Michelle from NC, I have read that the Keto diet gives you clarity of mind. This is important to me because my Mother is suffering from Alzheimers and Dementia. It's a horrible disease and I read that the Keto Diet was good to help warn away from those diseases. Please I feel that my 1st month of counting calorie I lost a lot of water weigh. An that the 2nd month when I started Keto Diet it was actual Fat loss.

For 30 years, I felt like I was in my early 20s (and was 30 years ago).
    4 months + 1 day ago, I suddenly *became* 51 years old.

No, not my birthday ... my husband's accident.
Ever since my husband's accident I've felt all of my 51 years if not many more.

Just feeling really worn out these days.

(((HUGS))) I am so sorry for the load you have had to carry for the months since your DH's health crisis began. It is no wonder that you are feeling suddenly old. Baby yourself as much as the situation allows. I hope that you will be able to regain some of the pleasurable things that you have enjoyed in your life.

Pfaugh. Liberte organic whole milk yoghurt, 220 calories, 22 grams sugar for only 5 g protein, might as well be Ben & Jerry's. It WAS tasty tho' ;)

    KJ pics, we want pics!
Karen in VA any new Olivia pics? Maybe that will spark KJ's daughter to send Joaquin pics sooner.
Heather 25,000 pounds for a beach hut??? It looks a very cutely decorated storage shed. Does that money give title to the land beneath and immediately in front of the shed, or is it a lease, or ???
    Vicki
hoping your daughter quickly comes to her senses. You are so right that dragging her out wouldn't help, but I can sure understand the desire.
Michele Jess' grades are a great indication she's where she needs to be now. Tough on you but best in the long run. When do you go visit?
Thanks Rye for asking about and CJ for answering. Was wondering what Machka thought was To Die For on TV ;)
CJ ditto loved Rosemeary and Thyme. Wish they'd bring it back, they just stopped it, no closure. Pony and puppy prayers for your DGD and (((hugs))) for you.
Machka just to see your husband standing up and smiling by the lake brings a catch to my throat. It's been a long time coming and there's still a long journey ahead, but when he was in coma I couldn't have imagined that picture. Thanks for sharing it. As for feeling every one of your 51 years since your husband's accident, small wonder! Work, school, hospital, shouldering his share of the household burdens, I'd feel 100+. Now that he's home and has some in home help, is there something restorative you could do for yourself?
Barbie brava for the good self-care, but sorry you had to leave the dance festival early.
Katla "Front leakers" LOL but also :noway:

Driving: got my permit the day I turned 15-1/2, and my license the day I turned 16. Was somewhat stunned I passed. Parallel parking, while not a favorite, is not a problem. Learned on manual transmissions, a 3 speed Oldsmobile and a 4 speed VW bug. Many hilarious stories in that VW. Favorite gear is reverse. Love to drive, especially long distances, find it meditative. DVT taught me to stop every hour or two, get out of the car and walk briskly for 10 minutes. That having been said, I'll confess I'm not the greatest driver. Sometimes get distracted by chat and have trouble maintaining my lane :(

And yep all you gals who advise getting the exercise done first thing in the morning are right. Too sleepy now to get down on the floor. Foo.

    Sleep sweet, lovelies!

Machka, you have had to grow strong all of a sudden, with all the decisions and responsibility. Hopefully you will regain that carefree, youthful feeling again one day. I was so happy to see the pictures you posted of your husband. It was touch and go for so long and with no prognosis or time period for recovery...Slowly, slowly healing happens and now he is at home and riding an exercise bicycle and going for walks with you. Hey, he knows who you are, and that isn't something you can take for granted anymore either. I know it might seem like a long road ahead, but glance back, and you can see the enormous hill you have already climbed. You will need to make sure you pamper yourself regularly, so that your mind can relax and your body can stay healthy.

There was a time in my life that I thought I would never feel happiness again, that nothing would ever be right again and that I would be better off dead. I didn't want to wake up and face another day. But I made it through that dark time, and into better times and yes I feel happiness and life is good again. Take care of yourself sister, because no one else will do it. Sometimes you have to be your own best friend. <3 Wendy

:)Allie, one more thought about your new healthy habits---I lay out my morning dog walking clothes before I go to bed so it's easy to get dressed and out the door without having to think. Also I eat exactly the same breakfast so I don't have to think about that, either.

Celebrating 2 months on my high fiber diet! I looked up the Keto diet that is not what I am doing. I do try to eat healthy fats like avocado, grass fed butter, and coconut oil but not to the degree that is part of a Keto diet. I also eat more fruit than they allow and some of the vegetables that are not on their list. I have also cut out as much processed foods that add sugars and refined grains as I can. That is part of the Keto diet.

Thanks for your help in keeping me on track!

