Barbie ooh, so sorry, back pain is lousy, but moving gently is the way to go and keep icing. I've sometimes used a back wrap/support, I think the compression and warmth actually helps, you're right to not do anything sudden or extreme like weed pulling. I love the feeling of getting rid of old (and toxic) clutter. I'm tackling bits and pieces almost every day.
Rori those pics are stunning, glad DH is appreciating the clearer vision, and you all are having a good visit with DB.
Lisa every pound lost will help you heal quicker, this is a very awesome motivation, you've got this.
DH and I are booking hotels for our big adventure in 3 weeks, it's getting real , I'm hitting the gym every day to keep up my fitness level so i can handle the plane and all the walking/touring we are expecting to do. Still plenty to tackle on my project list, today I paint outdoor handrails. But first, off for a long walk with bff.

Good morning Ladies -
Lisa - Best of luck today at closing!
Barbie - Prayers continue for Jake. I hope your back feels better soon!
If it is OK to say, I had a great time when I went to my friends hometown for the funeral of his mother. I flew in and used Uber to get to the hotel, no car rental, yeah!! I was just getting ready to request an Uber to the visitation when my friends in laws got to the hotel and drove me. They also drove me to the funeral service. I had several people notice my weight loss and complement me. I told my husband when I talked to him that if I was needing an ego boost, that was the place to be. The service was mostly upbeat and a nice send off to a great lady. I had to laugh, they had put up photos of her throughout her life. Her grandson (my friends grown son) pulled me over to one of the photo boards and said look, you made the board! After the luncheon at her favorite restaurant, I went to her apt with her daughter, my friend and his wife and we packed for a few hours. It is a very small apt and you couldn't tell we made any progress. We went back to the daughters house and visited for a while before they dropped me at my hotel late in the evening. While the occasion to be there was a sad one, it was nice to get to see and visit with everyone.
I had an interesting conversation with my friend while I was there. We were discussing my weight (not in a bad way) after he called me skinny. I told him that that sounded weird, that my name and skinny didn't go together. I told him that my mind didn't compute that I had lost weight. In my mind, I'm still obese. He said, oh no, we can't go there. I told him no, I didn't mean I still think I need to lose weight. I can see the weight loss when I look in the mirror, my mind just still thinks obese first.
I weighed on Wednesday morning after I got back Tuesday evening and I was up 12 lbs, yes, twelve, to the very top of my maintenance range. We know that I didn't gain 12 lbs of fat, so I didn't panic. I had been actively trying to gain since I had weighed in last Friday at an all time low, too, too low. When I weighed yesterday, I was down 4 lbs. When I weighed this morning, down another 2.4. I'm going to guess the water is off now and I might stabilize about here, which is a bit under my maintenance range, but not scary low and in an underweight BMI.
Welcome to the new ladies, high fives to those with accomplishments and hugs to those that need them.
Okie in the TX Hill Country - who needs to mow the big yard but it still has debris and equipment spread all over it from the landscape guys who haven't finished the job yet. If they don't come finish today, I will pick up what I can tonight and mow tomorrow.6 -

Edie at her show. She is the one in the middle with bear's ears.
Afterwards they each let loose a white dove to symbolise flying away to big school. Plus a party. And a graduation certificate.
Don't remember all that fuss in my day!!!!!!

Our neighbors came over to thank us for helping yesterday. We agreed to share important numbers, so if there is an emergency we will have them. It is so great to have wonderful neighbors on that side of our house again. It has gone through a series of owners that really depreciated the value of the home. Now it is looking good.
Rori gorgeous!
Cathy thanks for the recap. It that kind of input that is keeping me on track. Part of the importance of fat in our diets is for Vitamins that are fat soluble. Without the fat our bodies cannot make use of the vitamins. That to me is the irony of adding Vit D to skim milk. The Vit D is not as available to our bodies because the fat is taken out of the milk. My DH teases me about eating avocados because of their high fat content. He is an example of how well that anti fat campaign worked. It is still ingrained in our culture.
I am currently reading Formerly Known As Food. It goes into the history of why and how processed food is so widely accepted. She too talks about how the low fat diet was such a disaster. She talks about how the food companies make it so you identify being an American with their products. She talks about going into clients homes and they think they are eating well when they have organic chips, crackers, cookies, mac and cheese. Her attitude is it is just a more expensive version of food that does not nourish you. It is one of the more depressing books I have read on the subject of food because it really shows how profit has come at the expense of our health. There are voices speaking out. They are hard to hear amongst the misinformation and media blitz. It is sad when children tease a child for bringing a healthy lunch to school because it doesn't contain brand name chips and fruit juice.
Another example a friend of mine who has a extensive vegetable garden brought a wonderful salad with all her fresh veggies in it to a church dinner to help families who are homeless. They rejected her salad for more familiar foods that are processed. I hear that and think canary in the coal mine.
My own personal struggle is both our sons are caught in the processed food mill. I did tell one of them the one thing I wish I could go back when you were growing up was to teach you how to eat more nourishing food. Now it is up to them to make the change when they are ready.

