Well its been a little bit. I went camping last weekend and have been exhausted all week trying to catch up on sleep. I was going to take a rest day off on Monday after getting back but had to go to work for a meeting. Saturdays I can't sleep in since we go to Aquafit at 8 AM and then to a double birthday brunch for my grand niece and nephew. The good news is I didn't gain on the camping trip and this week kept up my loss. Tomorrow I hope to sleep in.
We have been talking to my son who is sending us on a Caribbean Cruise. He said he would book it this weekend. When he graduated from Law school with a job lined up he asked me what I would really like. I told him. So he and his wife went on a cruise this spring for their birthday and so after that he told me he wanted to send me. I really don't have a bucket list. I just try to do those things I want to as I can but didn't think this was something I could do so far. So it really would be the only thing on my bucket list if I had one. We will be departing through Galveston so we will get to see their new house too. They moved to Houston .
I have had a hard time getting on here during the week. It has been busy at work. Glad I like it so much. Happy weekend everyone.

CJ: I have a bad knee and always sit the trot these days. My backside has gotten used to the pounding, and the horse doesn't seem to mind. I originally injured this knee during a riding lesson several years ago. I was too heavy for my knee, and put too much pressure on it for too long. Now I live with it. The good new is that it prompted me to lose weight, and hasn't kept me from riding. MFP is the reason is succeeded at losing the weight. The women in this group are amazing. I love this site!
Ginger: I am so happy that you are feeling hopeful. :flowerforyou:
Becca: I love the idea of cutting a roast in half and cooking it in two pans in order to get more great veggies. WTG!!!
Michele: Congrats to your daughter, Jess, for her excellent grades.
Teresa: Welcome to a great group. I am so sorry for the loss of your boyfriend. Such a tragedy.
We spent the day putting curtains in our motorhome, and still have one to go. Hopefully we'll get it done tomorrow. I want to take the motorhome to the storage unit and tuck it away. We've had it in the parking lot here for several days, and others need access to the space.

I watched it occasionally in Canada, but all the time here in Australia now.
They run it on Thursday nights here in Australia.
7:30 - Father Brown
8:30 - Murdock Mysteries ... and they usually run three episodes in a row.
Nice way to end a Thursday.

But these days I'm glued to the TV from 8:30 or 9:30 onward ... when the TDF comes on.

Michelle Jess sounds like a star. Kudos for you influence. The dragonfly is adorable.
Katla the upside to only doing a sitting trot is that it might pound away the pounds on my backside!
[Sue/b] how was the wedding?
Cheri Love, love, love British mysteries. One of my favorite series was Rosemary and Thyme about 2 ladies who had a landscaping business and always stumbled into a murder on the property they were fixing. The gardens and scenery were gorgeous and the gardening tips were great. Cute show and terrific chemistry between the actors. I am just starting to watch Hetty Wainthrop Investigates which stars Patricia Routledge, better known in the US as Hyacynth Bucket of Keeping Up Appearances. It is a much darker mystery series, set in working class Northwest England and her home would never be the venue for teas or candlelight suppers.
Now the reason I am writing in the middle of the night. I got a call earlier to come to the hospital. It took hours to drive here because of the horrible weather. She is sleeping now. But ((((hugs)))). Puppy dogs, kittens and rainbows and ponies, please.

Hate this version on ipad, why change things 'if it ain't broke.....'

