Michele - the bride did not decide on a cake instead of cookies, she decided on a cake in ADDITION to cookies, the cake is for cutting and the bride and groom to feed to each other, the cookies are for the guests. I'll take a picture tomorrow and post it, very simple (thank goodness) but with fresh flowers and I don't want to pick them until tomorrow.

Also about the fires, they are far enough away to not be a danger - but close enough that we have smoke and the smell of fire in the air.

My daughter and I have been going back and forth about a cake. She is having a cookie bar and doesn't feel she needs a cake. The grooms mother and I feel she should have the tradition of cutting the cake. This might be a good solution, the problem is, she is a great little baker and cake decorator herself and doesn't think it's money well spent, but also knows she won't have time to do it herself.

Lanette - DH saw or heard somewhere the past couple of days that 'if' you drink your coffee 'black' for 20 days you won't want to add anything to it. I think I would have to slowly back off the sugar; but, I only put 1 teaspoon in a 12 ounce mug.

I started drinking my coffee black when I was a teenager ... and to me, it tastes really weird if someone accidentally adds sugar to it. And I actually feel slightly nauseated if someone gives me a coffee with milk.

Funny thing, sort of related to this ... in Australia, hardly anyone drinks their coffee black. Just about everyone fills their coffees with milk and sugar so that it's hardly coffee at all. My husband is Australian, and he does that too.

Over the past 3 months when he was in hospital, I hardly touched the long-life milk in the fridge, and didn't even look at the sugar. He's been home a week, and Thursday night, he told me that he needed more milk and sugar. What? I could have sworn there were at least 2 cartons of milk and some sugar. Then I remembered ... oh yeah, he puts milk and sugar into all his "coffees" and on his cereal (which I also rarely eat).

So I got milk and sugar.

But because those things are heavy to carry home (walking and on the bus), it prompted me to do something that I've been thinking of, but just hadn't bothered doing yet .... ordering groceries online to be delivered! They're supposed to arrive this afternoon, so we'll see if this idea will work. Hopefully!! It'll mean I don't have to go to a grocery store very often.

I have heard from others how much they enjoy the grocery delivery, no spur of the moment purchases and convenience. The people I have talked to about it say it has helped them with their budget and their waists. Great idea.

    Morning ladies~
I am up and having my tea.... working until 1 today.., and then have to come home and do some serious cleaning, even though its a smaller place it gets cluttered fast..having my friends over for lunch tomorrow and I am trying to figure out what to whip up...,the heat wave finally broke and its stunning this morning.... mid 50s , windows open ...

We went into a smaller place almost two years ago, I find it seems cluttered faster. Maybe because it's smaller, I find I have to tidy more often and put things where they go to avoid feeling overwhelmed.

Question for those of you who have groceries delivered. I always assumed that my groceries (mostly produce and frozen vegetables) would make delivery be more a hindrance than a help. I also have assumed (perhaps out of date?) that such a service was very expensive. Thoughts?

And just gotta say KJ you are so amazing!

    Greetings Ladies!

I have had a wonderful week with the hubs enjoying all his favorite foods before he heads out again. I did a wonderful job of eating, eating, eating to gain back the 6 lbs I needed to gain. I knew that part of it would be sodium from eating out once every day. What was the outcome? I "gained" 6 lbs in a week, the next day I was down 3 lbs, today I'm down another 1.6. So, net effect, I might hang on to just over a lb. I think my body is happy about 5 lbs below where I thought I would end up. The bigger takeaway, I had HEADACHES for days with all the crap I wasn't used to eating going into my body. I am back to eating my normal way to get my head back to normal.

We did find a fantastic Sunday brunch that had fabulous green chile dishes, grits, mac n cheese, chicken enchiladas and pork. They had other things too, but the green chile dishes were so good! We will definitely be going back for that one again.

    Have a great weekend!

