Hi there. I am 52.5

Had another boost to my spirits this evening. The woman who owns the cleaning agency we use rang us up about our replacement for our cleaner, Fiona, who is leaving after this next Wednesday. I am delighted for her as she will be getting a full time social work job with in house training. She is worth it. The owner said she really wanted to tell us about how Fiona has been singing DH and my praises, saying how she really hopes she can be like us when she is older, and how much she can see we are in love, and how much she admires and respects us. !!!!!!!!!! We are an inspiration to her
I think we were both amused, but compliments are always nice.

Kim lol!!
Well, I was able to return the new bedroom blinds for a full refund (hooray and thank you Lowes) and found something just as nice for half the price so I guess it was meant to be! I tried to install the brackets myself to no avail, will have to have our handyman come and set them up--can't wait to finally have blinds, we've had newspaper hanging on the new windows. Just cleaned out my freezer drawers and reorganized to lessen food waste, feels good.
Heather My DH just finished watching the match, and you are an inspiration, the compliments are well deserved.

Lanette - DH saw or heard somewhere the past couple of days that 'if' you drink your coffee 'black' for 20 days you won't want to add anything to it. I think I would have to slowly back off the sugar; but, I only put 1 teaspoon in a 12 ounce mug.
Rebecca - Most people would put their cell phone right above and to the right of the knife and cake knife and under the red wind glass. My DDnL#1 would have hers stuck to her ear; so it really would not matter. But, if you are at a place 'fancy enough to require this setting' then the 'damn thing' needs to be left somewhere: car, pocketbook 'off', or home. That's never going to happy with her because she is 'literally ADDICTED to it'. She hyperventilates if she cannot answer it or at least look at whatever is posted on FB (which is her home page). If I were my DOS, she'd turn that 'off' at night or else she'd be sleeping in the other room. It keeps him from getting a good restful sleep.
I slept about an hour this afternoon (did not put my Cpap on), wasn't that sleepy, just dosing off for about 20 minutes at a time. I've got to get my 2nd head gear to be able to use my old one in the den. I ordered one the other day, just have not gotten it yet.
Got some 'essential oils'; but, found I have to put it in a teaspoon of coconut oil because otherwise it is overwhelming. In a couple of weeks, when I have an appointment I will go see the girl that sells them at my MD's office to find out how to use them. Ordered some today; hopefully they will honor the card I put them on after changing it from an old one that I paid off and closed. Today I woke up with a headache, so I used the 'migraine' oils and surprisingly it worked. Maybe there is something to this.
This month I will have my chairs paid off - yeah, just a partial payment and then I will have a lot more in my pocket; just need to figure out how not to get used to spending it. We need a new dishwasher and clothes washer. That will come out of the money we get when we thins the pines out the last time in our lifetime.

Hi all. It's been a long hot day and I am getting a migraine, so I'm heading to bed early. I'd appreciate prayers and/or healing thoughts for a co-worker who had urgent brain surgery today for a couple of fast-growing tumors. Meg from Omaha10

Happy Friday Night ladies!
Just bopping in for a few minutes here....
Carol - I wanted to comment on the 16:8 intermittent fasting. I am trying to do it more for getting my insulin resistance under control and letting my brain and body do "housecleaning" during the times it's not dealing with processing food than for weight loss. This is based on suggestions by several researchers as a way to help prevent dementia.
I found the FastDiet - 5:2 - five days of eating "normally" and 2 days of really reducing calories per Michael Mosley's plan was better for weight loss for me.
Rye- I found out where the low carb on the 2 Fast days came from. Check out (if you haven't already) thebloodsugardiet dot com. Another Mosley book - this one is to get blood sugar under control and he describes three methods. First is 8 weeks of 800 calories per day. Second is cutting carbs way back on the 2 Fast days, as mentioned before (I am guessing the 5 days are low sugar and refined carbs as well). Third is just going on a lower carb Mediterranean diet - takes longer but apparently a person ends up with the same result, which is burning visceral fat and getting away from the prediabetes.
The website is quite helpful but I want to know more details so ordered the book - I see it is available at our library. I pretty much eat the Mediterranean he suggests except I am not able to eat a lot of fish so hopefully subbing a little free range poultry and grass fed beef will work. The part I like is where he says eat plenty of eggs and full fat dairy, if your body will tolerate it.
I've been doing the 14:10 to 16:8 eating for the past week, and often going to bed a little hungry. I was dismayed to discover my Fasting Blood Sugar is higher when I got up than when I went to bed! AARRGGHHH. So I have an appointment with my doc on Tuesday to see what's going on. Dr. Google says it's prediabetes, lol. Hormones and all kinds of stuff out of whack. Maybe all the Reese cups and cookies have finally caught up with me. Hopefully a few weeks of cutting sugar will help.
Karen in VA - I think you are eating basically Mediterranean? Thanks for the snack tips by the way!
Have a good evening!