CJ - Big hugs for you and your granddaughter. :flowerforyou:
WELCOME to the new people! What struggles and tragedies so many of us go through! That's why we need each other.
Kim - I know I could do it, but I am conflicted as to whether I want to.
I was awake for over two hours in the night. Grrrrrrrrrr! I went in the other room and read. Eventually I got back to sleep around 5.20. Woke up at 6.40 and decided to go for a run. Heard DH flushing the loo, so I poked my head around the door and asked him if he wanted to walk with me. So we did our "long walk" around the lanes with me trotting along and him walking fast.
After breakfast we got on our exercise machines. I missed off 100 calories on the elliptical, but I've still chocked up 800.
Feels good.
Tonight using up the cold duck legs I cooked after the garage freezer broke down. With brown rice, garbanzos, sweet potato and green beans. As a salad with garlic and scallions. Lemon juice.
Chilled AF white wine.
Machka - We often watch the one hour summary of the Tour de France that's on at 7 pm over here. I like seeing areas we've visited. Difficult for Sky having two contenders this year.
Might tackle another writing box today. I'm glad we had that discussion yesterday about furniture placement. Please keep all fingers and toes crossed for us. The vendor doesn't want to move until September because of a mortgage redemption clause. We would want to go as soon as possible.
Love you all, Heather UK xxxxxxx

CJ - all the good wishes possible coming your way. Hoping for the best.
Michele - yep, I spent dang near $300 on doorknobs and deadbolts, yesterday, all Kwiksets, and I should be able to key them all identically myself... or let my husband figure it out how to do it, which is more likely. There are three deadbolted outside doors and two keyed doorknob outside doors.
For the new ones who are just coming in, welcome! Just please don't be offended when I don't accept friend requests here on MFP. This thread is pretty much the limit of my interaction, and I'm pretty active here. I appreciate the thought.
My DH and our son did SO much work outside yesterday, completely cleared around the house, and got all the branches that were impinging on the roof cut down, as well. I worked completely in the kitchen, and nowhere else, and still more to go. You can keep up with the progress on my blog at eggshome dot com, if you're interested in a full-house rehab. Not receiving any kind of income from the site, just documenting our progress there.
My sis called last night, and she and my two nieces may try to visit next weekend and pitch in. It may be the last full weekend I'll be home until late August, and she's really excited to help, which is lovely. She painted and remodeled houses for a living until she fell off a ladder and injured a disc in her spine a couple years back, and has terrific taste, so her advice will be welcome.
Need to get my current post written and slide up to Wally-World and get oven cleaner, spider-eviction spray, and a few other things for today's labors. Kinda glad to be working on Monday, I need the rest!
Love y'all,
Lisa in Arkansas4 -
Lisa - is it worth cleaning if you are going to be remodelling? I know you've got the urge, but you are only going to be making more mess.
Here is a little article in the Sunday Times about Brighton and Hove. Just a frivolous thing, but gives a bit of a flavour. I spent some of this morning looking for various dance classes.

Much love, Heather UK xxxxxxx2 -
Heather - It would make sense, yes, but there are more than a few things that have to be cleaned enough to be able to assess the damage and decide whether fixes and repairs are possible, or if replacement will be necessary. The body of most of the kitchen cabinets are in great shape (the under-sink being the exception) and they were seriously expensive, well-thought-out cabinets originally. Well worth cleaning, stripping the doors, refinishing and keeping them. The kitchen countertop will be a year two replacement.
The sheer neglect of some of these spaces was just criminal. And so many signs that someone really loved this place, once upon a time. But first, we have to figure out what we can save. Our son really wants to assist, so we're getting enough things in order so he can actually camp out at the house. Love him, but figure that might last two weeks, and then he'll be ready to go back to the city where he has a social life, friends and easy bus/taxi access to downtown, restaurants, etc. Could be wrong in my assessment of his attention span, but it would be nice to have someone there during the week, while we can't get there.
My sis is also talking about coming over next weekend. Would love to have her advice on some of the things we're doing, as she painted and rehabbed houses for quite a while before falling off a ladder and damaging a disc in her spine. We'll see how it all goes. Trying to live in the moment (unsuccessfully), and just take things as they come for a while.

Yes, to me that makes it more interesting. No one is riding away with the victory. We're a week away from the finish and still have no idea who will win.