Need to get caught up on commenting!
Karen in VA, how unfortunate for your grandson to have had such a miserable time at camp! Poor kid, my heart hurts for him. Nice that someone from that organization came in to deal with the issues, but still a very difficult thing for this young man to deal with, even without having had a miserable time at school this past year! Hopefully, he's resilient enough to bounce back from this, I'm sure that with the love of family and friends he will heal. Am I remembering correctly that he will be home schooled this coming year?
Katla, happy for you that both DH and pup enjoyed the camping and relative quiet that you found at the campground.
Dana, definitely rude of the grands to be calling you fat and mean! After all that you have done for them, places you have taken them..... Do they understand that you have had back surgery and could really do yourself serious injury if you were to have gotten into that body of water??? And kind of rude of your daughter to tell you to just relax! Hard to do when HER kids are doing their darndest to push you over the edge!
Heather, keeping my fingers crossed for you and the new house, it does look really cute and the floor plan looks good also. Excellent idea to re-purpose the living area for a workout area, the dining area does look large enough to be your main entertainment area. Finally got your book, it got here quickly enough, just had to get it ordered! I am enjoying it, your memory of your young childhood is quite remarkable!
Lisa, thinking about you and your new house too! Hoping all goes smoothly for you for the close and then the renos. Haven't checked out your new blog yet, too much going on, can't spend as much time on the computer!
The house really has a LOT of potential, nice for you to be able to put your own stamp on it for sure.
Allie, annoying when co-workers don't do their job, makes it difficult for everyone else. Yup, breathe and let it go!
Beverages of choice: Never did acquire a taste for coffee, unless there's lots of alcohol in it and for some reason my employers have always frowned on me doing that at work, go figure... Used to put sugar in my tea, simply because that's what mom and dad did. When I was in my teens, I decided to try to cut some calories, losing the sugar was fairly easy to do, tried switching to a sugar substitute, then realized that I liked the tea just fine without sugar so why add something that made it not taste so great. I have yet to try a sugar substitute that did not have an aftertaste, so I do avoid sugar free stuff, I'd rather just have the sugar when I'm having something sweet. I avoid sodas (or pop as we Canadians call it) most of the time, hubby likes them, I will sometimes have a mouthful of his which will satisfy me quite nicely. I do occasionally have one all to myself. Water, yup, plain, boring, unflavored water, is my beverage of choice!
Welcome to the newbies, hugs for those who need them and congrats to those celebrating!

    Hi all!
England won! :o:D Everyone very happy. DH will be watching the Russia /Croatia match tonight to see who we will be playing in the semi finals. So, on it goes. ..............
What with that and Wimbledon I am not best pleased because my TV schedules are all messed up. :# I am happy for those it makes happy though. :)

Nothing for me on tv for tonight. I might watch a film. Or just read. I'm saving the thriller that's on to accompany me on my recumbent bike tomorrow afternoon.

I'm rather dreading my trip to London on Monday to sit with my cancer friend. It is HOT and London is always hotter than anywhere else. The underground is unbearable. Will have to take plenty of water.
    Heat is not my friend.

:) I stopped drinking coffee in 2009 when I figured out that what I really liked about coffee was the fancy sweetened creamer that I put in it.

:)Carol, the picture of Sasha and mirror was taken in my friend's yard when I was watering for her. She had seen mirrors in lovely gardens she had visited and thought it added to the ambiance in the same way that mirrors do indoors. I don't have a mirror in my yard.

:) Today was an especially challenging line dance class to teach. There were three new students who had never done any line dance and part of my plan was to teach a dance that was at the high difficulty level for the class. I took my time teaching the new dance. Lots of people asked if we could dance it again and at the end of the class all three new students came to tell me how much fun they had and asked to me added to the weekly e mail I send with preview of the class.

:) I never click the button at the bottom of the food diary to tell me what I'd weigh in five weeks. It is not valuable to me. Also, I turned off all the automatic feeds to the home page. If I want my friends to know something about my day, I write a special message. So there are no automatic messages about my food diary, exercise, or how many days I've logged.

Speaking of sweet creamers Barbie, I had to tell you a story. My youngest son Owain must've been a junior in High School, and he was my coffee drinker. He put both sugar and creamer in it. The day I taught him how to make coffee was the best day ever. He would wake me up asking if I wanted coffee, ( cuz he wanted it)! I used to buy him a dreamer called Sweet Cream from Natural Bliss. Well once after only a couple of days he told me we were out of creamer. I'm like WHAT? I guess he learned a new way to make his coffee. It was half creamer, half coffee! Uck! I told him this isn't how you drink coffee. I told him his creamer days were over! It was back to a splash of milk like he first learned! Dang kids!

Michele that is true about paint here too. They still charge you when you buy the paint regardless if you use it all and let it dry out.

hope your surgery goes well and corrects the problem.