The best source of naturally occurring Vitamin D is ... sunshine!

Karen When I looked it up they said salmon, herring, cod liver oil, egg yolks, mushrooms. There are fortified foods, but as I mentioned if you choose them make sure you add some fat. Probably true for mushrooms too. I like to cook mine in butter or coconut oil. Still best to get some sunshine if possible.( In agreement with M in Oz ). I know if you take a supplement D3 is best. I guess you can actually sometimes get too much. As a culture we are more on the deficient side. Especially living up here in the North we get even less of the kind of light you need to get your needed Vit D especially in the winter. I know you can have your levels tested. Some on here mentioned that. They also mentioned they had to pay for the test which does not seem right to me.
Allie think does this food nourish me and help me feel strong. If not find foods that do. The irony is it is easy to overeat on the foods that don't nourish because you keep eating them trying to satisfy your body. They cannot do that. It is much more difficult to over do on nourishing food because they will satisfy. Again come down to want it/ need it. You decide what is going to help you more in the long run.

Greetings. I'm still here...I guess...sort of? I am just really frustrated that time just flies by and I get nothing done. I'm beginning to feel a little worthless.
I've looked at all your great photos and have loved them! Thank you everyone for sharing!
For $300 I learned that you should NOT put LED light bulbs in a ceiling fan light if they are on a dimmer, or if the ceiling fan was made for a dimmer. Blew one out and had to have it rebuilt for heaven's sake. There are special LEDs for that but they are specifically marked DIMMER light. I guess I'm less DUMBER now
OK all take care. Meg from Omaha8 -
Margaret - it was likely me who mentioned testing for Vitamin D3 levels. From my prior experience (10 - 15 yrs ago) insurance didn't want to pay for the test which was several hundred dollars unless a person had suspicion of low levels due to corticosteroids (being on prednisone for long periods of time for example) or a diagnosis of osteopenia.
Sadly, by that time it is too late in my opinion. Our new doc who doesn't take insurance can get the test done for $40 which I gladly pay out of my own pocket every couple years. Even at supplementing at 5000 IU/day I am in the lower end of adequate. I didn't go out in the sun for years due to being on tetracycline for rosacea.
To me, this Vitamin D3 test should be covered as preventative care like mammograms and colon cancer screenings. I consider it even higher priority since there's been research indicating it aids in cancer prevention.
I see Vitamin D3 is added to the whole organic milk I buy. D2 is added to the Hemp Milk we use.
Cathy - thank you for the link to the first episode of "The Real Skinny on Fat". I watched most of the 2nd episode - fast forwarded through parts of it, I cannot sit still for 2 hours (hurts my back). I thought it was good and worth the time. I liked the information that a person doesn't have to fast all the time to retune the body into burning fat... I think Mosley's idea of low carb a couple days a week then Mediterranean the other days has a lot of merit.
Lisa - before I forget... I know you are in the middle of walk through and closing today - congrats! When you get a chance, I'd like your opinion on that little exercise peddler you got when you lived out east. Do you still use it? And even if you don't, would you recommend it? I don't have room for a recumbent bike but would like to have something easy to story that might also boost my cardio a little. Did it do that for you? Thanks in advance. Good for you on your weight loss journey and knee replacement. A good goal!
OK I am out of here for most of the day. Allergy shots, errands, shopping, lunch with good friend. Catch you later!

Margaret I looked Vit D up, too. Looks like wild-caught fatty fish, egg yolks from pastured eggs, & some organ meats, butter from pastured cows. It's not really easy to get enough Vit D without sunshine or supplements/fortified foods, is it?

I'm not Lisa, but several years ago when I weighed around 280# and both knees were bone on bone, doc would not do replacement cuz of my weight. I couldn't walk because of my knees, catch 22. My doctor recommended the little pedaler. I still use it, I ordered a second nicer one with tension adjustment, etc. You get the same amount of work out, cardio and calorie burn as a regular recumbent bike. I will be using mine in a bit after kettlebell workout. We will be reaching 109° here today making it way too hot to use my treadmill in our garage. They are inexpensive and well worth it. I researched online before purchasing the second one.
Hope this was of some help.