My husband and I drove (I drove!) to a neighbouring town where we went for a 2 km walk with a stop for ice cream.
Then, after we were home for a little while, we both rode our trainers! My husband got on his for about 20 minutes and covered 5 km according to his computer.
I did Zwift again ... a Volcano route:
Distance: 20.48km
Elevation: 83m
Moving Time: 50:34
Elapsed Time 50:50
........................ Avg ............. Max
Speed ............. 24.3km/h ........ 41.8km/h
Heart Rate ...... 116bpm .......... 130bpm
Cadence ......... 74 .................. 87
Power ............ 80W ............... 101W

Regarding driving ...
I got my learners at 15 and full licence at 17 ... and I drove a lot for quite a few years, but then my driving became less and less, until, in 1999, I became "car-free".
I was "car-free" for the next 6 years, and that was great!! So nice not to have a motor vehicle to worry about.
But then my life circumstances changed, and all of a sudden I was driving up to 1000 km/week!! And I did a lot of driving for a few years.
Then in 2010, we moved into the town where I worked, and I stopped driving again.
Since 2010, I might have driven 10 times ... I don't know. Possibly once, or occasionally twice, a year. And before last weekend, I had not driven in well over a year.
Because of this accident, my husband can't drive and that was OK while he was in hospital, and even when he first returned home, but there are situations coming up where, unfortunately, driving may be required. And unfortunately taxis are expensive. So I've started driving again. I've driven 3 times ... once last weekend and twice this weekend.
I might need to go out one evening this coming week to get a little night driving practice in. Blech.

Good morning all! Happy Sunday! DD and Joaquin flew home yesterday. Her flight was delayed by three hours, so that gave us a little more time to hang out. We were already on our way to the airport when we got the news of the delay, so we took some time for lunch. Joaquin was an angel at the restaurant and quietly sat, played, etc; while the kids at tables around us acted the way kids do (loud, a little naughty, some tantrums). We got quite a few compliments from staff and nearby diners on his behavior. lol He is one. I don't think we really have much to do with how he acts; he is just a pretty chill and content little guy. DD took the majority of the photos of the week, so as soon as she shares them with me, I will pass a few along so you can see him. He was walking unassisted when they arrived (maybe four or five steps when he felt like it); by the time they left he was able to walk a good 15-20 steps on his own, before he would have to stop and get his balance and keep going. I had to laugh at my son in law, who was left at home (he had to work) to his own devices. He was enjoying his "bachelor" like freedom; only having to go to work. Time to watch what he wanted on tv, eat what he wanted, read whenever he wanted, etc. By Wednesday, he told my daughter; "I don't know how you find time to do everything!" I laughed and said, "What does he mean EVERYTHING? You have the baby with you!" Oh well. I have to admit; I had to swallow a VERY big lump in my throat as I pulled away from the "kiss and cry" area at the airport
We got a really good dousing of rain yesterday! Yea! We really needed it! It has been about three weeks with no rain. My yard looks a mess. Splotches of dry yellowing grass (not growing), and areas of green (growing); so if it dries out today, I will be mowing the front and back yards. That will be a good 800+ calorie burn.
Today I am focusing on rebooting my body/gut! A week of vacation has caused havoc on my system. Lets just say; this will be the first day in eight days that I will have more than twenty ounces of water, more veggies than carbs, and be alcohol free. Yes, I have had at least one drink every day. lol It is a good thing I have to keep a full time job. I don't think I would survive retirement with my current mindset.
Welcome to all of the new ladies!
Heather- Hove sounds exactly how I thought it would. A very small, artsy community, that probably during certain times of the year has a fair amount of tourists flooding the streets and beaches. Sounds like my town. I am sure you will love it there, and so close to the grands!
Lisa- Thinking of you as you begin settling in! Glad you have some help, for however long they decide to stay!
Machka- So sorry about your tooth! I was going to ask if perhaps you are doing some grinding or clenching in your sleep. My DH is a clencher and is having quite a few tooth issues currently. I have a small crack in a molar and the dentist is keeping an eye on it. I took Wendy's advice a few months ago and bought some bee propolis and have been using that a couple of times a week (as a rinse). The crack isn't getting any bigger or getting infected, so I will keep up with the propolis as a preventative measure.
Pip- Love the water pic of Yogi! Absolutely adorable!
Well, I am still suffering from vacation brain and am fuzzy about everyone I wanted to respond to! Forgive me if I have forgotten you; but I really haven't. As I read and through out the day you all are always in my mind. Sending love to all! KJ9 -