Took the water class today. The plan for tomorrow is to do a cardio strength DVD.
Rebecca – I try to hit the stores that are on the way. I never want to go out of my way to get to the stores. When the food queen gets her feathers ruffled, what I usually do (mostly out of habit) is try to have something to eat that will up the calories. Unfortunately, sometimes this winds up being junk food. But I thought I was pretty good last night having the cashews and yogurt. Admitted, that’s not exactly the kind of yogurt I would normally have had. I normally have the plain and then add my own fruit etc. But this time I had some of the premixed stuff. Chobani does have a plain variety, and I was able to get some of those with my coupons, but I did have to get some of the others, too. But I guess it was worth it in the end
Do we have any members in southern Delaware?
Katla – I’m glad you found a good compromise so that dh can enjoy himself, too (RV instead of boat). Vince always complains that I keep my phone in my pocketbook and sometimes don’t hear it. Many times I do but it takes a bit to get it out. I tried a pocketbook with one of those holders outside the pocketbook for you to put your cellphone in. It closed with a velcro strap. Eventually what happened is that the velcro wore away and one time when I threw my pocketbook in the car, it fell out. Did I ever panic! That night that pocketbook went into the garbage.
Exercised, went to Big Lots to get Vince bread and see if they carried Vitamin C (we need it for the pool). They didn’t have much so went to Dollar General, they don’t have it, on the way home stopped at Dollar Tree and got some. Went in the pool, now going to get dinner ready.
Pat – when your dh had his eyelid surgery, did he have to ice it?
Vicki – have a great day!
Kim – a while ago Jess honed her influencing skills. She called me saying “ma, with your awesome baking and my awesome decorating, we absolutely can make Laura’s wedding cake”. I’d never made a wedding cake before! I’m definitely not a cake decorator so thank goodness Jess decorated it. Glad the woman decided on a cake rather than cookies. It’ll mean so much more that her mother made it and a good friend decorated it.
Zila – welcome
Christine – welcome. This is a great group of women you’ve found
Meg – feel better, and prayers for your friend

I started drinking my coffee black when I was a teenager ... and to me, it tastes really weird if someone accidentally adds sugar to it. And I actually feel slightly nauseated if someone gives me a coffee with milk.
Funny thing, sort of related to this ... in Australia, hardly anyone drinks their coffee black. Just about everyone fills their coffees with milk and sugar so that it's hardly coffee at all. My husband is Australian, and he does that too.
Over the past 3 months when he was in hospital, I hardly touched the long-life milk in the fridge, and didn't even look at the sugar. He's been home a week, and Thursday night, he told me that he needed more milk and sugar. What? I could have sworn there were at least 2 cartons of milk and some sugar. Then I remembered ... oh yeah, he puts milk and sugar into all his "coffees" and on his cereal (which I also rarely eat).
So I got milk and sugar.
But because those things are heavy to carry home (walking and on the bus), it prompted me to do something that I've been thinking of, but just hadn't bothered doing yet .... ordering groceries online to be delivered! They're supposed to arrive this afternoon, so we'll see if this idea will work. Hopefully!! It'll mean I don't have to go to a grocery store very often.

I stopped drinking coffee in 2009 when I figured out that what I really liked about coffee was the fancy sweetened creamer that I put in it.
Carol, the picture of Sasha and mirror was taken in my friend's yard when I was watering for her. She had seen mirrors in lovely gardens she had visited and thought it added to the ambiance in the same way that mirrors do indoors. I don't have a mirror in my yard.
Today was an especially challenging line dance class to teach. There were three new students who had never done any line dance and part of my plan was to teach a dance that was at the high difficulty level for the class. I took my time teaching the new dance. Lots of people asked if we could dance it again and at the end of the class all three new students came to tell me how much fun they had and asked to me added to the weekly e mail I send with preview of the class.
I never click the button at the bottom of the food diary to tell me what I'd weigh in five weeks. It is not valuable to me. Also, I turned off all the automatic feeds to the home page. If I want my friends to know something about my day, I write a special message. So there are no automatic messages about my food diary, exercise, or how many days I've logged.

Michele - the bride did not decide on a cake instead of cookies, she decided on a cake in ADDITION to cookies, the cake is for cutting and the bride and groom to feed to each other, the cookies are for the guests. I'll take a picture tomorrow and post it, very simple (thank goodness) but with fresh flowers and I don't want to pick them until tomorrow.
Also about the fires, they are far enough away to not be a danger - but close enough that we have smoke and the smell of fire in the air.

I keep my phone in my pocketbook ...
I think this is a regional difference ...
"Pocketbook"
I've heard the term, and I think you probably mean "Purse" (which I used in Canada) or "Handbag" (which I use now in Australia).
But when I hear it, I think "Wallet" ... like this ...