Me too Margaret! He informed me these operations are few times where afterwards he says the patients are happier! He said by September I should feel So much better. These are some symptoms of hiperparathyroidism: (from The Mayo clinic website)

    Hi,
Was out of the house at 6.10 today. Running through the beautiful lanes with the cool air on my bare arms, the low sun flashing through the deep green hedges and trees and blinding me, it was superb. I listened to the Soul Music pods, Strawberry Fair and Stabat Mater. Magic.
Saw two cats and one car.

England game at 3pm today. I will do something else. Don’t know if next door are having another party. Might do some writing archive sorting. It is still a heat wave here.

I roasted a whole butternut squash yesterday to have with chilli and have half left. We will have it in a quinoa salad for lunch, with chorizo. Yum.

I did most of my exercises after breakfast. Just wimped out on 70 calories. So I'm 830 calories to the good today and will eat back 600.

Been reading THE YEAR OF LESS, by Cait Flanders. About how she gave up buying most things for a year and hugely decluttered her life. Enjoyed it. Food for thought.

Much love to all, Heather UK xxxxxxx

Getting out and appreciating all that is around you! Yesterday I had a young male deer chill out in my back yard from about 10 am when I noticed him until about 4 when I ha gave him his snack. He's left this rose branch alone until it bloomed large, and promptly ate it, leaving me one petal! I'm not sore about it, watching him slumber was an honor.

I love the idea of living with less! There is a tiny house movement here in the states. So you gather 100 items you live from. This is every spoon to socks! When you take something new in, you have to get rid of one thing, for balance. I don't know if I could go that extreme, but I did go thru kitchen drawers and asked myself why do I have three spatulas?

:) The way I describe my line dance class is that it's the place they come to chat with their friends and we dance in between the conversations. Next week I'll teach the dance as though it were brand new. I haven't told them about the two restarts.

Lenora coconut oil is an excellent carrier for essential oil. They are strong so it is good to use a carrier oil. I bought a small guide book that tells me which oils are better for what I need. It is good to consult with your friend. One I do daily is I mix some lemon essential oil with my Epson salts and use it as a leg rub in the bath to help with leg cramps. I also love peppermint oil mixed into shea butter for my feet. An advantage to oilsl is they do not become antibiotic resistant. I used tea tree and eucalyptus when I had my sinus infection. I just opened the bottles and breathed in. Do not apply oil directly to your nose they are too strong.

I do not put sugar in my coffee. I just buy a high quality coffee. Last time at the farmers market I found a vendor who sold freshly roasted coffee beans. I grind them right before I brew. He told me to also get them slightly wet before brewing to get more flavor out of them. Lovely.

I also fortunately do not like sugar in my tea. I have learned to ask. Some places serve sweetened tea. My favorite place to order tea are Indian and Asian restaurants. They know how to make a good cup of tea. I have given up other places because they give you a pot of hopefully hot water and a tea bag. Waiters and waitress don't like it because they have to make special trip to get you more hot water.

If you want to ease yourself off sugar with tea adding cinnamon and orange peel sometimes helps. Cinnamon in coffee also is tasty.

Machka I had an Australian principal once and he said adding milk and sugar to tea they called it tipple you tea. Is that correct?

    Margaret

This is what I use! Dr. Bonners Peppermint soap. Multi purpose, wash your body, your teeth, douche with it, everything!! Haahaa!

<3 I am here and reading! First weekend with my new daycare child. He is seven and is playing with legos right now. We will head to the beach in a bit. Got up early, got my grocery shopping done and put away at home. I got a Mississippi Pot Roast going in the crock pot (using it as a pulled beef sandwich), baked a butternut squash and a couple of sweet potatoes (half for me, half for the baby's meals this week), threw together a spinach and artichoke lasagna for the in laws and have the cabbage chopped and ready for cole slaw to go with the pot roast sandwiches. All of this before my kiddo arrived at 7:30!

I bow before you, oh great human of extraordinary strength, a master of organisational skills, and all this done before I even woke up.......

Evelyn - So glad you have got my book. <3 I hope you find it interesting. If you do, please could you review it on Amazon. Thanks so much. :D

Did some language revision this evening. My Spanish house magazine, a couple of Duolingo exercises and some Swedish Utube videos. Better than nothing. The Russia match has gone into extra time.

Forgot to log the banana I had before my run this morning. Oops! That's taken me over, but I have my bonus calories as a buffer.