CJ I do the same thing (look at a menu ahead of time) when I can. It helps with ordering and staying on track. I have gone out to eat 5 times this week and still stayed on track and lost three pounds. I have not had too much problem finding something high fiber, no refined grains. At one restaurant where I love their chicken salad. I just didn't have it as a sandwich.
Ginger great idea to track your blood sugar. It shows proof what foods can do to our blood sugar. Your right when the blood sugar spike high that is when the weight gets added on and does other things to our bodies that are not for the best.
Prayers for your upcoming tests.1 -
Welcome Susan and Teresa
Teresa so sorry for your loss. You sound like you have decided to regain your health. Good for you.
Michele I up room darkening drapes and it does make a difference. One window did need two panels and the other one. Because I did it myself it was much more reasonable.1 -
Home from feeding my FIL he did well ate everything and on his own which was great..I thought I would leave Alfie out of the crate for the hour I was gone.that was a mistake he tore up the sheet on my bed..so crated he will be when I am.not in the house...feeling very tired.so will take a nap then work on paper work and laundry.1

It's a sunny Sunday here in SW WA State
Finished watching Episode 1 of The Skinny on Fat last night. Now I understand much better about how ketones work and why its so beneficial to the liver and brain. When I was young, I was on Atkins for a short while - so hard to do and I recall measuring ketones in the blood with urine sticks.
I like the different methods of using fasting, low carbing, coconut/MCT oil, and the ketone products now on the market.
Heading over to the neighbor's to pick blueberries in a bit.
Beautiful day out there!!

(((CJ))) Hugs, puppy dogs, kittens and rainbows, and ponies. I hope all goes well at the hospital. :flowerforyou:
Kate, UK: I am in full agreement with the notion of, "if it ain't broke, don't fix it."
Heather: I hop you get to have your move ASAP. After all this waiting, another 60 days is not that long. Sending good thoughts your way. :flowerforyou:
CJ: Sending good wishes to your DGD and the whole family. (((HUGS))) puppy dogs, kittens, rainbows and ponies for your DGD.
Regarding weight loss, the pounds that I've lost are due to moving more and counting calories here on MFP. Horseback riding burns LOADS of calories. So does grooming, saddling, etc.
Kate: I agree with the notion that," if it ain't broke, DON'T FIX IT!"
Lisa: I'm so excited for you and Corey. Fixing up and changing things here and there will help make the house truly yours. Yay!!!
Machka: It is wonderful to see the photos of your area. It is a beautiful place. It is also great to see that your DH is moving more and doing more.
DH worked on the RV until he couldn't lift his hands over his head yesterday so we came in the house & rested. Today we have one curtain to hang in the RV, and we will be done with fixing up for a while. YAY!!! I've mentioned that I'm eager to get it out of the parking lot and into the storage unit. I hope that today will be the day.

Machka - Good to see your DH. All that exercise will do his brain so much good.
Had a nap this pm. Now I MUST sort out a box!
Heather UK xxxxxxx0 -
Lanette, I copied the link for episode 3, but it shows the episode as expired. The bonus interview was still available.
https://www.therealskinnyonfat.com/episodes/3-expired.html. It will automatically redirect, but using the back function will give you access to at least the bonus interview.
Margaret, fiber has not specifically been addressed. The over all theme is that sugar and processed foods have led to the increase in obesity, diabetes and heart disease.
Episode 5 covers the different aspects of fasting.

Yeah, two more boxes done! I really am going through "all my yesterdays" . I've just kept the bare minimum. A whole chapter of my life that is passed. Passed and past. My theatre days. Feels like a different country.