RANT WARNING!
I ate 2 pieces of cheese pizza from Papa John’s in addition to breakfast lunch and dinner! Ugh!
The grandkids are getting to me! I love them dearly but after a month, I’m slipping into stress eating. My DYD, the kids mom, and I almost got in to it today texting. She said I should relax! Right.
It was over the issue when she was going to email an authorization for me to use her employee discount at Marriott Hotels. I asked her to get to it and I finally received today. It stresses me out to wait on something I have to print out. S**t happens!
I took the grands out to the creek to swim again. They wanted me to go in, but without some help I just could not get in. Sure I might have been able to get in, but who’s going to haul me out? I had back surgery-don’t need any accidents.
Then they called me fat, mean and I broke my promise I would swim. Damn! I went swimming at the YMCA with them all month. I’ll be so glad to be in the car heading down to Florida to let Jess take over. I may bring duck tape! LOL

Me too Margaret! He informed me these operations are few times where afterwards he says the patients are happier! He said by September I should feel So much better. These are some symptoms of hiperparathyroidism: (from The Mayo clinic website)
I was like yes, yes, yes to many of them!
Rebecca
I'm seeing my endocrinologist on Monday and taking this list with me! My parathyroid levels were up again on this last test. I'm tired of not feeling well. All the best Rebecca!

My husband and I got out for a short 500 metre walk this afternoon. It was supposed to be rainy, windy, and cold all day ... but it cleared for a bit, and the wind died down, and the temp crawled up to 10C so I figured we'd grab the opportunity and get out in some sunshine!
He's been out walking with his home care worker a couple times this past week ... one was just a very short walk, but the other was a slow 1.9 km, with a couple breaks. 1.9 km isn't bad at all!
But I do want to get him an appointment with his GP to see if he can take Vit D. Prior to the accident, he was outside all day long, and got lots of Vit D that way (that's the best way to get Vit D. ) ... but since the accident, he hasn't spent much time outside.
BTW - I doubled my Vit D intake. Prior to his accident, we were spending lots of time outside on the weekend on our bicycles or hiking or whatever ... hours! Since then, I do walk outside around lunchtime, but I'm not out much on the weekends. So I suspect my Vit D level may have dropped.

Hi,
Was out of the house at 6.10 today. Running through the beautiful lanes with the cool air on my bare arms, the low sun flashing through the deep green hedges and trees and blinding me, it was superb. I listened to the Soul Music pods, Strawberry Fair and Stabat Mater. Magic.
Saw two cats and one car.
England game at 3pm today. I will do something else. Don’t know if next door are having another party. Might do some writing archive sorting. It is still a heat wave here.
I roasted a whole butternut squash yesterday to have with chilli and have half left. We will have it in a quinoa salad for lunch, with chorizo. Yum.
I did most of my exercises after breakfast. Just wimped out on 70 calories. So I'm 830 calories to the good today and will eat back 600.
Been reading THE YEAR OF LESS, by Cait Flanders. About how she gave up buying most things for a year and hugely decluttered her life. Enjoyed it. Food for thought.

Lenora coconut oil is an excellent carrier for essential oil. They are strong so it is good to use a carrier oil. I bought a small guide book that tells me which oils are better for what I need. It is good to consult with your friend. One I do daily is I mix some lemon essential oil with my Epson salts and use it as a leg rub in the bath to help with leg cramps. I also love peppermint oil mixed into shea butter for my feet. An advantage to oilsl is they do not become antibiotic resistant. I used tea tree and eucalyptus when I had my sinus infection. I just opened the bottles and breathed in. Do not apply oil directly to your nose they are too strong.
I do not put sugar in my coffee. I just buy a high quality coffee. Last time at the farmers market I found a vendor who sold freshly roasted coffee beans. I grind them right before I brew. He told me to also get them slightly wet before brewing to get more flavor out of them. Lovely.
I also fortunately do not like sugar in my tea. I have learned to ask. Some places serve sweetened tea. My favorite place to order tea are Indian and Asian restaurants. They know how to make a good cup of tea. I have given up other places because they give you a pot of hopefully hot water and a tea bag. Waiters and waitress don't like it because they have to make special trip to get you more hot water.
If you want to ease yourself off sugar with tea adding cinnamon and orange peel sometimes helps. Cinnamon in coffee also is tasty.
Machka I had an Australian principal once and he said adding milk and sugar to tea they called it tipple you tea. Is that correct?

Heatwave has broken here and we had a most beautiful evening out on the back porch. Rachel is mostly packed and we had a late night sitting out talking-sweet. She leaves Sunday.
We caught sight of a squirrel balancing on the roof and dont you know that little critter scooted right into the attic by way of the fan opening. Now we have to figure how to evict him and keep any more from moving In rent free!!

Tipple refers more to alcohol ... having a drink, drinking a lot.
I wouldn't think "tipple" would refer to adding milk and sugar to tea ... more like gin!
http://www.foodtolove.com.au/recipes/tea-party-tipple-24897
When it comes to tea, I drink the following, none of which are bitter enough to need anything added to them. In fact, the rooibos one is quite sweet all on its own:
Lady Grey
Lemon Ginger
Rooibos - with orange and cinamon
Flavoured chamomile