Hey all! Just jumping on really fast. I have been following Rita's (Kevrit) RV journeys on facebook. They are currently at Cathedral Gorge State Park (Nevada, I think). Anyway, their RV park experienced a flash flood yesterday. Water and currents were fast and looked to be at least two feet high where they were. They are fine, just literally, stuck in the mud. They are without power/internet and waiting for the road/emergency crews to come and clear the mud so that they can leave.
Her facebook page is Two Bounding in the Cuckoo's nest. She is updating when she has service.
Hugs to all! KJ8 -
Rita: Your canyon pics are gorgeous. Unfortunately, I look at them and think, where are the snakes hiding? I'm a really paranoid woman when it comes to snakes. :ohwell:
NYKaren: Glad you like the Mark Twain quotation.
Margaret: I'm glad your DH knew how to get though a locked door. He saved the day for the poor child who was locked inside the house alone.
Lanette: We have composite decking. It doesn't warp, doesn't rot and doesn't need to be painted. DH thinks the brand is trex. As Karen said, it appears to be a mix of sawdust and recycled plastic. It has been out in the weather for four or five years and is going strong. I just power washed it the other day and it is good to go for a year or two. We had ours screwed down, not nailed down. I would recommend that installation. :flowerforyou: I'll look for the Real Skinny on Fat. DH also has MS and treats it with a pill. Not cheap, but effective at slowing the progression of the disease. Sometimes it seems to halt the progression of the symptoms, and other times it seems to slow them. He would be worse off without the meds.
Sue in WA: Sending good thoughts for your sister. I hope she is able to come to the wedding.
Becca: I am so glad you home and doing well.
Barbie: Prayers for Jake's health. I hope you and Jake get good neighbors on both sides!
Rori: I love the photos of the canyon and the jewelry.
(((Meg:))) No name calling. You are not dumb, but you are in a situation that is challenging. :flowerforyou:
I plan to go to yoga today. DH wants to take the RV to our storage unit and work on tracing the electrical problems in the bedroom. We're also going to fix the last bedroom curtain. Busy and pleasant work.

Up and soldiering onward! Still feeling off, and have some numbing in my hands, feet and around my lips, but that is my calcium levels trying to sort themselves out! I am taking calcium four times a day, so I should right myself.
Taking pictures of my scar and just trying to feel better here.👍
Hugs to y'all!!💗,

Carol - I just love rhinestones What a great find.
Rita - I hope you're OK.
Just preparing to leave. I fetched fish and chips for all of us for children's dinner, including the nanny, as my son and DDIL are going out this evening. Delicious!
They all loved the reindeer meat I brought back from Sweden. My son declined to open the fermented herring this time so I will keep it a bit longer.
Very, very tired. DH has so much stamina. He is still reading them stories.
Shan't see much of them in August as they have two holidays booked. They are trying to let their house out through Airbnb to earn some money. The company came to take photos yesterday. It's a lot of work, but could be worth it.
Much love to you all from Heather UK XXXXXX4 -

My doctor believes that we are all deficient and includes it in her yearly blood work. My daughter and I are both deficient year after year. She has now suggested I continue with vitamins year round.

Sue in WA - I feel so sorry for your sister, besides the physical pain the emotional pain at missing a child's wedding might be even worse.
Barbie - Junk gathers so fast doesn't it? My husband works for the city and is forever bringing home something they are going to throw out because "I'm going to do something with that". Yet there it sits cluttering things up!
Michele - I had Corelle most of my married life, a few different sets over the years and for some unknown reason about 5 years ago I bought stoneware. I really need to switch it all out again. I much prefer the Corelle. Maybe I'll put that on my Christmas Wish List.
Rori - Beautiful Pictures
Lisa - Hope you have a smooth closing!
Okie - I understand what you mean about travelling for a funeral and it ending up being a "good time". I have had to travel "home" for funerals and it ends up becoming a little vacation and catch up with everyone. I think that's just what happens when people are spread out everywhere.
Heather - Cute bear you have there. They sure go all out for the end of kindergarten now don't they?
Margaret - Good neighbours are so hard to come by, its great you helped them yesterday.
Allie - I was struggling all of June with "bad food" choices. I finally got sick of the scale not moving and have taken control again. I had to get my stubborn on.
Meg - I wouldn't have known that about LED bulbs either, sorry it was such an expensive lesson for you.
Rebecca - Hope you are feeling a little better, you still have a beautiful smile!
I took my Grands to the big parade of the year this morning. I ended up, quite by chance, meeting up with their Mother's best friend and her whole family. My Grands call her Auntie and she has a 2 year old as well. This is a picture of the three kids watching the parade, the two excited ones are my Grandchildren, Jonah 6 and Michaela 2. Her 2 year old, Charlotte, was not interested in the parade at all as the pictures clearly show.

Yeah, Daddy used to say, 'nothing brings out the worst in people than a good old funeral where there might be family money - especially if there is no Will'. In a small town and being one of the older more experience attorneys he had a wide swath of clients. I can remember little old black ladies who could not walk up the stairs to his office having Wills made (and deeds to property they had been sharecropping and had been 'given') and standing by their car and witnesses several of them. Occasionally, I would have to 'prove' that I had witnessed the Will being signed because if they could not read, they signed it with a 'distinctive' "X" as their signature. I could always tell Daddy where around the courthouse square they had parked, who was with them, and describe the "X".
