork, because the idiot reverse mortgage company is suing the estate as they want there money right now, so basically they are suing my brother and I,, like we need this on top of everything else..

Morning everyone
Home today as I have someone coming to clean my oven. I am going to take the uppies for a walk whilst she is here. GD is studying for her exams so there will be someone here in case.
Then afters I am going to take GD material shopping for her school task. She is after white denimum to make a jacket but white denimum seems to be a "in fashion only" thing in the material shops so need to find a similar material
Lisa - Love th house
Ryenday - Love the fact you can still fit into your wedding dress. Hope you had anice anniversary

Heather yes I drink kombucha daily. I thought about making it but never have. It is fermented tea. The brand I like GT does not add sugar but uses fruit juice instead. It also does not add stevia which I do not like. It does contain 8 grams of sugar which comes from the fruit juice per 8 ounce serving. I drink it in a wine glass so I limit my portion to one serving.
I do think it is helps with my immune system. (It is more from observation.) It is a bit pricey. I do not drink wine. This is in place of wine for me. They do add fizz so it does not like to be shaken or bumped. I made the mistake of keeping it in our refrigerator door and found a spill on the floor in front of the refrigerator.
Margaret
I'm another fan of kombucha and drink it almost everyday as my evening 'mocktail'. I frequently bring it to parties as my AF beverage. I support the local brewers that sell through the farmers markets and small natural food stores. There is one brewpub that my niece turned me onto which has several flavors on tap, which you can buy by the growler. I carry an empty bottle in my car to make the most of those opportunities when I stumble into them. The varieties of kombucha are growing everyday. My advice: sample several!