The most recent book I am reading is called the 10% Human. The author stance is on how important our microbiology is to our health. Again there is a lot of history about bacteria is terms of illness and how it has effected our health and our relationship to bacteria. What I took from the book is recognize there are certain bacteria is essential to our health too. She contends that many of our many modern day chronic illnesses are related to our microbiology. When the unhealthy bacteria take over or when our bodies overreact because it is having trouble figuring out friend from foe the result is many of our modern day chronic illnesses.

Perhaps I liked the book because it reinforced the idea that a diet high in fiber is what feds the microbs that help to keep you healthy. Cooking some vegetables actually makes it easier for the microbs to do their job. When you puree foods like turning them into smoothies it actually lowers the fiber content. If you enjoy smoothies they still have their health benefits but it will lower the fiber content.

She went on to say it is amazing how quickly your microbs will change to accommodate your diet. She believes this is why human are so adaptable to the foods they eat, and it helped us survive as a species.

Heather it is a beautiful piece of furniture, but I can also see how impractical it is too. Good luck it finding it a new home!

Machka oh the frustration of dealing with health care system and resulting paperwork. I have been there with myself, DH, DS. The bottom line is being the advocate for DH. You are right they do not talk to each other, so it is frustrating you have to update each team as they come in. I found some in the system are better than others. I celebrate those. The others I remind myself to BREATHE and then try to do something for myself no matter how small.

Yesterday high 112 degrees. Right Now it is 94 degrees and it isn’t even 9:00 am. I’ve experienced a couple weeks above 100 and many summers with a day or two above 105 in my 15 years in Texas but never anything like this past week where the high exceeded 110 three times and always exceeded 105.

Rye - whew, that's HOT, especially when it doesn't cool down much at night. B) It was 50 at our house this morning and if I could bottle it up and send it to you and Okie and Cheri and the rest of you gals sizzling in the south, I surely would. <3 That reminds me, I need to call the guy about the teleporter, lol.

My nephew had a detached retina when a toddler so is pretty much blind in one eye as well. He does drive - and in the Seattle traffic no less altho he rear-ended someone earlier this year. He must have radar or something. I think it's a great idea for you to have the learner's permit and be able to share long drives with your DH.

I learned to drive on stick shift - on the floor and column. Our driving teacher (high school football coach) specialized in having his students parallel park. I can't believe the "boats" I used to park - but I think the parking spaces were much larger then.

Barbie - sorry your back is still giving you grief. :( Are you able to use your recumbent bike at all? I am still thinking of getting one of the exercise peddlers Janetr uses, like Meg and Vicki are thinking of getting. But due to permanent lower back damage (herniated disc that flares up now and then) I am hesitant. Lord knows I have enough different chairs to sit in around here tho, lol.

Machka - you are on my mind all the time. When my DH was going through so much and different doctors who didn't bother reading what the other ones were doing, I see in retrospect I should have kept better notes and briefed everyone. That is very time consuming and you are working and going to school so cannot be there all of the time so my heart goes out to you. It's quite maddening to have the helpers keep tripping up on the showering. Good gravy!!!

, I always enjoy hearing about your success. Like Heather, I am on a similar track. The Keto episode on The Skinny on Fat was so interesting, but I am not 100% sold on the fact that we need to eat like our "ancestors on the savannah" did millions of years ago. To my way of thinking, humans also adapted diet wise to be able to eat legumes, some dairy, etc., depending on which continent they ended up on and thrived for several thousand years. Humans that evolved in the northern climates had to rely on beans and concentrated starches but still had some feast or famine. And they were quite healthy, likely due to all of the exercise they got on a daily basis.

I am also curious about our ancestors on the savannah... were they cooking the meats and veggies they ate? Or was everything chomped down RAW when they were on the run? Probably the closest analogy we have right now are primitive tribes that still exist in New Guinea and South American if McDonald's hasn't arrived yet. And they of course have fire to cook meat and veggies.

Nonetheless, I think intermittent fasting is a great idea along the lines of the 5:2 and 16:8 (or better). And of course cutting out added sugar and simple starches, processed foods, etc. Clean eating with lots of fiber.

That's it for now. Keep cool ladies!

I learned to drive at 19 from my parents driving to and from jr college in the car I bought with funds saved from working 70+ hours a week as a lifeguard for $1.25 per hour. I had no desire to drive in high school. Luckily friends had cars and would give me rides. The driving test may have been the last time I paralleled parked. My dad taught me to drive a standard 5 years later during my lunch hour after picking up my new car - 1976 Toyota Celica. I had wanted a Datsun 240Z, but my dad refused to even look at them because the price was more than they had paid for their first house. My dad was my mechanic and he and my mom were moving to East Texas. He advised me to get a new car before they moved.

:)On the subject of what to eat, "the best food plan is the one you'll stick to". I started by logging everything I ate even if I went way over calories. I examined the food diary every day and looked for foods that I liked that had higher volume with lower calories. I noticed what foods had good nutrition. I used all that information to continue to revise my eating plan. In order to allow myself more time to be active, I sought foods that were easier to prepare so I spend less time in the kitchen. I aimed for the discipline to record my day's food in the food diary in the morning and then eat only what I had logged. It helped to be able to say to a well meaning friend who was offering me a treat, "No thank you, that's not on my food plan for today." I stayed out of restaurants for awhile until I had a better handle on what foods worked for me.

:) My back is still not completely healed from whatever I did to it on Monday lifting Bessie. Walking and dancing have been OK, but today when I went to the lavender farm to be part of the folk dancing group, I found out quickly that dancing on grass was not good for my back, so after two dances, I told the leader that dancing on the grass wasn't good for my back and I left, came home, and sat with the ice pack. I have also forced myself to stay off the exercise bike this afternoon.

:)Katla, I'm so glad to hear how well all your experiences with the RV have been for you and your husband.

:) Barbie from very warm NW Washington

That is what I do too. I am not a big "diet" person and know I would not stick to it. I just make sure I log everything I eat and have realized very quickly that more nutritious my food the more I get to eat.

    Happy Monday!

I am on page 50.....Decided my house needed some Deep Cleaning Saturday. Took a 3 hour nap after I got home from work. When I woke up the sun was shining on the dust. My husband has all kinds of statues. I pulled them off the shelves in the entry way and living room and washed them all. Moved the furniture around a bit in the living room after vacuuming and shampooing the carpets under the pieces. Wiped down the recliner and both couches. Washed the windows on the inside (still raining so not doing outside yet). Washed and rehung the curtains. Cleaned out the little kid books and toys from the chest and put in the smaller more grown up games. Organized the floor of the coat closet. That was started Saturday night then worked on it until 2 yesterday. Then decided to work on my grandfather clock......I now know how to take it apart to the mechanism box! I oiled it. Put it back together. It made LOTS of Music (like kept on and on and on playing) now won't play again.:( It is keeping time but won't chime at all. Reckon I will need to add a clock person to my fix list. The living room and entry way look and feel amazing! Only 5 more rooms to go plus 2 bathrooms and a hallway. Once upon a time I would do this in the fall when the husband was gone hunting, but it had been a few years since it got more than the obligatory dust, vacuum, and shampoo. I am proud of what I did get done though. The living room just feels more comfortable arranged this way too.

I have to go to gyn this morning before work for yearly, so probably should look up my portal and update things, ugh.

Prayers to all! For strength, healing, and peace. (((HUGS)))

    Rebecca- You look great!

Lisa- Congratulations on the house! I know you will be happy to get it done and be able to call it home.

I know there is more, but need to go get ready. Love the pictures.

Just thought I would share. Lots of oak and wood in our home.

    Have a great day!

I need to do one of those deep cleans too, I always feel so much better once it's done. I did clean the toy boxes out this weekend and managed to get rid of almost a garbage bag of broken and happy meal toys!

    I’m back from Florida!

It was a long 12 days watching the two DGKs in Florida. At this point I don’t know about “darling”! LOL a total of 5 weeks!

I’m so glad to be back home and getting back to my normal life. I gained 1/2 lb while I was gone which isn’t bad considering fast food while I was in the road. I started dieting this morning! Yeah!

It’s going to take time to read 365 new posts!!

    Love to all!

So I hear racket on top of the sun rooms window ceiling, thinking it must be the owner that snuck to the backyard to clean them. But nope! It was Mr. Bright Eyes! I don't know if he just flew and miscalculated his landing, or if he just didn't realize the slope of the ceiling windows. He's huge! For those that don't know, he's an owl that fell out of his best during May. He slid down the window, spreading his wings so I could check him out, then perched on the gutter. The next thing he was gone. Fun!

Called the surgeon's office, because my husband is worried about my numbness and tiredness. The nurse said its all normal, relax already!

This is a lean week. Buying medicines, and some weeks of buying more than $80 in groceries has resulted in $10 in account. I might have son come with me this Friday and help me out. The fact that I'm cooking larger meals on the weekends because he is home is putting more a a debt in our checking account. He splurges on us, like one weekend he ordered a movie (on his Netflix account), so we watched a movie on his side of the house!👍💟 He also buys takeout and asks if we wish anything, which he pays for. Our arrangement is not without some stressed though. We have to problem letting him borrow the car for errands, but when he is shorting his transit time and needs it, we are hesitant. His scooter repair guy wimped out on him, not finishing what he said he would do. The guy that is working on his Japanese truck, well he's had it since Oct 2016! He has a bike and his commute is about 5 miles one way. So its a great way for him to keep fit and pass his PTs! When the weather gets worse, it won't be though. The fact that he's riding home at 3am won't be good. Other than that we get along so great!
